He should have turned her in. Instead, he rebels against the prophecy that says he must destroy what she’s destined to become.

B J Wilde is the author of The Sky Called Her Home & The Darkness Remembered Her Name — a lyrical, soul-stirring romantasy about magic, rebellion, and remembering who you are. She writes stories for the wild-hearted, lives by the sea in Australia, and believes art is how we remember.
It’s stardust and soul. It’s EVERYTHING🥹 Lyrical, haunting, and otherworldly in a way that slips beneath your skin and stays. I don’t have the words to do it justice—which is wild, because all I want to do is talk about it forever. It felt like the story I didn’t know I was waiting for—summoned from the stars and spilled onto the page, wrapped in constellations and wonder.
I’ve always had a soft spot for the night sky—for stars, meteor showers, and that quiet magic that only lives in the dark. And this book? It blessed that love. The magic is literally written in the stars. Elemental. Divine. The worldbuilding is lush, vivid, so immersive I could see it every time I closed my eyes.
And Elyssara? Our heroine. Our fire. She carries galaxies on her shoulders and still stands tall—fierce, vulnerable, radiant. She is prophecy and power. A star rewritten into a woman. I love her with my entire soul💫
And then there’s Kael. If you know me, you already KNOW. Morally grey. Dark hair. Crooked grin. A filthy mouth and a shadowed heart. He is chaos and gravity and heartbreak and ugh. I. Am. A. PUDDLE. This man will ruin you in the best way. I don’t want to be saved—not from him😮💨
The chemistry? Off the charts. The found family? Had me swooning. The roguish sidekick? I’d die for him. Twice. And the celestial elements?? I am in a literal CHOKEHOLD. Either this book is laced with starlight or with crack because I was hooked from page ONE🧎♀️
If you’ve ever taken a book rec from me—let it be this one. Please. From the bottom of my stardust-soaked heart: read this book. Let it unravel you. Let it remind you why we believe in magic✨
@bjwildewrites I am floored. This is a debut??? You’ve wrecked me. Healed me. Blessed me. Thank you for this world, this story, this magic. My heart will never be the same—and honestly? I don’t want it to be💖
This book is my entire galaxy now. And I will be screaming about it until the stars burn out 💫💖
THIS BOOK. This book has rendered me speechless. As a reader, I am continuously chasing that delicious reading high that certain books can give you, and The Sky Called Her Home delivers it with a captivating cocktail of lyrical prose, gritty intensity and authentic characters that feel like coming home. This book made me FEEL. Consider me completely obsessed.
It's like BJ somehow knew all my absolute favourite tropes but enhanced them with teeth and GRIT and smoke, gripping me in a chokehold that didn't let go. The intoxicating blend of banter and humour with darkness and emotion had me giggling out loud in some chapters and covered in goosebumps in others.
I was IN this world. The imagery is blended seamlessly with detailed descriptions of scent and sound, creating a fully immersive experience that is vibrant and addictive. There's no dumping of information, the world building unfolds organically as the plot progresses.
The characters are beautifully developed, each one layered and intriguing. I freaking loved Elyssara, Ronyn stole my heart instantly, and Kael?? It's been a long time since I've gone completely feral over an MMC. Kael had me in a puddle. A PUDDLE.
I love it when a developing relationship is given time to breathe, and I reveled in Elyssara and Kael's conversations, in seeing the delicate thread forming between them, in witnessing the fire in their fights. The pacing was a perfect balance of action with quiet moments, building the intensity of the plot while nurturing the vulnerability, and I literally cannot put into words the feelings I had while reading.
This has a magic system unlike any I've seen before (you will meet Shadowweaves and Aetherstrides, a Lightborne and Bloodbonds), foreshadowing and breadcrumbs throughout that kept me guessing, and plot twists and revelations that left me with tears streaming down my face. Books don't make me cry, ever. This one did.
If you love emotive, lyrical writing, lush world building, a unique, powerful plot, and characters you will OBSESS over, I implore you to read this book.
There is magic and soul in your writing Brit. It was an absolute honour to read this, it is now my entire personality until book two is in my hands.
The Sky Called Her Home is BJ Wilde's debut novel and what a way to come out with a bang!
We're thrown straight into the action from the first page and let me tell you I was hooked! The world building comes so naturally as we move through Aevryn, the characters are so well developed and I felt so invested in each and every one of them. Our fmc is fierce and feisty and our shadow daddy mmc is all kinds of possessive and protective.
Then we have such an amazingly unique magic system where magical abilities are different depending on the constellation a person is born under.
We have realms at war, a prophecy to fulfil and so, so many secrets to unravel as we head on this journey.
