And Lissa Del, aka Melissa Delport, you are evil. Yes, I said it.
On to the review, or whatever.
I am, in all honesty, speechless. It's 4.04am and I've forgone sleep to finish this book, carrying my iPhone to the kitchen to fix a cuppa (it went untouched), drawing a hot bath (never got in), doing everything possible to stay awake so I could uncover what on God's green earth would happen with Sarah and Leo. And then, and then.....
There are few authors that can captivate from the first page, drawing you deeper, deviating from the contemporary romance norm yet staying perfectly within its confines.
Our main characters, Sarah and Leo, met, fell in love, and subsequently had a happy healthy relationship. I love characters that are not lone rangers and with the innumerable damaged book heroines out there, I feel a deep appreciation toward Lissa Del for making Sarah a product of a happy home complete with caring parents and a sibling.
Likewise Leo. Nice, lovable, kind, with two siblings. See? Not all book characters need to be orphans or damaged individuals.
If I could characterise the tone of this story in a single word, it would be: Mature. Lacking in unnecessary drama or angst, portraying a profound understanding of human nature; showing the characters- not as caricatures- but in a realistic and honest manner. I suppose the author's background, in psychopathology, helped in no small measure.
At roughly 60% the story pivots and much to our dismay, the conflict is introduced. Then the reader along with Sarah- gets the shocking revelation. Thereafter, we can only but watch as the plot careens to a climax you would have never imagined.
I want my mummy, Lissa does not play nice.
