Burke Sinclair and Meredith Sutherland want nothing more than to be married, but ancient clan hostilities tear them apart. When Meredith is forced to marry another to appease her father and secure an alliance, the young lovers think all is lost.
Only to be reignited…
Ten long years of a stifling marriage nearly crush Meredith’s spirit. But when her unfeeling husband dies and Burke, now a grown man and a hardened warrior, suddenly reappears in her life, the two may get a second chance at first love—if old blood feuds don’t rip them apart once and for all.
USA Today bestselling author Emma Prince whisks readers away to another time and place with her steamy historical romances—where the passion is legendary, the adventure never ends, and the happily ever afters are guaranteed!
After several years as a college English instructor (where she savored her “fun books”—usually historical romances—on the side), Emma turned her love of page-turning, richly historical stories into a career. She lives in drizzly Seattle with her husband, their daughter (the wee lass) and a crazy cat named Oban (after the town in Scotland or the whisky made there, depending on who you ask).

Short and Sweet While all of Prince’s novels could be shorter this novella could be a little longer. I would have liked a little more discussion about how they had been hurt by the actions of the other. Burke just gave up the fight for Meredith and I think she would have been hurt by that. Also, I’m sure Burke would have been bitter with Meredith for marrying another. I liked both Burke and Meredith and thought they were sweet together. I read this in about 1.5 hours and I am slow reader. I have read every book published by Emma Prince, she is one of my favorite authors. She is consistent in her writing ability, usually earning 4-5 stars from me. WARNING: there is sex in this book, it is not erotica, but enough to be a steamy & hot adult romance. Please do not read if you are looking for something PG. Romance-5/5 Steaminess-3/5 Explicitness-3/5
my first romance novella. I never was much for short stories. I like to stay with the characters for a bit. The story is sweet but way too short for me. I didn't really want to know about Meredith's struggles in her first marriage. or how Burke and Meredith met and fell in love 10 years ago. Here and now eh, what's happening here and now? I think the problem was not that the story was only a novella. The problem was that in 100 pages we only get to read about maybe 30 pages of the current days of the main characters. Well they finally had sex for the first time after 10 years and Meredith's brother refused to let them marry. and they fought for their future and lived happily ever after....that was it. i finished the 100 page book in 30 minutes.
Forth & last book of Knight of My Dreams. I nearly missed it as it starts at 93% point.
Burke Sinclair, the lairds cousin, was a secondary character on an important spying mission in Highlander's Redemption. This is his story.
Young love thwarted because of long fuede. Meredith was forced into marriage with a cruel man. Burke became a valued warrior. With death of her father & faithless husband hope that peace can be brokered.
A novella that filled in some more background of the power brokers of Sinclair clan.
I liked this quick little story. I wish Burke would have been as sarcastic and funny as he was in the first two books but, I guess, this was his time to be serious. I understand that. I like Burke and I'm happy he got his own HEA. To those of you scanning reviews to answer the question "Is there sex?" Yes and it's good, too.
I'd listen to anything read by Tim Campbell. His voice is amazing.
As soon as Burke's lost love was mentioned in the previous book, I wanted to know EVERYTHING.
I liked the way Meredith and Burke met, and how he begged to marry her. The way their eyes met while he was gazing up at her at the tower was so romantic. Their- reconnection- was really fast though. I feel like the story could've been fleshed about a little more.
Burke was a little more silver-tongued and charming in the first two books. I kind of wish that had carried over, and honestly I didn't really get much of a feel for Meredith.
All in all, not bad.

This is the third in a series, 2.5, of the Sinclair Brothers Trilogy.
If I could have given more than 5 stars to any of the 3 Emma Prince in the Sinclair Brothers Trilogy, I would have! I have read one after the other as soon as one is completed. I feel as though they are my family. I am getting ready to read the last book in the Trilogy, then I will be grieving the loss of my new family. The characters are so endearing.. The stories are nail bitingly, edge of your seat, interesting. Looking forward to more of Emma Prince's writing!
