One Night Stands are Killer…Real estate executive Deirdre Shercroft knew her one night stand with Boston commercial real estate magnate Michael Pennington would come back to haunt her. She never thought it would kill her. When they both stumble on a hidden drug making operation, it looks like it will cost them everything, including their lives, and the life of Michael’s son. Can love, cunning, and a boy’s skill at Morse Code win out against impossible odds?
It’s wonderful for a writer to live near Washington, DC as I do. The research resources are fabulous, the scenery is great – complete with monuments, gorgeous public buildings, and the most amazing, weird, convoluted, political people – and I get to be here with the most awesome family, friends and neighbors in the world. I live here with my wonderful husband (he’s my personal hero), my two delightful, growing-too-fast sons, and my three silly rescue dogs.
As former marketing executive, I worked for research parks, governmental concerns and not-for-profits, (which is also great fodder for the writer’s mind!) but now I’m happily employed as a consultant and full-time writer. I’m a member of Romance Writers of America, Science Fiction Writers of America, Mystery Writers of America, and Thriller Writers. I’m also a proud member of the Washington Romance Writers, an RWA chapter, as well as several online RWA chapters. I'm a former board member of the Romance Writers of America.
One of the most enjoyable things I get to do as a consultant and writer, is to teach. I enjoy connecting with my clients, readers and other writers. Having also worked in the funeral and cemetery business for nearly thirteen years, I teach a class on Body Disposal.
Being part of the Ad(d)ams Family, as you can imagine, Halloween is my favorite holiday. I love to work in the garden, run my dogs, hang out with my family, and write. Other than that, as another, more famous author says, the rest is subject to change without notice.
I loved every thing about this book! I was legitimately on the edge of my seat after the first chapter. At first I was in agony that Deirdre may have a run in with Michael her one night stand while making deliveries. That dread quickly turned to fear as I wondered how this ex body guard and her ex lover were going to escape with their lives. I desperately wanted an epilogue to see Michael, Henry and Deirdre get their dinner date!
This book pulls you right in and holds your attention right up to the very last word. It is an incredibly quick read, and while it does leave you wanting more, the whole story is squeezed into those 90ish pages so damn well. If you like a little suspense with a dash of romance and want a quick little read sure to satisfy.... this is your book.
There was a lot of suspense built into this short story. So many pieces have to come together to save the day. I like what a strong woman Diedre is. #CMCon24
It was well done for a novella. This one has suspense and remanence. Deirdre ends up at the wrong place at the wrong time. She was helping her family with deliveries before Thanksgiving and ends up in a meth lab. When she is taken hostage, she finds out that her one night stand and his son are hostages too. I like that Deirdre is able to stay calm in a challenging situation.
"Deadly Delivery" by Jeanne Adams was an enjoyable novella. Deirdre and Michael had a one night stand at a convention, and Deirdre thought they hit it off pretty good. After not hearing from Michael, she had irritated feelings towards him. She didn't know that Michael had some things that he didn't tell her. Jeanne did a great job with this short story, and the way she writes Deirdre was wonderful. In the end, it is a quick read, and I recommend giving it a try.
Meet Deirdre Shercroft, real estate executive and the occasional holiday delivery girl for her family’s gift basket business. Having recently had a one night stand with Michael Pennington, commercial real estate magnet, Deirdre is left confused as to why he didn’t call although he promised to. Despite it all, thoughts of that one night still fanned flames inside her.
Now a few months later, while delivering Thanksgiving baskets to the wrong apartment, she is forced at gunpoint into a hidden drug operation. Taken aback, she is thrust into a hostage situation that has brought her face-to-face with Michael Pennington and his young son.
In such a deadly situation where the meth dealers threaten to blow up the building, the two lovers realize that communications were sent but were never received. Furthermore, they share they both felt the same way about each other. Fortunate to see each other again, they must use their wits and cunningness to escape and get a second chance together.
This is the first romantic suspense novella I have read by Jeanne Adams and I must say -- it certainly packed a lot of punch in under 100 pages. It had all the elements of unrequited love, suspense, and drama from start to finish. The characters were well developed and the balance between the romance and suspense kept me on the edge of my seat
A must read. Two thumbs up.
Some of my favorite lines:
Bottom line, though, her feelings, her heart mattered. If they were going to die here, she had to know. “I waited for a call. A text. An email.” When he just stared at her, she sighed. “I understand about Henry’s accident, but it’s been almost three months and not a word from you. We may die here, but it’s not like the movies. You can’t just pick up where we left off. I’ve been used before and left alone. I’ve been lied to. I won’t let that kind of hurt happen again.” Michael was shaking his head. “I called your office as soon as we got back to the states, three weeks ago,” he protested. “Left messages.” He took a deep breath. “I know guys say that, but I did. I…I wanted to talk to you, Deirdre. What I felt that night…” His voice trailed off. Her heart clenched at his words. He’d felt it too.
The author drew me in with this book. Not only was it a matter of a hook-up gone wrong (getting mixed up), but there was also a kidnapping. Reading this book and watching the chemistry being rekindled as you are trying to save yourself was a good read for me. Although I could predict some of what happened, I enjoyed the craziness the characters had to endure. The ending was perfect to me - the icing on the cake.
Dierdra is helping the family out by making some holiday deliveries for them. The building she ends up at is owned by Michael Pennington. Michael just happens to be the man that she had a hot one-night stand with. There had been a promise of a date once they were both back in Boston. Dierdra and Michael are thrown together when Dierdra makes a delivery to the wrong apartment. Good read!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novella. It had romance, suspense, danger and kept me on the edge of my seat until I finished it. I'm one of those readers who always wants more when a book I love ends and I really wanted Deirdre and Michael's story to continue. The book has a great HFN ending but I'd love to know how their story continued.
Deidre is doing deliveries at Micheal Pennington's building. The man she had a one-night stand with. Making her last delivery, she stumbles on a drug operation and Michael and his son being held and hurt. I appreciated how all 3 of them came up with a plan to get out of the building before it's blown up. It was a close call however it had satisfying ending.
In Deadly Delivery by Jeanne Adams we are treated to a griping tale of what happens when a food delivery for Thanksgiving goes really, really, wrong.
Dierdre Shercroft is helping out her family for the holidays because they’re short staffed, her regular job is in real-estate which helps her maneuver in and out of the buildings in the city. Michael Pennington, a real estate tycoon delivered his own delicious surprise when they enjoyed a week of bliss. Too bad Michael fed her a few lines that he'd "be in touch." When they don't connect all assumptions point to that being a horrible disaster. Dierdre assumes that was that, but is it?
As a member of the Shercroft family she helps out her parents for their family business by delivering decadent and anticipated holiday baskets. However, this is one delivery run that she’ll be remembering for a very long time.
What happens when Dierdre and Michael run into each other again? If you were face to face with a hot guy from your past that you thought wanted nothing to do with you, what would you do?
This novella screams sexy adventure and will have you wondering until the very last page….WELL??? Yes, dear readers this is a must read and must own.
Jeanne Adams is a master at novellas. Ya know those stories that deliver fabulous stories in 100 pages or less.
I received this copy from the author for an honest review and am thrilled she sent it my way. I look forward to many more reads by Jeanne Adams!
A lot of action packed into this short read. I was not sure what to expect but admit In was pulled into the storyline rather quickly. I did figure out things so bad some gel I saw that con my moments. But overall I loved the main characters and fell in love with sweet little Henry.