This is easily one of the best books I've read this year and I cannot wait for book 2. Still not convinced? Swipe for some of the most amazing quotes and vibes
If you're a fan of books like When The Moon Hatched and Quicksilver then this is definitely the book for you
Literally—how is this a debut novel? The writing was so insanely immersive I forgot where I was. You know when the world outside just… falls away? That was me for every single page. I lost hours of sleep because I was so submerged in this story and honestly… worth it. Every. Single. Second.
I am officially a Kael girl. He easily moved up to the top of my all-time favorite MMC list. Give me a morally grey, shadow-wielding MMC with a smoldering gaze, dark hair, and the kind of devotion that has him falling to his knees for the girl—even when she doesn’t need it—and I will never recover. The man would raze realms for Elyssara… happy sigh.
And Elyssara? Our FMC carries the weight of the world on her shoulders and still refuses to let it extinguish her fire. She’s equal parts steel and flame—unbending, unbroken, and unforgettable.
This book also blessed us with some of my favorite side characters. Just to name two of so many… Ronyn and Daelen completely stole my heart with their unexpected humor, unwavering loyalty, and that found family warmth that seeps into your soul. The toasts, the unspoken bonds, the aching moments of yearning—it’s the kind of connection that stays with you long after you close the book.
The vibes that destroyed me in the best way:
⋆。°✩ Enemies to lovers that burns slow but fierce ⋆。°✩ Morally grey MMC, smoldering gaze, shadow-kissed magic ⋆。°✩ Strong, fiery FMC who refuses to break ⋆。°✩ Found family moments that made me feeeeel ⋆。°✩ Insane magic system I don’t think I have ever seen before ⋆。°✩ Banter, yearning, and high-stakes everything… guys there’s literally a prophecy
B.J. Wilde didn’t just write a romantasy—she breathed life into every page, took the tropes we love, and transformed them into something epic. I am in awe, I am ruined, and I fear I will never stop talking about this book.
Thank you so much for trusting me with an ARC and letting me experience this world early—it has been an absolute honor to watch your words take flight, and I cannot wait for the next book!! ♡
"How could someone feel so safe and so dangerous all at once?"
Sleep? Optional. Blinking? Rare. Breathing? Questionable. this book will consume you.
Starting this book is being dropped into a cyclone of plot twists, poetic prose, and raw emotion that doesn't let up & Elyssara's journey is top tier character evolution. A heroine stepping into her destiny with fire, grace, and vulnerability.
Every relationship she forms, from her fractured beginnings to her beautifully found family, fits like a puzzle piece falling perfectly into place.
And then there's Kael. KAEL. If book boyfriends were trophies, he's platinum tier. With his razor sharp wit, magnetic swagger, and smirks that leap off the page, he doesn't just steal hearts, he owns them. His chemistry with Elyssara? Pure stardust. They are the definition of a pairing that makes you believe in fate.
The worldbuilding was rich, immersive and cinematic. This isn't just a story. It's an experience. A wild, soul stirring, edge of your seat explosion of magic, love, and destiny that you'll wish you could read for the first time all over again!
What would you want in your next fantasy read? ✨ Fierce FMC with a haunting backstory? ✨ Red flag MMC who’s only a green flag for her? ✨ Found family? ✨ Corrupt authorities crumbling? ✨ Prophecy? ✨ Magic system based on the stars? ✨ Reluctant allies to something more?
Yes. Please.
"The Sky Called Her Home" is the debut novel by BJ Wildes. I’ve been following her for a while, and when I saw the opportunity to be an ARC reader, I figured I had nothing to lose.
I never imagined I’d actually be chosen — and I’m immensely grateful to be part of this community. 💫
The world-building is rich and immersive, making it easy to get lost in. The magic system, based on stars and constellations, adds depth and mystery without ever feeling overwhelming.
The FMC is a strong-willed lead whose journey feels authentic and compelling. Her dynamic with Kael? Pure banter and tension (hello, symmetrical!), making every interaction sparkle. ✨
If you love a good reluctant allies arc with slow-burn romance — this book delivers.
"The Sky Called Her Home" is packed with heart-stopping romance, powerful character arcs, and a world I’m already desperate to return to. I’m counting down the days until Book 2. 🖤
There’s something addictive about the way BJ writes — this was truly unputdownable.
-unique magic system -lore -shadow daddy -reluctant allies to lovers -forced proximity -found family -rebellion & prophecy -banter -dual POV
I’m still absolutely blown away that this is a debut novel! This is one of those books that has sat with me and etched a permanent spot inside my mind at all times.
It has everything you could want from a romantasy, from the lyrical prose, the immersive world-building, the magic system and the breadcrumbs, to the side characters whose stories you become so invested in: I’m looking at you Therion and Ronyn. 😉😍😮💨 (ps. check out her links for a bonus Teddy scene).
