When Sadie Kramer meets up with her friend Myrtle for a girls weekend in Las Vegas, they look forward to enjoying everything the Prohibition-themed Speakeasy Hotel and Casino has to offer. They’re especially thrilled when VIP tickets to the hotel’s sold-out production of Bugsy’s Juice Joint unexpectedly fall into their hands. That is until the body of the show’s director is found in his hotel room and the show is postponed.
With suspects spread between the casino, the theater, and even the financial office, Sadie and Myrtle have sleuthing added to their agenda. Add in Coco’s typical Yorkie antics involving everything from cucumbers to roulette wheels, and it’s bound to be a weekend no one will forget. Will Sadie manage to solve this mystery? Or will what happens in Vegas stay in Vegas this time?
Deborah Garner is an accomplished travel writer with a passion for back roads and secret hideaways. Born and raised in California, she studied in France before returning to the U.S. to attend UCLA. After stints in graduate school and teaching, she attempted to clone herself for decades by founding and running a dance and performing arts center, designing and manufacturing clothing and accessories, and tackling both spreadsheets and display racks for corporate retail management. Her passions include photography, hiking and animal rescue. She speaks five languages, some substantially better than others. She now divides her time between California and Wyoming, dragging one human and two canines along whenever possible.
Leave it to Sadie to find a mystery where ever she goes! Add in her friend Myrtle and you have a true whodunnit book! It was a wonderful read! And then, add in some shenanigans by a little yorkie and see how Sadie gets her self escorted out of the casino and spa! Another wonderful story by Ms.Garner! I can’t wait for the next one!
The book was a bit slow for me but once all the characters were introduced it started moving along. The hotel where Sadie and Myrtle stayed was a 1920s prohibition theme that sounded fun. Just when you think it's all fluff, Sadie gets her clues together and the murder is solved.
Sadie and Coco’s adventures are always fun, and this book is no exception! Las Vegas is a great setting, and I loved the Art Deco and Prohibition theme of the hotel which is brought to life with vivid descriptions. The murder mystery had nice twists and it was a very enjoyable read.
