Bax Knight’s star is on the rise. His rock band is finally on the radar of the music label of their dreams, and the pressure to outdo themselves with each song and performance is strong. The drummer needs a distraction and finds it in a flirtation with two hockey players that quickly leads to more.
Soren Lindstrom is on a mission. His dream is to play for hockey’s top league, and he works hard hoping to achieve it. The quirky goalie can’t deny the pull toward the easygoing drummer and the shy hockey forward he’s crushed on for years. Starting something with them fulfills him in ways he never expected, but threatens to scatter his focus from his game.
Tyler Moore is on his last chance. A hockey career riddled with injuries kept him on the bench more often than being on the ice and from connecting with teammates and fulfilling his dreams. Being traded to the Saint Paul Slash reunites him with Soren, introduces him to Bax, and gives him a taste of finally belonging.
As outside pressures mount and unexpected slap shots careen their way, the trio discover that falling in love changes everything, including what matters most, what they want, and what they’ll do when their hearts are in play.

Game Winner by Susan Scott Shelley is part of the multi-author The Games We Play — Season 2 series, and while each book is a standalone, this one features a throuple dynamic between Soren, Tyler, and Bax that fits together beautifully.
Soren and Tyler are hockey players who’ve known each other for years. Soren has nursed a quiet crush on Tyler, but he’s never acted on it. At the same time, he’s also drawn to Bax, the drummer of a rising rock band... a connection that surprises him with its intensity. One night at a bar brings all three of them together, and the chemistry between them is undeniable. Then the hockey gods intervene: Tyler is traded to Soren’s team, putting all three men in the same city and opening the door for something real to happen between them.
This is a low-angst, soft, and genuinely sweet romance. All three characters are navigating their own challenges; Bax with band drama, Soren finding his confidence on the ice, and Tyler worrying about his health and career, but what shines is how fully committed they are to supporting one another. The dynamic feels natural, balanced, and full of care.
The writing is easy to sink into, and the story has a cozy feel with just enough heat to spark their connection. I especially enjoyed seeing not just their relationship grow, but also the interactions with teammates and bandmates, which added warmth and community to the story.
If you love MMM romance, supportive partners, and low-drama relationship building, this is a fun, light read and a great addition to the series. Looking forward to more from Susan Scott Shelley!
This book is part of the multi-author The Games We Play Season 2 series. Each book is a standalone read that features a different couple, but in this case it is a throuple. This is the story of Soren, Tyler and Bax. Soren and Tyler are hockey players and Soren has a crush on Tyler though he hasn't done anything about it. Bax is a drummer in an up and coming band and Soren is taken with him as well. He is surprised that he feels that strongly about two different men at the same time but the night they all spent together at a bar talking cements that feeling. Then the hockey fates change and Tyler is traded to Soren's team. Now all three are together in the same city. There is the possibility and hope that all three of them could make a relationship happen. This is a low angst story. None of them expected to be in a three way relationship and each has some baggage of their own to work through. This is their story. The book is very well written and easy to read. I received an advanced review copy of this book from GRR and I am voluntarily leaving a review. The three of them seemed to be made for one another. Bax and his band have challenges. Soren has team challenges and Tyler has health challenges. I loved how all three were fully committed and fully supported each other. Of course, it was fun to see their team mates and band mates as well. A low drama and sweet story. It is fun to read.
Two hockey players and a rockstar. Who would have thought that the three of them would fit together so well? Soren and Tyler have known one another for years now, and while Soren has definitely had a long crush on Tyler, he hasn’t done anything yet. But the thing is, he also has had some feelings for Bax, the drummer of an upcoming band. Never has he had feelings as strong as this for not just one person but two. And he can’t help but wonder if it would be possible for the three of them to be something. And hope is ignited when after a game that Tyler and Soren played against one another, they meet up at a bar and meet Bax. The chemistry between them is definitely there. And though they only have one night to chat with one another, it leaves an impression. And to their surprise, Tyler is soon traded to Soren’s team. Now they are all in the same place. Can they actually make a go at a relationship with one another? This was definitely a low angst story. Soren is finding his groove on the ice while wrapping his head around the fact that he is falling for these two guys. Tyler is worried that he will get yet another injury this season and just wants to find a place he belongs. And Bax is hoping his band gets their big break but is also dealing with some drama from his best friend who seems to be keeping everyone at a distance. Overall, just a fun light story with these three!
