Memory Stains on Banarasi Dupatta revolves around Maya, a reserved history professor who has been carrying the weight of her painful past for a long time. When Swadesh, an art professor, newly joins the university, Maya feels a growing tension between them owing to Swadesh’s unsettling knack for seeing through her. As they start getting close and Maya realizes that she can let go of her past, a shocking revelation shatters her fragile world. You will have to read the book to find out what happens next.

Set against the vibrant backdrop of Banaras, this novel beautifully captures the city’s soul. Reading it reminded me of my trip to Banaras last year, and the descriptions made me feel as though I were right back there.

The emotional depth of Maya’s journey – her battles with her past, her attempts to escape, and her eventual confrontation with truth feels raw and real. The plot can be dramatic at times, but the story kept me hooked, and I finished it in a single day.

If you love books with slow-burning romances and stories that explore the human heart, pick up this book!

Memory Stain On Banarasi Duppatta - Antra Dubey

“It’s not necessary that acceptance will bring you happiness, nor will it lessen your pain. But acceptance is your first step toward healing.and healing is your first choice toward living.”

Maya is a history professor at Varanasi University. She is limited by words, wherein she herself put a wall around herself to protect anyone entering her life because of a past life. Swadesh, an art professor who joins the university. He got amused by Maya atfirst sight. Though he tried to get close, she wasn’t opening up. But fate intertwined through the principal, who had requested both of them to help a student on a project. Will they have a choice to be together?

“Sweet words bring happiness in all directions. It is like a magic spell that wins hearts. So, abandon harsh words.”

Firstly, I was impressed by the cover and the title. It was so beautiful. The narration of the book was lucid and kept me wanting to know what their fate will be in the end. I finished it in less than 3 hrs. More than a happy ending, it was such a relatable one.

It was the author's debut novel. It never felt like a debut. When you find a problem in life that was buried deep inside to layer up good things. One day, that comes into the picture. Instead of running from the problem, accept it and find the solution to it. That’s the story behind it. Also, the way she described my favorite place, Varanasi, it was so much more splendid through the lens of her narration.

If you're looking for a realistic story, then this is your perfect pick to read.

"Memory Stains On Banarasi Dupatta" by Antra Dubey
I would like to congratulate the author for debut book. I just loved it.❤️
This book is a sweet, emotional story about memory, healing, and love. It’s not a heavy drama but it has a heart.💖

Let's go through a book or say Maya's journey📖

🎀 Maya, a history professor 👩‍🏫 in Banaras. She has a painful past that she has hidden away and keeps others at a distance.

🎀Then Swadesh, an art professor🧑‍🏫 comes to the same university where maya is working. He has a way of seeing through Maya’s quiet walls.

🎀 Maya and Swadesh are made to work together on a research project. As they spend more time together, they explore the ghats, temples, local culture, and rituals of Banaras.

🎀Author describes the city so beautifully👌 — the smell of incense and tea, the sound of bells, the narrow lanes, and the lively streets with chats and traditions. Banaras feels like a living, breathing part of the story. After reading all this, I’ve added Banaras to my travel list too! 🧳✨

🎀Now, Maya slowly begins to open up.But just when things seem to be going well, a secret from Maya’s past comes out. That forces her to confront what she has been avoiding.

🎀The book is more than just romance. It deals with pain, loss, trauma, and how someone tries to heal. Maya’s struggle with her past, her walls, and how Swadesh’s kindness helps, is touching.

Memory Stains on Banarasi Dupatta by Antra Dubey is a contemporary romance novel of around 240 pages, written in a simple and easy to read language. This debut work by the author beautifully captures emotions, relationships, and the essence of life in Banaras.

This story may seem like just another romance story, but it’s much more than that. The first half of the book is filled with the beauty of Banaras, its street food, slow-burn romance, and moments that feel warm and perfect. However, the story takes a deeper turn in the second half, leading to an emotional and powerful climax.
The protagonist, Maya, a school teacher, doesn’t have a perfect life. She has faced losses and heartbreaks, and through the pages, we see her transformation. When Swadesh, an art teacher, joins the same school, her life begins to change in unexpected ways.

This book isn’t just about love, it’s about pain, healing, transformation, and acceptance. Every character has depth and none of them are flawless, yet together they make the story feel real and complete. What I truly loved was how the book reminds us that life isn’t perfect, people are flawed, situations are unpredictable but still, we learn to accept, adapt, and move on.
Kudos to author for writing such a beautiful book. I genuinely wish if you can write another book on Maya’s sister story, how badly I want to know more about what happened in her life, how she went through in these many years.
Anyways, readers who are reading this review, go ahead and read this one , you will love it for sure!!

