The Secret of the StairsFor those with a burning hunger for more...the Song of Solomon reveals the processes of God in the lives of those who seek to know Him more fully and personally. In The Secret of the Stairs, Wade Taylor sets forth the steps that lead to spiritual maturity and intimate communion with the Lord as depicted in the love relationship of the Song of Solomon. From the call to "Rise up...and come away," to the Bride's declaration, "I am my Beloved's and His desire is toward me," the author presents clear spiritual insight and its practical outworking based on personal experience. This book stands in contrast to the quick answers and easy methods popular today. The Psalmist speaks," Deep calls to deep." The deeps of God are heard only in the depths of the spirit of man. This book opens the reader to a path, which leads from these depths to the mountaintop with our Lord.More than a book to read, it is food for the spirit.
Honestly a bit of a bizarre book. But it felt like it was written directly to me in this chapter of my life. If you're looking for a book that is quite different, yet inspires new, complex thoughts about your faith journey, this is a great book to read!
The Lord seeks to know us intimately. The "Song of Solomon" describes God's desire for us to choose Him above all else. "The Secret of The Stairs" was writen for those who actively desire to come into the fullness of all that our Lord desires for them, those who are spiritually hungry. The Song of Solomon" lays out the spiritual steps to becoming part of the corporate Bride of Christ. "The Secret of The Stairs" aides in the understanding of our journey toward intimacy with our groom, Jesus, in His chambers. This book was instrumental in giving me deeper insight for reading the "Song of Solomon." I would definitely recommend it and I am planning to purchase a hard copy for further study!
It was difficult deciding on a star rating for this. On one hand, the book has some beautiful thoughts about Jesus' desire to have an intimate relationship as explained by a close examination of the Song of Solomon. The book was beautifully written to describe his pursuit and desire for us. However, some of the analogies seemed a bit of a stretch and follow along with and there were a few places where his interpretation seemed a bit subjective. I would normally provide specific examples in a review but I didn't happen to take detailed notes while reading this book. If I could, I would have given it a 3.5 star rating. Overall, a very worthwhile read to get me to ponder the intimate relationship God desires to have with me personally.
You know you are different. You know you see and hear things no one else sees or hears. But you don't know why....You think it must be common sense, but it isn't common sense to everyone else. You know you are different....this book tells you why. If you were chosen, you can't know what you are supposed to do with your gifts, until you know why you were chosen. Then the whole sky opens up and you understand. Thank you for sharing your perspective Wade E. Taylor.
This book tells the awesome story of God's love for us. I read it back in the late 90's and still refer to it today. It breaks down the Song of Solomon in a way you'd never expect and challenges the reader to examine where they are in their relationship (not RELIGION) with a God who continues to love us in spite of us. Every time I re-read it, I fall deeper in love.
This writing captivated me & has inspired me to continue on in my walk up the stairs with my Lord. What a great visual of the stairs & what insight to the Song of Solomon. This book should be read by every believer who is hungry for more of a consciousness of the Lord in their everyday life.
I can't say I have a lot to "complain" about with this book. It does make a good attempt at showing the evolution of our walk with Christ in the story of the Song. (which he compares to going up a staircase)
I did find it hard to follow in the the way verses were jumped around in, and found it somewhat repetitive. Personally I'm also not one that gets much anymore out of flowery religious language ("church," Christ as our personal Savior, etc.) ... even phrases like "abiding in Christ," etc., while used in some translations of course, can become useless with overuse. So what happens is after awhile of using language that we were taught in religion, is that what we are trying to express can start to feel cold and religious - even though the purpose isn't that at all in the book!
Overall, I am thankful to have read it! I may not agree with everything the author said, or how he said it, but we can almost always get something out of someone's attempt at writing about the Song, who are seeking God's truth. The Song of Songs is an endlessly rich book for those who desire to intimately know and love Christ, and I appreciate that this author gives us some glimpses of ourselves and Christ in its pages to seriously ponder!

All I can say is Wow! This book was a blessing which made me think about my walk and life with Jesus, and to want even more than I already have...and, now I want to do or attend a bible study on The Book of Solomon (KJV)... which I intend on reading for myself.
I recommend this book to anyone in search of answers. It explains so much about a life in Christ Jesus and for those who are looking for the MORE of Jesus.
As the subtitle indicates, this is a study through the book of Song of Solomon. From the introduction, there are a number of ways to read and interpret Song of Solomon. This book takes the view of an example of our walk with the Lord - from relationship for what I am given to an intimate partnership of working side by side. I've actually read this about 4 times now and get something from it each time. Last fall, Wade Taylor spoke every Tues. evening at the church I attend. It was fun to read this this time having heard him speak so regularly last fall.
This book was a different way of looking at Song of Solomon. I enjoyed how he related us to the Bride coming into full communion with the Bridegroom (Our Lord). Until we fully give ourselves over to the Lord and have a deep, meaningful relationship with Him, we can't begin to lead others into that relationship. And God was a deep relationship with all of us.
It was a very complicated book to read but afterwards I understood it better and I was able to understand what God asks of us and we have to do it on our own decision he gives us a choice to choose if we want to follow HIM