Game Winner by Susan Scott Shelley is part of the multi-author The Games We Play-Season 2 Series. This book is independent of the other books in the series, but there are several characters that are mentioned from the author’s other novels. This is the first Susan Scott Shelley book that I have read. I enjoyed it, but as I read it, I had the feeling I would know the characters better if I read another book before it. While there are three main characters in the book, there are a lot of side characters who play into the story line quite a bit. Game Winner is a MMM romance between Bax Knight, a drummer for a rising rock band, and two minor league hockey players, Soren Lindstrom and Tyler Moore. As the story starts Bax and Soren are friends who are attracted to each other but have not acted on their feelings. Then Tyler is traded to the Saint Paul Slash and an attraction develops between the three men. I enjoyed the story and the characters. I thought the personalities of the guys were well developed and interesting. The story had a cozy element to it more than the spice I was expecting. I liked reading how the dynamic between the three men played out and their relationship developed as their lives changed. I received an ARC for my honest review.
It was an entertaining and light read which I greatly enjoyed. I also liked how Soren, Tyler, and Bax interacted, how the three fell in love with one another, how this was all so sweet and natural. It was interesting to see Soren work through his crushes and also to understand that he was falling in love with two people and the tension between the two was managed in a less dramatized plain follow through manner.
I also enjoyed the combination of music and hockey although the story was more of a band than I anticipated. The hockey moments and the discovered family in the teams provided the feel of coziness and comradeship to the story. The fact that Tyler was injured and how they both worked together through it was a slight emotional touch but did not load the story.
The book is not that spicy or angsty and it is certainly a fast read, however, it is sweet and pleasant. The characters are relatable, and the conclusion is good with all the three having a happy ending. All in all, a light and easy breezy flick, I would suggest to everyone who wants something easy and sweet with an element of romance.
"When I'm with them, it feels like my heart has grown three sizes."
This was a fun, solid story to read. I liked the characters, and the plot was pretty sweet. The best part about the story was the found family aspect, which is a huge plus in stories nowadays. Having the two teams plus Bax's band mates gave each MC a wide variety of friends and support.
This was also an interesting dive into the story for me because these characters were completely new, so if there had been a little bit of backstory from another book and their characters, I didn't have that, but this book starts out as if we're already aware of the attraction between Soren & Bax at minimum.
I really enjoyed my read through of Game Winner. It's only the second book I've had the privilege to read from Susan Scott Shelley, but when I saw this one available, I knew I wanted to check it out. It's wonderful if you enjoy fun trio romances and sweet characters. I was happily rooting for them throughout their story.
"The three of us, writing our own love song, where the lyrics change every day, but the melody remains a happily ever after."
I received an authorized copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.
“Game Winner” by Susan Scott Shelley is part of ‘The Games We Play—Season Two’ series and features rocker Bax, hockey goalie Soren, and hockey player Tyler. The three men are finally in the same place at the same time, and their mutual attraction makes them cautiously optimistic, if they can focus on their respective goals.
This adult contemporary M/M/M romance provides an intriguing look at two very different worlds that both require intense dedication and hard work. I liked the dynamics between the guys, but for some reason I wasn’t drawn into the story as much as I would have liked. There were fun elements, including a wayward bearded dragon, yoga poses, and the challenges of suddenly being traded to a team in a very different climate, but there were also LOTS of threads, some of which I suspect are for a connected story. There is also a previous connected story that may provide more background to the dynamics between some of the characters, so it may be helpful to read that one (“Power Move”).
This is an MMM romance between 2 hockey players and a drummer in an up & coming rock band. It's light on spice and light on plot. I can't help but feel these characters were all part of different books that I didn't read because I felt like I was just dropped in the middle of it at the beginning. The description claimed prior reading not required.
Anyhow, there's drama between bandmates, there's trading Tyler the hockey player to the team hockey player Soren is on, there's lots of found family among the hockey teams (a number of guys from both the major and minor league teams are good friends), and there's an HEA. Tyler is injured not long after being traded, so there's a bit of drama over his recovery. Not much angst, not much spice, and it's a quick read. Don't understand why there was so much emphasis on the band when the overall theme is supposed to be sports. It felt too short for all it tried to do.
This story builds its triad slowly and beautifully, letting Soren, Bax, and Tyler find their rhythm at a pace that feels natural and deeply satisfying. The chemistry between the three of them is undeniable, but what really pulled me in was the emotional layering—each of them carrying their own pressures, ambitions, and insecurities, yet finding something grounding in one another.