But our main characters take the cake. Elyssara is smart, strong and determined, and unshakable in what comes at her. And Kael, our dark-haired, shadow daddy is protective, loyal, intense and mysterious. I wanted to highlight his every word. The pull they feel to each other is addictive and delicious and I ate it right up.
Even the little moments in between where the raw vulnerability shows through or where the found family comes together, is so beautifully written. The heaviness makes banter and the light-hearted moments that much more impactful.
But there is also so much going on in this story that I’m dying to go back and do my reread to see all the details I might have missed. And after THAT ending, my eye is twitching in anticipation of book 2. I’m both scared and excited for what’s to come.
The Sky Called Her Home is available to read now. Book 2 The Darkness Remembered Her Name comes out in December!
This started out so strongly it had all the components of an excellent read and it sounded so so unique in concept
The way that memory had been suppressed in this world was so interesting.
However the character development was so forced and unnatural, the romance was instant there was little to no build or strong basis for it. The twists predictable and the writing was so flowery and lyrical however it was also so repeated throughout the whole book.
I am a bit bummed as it started to so well.
The magic system really needed to be explained more. Having two major villains was making things convoluted and the character of Serene was a little get out of jail free card that was used too frequently.
I am really unsure if I will pick up book 2 which is a shame as I love supporting home grown Aussie authors.
While i didn’t end up loving this book the original concept and the idea behind suppression of memory in this story was phenomenal! I think it had such a unique plot and world and it’s a shame it didn’t pull through.

First off, I will say this… ladies, maybe don’t read this whilst you’re on your period 🤭 The amount of times I cried is ridiculous.
Considering this is Brit’s debut novel, it is phenomenally written. I was transported to another world through her writing. The world building is incredible. So thorough, descriptive and emotive.
It has everything that you would want in a Romantasy novel. A journey, tasks, fight scenes, great lore, awesome character arcs and spice. They have all been so carefully considered and I can tell this is a labour of love!
The banter! Omg, the banter is brilliant!
I LOVE the work that Brit has put into her characters. Even though we only get 2 POV’s, I could feel the depth of the side characters. Elyssara is one of those FMC who’s fiery and doesn’t back down. Having had to be independent for so long, letting anyone care for her is hard. I resonate with that, sadly. Please don’t hate me but I didn’t feel a huge connection or pull towards Kael. It’s not that he’s not written well, he does some of the most beautiful acts, but yeah, I just didn’t feel a pull towards him. I’m hoping that will come with the next book! Seren is just so beautiful and I can’t wait to see where her story goes! Ronyn is an absolute hoot! He reminds me of Kipp from Thezmarr! And Therion gets my cookie analogy! Hard on the exterior and soft on the inside 🤭
I adore that this is celestial themed book with constellations and gods. I really would love to learn more about the gods going forwards.
The ending does leave us with a lovely little cliffhanger. I got the trajectory of the book quite early on so had an idea how book one would end.
I am so impressed with this book and Brit’s writing and I cannot wait to see what happens going forward. Thank you so much for letting me read this as an arc 🥺
I’m obsessed. Like… actually obsessed. This is one of those rare books that has it all. Seamless worldbuilding, found family, real character growth, emotion, tension, everything. And the way the story unfolds?? Celestial bliss✨ The pacing, the tension, the payoff. I was fully immersed the entire time.
So many high stakes. Friendship turning into found family. Love. Betrayal. And somehow it all burns and glows at the same time. It’s magic 🔥
Elyssara, our FMC, is everything. Strong, resourceful, sharp when she needs to be, soft when it counts. She’s got this fierce spark in her that never dims. Like starlight wrapped in steel 🌌 I loved her instantly.
Kael. KAEL. Confident. Protective. A full-on fighter. But he’s also got that quiet, broken intensity that we all love. He’s intense, a little unhinged, completely loyal, mysterious, and somehow still soft when it comes to her. A total heartbreaker 💔
He says things like…And others that you should read and experience the first time for yourself!! Because it’s just 🥵
> “I will rewrite the Stars with my bare hands… You are mine, from now until the Stars claim me.” > > “Elyssara, I’ve been studying every dip and curve of your body for days.”
How am I supposed to be okay after that 😮💨 I am absolutely feral over this man.
And them together is just perfection in a bottle of star-speckled ecstasy ✨💫
The side characters are hilarious and caring and chaotic in the best way. Total found family vibes 🖤 And the character arcs?? Believable. Earned. Soooo satisfying.
That cliffhanger?? I’m unwell 😭 Serious book hangover. I need more immediately 📚
B.J. Wilde wrote this as her DEBUT and expected me to survive?? I want to study her brain under a microscope and then frame it like art.
And that doesn’t even begin to sum up this incredible debut by
From the very first page I was immersed into this vivid world and it didn’t let me go till it left me reeling with that ending.
