Kostis Palamas (Greek: Κωστής Παλαμάς) was a Greek poet who wrote the words to the Olympic Hymn. Difficult to read, because it was written around 1900, and the language is older.
But it is well-glossed in 3 languages and there are notes for some particular words and phrases.
It is interesting to read about life in earlier times. (But I'm looking forward to reading something more modern now!)
About how a happy young man in a fishing villages injures his leg and dies (that's all in the title, so it's not a spoiler.) As well as all the attempts made to heal him with scientific, but not modern, medicine as well as various forms of quackery.
Plus all the village Easter and death customs. That the accident and his death are on Good Friday are intentional symbolism.

The symbolism of Easter isn't lost on me, but I still didn't enjoy this much due to the repetitive sequences. Consult a doctor or quack, try weird remedies, get fleeced, try again. I find that kind of repetitive structure frustrating. The story is incredibly sad, but that's not a mark against it for me. It also makes me even more thankful for modern medicine, where penicillin and other antibiotics would have cured him in a week.

It was probably chosen as a candidate for this easy reader series because it's in the public domain, and even though it was adapted for learners, there's still a great deal of unfamiliar - and not particularly common - vocabulary. I would rather be learning more useful vocab, at least until I master the basics.