I loved how the worlds of minor-league hockey and rising-star rock intertwined, giving the story a great mix of tension, passion, and camaraderie. The bandmates and teammates add a lovely sense of found family that makes the romance feel even richer.
And although the rockstar trope isn’t usually my go-to, I ended up enjoying the Flame Shade side of things so much that I’m quietly hoping the rest of the band will get their turn in the spotlight. There are definitely more stories waiting there. I received a free arc copy and this is my honest review
Soren (hockey) has feelings for Bax (drummer), as well as Tyler (hockey) who he's known and played against. Dax has feelings for Soren, but he and Tyler have never met, nor has Soren and Bax acted on their mutual attraction (mutual friends).
Tyler gets traded to Soren's team, and moves in with the all the boys (Gio & Phil's house).
They go to a local bar to celebrate, and the attraction between Bax, Soren and Tyler is instantaneous (and so sweet!)!🔥
Game Winner is a 3 POV story, as told by Bax, Soren and Tyler, but expect a beautiful hea, a call to the pro league, a band getting a hard fought (a well deserved) contract with a major label, new family, friends and a sweet bearded dragon!
Two (2) thing: This book should be longer, and I really, really, REALLY hope Layne (Bax's bestie since they were little kids), gets his hea with...Thorne?🙏🏽🥹🎤👨🏻🎤🔥
3.5 🌟 Bax, Soren and Tyler's story was cute with low angst and lovely side characters who I'd love to read more about. I'm not usually a big fan of MMM but I liked the blurb so I decided to give it a try. This was more sweet than spice and I think for MMM I may like that more as when it's more spice I feel like someone always gets left out and I haven't read many MMM books that give that beautiful balance but the way these three got together and grew together made me appreciate their story and love them too. I do wish I got a little more from them though as 200 pages can be a struggle to tell a story of three men falling in love plus some slow burn and with careers like theirs because we don't always get a full sense of their relationship so I would have liked if I could have seen more of that. But I did enjoy the book and I would love to read more from this author as well.
This book was a delicious slow burn. I loved everything about it!!!
The intimate moments between Soren, Bax and Tyler were perfectly written. I could easily picture each scene play out in my mind. And the layers of friendship and found family with the bandmates and hockey teammates worked perfectly.
While I’ve never been a big fan of the rockstar trope, I really hope the other members of Flame Shade get their own stories. I’d love to see how Everett and Gavin fell in love and see Layne find his HEA.
Thank you to Gay Romance Reviews and Susan Scott Shelly for the advanced copy. I am voluntarily leaving this review.
2.5 stars This was a curious story. The storyline itself was fine and had the potential to become great. Somehow the author managed to tell the story without any relationship development whatsoever and since that is my favourite part in well-written romance stories I was a little disappointed. The whole found family vibe with the housemates was probably my favourite part of this story. The side plot with the band made the whole story feel fractured and I wasn't 100% sure why it was included. This could have been really good but for me it fell a little flat. Hopefully others had a better reading experience.
This is an MMM book between 2 hockey players and a Rockstar. Soren and Tyler start out at friends but also rivals as they play for opposite hockey teams. Bax is friends with Soren and has always had a crush on Soren. When Tyler, Bax and Soren all start to realize that they are attracted to each other sparks fly off the charts. Tyler has never really felt he belonged. Soren is also finally getting the attention of the major hockey league along with Tyler and Bax's band is getting record label attention.
All 3 individuals are looking for something different and find in an the most unlikely of places with each other.
Things are going well for Bax with his music, but he needs a distraction from the pressure to succeed. The distraction ends up coming from Soren & Tyler, hockey players who are trying to find their way in their own careers.
The pressure ends up on all of them, but they always try to help & support each other throughout, which is great.
Nice story, well written… There wasn’t a lot going on in the story, just some anxious people trying to accomplish their goals, really. It was a quick & easy romance story.
I received this free ARC, and this is my honest review.
The title says it all, this book is a game winner. I feel hard for this MMM hockey romance having read it in one sitting. It was the three main characters, Bax, Soren, and Tyler that sold it for me. Each was perfectly described in a way that I wanted to hang out with them and be friends with them. There is love angst as the star of this book is the three men, who come together to find love with surprising little angst and drama. It was so good that I read it in one sitting and when I finished I had a big smile on my face. A great read.
