New Britannia, 1839: Chemist Miriam Brehane makes aether formulas for a variety of professional uses. She thought that one secret formula, supposedly capable of fueling machines without coal or oil, was a legend, lost in her family's vaults in far away Ethiopia. But one day, a mysterious cedar box arrives at her doorstep with half of the formula inside.
COIC investigator Armand Torres is reluctant to help the intriguing Miriam find the missing piece of the aether formula. He believes the legendary formula is simply that --hokum and nonsense. Yet when he learns more about the aether's properties and Miriam's family legacy, he feels drawn to help her. The two set off on an adventure spanning London and Scarborough to find the formula. But someone else may be after it, too...
Mystery and romance abound in this curious tale of family connections and secret formulas.
Author's Note: This novel marks the beginning of Armand and Miriam's journey, and introduces new characters into the Curiosity Chronicles world. The story does not contain a complete HEA. Armand and Miriam will have their HEA in The Scarborough Affair, to be released soon in 2015.

Miriam is the smartest but...
I really really liked Miriam, she was super smart and fun and I am terribly interested in what she is going to accomplish but i do admit i feel dissatisfied with the ending. It felt like only part of a book and i am glad i don't have to wait and can drive right into the next one!

New characters, expanding themes!
I love that Ava Morgan brings in new characters each book, and her current protagonists are both interesting and represent the genre well. The aether angle is something I think we will see more of, and i think it will continue to play well. Great character and environment details. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
