Is there a more original writer currently working in the English language? Rice belongs in the same conversation as Volodine, Cărtărescu, and Lenz.

Few works are as deeply engaging and deeply strange and thought through as this. Hopefully Rice’s work will get the recognition it deserves sooner rather than later

The SC explores the yearning for meaning and the dangerous myths that can be spawned from our need for answers. Navigating experience. It’s not only a book about existence, but art too. It is a culmination of a writer’s investigation and one’s acceptance of its conclusions. Follow the brothers as they leave a trail of fun and grotesque chaos across the surreal lands of Europe, Kansas, Hollywood, and other constructed realms. How can you stand still on something that is constantly moving?

“There is only the ritual itself, as well established as those of an ancient civilization which has, against all odds, persevered unchanged into the present.”

DLR-heads rejoice! This book really ties the room together - poking its sticky fingers into all his previous work while also standing very much on its own 2 (or possibly 4) feet. It’s a crowning achievement. It’s a new beginning. And it’s the surest proof yet that they’re one in the same.