The magic in this book was unique, the characters unforgettable and the plot was plotting!
The characters were broken, flawed and learned to embraced their jagged edges. The banter, humour and found family? Perfection! I could happily devour entire books on each of the side characters! Especially Ronyn and Therion!
“Besides, how hard can it be to save the world and take down a king? Sounds like a regular Tuesday.”
“Of course, because nothing bad ever happens in dark, hidden staircases.”
I am feral for our MMC Kael. He shot like a shooting star straight into my top book boyfriends and I was obsessed with every world out of his mouth.
Our FMC Elyssara is fierce, loyal and embraces everything that she is. Her journey held me captive and I felt everything she went through.
This story is filled with magic, action, romance, betrayals and I was happy to sacrifice sleep to stay in this world.
I’m already ready for a reread. But also I need book 2 in my hands immediately.
The Sky Called Her Home by B.J. Wilde ✨ Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3.5)
I have mixed feelings about this one. On the one hand, there is so much beauty and potential here and on the other hand, a few things didn’t fully work for me. Since this is a debut novel, there is definitely room to grow, and I’m excited to see where the author goes from here.
What I liked: The worldbuilding: rich, detailed, and full of magic and depth. You can tell the author put a lot of love into creating this universe. The writing style: very descriptive, poetic, and overall easy to sink into. The tropes: enemies-to-lovers, found family, lost heir, bound powers, fated mates: all the classic romantasy goodness. The ending: genuinely surprised me in a good way! The characters: we have a strong, sassy FMC, an arrogant shadow-wielding MMC, and a cast of likeable side characters that added warmth to the story.
Where it didn’t work as well for me: There was a lot happening. The amount of plot could have easily been spread across 2–3 books. Because so much unfolded in one volume, it sometimes felt overwhelming and hard to keep track of everything, especially regarding the FMC’s identity and power arc. The romance pacing felt too fast. Even though they’re fated mates, I personally prefer more slow-burn tension and development. Here, they came together very quickly, and because of that I didn’t fully feel the emotional connection. The MMC lies to the FMC multiple times, and she forgives him almost instantly each time, without consequences. This made their dynamic feel uneven to me. The FMC’s characterization felt inconsistent as the story progressed, and I found myself struggling to stay connected to her.
Overall: This book offers a magical world, beloved romantasy tropes, and a lot of heart. I think many readers will enjoy the atmosphere, the characters, and the emotional beats. For me, some of the storylines and relationships would have benefitted from more space and slower development, maybe even across multiple books, to give everything the depth it deserves. But as a debut? This is an impressive starting point, and I truly believe the author has a lot of potential to grow from here. I’ll be watching what she writes next. 🤍 3.5 stars from me.
If you’ve ever taken a book rec from me—let it be this one. From the bottom of my stardust-soaked heart: read this book. Please!!!✨ The Sky Called Her Home is BJ Wilde's debut novel and what a way to come out with a bang! It’s strange that bookstagram is not talking about it!

OMG I’M OBSESSED! This 5 star romantasy debut is STAR CROSSED PERFECTION!
ARC REVIEW I received an advance copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review:
This book gave me everything: rich, immersive worldbuilding, emotional depth, found family, slow burn tension, ancient magic, high stakes and a romance that broke me in the best way. I was hooked from the first chapter! And that ending?? RUDE!
Quick rundown: She’s hiding in the slums of a kingdom that hoards magic and rewrites history. He’s a warrior bound by prophecy to destroy what she’s destined to become. But fate? Never follows the rules. One prison break. One forbidden bond. Secrets unravel. Magic stirs. A forgotten past returns and she has to decide whether to stay hidden in the ashes… or rise and reclaim her power. Tell me that’s not ICONIC.
Elyssara is everything, brave, clever, guarded, and glowing. She’s starlight wrapped in steel and I loved her instantly. And Kael?? DARK. INTENSE, and completely soft for her. He’s got that protective, morally grey, “I’d burn the world down for you” energy. The chemistry?? Unreal. The tension?? Exquisite. That one quote that has everyone shattered and I now understand why: “You are mine, from now until the stars claim me.” (Omg please…I need a moment…shewwww!)
B.J. WILDE, you’ve created literal magic. This being your debut? Unreal, I want to live in this world forever!
If you love romantic fantasy with high stakes, deep emotion, star crossed lovers, and a heroine who finds her fire.. head over to Amazon, available today!
Let's talk about "The Sky Called Her Home" by B.J. Wilde.
With words, an author can capture millions. They can capture those that yearn to dive into worlds beyond their own comprehension. With words, B.J. Wilde allows us to slip into the crevices of her mind and revel in the world she has created with her debut novel.
"I move like darkness incarnate."