✨Do memories ever fade, or do they linger, quietly shaping us—until we realize that acknowledging them and moving forward is the most powerful choice?

✨That’s the thought that stayed with me after reading Memory Stains on Banarasi Dupatta by Antara Dubey. This book is more than just a story of Maya and Swadesh—it’s a reflection on grief, healing, and how the past never really leaves us, but becomes part of who we are.

✨The writing is gentle yet evocative. Antara weaves Banaras into the narrative so beautifully that it becomes a character of its own. From chaats to mithais, every page tempts you—if you’re on a diet, think twice before opening this book.

✨Each chapter opens with a Hindi song lyric, and since I hardly know any, I turned it into a mini ritual—Googling and hopping onto YouTube to discover each one as I read. Honestly, that little detour was so much fun!

✨The characters are beautifully crafted. Maya’s emotional journey—carrying her scars, yet learning to open up—touched me deeply. Swadesh, on the other hand, is that rare kind of person who doesn’t force healing but allows it to bloom, gently and patiently. Their romance doesn’t sparkle with clichés; it hums with reality instead.

✨Just when I was comfortable in the story, a twist shook everything up, and I was completely taken aback—in the best way! A debut this impressive promises a bright future for the author. I’m already excited for what’s next!

✨Reading this book reminded me that healing isn’t about erasing the stains of memory—it’s about accepting it, carrying it with grace, and finding beauty in the journey forward. It was such a soulful, culture-rich, and heartwarming read. Highly recommended for anyone who loves nostalgia, realistic romance, and stories that touch the soul.

Memory Stains on My Banarasi Dupatta by Antra Dubey turned out to be such an emotional ride for me. The story follows Maya, a history professor who keeps everyone at arm’s length, guarding the weight of her dark past. Then comes Swadesh, the new arts professor, who’s instantly drawn to her calm presence—completely unaware of the scars she hides. His persistence slowly breaks down her walls, and their love quietly blossoms in the lanes of Banaras, with the Ganga silently witnessing their union. But just when life seems perfect for the newlyweds, some knots begin to unravel, leaving Maya with even heavier remorse.

The writing is so beautiful—especially when Antra describes Banaras. I swear I felt like I was right there, walking those streets, breathing that air. This book made me feel everything, joy, hope, heartbreak, devastation—sometimes all at once. The characters are written with such rawness that they’ll stay with me for a long time.

I really don’t want to spoil it more for you, so I’ll stop here, but just know this is one of those reads that stays with you long after the last page. Huge thanks to Antra for trusting me with this copy, I’m so glad I got to experience this wonderful book!

I didn't just read this book...I lived it! 💙
I laughed softly, I sighed, and yes… I cried, more than once.

At its centre is Maya, a history professor who lives a life of quiet control...self-contained, detached, and afraid to let her scars show. Then comes Swadesh, a newly joined art professor, empathetic and intuitive, who begins to see the cracks beneath Maya’s composed surface. When they’re paired together for a research project, what begins as academic collaboration slowly turns into an emotional excavation.

Maya’s story gripped me from the very first page. Her walls, her fears, her quiet, aching loneliness. And then Swadesh arrived, not as a fairy-tale hero, but as someone patient, tender, and impossibly real. Watching them navigate their pasts, their hesitations, their small, fragile moments of trust… it broke me and healed me at the same time.

Banaras isn’t just a backdrop, it’s alive. The ghats, the temple bells, the marigolds, kulhad chai, agarbattis and the Ganga, every scene seeped into my soul. And that dupatta… beautiful, rich, stained with memories, just like life itself. 🌸

I cried because this book doesn’t sugarcoat pain. It shows how scars linger, how love can be tentative and terrifying, and how healing is messy but worth every tremble. I laughed because of the little moments of human tenderness that felt so authentic. And I closed the book feeling raw, touched, and strangely hopeful.

This isn’t just a love story. It’s a story about love, loss, grief, betrayal, guilt, trust and moreover about memory, courage, and the quiet, stubborn hope that maybe we can let someone in...despite the stains we carry. And lastly, about hope to find joy after years of living in grief. I can’t recommend it enough.

I thought like the tittle the book will be about some forgotten memories but no the book shocked me equally read it in like 1.5 hours comfortable to read with short and engaging chapters. This is the type of book where we say just one more chapter.

