Seek the Galaxy Book 3 in the Multi-Award-Winning Return to the Galaxy Series
They found the tech to reach the stars. But the galaxy they enter is burning.
On Earth, the team suffers betrayal, torture, and death at the hands of brutal enemies.
Ewan and his companions discover a hidden Saret asteroid base brimming with futuristic technology. When they uncover a fully operational interstellar warship, humanity’s dream of returning to the stars finally seems within reach.
Armed with advanced ships and weapons, they set out to find lost human colonies, hoping for allies. Instead, they find bloody chaos.
On Kifrun, a malevolent God-King rules through dark sacrifices and ancient terror, plotting to invade a peaceful republic. To stop him, Ewan’s team must fight on two worlds, and their best chance may lie with a desperate girl thief with fire in her heart and nothing left to lose.
Admiral Velal leads her Space Marines in desperate clashes against hostile alien powers, fighting to protect a fleet of vulnerable refugees and keep her people alive.
And in the outer reaches, Beryn, medieval prince turned starfighter ace, must choose which civilizations live or die, as the Ranid wipe out human worlds in waves of nuclear annihilation.
If Earth is to survive, allies must be found, old wounds must heal, and humanity must face its darkest hour.
Not all of them will make it. But if they fail, Earth burns next.
Perfect for fans of John Scalzi, Orson Scott Card, and Jack Campbell, Seek the Galaxy delivers cinematic action, epic battles, and brutal moral choices in a galaxy where survival is never guaranteed.
BA Gillies didn’t start life in a huge cupboard under the stairs like Harry Potter.
He had it tougher, he began life in a kitchen drawer. Literally.
With the only cot his family could afford claimed by his older sister, newborn Brian spent his first few weeks tucked inside a repurposed cutlery drawer. Occasionally, someone remembered to open it and feed him, though he prefers not to talk about the mess.
Growing up with four siblings taught him to fight for space. Perhaps that’s why he now writes about bigger battlefields. His stories are fast-paced, strategy-driven Military Sci-Fi and Space Opera, where elite soldiers, cunning commanders, and alien warlords clash across the galaxy.
Since escaping the cutlery drawer, BA Gillies has lived in four countries and travelled to over 80. A highlight was hitchhiking solo for months across America in his kilt aged 22. This earned him strange looks, good friends and great stories.
A lifelong student of history, he’s fascinated by how empires rise and fall. Whether it’s ancient Rome, Napoleon, or a star-spanning federation, one thing holds true. Good strategy wins.
Fans of David Weber’s tactical genius, Rick Partlow’s explosive action, or John Scalzi’s sharp wit will feel right at home in his universe.
He looks forward to seeing you there.
His books and stories have won multiple sci-fi awards.

Seek the Galaxy is the third book in Gillies’ Return to the Galaxy series. I give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5! I’ve read them all (twice so far), and they are all so good! It has been many years since I’ve read a series in which the excitement of the story AND the superior quality of the writing is not just maintained but improves with each new title.
In Seek the Galaxy, we are again kept informed of Velal’s trials and tribulations. She searches ahead of the Ranid’s course into the Orion arm, hoping to protect or perhaps transplant Saret colonists. Ewan and Jera struggle for control of the effort to prepare earth to defend against the expected Ranid attack.
Gillies didn’t start writing fiction until just over two years ago. Yet his handling of this complex story is incredible; he manages the story from multiple perspectives and locations. What I find so unusual is that he doesn’t just take ideas from past great writers and mix them in a different order. Instead he has new ideas, new concepts, new ways of handling various pieces of the story. Are there some ideas I have seen before? Yes, it IS a space opera, after all— but he gives them his own spin.

I believe the digital version of these titles has been developed by an expert IT professional. They are well organized; I’ve had no problems identifying the source, location, and time of each section of the story. Each section is linked in the Contents, not just by chapter, making Gillies’ books exceptionally easy to navigate. All appear to be professionally edited as well. Frankly, I’ve seldom found this level of professionalism by independents in digital publishing at all, let alone by relatively new authors.
Gillies is a wonderful writer. His initial works certainly compare favorably with the greats of science fiction—including Heinlein, Asimov, and McCaffrey. (And Gillies is still publishing!) If you love science fiction, you’ll love Seek the Galaxy. Book 4, Explore the Galaxy, is scheduled to be released October 6, 2025.
Some good story lines, however it's not OK for the Renid to slaughter innocents yet the MC does the same thing. They are the "star gods" that the corrupt and evil religion was based on. No attempt was made to capitalize on this fact to possibly show anyone how misguided they have become. Their technology is so superior, seems they could have played the real god card. The civilization was presented as having evolved to treat women poorly in a transparent attempt to score easy political correctness points. Boring.
Love all 3 books. Cannot wait for number 4 Really easy to immerse into the storey, people, places. Great I wAnt to say world building but more believability on the earth side and as a sci fi reader the story telling is excellent
Unsure who the person is on the cover, but enjoyed this space faring story about reaching into far space to discover new worlds, save lost wild colonies, & fight evil.
I have just binge read the 3 books in the series,I have sore eyes but it was worth it ,loved the characters and the action, really need book 4 cos I'm sort of dragged into this world .
This author started out good on his first book, his second was mostly sex and stupid decisions because, and this one got better, BUT, still too much sex, not enough star ships blowing up
The book raises questions of what type of book the author really wants to write. On the one hand there is well developed sci-fi but the decent into the multiple sex couplings of the main characters makes me wonder just what kind of book he really wants to write.
This book continues to grab me as with the other books. I continue to read it straight through until I finished very good reading. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Seek has everything I love about sci-fi: immersive worlds, interesting characters, and fast paced action. The writing just gets better and better! Really enjoyed this instalment and excited for future books