We are transposed to worlds away, to linger at the edge as we watch Elyssara fight for the very being of her life, the world knowingly cruel to her and taking everything she has ever loved. She's more than we can imagine - a prophecy held amongst the skies, almost lost to translation as those around are made to forget. She walks with trepidation, never knowing if her world will continue to shatter around her.
Elyssara is all we want in our female protagonist. She's fire, she's bright lights, big hearted, fierce beyond a doubt. Her life is nothing without those around her, protecting them without so much as a thought to her own well being. She takes on the world - jumping feet first and asking questions so much more later.
The skies wouldn't be what they are though without Kael - the dark, menacing, and yearning presence that aligns the stratosphere against Elyssara. He harbors secrets, wields shadows of dark desires, and keeps our light on our toes. He is an enigma in the eyes of our FMC - not fully transparent, but enough to keep her quivering.
"I will tear down every star in the fucking sky. I will defy them every day for the rest of my life it is means never hurting you."
Yet, what pulled me into this story - was the richness of the lore, the world building. The imaginative essence of a story that would keep me on the ledge. Each turn, corner, and climb, kept the pages turning, wanting to find out what happens next.
Thank you to B.J. Wilde for the advanced copy of your wonderful debut novel.
✨ He Falls First ✨ Fated Mates ✨ Found Family ✨ Epic World Building ✨ Fantastic Lore ✨ Unique Magical Powers ✨ Dual POV
This book snuck up and completely stole my soul. This is the most beautiful tale of star crossed lovers I have ever read. The lyrical prose builds the world and characters perfectly, the storytelling is impeccable and filled with ancient lore, truly unique magic, forgotten lands, and a prophecy that is both savior and destruction.
Elyssara is a force to behold. She believes herself to be worthless yet she stands boldly in the face of danger with a determination that will not be broken. She’s smart, and asks the right questions. She loves her chosen family with her whole being and there is no length she won’t go for them.
Kael. My man. Whew. He will tear the skies and earth apart for her. He holds secrets and he messes up, but there’s literally nothing he won’t do for her. Seriously, don’t even look at her for too long or you’ll lose your head. I love him and I love that his motives become impossibly complex.
I hold just as much love for the side characters as I do the main characters. They are a beautifully blended bunch with different personalities and strengths. I can’t wait to see where their stories go! The found family here is fantastic.
I am desperate for book 2 after that brutal ending!! I just need to hug my kindle for awhile.
This debut novel from B.J. Wilde is out of this world.
How could this be her FIRST fantasy novel. But it is, and I’m damn proud of her and grateful for the magic she’s created.
Immediately, you’re thrown into the action with a fierce FMC, Elyssara. Taking you through twists and turns that create a world and story you want to live in and never leave.
Then we have Kael, the MMC who you will add to your book boyfriend list from the first encounter. Dark, strong, protective, mature, and just down right 🤤🤤🤤🤤
The side characters I have to say are some of my favourites, Britt has written them so well and even in book 1, they have amazing journey’s alongside the mains.
The cliffhanger of this book though 😳🥺🤯😱😰 I have no words. I’m so mad at Britt but equally LOVE her for delivering on the emotional damage we all know and love.
In all honesty, if I could give this a 10 or even a 6/5 rating, I would.
Get this on your TBR or even override your current read as soon as it’s released (which I believe is today…).
You will want this book in your life to love and destroy you.
I can’t believe this is a debut — the writing and description are absolutely stunning. The way the author wove stars, the sky, and cosmic imagery into the story felt so magical and personal to me, bringing me back to my own childhood fascination with the night sky. It gave the whole book a sense of wonder that I adored.
The fantasy elements were fresh and unique, with so many interesting tropes and dynamics that kept me fully immersed. The pacing was fast without ever feeling rushed, and the constant twists and turns made it impossible to put down. I loved following all the different plots as they unfolded.
Every character stood out in their own way, and I can’t wait to spend more time with them in the next book. The romance was maybe a touch quicker than I usually like — I tend to love a slow burn — but it made sense for the story, and I still really enjoyed the chemistry, especially the spice and tender moments woven throughout.
Overall, this was just so good. Beautifully written, creative, and emotional — easily a new favorite, and I’m counting down the days until the sequel.
I enjoyed this overall; the plot was engaging, even if none of the twists were particularly surprising. Elyssara was likeable enough, and Kael too, though their relationship lacked much build-up or tension—they seemed to jump straight into loving each other without much development.
I struggled a bit with the side characters, as I didn’t feel I got enough from them to become truly invested. Ronyn, for example, is positioned as the smart-ass of the group, but he came across as a weaker imitation of similar male side characters from other books.
That said, I still enjoyed the story and have already started the next book.
Breathtaking. Addictive. Absolutely F* Stunning. . Those are just a couple of the ways I could describe the world that B J Wilde has created in this outstanding debut novel.
