Cynthia Rella saves the life of a runner in Golden Gate Park with no idea he’s Rex DuCharmante, the man who adopted her daughter, twenty-seven years before. When her ex husband Jon—now a gay drag queen—gives her the news, Cynthia schemes to secretly attend her daughter’s night wedding. Only problem? She’s just lost all her money and house to her evil stepsisters. So she borrows Jon’s Carol Channing costume and sneaks into the high society affair. Cynthia runs into Rex, who sweeps her off her feet. As she rushes off to meet her midnight deadline, she leaves her shoe behind. Rex is determined to find the mystery woman, but when he tracks Cynthia down, he gets way more than he’s bargained for when Cynthia’s evil stepsisters come gunning for him and his adopted daughter.

About the author

Janet began her writing career at age twelve with the sci-fi screenplay “The Sounds of Quazon” which consisted of about a paragraph in which two astronauts engaged in such titillating dialogue as: “Did you hear that?” “What was that?”

Janet’s next writing project was at nineteen when she co-wrote a play for a real estate company’s Christmas party. She was paid fifty dollars for her work and the clients were very happy.

Her true passion for writing ignited when she took a playwriting class at UC Santa Cruz in 1988. After achieving her Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts (with an emphasis in acting) in 1989, Janet initiated, developed and taught an after-school drama program at Pescadero High School and wrote in her spare time. After four years, she quit teaching to write full-time.

In 1999, after completing ten novels, Janet started writing a monthly humor column for CoastViews magazine, a job she held until the publication folded in 2013. In 2000, she sold her first reprint to Funny Times and her work continues to appear in the national humor magazine. For several years, Janet wrote an advice column called What Would Janet Do? for CoastViews, and wrote short romantic fiction for a commercial website under a pen name.

For seventeen years, she performed as Master of Ceremonies for The Pescadero Arts and Fun Festival. She lives in Northern California and has been married since the dawn of civilization to her husband, Frank. Her cat, Forrest, is her current writing partner, although most of the cat’s ideas seem to surround the consumption of tuna. In her spare time, Janet gardens and sculpts strange creatures out of polymer clay.
