Things are looking up for Val Valentyn. After their great success stumbling on to the identity of the real killer of Val’s boss, she and her friends, Julie and Rose, have opened their own private detective agency. And after only six weeks in business they’re starting to make a name for themselves. There is that minor problem of the client who says she is going to sue, but you can’t please everyone.
So, when a woman asks them to find her mother’s killer, they’re not about to let the fact that they know almost nothing about solving a murder stop them from taking the case. Seriously, how hard can it be?
Comatoast is the second book in the laugh-out-loud Val Valentyn series.
This is not a humorous mystery. This is three idiots pretending to be detectives because they took a class and think they can solve a murder days after one of them comes out of a coma. And let's not forget that two of them scoop poop as a day job. This doesn't require suspension of disbelief. It requires suspension of any sort of intelligence. Don't waste your time. I guess now I know why it was free!
Amusing at times but juvenile. The plot line was about the murder of an obnoxious roommate of the main character while she was hospitalized in a coma. She could hear everything going on and the victim was disliked by all. Val, the comatose, and friends have a new investigative PI business and the daughter of the victim hires them to take on the case of “who-done-it” in conjunction with the police which weren’t happy about it, needless to say.
The ladies also have a side business of “Super Scooping” yards of dog-poop, ugh, but in many instances it was the basis for the wit and humor.
This is a series of books that many apparently like. Not my cup of tea, but it may be just what you need at any given time for a change of pace. There are many characters. Most are skimpily developed and rightfully so for this type of story.
If you want a clever investigator, that's definitely not Val.
Another quirky zany read about our bumbling would be investigator. A coma, a dead patient and her mother could be in the frame for the murder. Asked to investigate by one od dead woman's children, she and her budding would be investigating partners start digging deeper. Okay this one was fairly obvious as to whodunit but it's like watching a train wreck you have to keep reading until the end.
This is my first book from Judith Jackson but it won't be my last. I laughed until my stomach hurt at the antics in the book. My daughter kept asking me what was so funny and I would have to read excerpt to her. If you enjoy Janet Evanovich then I think you will really like this book. The main character reminds me of Stephanie Plum with about as much luck and skill.
The beginning was original and humorous, with lots of quirky characters and families that for once are real. Not like the perfect families so often portrayed. Great fun and entertaining to the end.
Good story, and humorous. The main characters are bumbling detectives at best, and complete idiots otherwise who only solve cases by backing into the answers. A fun read.
Very, very funny. I loved the humor in this wacky murder mystery. The detective agency with the three older ladies was a hoot. I am eager to read more of Judith's work.