Strong & Feisty FMC. Dreamy Shadow MMC. A Chosen Family. Mystery Magic. Lost Civilisations. Evil King. A Prophecy. Betrayal.
I am a sucker for a good celestial theme, a soft spot for the zodiac & a wonder at just how much that can play a role in storytelling. Still, this is like nothing I have read before. The way BJ writes leaves no room for questions at exactly what her world, & her characters look like. Never before have I been able to picture scenes with such clarity, to the point that only after one night of reading, my actual dreams were full of this magical world.
There haven't been many books this year that have hooked me in quite as quickly as TSCHH. I fell into Averyn, the world this book is based around, within the first few chapters. Quick to action, meeting main characters, discovering snippets of backstory and just enough mystery to make me wonder whether there were clues left here in the pages that I would come to later understand. (Yes, the answer is Yes!)
My brain works 100 miles a minute, even when reading, and I am constantly trying to figure out what the plot will be, what is going to happen etc. Much to my delight (or devastation?), there were a few things that I just didn't see coming. Also a few theories about how the rest of the trilogy might plan out...only time will tell, & I am an impatient MF who just wants to know all the things NOW. **Luckily for us, BJ has mentioned books 2 & 3 will be out in fairly quick succession. Not like the 2-5-10 year waits of some of my other faves.
I knew before I even finished this book that I would be re-reading it again. It is pure magic weaved onto the pages. It will leave you satisfied, but also wanting more.
What a debut!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- Some of my favourite quotes. " Service is just another word for obedience, and honor is just a prettier word for sacrifice"
"The Stars are calling me home, and I'm answering. I am the Lightborne."
"I'll fight at your side and guard your back, Elyssara, like it's my own life on the line. You're mine to protect. - and I don't take that lightly." *Swoon!
"I am hungry for her, and I want to feast"
"I know this truth like a blade at my throat: she will cost me everything. And I'll bleed for her anyway."
I was really, REALLY excited that @bjwildewrites gave us the privilege of reading her amazing story earlier than expected. I binged this book from Saturday to Sunday and my mind is stuffed!!! The Sky Called Her Home did not disappoint! It's quite hard to believe this is a debut novel—blows my mind for real. The writing is SO well DONE! I hope you like this book as much as I did!!!!
I loved it and one of my fav things about this book besides the incredible storytelling is the pacing. It is paced so well and it has no lulls. From beginning to end, it was engaging and in several parts cortisol raising😅. In the first few chapters I felt like my heart was beating out of my chest!! 💗 And the more I read the more I loved.. The magic, the worldbuilding, the characters, and the romance were truly unforgettable and this is a story I have taken ahold of and will not let go.
Our FMC | Elyssara is such a strong character! I truly liked her from the jump and I'm picky about my FMC's, y'all. Sometimes it takes me awhile to warm up but not with this her. She’s strong, accepting of her fate, wary/slow to trust but also open, and has the most kickass found family🫰🏾🫰🏾
Our MMC | Kael is strong/LETHAL, protective/ possessive, but never overwhelming to our leading lady. He gives space to our FMC and accepts her in all her glory. She's pretty awesome, so duh. He got a filthy mouth too 😏
Together they're outstanding. The chemistry was 🔥♨️🥵 and I ate it up but ultimately the found family stole the show for me.
I loooove Ronyn—our comedic relief—soooo much. I knew I would, but ugh, he just steals my heart with his unwavering loyalty and steadfast friendship. His well-timed jokes bring levity to the harder moments and I had so many laugh out louds at his one liners. He’s such a green-flag bestie.😍
Baby sis Seren was about as sweet as can be. I adored her character, her brilliance and softness was so attractive that I found myself wanting more from her character and I'm 🙏🏽we get it in the next book! I'll leave with this: The cliffhanger in this book is rough. Won’t sugarcoat it—you will be clamoring for book two 😭😬
You know that magical feeling when you pick up a book on a rainy night, planning to just read a chapter or two… and then you devour the whole thing in one sitting? That was my experience with this book after winning it in a giveaway. From the very first page, I was hooked and couldn’t put it down.
The world-building is lush and immersive, the magic system is unique and compelling, and the characters leap right off the page with so much depth and nuance. Elyssara, the prophesied Lightborne, is such a strong protagonist—her journey from hiding in the slums of Virellin to embracing her destiny is gripping. Her found family (shoutout to Ronyn, Serene, and Revryn) brings so much heart to the story, each one fiercely loyal and unforgettable.
Things really heat up when Elyssara meets Kael, the exiled prince-turned-rebel leader with powerful shadow magic and his grumpy best friend, Therion. The chemistry between El and Kael is electric, and their witty banter is honestly a highlight for me. Together, they set out on a dangerous quest to recover ancient relics tied to the prophecy, and I loved every twist and turn along the way.