Thank you for the book, here is my honest opinion: I enjoyed the hockey side of the story, the team dynamic is well done and the teammates added a lot of fun to the world building. I thought the connection between Soren and Tyler was authentic and I liked them together. I wasn’t too interested in the fledgling rock band side of the story. A lot of energy is focused on the band and their dysfunctional drama which wasn’t too interesting to me. I liked the characters individually, but this never quite came together for me, as a poly relationship.
This is a great read! I just wish I knew what happens to Tyler. If MMM romance makes you queasy, you may want to skip this book. That would be a shame, because Soren, Bax, and Tyler make a wonderful throuple. Soren and Tyler are ice hockey players, and Bax is a drummer and museum docent. They have a simmering attraction to each other at first, which then flares to a bonfire. There's angst and steam. I really enjoyed this and recommend it.
This book felt a bit rushed because there were 3 MCs who hardly saw each other in person for most of their relationship before they confessed their love for each other. If their relationship was longer than 5 or 6 months, with less of their relationship taking place over online gaming and texting, then I would've liked it better. Besides, the ending of the book left them without any guarantee of any of them being in the same space at the same time for long.
Sweet! Bax's rock band is finally being noticed. Soren, is rocking it as a goalie and feels his star rising. Tyler, is struggling. His constant injuries keep him riding the bench more than on the ice. When he is traded, he's brought back into Soren's orbit and gets to connect with Bax. They develop a rhythm then need to make some choices. This is a nice romance of three adorable men. Nicely done. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leavng a review.
I've read a bunch of hockey romances, but not many MMM ones and I don't think I've ever read one where a hockey player (or in this case two) falls for a drummer in a band. Their views of each others' careers and struggles were interesting and it was nice seeing hockey from two different perspective of players on different trajectories. All three supported each other as they figured out what their relationship could be and what they really wanted out of life.
The story is told from 3 POV's and you kinda get the sense that there is more to the background but it's a standalone read. Two of the MC's are known to each other through same group of friends/family and they each though they hid their attraction/distant pining from everyone....not !! hehehehe And that changes when the 3rd MC comes along....which is the catalyst of acting upon that attraction. Low angst and light on plot - it's an okay read.
Soren is a goalie on the brink of breaking into the big leagues when Tyler, a forward he has long been attracted to, is acquired from another team. But their shared attraction to Bax, a local drummer is what bonds them together. This story is more of a low burn. The author doesn't depend on spicy love scenes to keep the reader interested. I loved seeing how each man navigated their personal obstacles to build a healthy relationship
Look, I just don't understand why this was an MMM romance. There was no actual relationship development, no challenges relating to the polyamory, and no explicit sex. Only two of the three main characters had other things going on in their lives, so... why even bother with the third?
I love MMM romances, but this was just... pretending to be one? I wasn't fooled.
This is a first-time read of mine for this author but i was interested in the premise of this book and wanted to try it out. This book was overall a really short and cute read. I loved the characters and i found the relationship fun and loving. The found family aspect of this book was really good as well, not only with the hockey players but also the band's dynamic as well. I will say that there were a few times that i found myself a bit more interested in the side characters' relationships, specifically the bandmates, than i was with the main trio, so i am really interested to see if any of them will get a story. Overall this was a quick and cute book, with low angst, relatively low spice, and a really cozy vibe, so if that's what you're looking for, then i would definitely recommend it.
This is season 2 of a multi author hockey series and is a MMM read. I enjoyed the book well enough but I felt like I should have known more about these characters than I did, perhaps they were from a previous book but there were parts that seemed odd without more context. Fairly light on spice and light on plot but still a cute read.
Too short! It wasn’t enough for me to really enjoy Tyler, Bax and Soren. I loved their drama free relationship.
There was no will they-won’t they guesses about the three of them. They all had a thing for each other and pursued it without drama. Just the way I like it😆
Overall, it was a short but sweet story about three guys who finally found their one.
This book was sweet and low angst, I enjoyed this relationship build and adored the way these three men showed love and support for each other. I wouldn't say it was overly fluffy but it was one of those feel good stories that you can just sink into and embrace the sweetness ❤️.
* I received an ARC from GRR, this is my open and honest review *
This is a standalone story within The Games We Play series, and is MMM. Add to that we have two hockey players and a rockstar, and I was so excited to read this. I felt that this handled the aspect of a relationship between three men very well. This was a fun, sweet, low angst story and I enjoyed it quite a bit.
This book is part of a multi-authored series! I loved Bax, Soren and Tyler's story it's wonderfully written and super engaging! Loved this story and it was filled with great characters and an emotional story! I read an advanced copy of this book and this is my unbiased review!