I absolutely enjoyed this outstanding book. I think Brianna acclimated to time travel very well, took her some time, but I enjoyed her thinking. I loved how she used her talents from the future, she was amazing at what she did. Robert is such a calming force and such a big help. I loved all the intrigue, suspense, twists, surprises, and drama. I wanted this story to continue it was that good.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Excellent story and I can’t wait to read the next one
This was a really good story and I liked it that it didn’t have too many battles in it, and it was more of clan feuds and romance. Emma is such a good writer and I love her books and I read them more than once. This series is definitely a good read.
‘Highlander’s Return,’ is truly, a lovely, heartwarming, quick read. I loved it! Burke’s charismatic character gets his HEA... which I was hoping he would get, after hearing his advice to Garrick.
It was a true love story where boy saves girl falls for her is not allowed to marry her. Won't love anyone else and finds her a widow ten years later still in love with each other and fights her brother for permission to marry her.
While I truly enjoyed the Sinclair Brothers Trilogy, I wish you had Of included a second epilogue tying the stories together. For example did the brothers have children and if so how many.
Emma Prince thank you for sharing this beautiful series with us. I just love that all worked out for these 2. They deserved happiness for sure! Loved this Family! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😊😊😊😊😊💜💜💜💜💜
Burke's story. There's someone for everyone. Burke thought he had missed his chance as indicated in the last book. Although brief, it leads us on to the next Sinclair adventure. Well done.
It was ok, I’m not really into the short stories. There wasn’t enough interest for me to get all the way to the end. Too much reflecting on the past. Not into reminiscing stories.
Stars 4/5 (Jennifer Ashley, Sarah MacLean, Jess Michaels, Margaret Mallory, Julie Johnstone, Monica McCarty)
Hey fellow readers I don’t summarize the books (as there are always great full summaries written that I read myself).
I only give it my personal, general, summary of 5 stars to 1 star.
4 stars: This book was good, worth reading in a few days. It hit pretty much most of my personal markers for a good read and well roundness of the book; it just lacked ‘something’ for 5 stars (usually a little slower moving for my liking and/or humour and/or romantic).
The development and interest in main characters and secondary characters was enjoyable. Laugh out loud and/or smirk with humorous moments. Movement of the book flowed for the most part. Book writing/conversation engaging. romantic/sexual content (3 or more scenes) was throughout the book.
Will definitely re-read this book to enjoy it again.
Loved this short, sweet story. The beginning is more introspective, and you really get a sense for the characters and what life has been like for them for the years that they were forced apart. Then things really pick up, and there is a very happy (and steamy) resolution. I'm so glad Burke got his own story, and I loved Meredith too! I love a good "second chance at love" story, and this one was a real joy to read.
This one takes place at the same time as the second novel (Highlander's Redemption), so both end with a setup for the third novel. I am so excited for it--I can't wait!
A novella in the Sinclair Brothers Trilogy, this story is about Burke.
He's the second to Laird Robert Sinclair.
When he returns from a mission with Garrick, he hears news that has him wondering if a love he lost 10 years ago in youth is now a possibility.
Although Burke isn't one of the brothers, he's a central character in each of the books, smoothing the way for the intense brothers with his easy smile and charm. I am glad he got his own story.
Wow, even though this book is a bonus novella, it was rich in detail and followed book # 2 closely (Highlander's Redemption). I highly recommend reading this series in order. Details and story plots are closely tied together. Enjoying this series very much...cannot wait for book #3!! P.S. Love the time-period notes that followed each story.
This book shows how women were mere objects to be used for mens own wishes with no regard for them as a person. Even Fathers treated their daughters as no more than an object to do with as they pleased. Read this book and see how love is found and peace achieved.
If you plan on reading this read it before the last book in the series as it needs to be read in that order, on another note it is a fast read, but is still good , I read this whole series and each book was well written and enjoyable, I would recommend any of the books in this series.
I knew this book was only 90 pages but before I knew it, I was finished! I enjoyed reading the love evolve between the two characters when they first met, 10 years earlier. Then after 10 years, the love was still there when they met again. Good short story.