Kael’s motives are complicated (he needs the compass to save his sister), while El struggles to accept her role as Lightborne and the responsibilities that come with it. The plot is packed with secrets, betrayals, and shifting loyalties that kept me guessing. And the side characters? Ronyn’s humor is EVERYTHING, and his interactions with Daelen are a delight. Merrick and Jax add even more flavor to the cast (even if Jax is a bit prickly!).
Just when I thought I had things figured out, the betrayal I was dreading hit—and that ending? It’s a cliffhanger in the best (and worst!) way, and now I desperately need the sequel. If you love found families, slow-burn romance, magical prophecies, and relentless adventure, make sure to add this to your TBR. Highly recommend!
Say the words fated mates and you instantly have my attention but level up and add star-bound paired with a deeply woven hidden prophecy and kingdoms on the edge of collapse and a shadow daddy and I’m sat!
I love a story that is written in the stars and this book not only delivers but is stacked with everything I love in a romantasy. You embark on an intricately woven quest fuelled by a prophecy, stacked with adventure, high stakes, plot twists, magic and interesting creatures (hello duskprowlers!) banter and a beautiful found family. You find yourself so immersed that it makes, The Sky Called Her Home, unputdownable!
Our FMC Elyssara is no damsel, she is fiery and strong with a sharp tongue and gosh do I love her! With the weight of the kingdoms on her shoulders she literally keeps fighting and moving towards her destiny with a spirit that is truly unbreakable.
"Darlin’, I’ve always known you were something extraordinary. I just didn’t know the Stars would make it so…literal." -Revryn
Kael our MMC with his "symmetrical face" is going to be your new favourite shadow daddy. He is dangerous with Shadowweave magic, and is so alluring with a wicked mouth paired with a possessive nature "who does not like to share" that it’s impossible to not immediately add him to your top book boyfriends list!
"I was born in the shadows, darling, I’ve made a home in them, and they’ve welcomed me." -Kael
The chemistry between Kael and El is intoxicating and so beautifully executed that you’re going to be rooting for them and feeling protective of them too. "You chose me—over Stars, over fate, over your people." And p.s if you love the one horse trope this is another reason you’re going to love this book.
"It was always meant to be me and you, Duskae. I meant it when I said it the first time, you’re mine." -Kael
"Because despite myself, Kael is The Sky, and I know home is in his arms." -Elyssara
Okay but that ending? My heart! I cannot wait until book 2!
I can confirm I have officially unlocked a new favourite author and am obsessed with The Songs of Stars series!
This deeply moving and beautiful story is easily one of my favourites. B.J. Wilde breathes life into her characters and their world. The fantasy theme is rich and layered, full of celestial magic and awe inducing lore. I was hanging onto every detail, trying to anticipate what would happen next but still ended up being surprised!
The lush and meaningful love story between Elyssara and Kael makes this book such a delight. These spicy scenes are HOT. And yet, they're also incredibly beautiful. Their love is full of magic, passion, fire, and devotion.
All of the characters in this found family will find their way into your heart. They all have uniquely different personalities and coping mechanisms. Though the fantasy theme is so rich, there is something very human and real about the way these characters navigate life. These are people who have been painted with depth by a brilliant storyteller.
There is magic, legend, whimsy, and a layered and brilliant story. A story with meaning. A mystical and starlit tale about rebels doing what they can to overthrow an oppressive government. A luminous love story forged in the stars, surrounded by a world they wish to restore.
It ends on a pretty big cliffhanger so get yourself the sequel immediately! It's almost better than the first. I'm looking forward to rereading this story many more times.
Thank you B.J. Wilde for writing a story so easy to fall in love with.
Ummm, did you say debut novel?? No freaking way because what did I just read!!! The world-building made me go into the book and get surrounded by the words, I was in the book world. The characters, they are so complex and lovable and with page you get to know an exciting secret about someone. The ambience of the storyline is mysterious, high stakes and will keep you hooked. The writing is brilliant. The magic system, gosh so new and different, the constellation under which you were born decides your fate! I was hooked from the first page till the end, would be an understatement!
Our FMC (deliberately didn’t name because of spoilers) grew up in a slum with a found family as she lost her parents when she was young. She has magic, but the king doesn’t know because if he knew, she would be dead or captured for more sinister things. So she has kept it a secret until Kael, the perfect dark to her light, comes searching for her. He knows who she is and also knows about the prophecy. And then her world unravels as she begins the journey to not only claim her fate but also to find herself. But will this journey make her powerful or just destroy her?