Maya the Fmc,lecturer in Kashi University well reserved always keeping to herself nobody knows about her,she just minds her own business no smiling, there is no interaction with colleagues just doing her job. Then arrives our MMC Swadesh who’s outspoken and always try to keep surrounding light got curious about Maya then somehow like destiny they were assigned together by principal to help out a student.Well slowly he broke his way through Maya’s wall and personality with his own personality by just being himself with her.

Soon he confessed his feelings but Maya took some time and accepted him.Everything was going well until there past decided to knock on there happy house door bringing everything down. There was lot of stuff going on like what happens if one decide to keep our past as past and move on but does the past leave us ,No.

This is clearly a lesson to people to talk ,to listen don’t just let it go ,let it out.

I want to say so many stuff but I can’t because it will give away the plot. But I will say one thing How one person’s stubborn decision or one person’s decision without thinking the outcome can destroy everything around them Now who’s that person you need read it to know.

One line is stuck with me “Survival is not Healing”.❤️‍🩹

The way cancer patient struggle was shown was too real made me go back to 2022 ,Yes have cancer patient really closely.Cancer took my dad away.

This novel delves into bitter complications of love, relationships and vulnerability and how our past and decisions help form our existence. The book is interesting and sprinkled with some Indian culture and the bit of thriller and keeps you glued till the end!

The storytelling of Antra Dubey is enchanting and riveting. Strong story, good plot builder, makes the family and relational stresses and fears, heaing and love possible .Her uncomplicated and engaging style makes the tale accessible. She deftly juxtaposes raw emotions with mundane life, the city of Banaras coming to life under her touch. The manner she weaves in the sights, sounds and feel of the city into the story, you feel it like a living being almost like Banaras is a character on its own!

It’s a nice touch to begin each chapter with an old song. It does set the mood and gives you a strong connection to the story. I could have listened playing the songs as I was reading, it would have made the experience even more unique and real!

The characters in this book are real ones, flawed and lovable and bumbling. The author does a wonderful job painting her theme, love, with all of them and representing it in this pure, genuine manner that is so hard to come by. There’s no melodrama or love story, just real, relatable feelings!

I read this in one sitting, but its emotions will stay with me far longer. It’s one of those books that everyone should read who loves slow-burn, character-driven love stories with a lot of depth! I highly recommend this book!

Reading Memory Stains on Banarasi Dupatta by Antra Dubey felt like being pulled into the soulful alleys of Banaras where the ghats breathe history, and every fragrance of marigold or smoke of agarbatti carries a memory.

Maya, the protagonist, touched me deeply. As a reserved history professor, her silence spoke louder than words. I could feel her loneliness, her desperate need to keep the past locked away, and at the same time, her fragile yearning to be seen. When Swadesh enters her life, it isn’t just another character introduction, it’s almost like Banaras itself sent him to unravel her guarded heart.

I loved how the author layered their story against the spiritual, timeless backdrop of the city. The tension between Maya and Swadesh was so beautifully written subtle yet powerful, like ripples on the Ganga. And then came that twist, the revelation of Maya’s buried secret, which left me shaken and yet, strangely hopeful.

For me, the most moving part was how the novel explored memory not as something to erase, but as something that stains us, shapes us, and perhaps even saves us. The Banarasi dupatta becomes more than fabric; it becomes a metaphor for memory itself, embroidered with pain, beauty, and resilience.

This isn’t just a love story it’s about healing, acceptance, and finding courage in the very city that mirrors the duality of life and death. By the last page, I felt like Banaras had left its own imprint on me too.

If you’re looking for a book that blends history, romance, and the haunting beauty of memories, this one deserves a place on your shelf.

The narrative immerses readers in rich domestic and social settings, portraying the small joys, regrets, and surprises that shape everyday life. You know, there are books that touch your heart and stay with you forever? Years after years and you're never going to forget the story and the essence of that book. Well, this is one such book that will make an impact on you.
Memory Stains on Banarasi Dupatta is a love story, between Maya - a history teacher, and Swadesh - the arts teacher.
The plot is set in Banaras, and the way this book represents the place will make you fall in love. I am eager to visit this place, especially the ghats mentioned. The small, but significant things like the banarasi paan, ghats, architecture, everything is talked about so beautifully in this book.
Maya, in the beginning of the book seems like a mystery. The second chapter is an insight into her life, that will come as a shock. And Swadesh takes up the role of unearthing that mystery behind her. I love how patient he is while talking to her. He respects her boundaries like a gentleman. The side characters play a significant role in shaping the relationship of these two love birds.
Honestly, both of them went through a rough past. This book portrays a love which is ugly but also beautiful.
There were moments where I cried, and scenes where I fell in love with the plot all over again.
For a debut book, I'm beyond impressed! Be ready to cry and giggle while reading this book, because I'll keep on recommending this to you guys!