Kael, Kael, Kael - NEW BOOK BF ALERT! He is the perfect, shouldn’t fall for him but already fell for him! If books like Spark of the Everflame or Fearless destroyed you, you’d be worse off after this ends. I’m still crying here and shocked and sad and angry and what not!
Thank you so much for this incredible and beautiful ARC @bjwildewrites please do me another favour and write the second book ASAP!!!!
What a beautiful journey this book is. Prepare to be whisked away to with lush world building and lyrical writing that will completely immerse you in this world - all while you grasp for answers just out of reach.
Things are never quite what they seem for our characters, and I feel we’ve just scratched the surface of the lore and hidden secrets to be uncovered with this leg of their journey. The layers of conflict are very complex but fit together seamlessly, ensuring the complexity is never overwhelming.
The found family here is amazing, and you can truly feel how strongly the relationships form between all of these characters. They all start to fall into their roles and I loved that it had me invested in more than just the main couple. Snarky banter and lots of lighthearted moments provide a nice balance with the heavier themes throughout, and give some much needed relief when things get emotional.
You may be feeling all warm and fuzzy by the end, but fair warning, this ending will have you ready to toss the book across the room. It’s painful, there’s no way around it, so have a pillow to scream into on hand.
“Our differences can’t stop love. It’s not about the sky you were born under, it’s about who you are in there"
Okayy @bjwildewrites this completely swept me away. The world-building is chaotic in the best way. This felt fast-paced, relentless, and so immersive that I felt like I was right there in the middle of it all. There’s never a dull moment, and yet it never feels overwhelming, totally addicted and gave me actual goosebumps with the writing!!
Elyssara is such a standout and absolutely fierce. Watching her navigate this unpredictable world had me hanging onto every word. And Kael… the chemistry between them is unreal. The banter, the tension, the softer moments that sneak up on you, every interaction between them!!! absolute energy.
What really stole my heart, though, was the found family within the crazy momensmts. The way unlikely bonds form and strengthen, the loyalty and sacrifice, it gave the story so much heart and made the stakes hit that much harder.
I loved the side characters so much all of them held their own in the story without taking over and so much character growth from everyone!
This book has everything!! magic, danger, laughter, heartbreak, romance, and that sense of belonging.... unforgettable.
'This darkness, this violence—it terrifies me, but gods, it draws me to him like a moth to a flame'
Hands down, this is the best book I’ve read in years (and I’ve read a lot).
After a while romantasy can sometimes start to feel a little repetitive and predictable—but this story was a big ol’ breath of fresh air. Unique, exciting, and endlessly engaging, it hooked me from the very first chapter. The writing is lush, sophisticated, and full of artistry, yet still effortlessly readable.
The relationships? Real, believable, and layered with banter, tenderness, and heat that had me smiling, swooning, and blushing in equal measure. World-building? So vivid, vibrant, and immersive, I couldn’t help but be pulled into the vortex.
It has everything: beloved tropes, political intrigue, found family, themes of fate versus free will, beautiful character development, and both an unforgettable MMC and FMC. The spice felt real, wholesome, and believable but still in a (**insert love heart eyes emoji) way. Honestly, this book has it all.
I laughed, cried, squealed, held my breath, and even got wildly frustrated (in the best way). I stayed up late flipping pages, completely absorbed. And now, weeks later, I still can’t stop thinking about it. Obsessed would be an understatement.
Just released in August 2025—and it deserves every ounce of hype.
We’re launched straight into the action—no hand-holding, no gentle glide. Just a prophecy, a prison break, unique magic systems, and a rebellion colliding from the jump. The pacing walks that sweet line between breathless tension and quiet devastation—never dragging, never rushing. I was hooked. Emotionally compromised. A little unwell.
Elyssara—my girl. She is fire and fragility, softness and grit. She bears the weight of entire realms and somehow never stops. Her vulnerability is written so well in her mistrust but her strength is absolutely lethal.
And Kael. Wields shadows. Morally grey. Dark hair. Cocky smirk. Protective to the point of feral. He is chaos and gravity and violence and devotion all tangled together, and I fell—hard. He has that “I would raze empires for you” energy, and I melted.
Their chemistry was the kind that feels doomed and destined all at once.
The world-building is rich and immersive—Dravara feels alive. The constellation-based magic system is so clever. So unique. I adored the found family moments, the side characters that feel like home (Ronyn, Seren, & Teddy 😭 your honor I love them) with roguish comic relief who absolutely stole my heart.
We’ve got kingdoms rewriting history, realms at war, and a prophecy that could change or destroy it all. It’s lush and intense.
My ONLY concessions is that some of the language doesn’t fit the world. It’s just… too modern. The tone breaks. The immersion snaps. The cadence stumbles and it pulled me out of the moment.
Still—this debut is magic. Emotionally charged. Bold. Romantic. A stunning start to a series I need more of IMMEDIATELY.