I just finished reading Memories Stain on Banarasi Dupatta, and I’m still overwhelmed by the rollercoaster of emotions it took me through. To be honest, the book gave me goosebumps right from the very first chapters.
Set against the soulful backdrop of Banaras, this story follows Maya, a history professor weighed down by her painful past, and Swadesh, an art professor who slowly enters not just her university, but her life. What begins as a gentle connection blossoms into a journey of healing, where love and hope start replacing silence and sorrow.
The author has beautifully woven together themes of love, sacrifice, acceptance, forgiveness, guilt, and regret. The narrative is full of twists and turn, moments that will leave you staring at the wall, trying to process what just happened. At times it feels cute and heartwarming, while at others, achingly sad and profound.
What truly makes this story shine is its ability to touch the heart, it’s not just a romance, it’s about finding light even in the darkest corners of life. I feel grateful that this book found its way to me, and I’m eagerly looking forward to exploring more works by the author.
If you’re searching for an emotional, heartfelt read that stays with you long after the last page, this is the book you shouldn’t miss.

This is a story that dives deep into the complexities of love, relationships, vulnerability, past and the result of choices we make throughout the course of life.

The book will give you everything with a hint of desi aesthetics that will make the readers hooked to the story.

Writing is vividly filled with richly detailed scenes and beautifully written prose which will stay and linger long after you finish reading.

The narrative will evoke different emotions and will make you invested in characters so much.

The characters felt real-flawed, loveable lost and through them the author beautifully explores the theme of love. I found Maya's characters very mysterious and compelling to read and it is well crafted for sure.

overall a marvelous read 💞

Set against the soulful backdrop of Varanasi, this is a quiet yet powerful love story between Maya, a guarded history professor with a painful past, and Swadesh, an ever-optimistic art professor.
Their journey isn’t about passion or drama, but about healing, patience, and real connection. No spicy scenes, no over-the-top romance-just pure, heartfelt love that feels rare in today’s world.
Maya’s strength, especially in caring for her mother-in-law, is beautifully portrayed.
And the author’s debut? Absolutely stunning. Varanasi comes alive through her words.
I finished it in one sitting, but its emotions will stay much longer. 💫
A must-read if you believe in slow, soulful love. ❤️

Memory Stains on Banarasi Dupatta is one of those books that feels like watching a heartfelt movie unfold on paper.

What I loved most was how the author brought Banaras alive—the ghats, kullad wali chai, and kachoris made me feel like I was right there. The romance is sweet, pure, and without unnecessary exaggeration. The book also leaves behind subtle life lessons wrapped in emotions.

If you enjoy stories with love, destiny, and meaningful twists, this book is definitely worth reading.

Memory Stains on Banarasi Dupatta is a tender, raw, and deeply human story about trauma, healing, and the love that dares to revive us when we’ve given up on ourselves. Have you ever read a book that felt like a secret whispered just to you?
A story that doesn’t rush to impress but instead, seeps into your soul, leaving a beautiful, unforgettable mark??

Memory Stains on Banarasi Dupatta is more than just a book—it's an experience. It's a tale of lingering secrets, a city that holds them close, and a love that goes far beyond the ordinary.
Get ready to lose yourself in Varanasi. In this book, the city isn't just a backdrop—it's a character in itself.

Meet Maya, a history professor with a past so painful she's built an impenetrable wall around herself. She’s a mystery, a whisper in the halls of Varanasi University, until he arrives. Swadesh, an art professor with a lighthearted spirit, sees through her carefully constructed defences.
But what happens when their worlds collide??
And what untold story lies hidden behind Maya’s silent gaze?

Their paths cross when they are tasked with helping a student on a project, and what follows is a delicate, slow-burn romance that feels authentic and heartfelt.
Just as their love starts to feel real, their buried pasts threaten to crash the party, bringing with them a shocking revelation.
Will their love survive the secrets that have stained their lives??

This isn't just a love story; it's an emotional journey of healing and hope. The author doesn't just describe Varanasi; she brings it to life as a character in its own right. You'll feel like you're right there, strolling along the serene ghats, getting lost in the narrow, bustling lanes, and breathing in the scents of street food and marigold garlands.

The author crafts characters who are so real—deeply flawed, relatable, and bursting with raw emotion.
Plus, each chapter starts with a line from an old Hindi song, adding a layer of nostalgia and mood that pulls you right into the story. It’s a beautifully polished and unforgettable read.

The romance between Maya and Swadesh is built on the small, quiet moments that matter most: shared silences, genuine vulnerability, and the courage to be yourself. It's a love story that feels earned and deeply true.

With short, engaging chapters and twists you won't see coming, you'll be hooked from the very first page.

If you're looking for a book that will make you feel everything—from heartache to hope—this is your next read.
It challenges you to confront your own past, find your voice, and discover that even in the darkest corners of life, there's always a path to hope and redemption.
Be warned: You won't be able to put it down. This is the kind of story that leaves a lasting impression, a memory stain of its own.

Some books leave us with lessons, some with hope, and some with signs that guide us quietly. Memory Stains on Banarasi Dupatta by Antra Dubey is one such book for me. It’s a reminder to hold on to hope even in the darkest corners, not to let trauma define us, and not to pass down the pain we have endured. More than just a story, this book feels like an experience, an emotion that lingers beyond words. From the very beginning, the title and cover stole my heart. The moment I picked it up, I knew this wasn’t just another read but a journey filled with reflections, surprises, and lessons. It’s unputdownable. I finished it in just a few hours, and yet it carried so much within it: countless moments, unforgettable lessons, and a quiet nudge to flow with life instead of resisting it. Set against the vibrant and soulful backdrop of Kashi (Banaras), Antra Dubey immerses us in the ghats of the Ganga, the narrow lanes filled with life, and even the taste of spicy tamatar chaat. Through this vivid landscape, we meet Maya and Swadesh - two people who could not be more different, yet are destined to cross paths in unexpected ways.

Maya, a history professor, is guarded and reserved. Her world revolves around facts and timelines. She carries walls around her that are not easy to break. Swadesh, an art professor, is her contrast: lighthearted, full of warmth, and always looking at life through the lens of beauty and feeling. From the very first moment, he senses that Maya’s sharp demeanour hides an untold story, and he longs to uncover it.  Their connection begins when they work together with a student on a project. Slowly, the boundaries between them blur, and they start to see each other outside the roles of “professors.” What follows is a journey of love, loss, healing, and the choices life demands of us. Life, as the book reminds us, is never only happiness or only sorrow. It’s always a blend, and what matters most is the way we choose to live through its shades.

🍁Author:- Antra Dubey

🍁Printed Price:- Rs. 399/-

"Maya realised that it was not bricks and beams they were dreaming of but mornings and evenings together under one roof, and she believed that it would be beautiful."

Sometimes, we tend to erase the bad incidents of our lives as nightmares but often they are engraved as the intense memory which shapes us into a new mould, teaches us and influences us so badly that we can't share it with anyone. It is rightly said, "The worst part of holding the memories is not the pain. It's the loneliness of it. Memories need to be shared."

Maya, the history professor of Varanasi Central University, stood out because of his reserved and quiet nature in her workplace. As she was confined only between classes and her subject, no one knew a bit extra about herself until Swadesh arrived. Being completely different from Maya as per basic characteristics, Swadesh, the art professor tried to broke the wall around her and the coldness with warmth. Maya avoided him as much as possible but they were bound to work together for a student's research project. Their chemistry was brewed in a balanced way with nuanced feelings for each other and in a simple yet relatable manner. They decided to make a house of their own based on trust, love and mutual support but the destiny was its own mood to judge the strength of their relationship.

A domestic life with resilience or a house of cards - what is ahead of their companionship? Apart from the physical characters of the novel, the presence of Banaras has been a treat to the soul. The peaceful ghats, vibrant culture, mouth watering foods, the smell of agarbatti and last of all, the hidden stories of the unpopular alleys - Banaras is not only a backdrop of the novel, but also a beloved and bright figure like the marigold garlands.

The plot twist of the novel is noteworthy and I have never expected it to arrive. Besides this, marriage is all about handling the worst problems together. This is the lesson I have learnt from the book.

"Muddled is okay. As long as there is room for love."

Memory Stains on a Banarasi Dupatta is a quiet, deeply moving story about loss, healing, and the gentle insistence of life moving forward even when the heart resists.

The story follows Maya, a history professor who has learned to live behind emotional walls. An introverted and intensely private person. She has been shaped and scarred by loss. Having lost people she loved, Maya now exists as a shadow of her former self, going through the motions of life while carrying grief like a second skin. She is distant and withdrawn. Enters Swadesh, a presence that feels like a slow, patient warmth. He doesn’t force healing upon Maya, he offers companionship, understanding, and quiet support.

Their bond grows organically, but life, as always, has its own plans. Life throws its curveballs, choices become inevitable, and the story follows them through crossroads shaped by circumstance, duty, and emotional truth. This is a novel that understands that love does not always triumph and that sometimes, survival itself is an act of courage.

What makes this book truly special is how subtly it conveys its themes. Without being preachy, it reminds us that life goes on, that every character has choices, and that the paths we choose ultimately shape who we become. There’s no villain here, just humans navigating emotions, responsibilities, and societal expectations.

The setting of Banaras is written with breathtaking authenticity. The city isn’t just a backdrop; it’s a living, breathing character. The rawness of Banaras is captured so beautifully. The author portrays society as it is: judgmental and harsh yet familiar. The middle-class struggles, everyday compromises, unspoken rules, and quiet resilience are depicted with honesty and sensitivity.

Reading this book felt like walking through Banaras ki galiyan, the smell of chai and incense in the air, temple bells ringing faintly in the distance, and Kishore Kumar playing softly from an old radio in a nearby shop.Gentle, melancholic, and deeply rooted in realism, Memory Stains on a Banarasi Dupatta is a story that lingers long after the last page.

🌺Book Review - Memory Stains on Banarasi Dupatta🌺
Genre - Romance Fiction

About Author - Antra Dubey
I am amazed by the way she wrote this book, she is so down to earth which is reflected in the storyline. The way she captured the essence of our culture is much appreciable. This book have simple language, relatable and the font size used is just correct which my mom finds it so easy to read too and don't get me started on the ohh so beautiful book cover.
This work doesn't seem like of debut author but an experienced one, much congratulations and love Antra, I wish this book becomes bestseller soon💕

✍️Storyline - This beautiful yet painful story started along the ghats of Banaras between a reserved, closed knitted girl- Maya, a history professor and always smiling, friendly- Swadesh, an art professor who have positive outlook at everything.
She have a dark past which she want to forget but deep down she is still carrying it in her heart like an ache she won't let go. She keep to herself, do not let anyone close to her but one fine day those walls around her got melted away when he came around. But will this love story have a happy ending or his and her dark past will collide one day to shatter the beautiful life they built together?
Maya's dedication to his mother-in-law in her painful time is really appreciable, the way she handled the situation and her home reminds us of our mothers' compassion and compromises they do for the one they love.
This book is romance novel but can you believe it do not have any spicy scenes between him and her, this one really did not need it, this book is not any romance novel which revolves around fling or bling, this one is the real, true love which today's world really lack.

📚My Rec - I highly recommend this book to everyone like even if this is not your genre, please do read this one and yes the beautiful excerpts of 80's songs will keep you hooked🤩

My Rating - 4.9/5

Some stories don’t rush to impress you with twists or high drama; instead, they seep into your heart quietly, like the smoke of agarbatti curling through an old temple corridor.

Memory Stains on Banarasi Dupatta by Antra Dubey is one such story.

At its centre is Maya, a reserved history professor who has spent years building walls around her painful past. She is not the kind of character who reveals herself easily—and that’s what makes her so compelling.

Opposite her is Swadesh, an art professor whose optimism and warmth slowly chip away at Maya’s defences. Their journey is not one of grand declarations but of small moments—shared silences by the Ganga, conversations layered with hesitation, and the inevitable weight of unspoken truths.

And there is a lot more that's left to be uncovered along the way. The grief, the truth, the silent arrival of love, the search for redemption, and coming close to the lived reality of the messy relationships.

With this book, Antra attempts to let Banaras itself become a living, breathing character.

From the ghats drenched in morning light to the narrow lanes bursting with colour, from spicy tamatar chaat to marigold garlands hanging at every corner, the city is woven into every emotion of the story. It mirrors Maya’s duality—her grief and her resilience, her silence and her yearning to be heard.

The prose is simple yet deeply evocative. As the narrative unfolds and flows, the readers feel the ripples of tension, the ache of memory, and the slow unfolding of love. I loved how each chapter begins with an old song—it’s a unique thing that adds a beautiful touch to the reading experience.

The story itself might seem a bit dramatic, given how things develop one after another, but the simplicity behind it all gives it meaning.

It is a book of healing. It shows us that memories don’t vanish—they leave stains, sometimes painful, sometimes beautiful, but always shaping who we are.
