tl;dr Not a bad book if you take it slow and really let the exercises & quotes resonate with you. Take your time, definitely try to journal with it, and it can be pretty useful. :) It may not have everything you need, but it could be worth exploring.
Not tl;dr:
To start off, I will say: this book is what you'd expect from the genre. Short little exercises in various situations, that do dumb down to the basics of mindfulness (be aware of yourself & surroundings, breathe, continue your day), so don't go in expecting this to blow you away.
THAT SAID, if you don't read this book all at once, I think it's really good actually. I read this over the course of several months, reading a page or two almost every day, and I think that made a big difference in my opinion of this book. The content is repetitive, which can make you feel a bit cheated on buying this book just to read the same paragraph over and over, BUT, because of that repetition, if you read it over a long period of time, the points start to hammer themselves in, and it starts to take effect. I did notice myself pausing more often, thinking more often, and in general having the words from this book echo in my head.
The exercises and ideas were explained succinctly and were kept simple and approachable enough that you could easily do them in the moment or could imagine yourself doing them when you needed. Though the core idea was the same for all the situations, I still appreciated the variety of situations, just to really show you can be mindful no matter where you are, what's happening around you, etc.
I liked the illustrations that broke up the text in between the pages. Felt like it gave you a chance to pause and contemplate what you just read. I also really liked the quotes, many seemed quite thoughtful, and given the variety, I'm sure at least a few resonated with most readers. (I know I wrote a few down and sent pics to a few friends of some.) There was also plenty of space to write out your thoughts in the book, both in the space around the text, and also on the pages that were clearly intended for note taking.
I do wish there was a little more /something/ in this book, but it's hard to say what exactly. But for what it is, it's not a bad book and I appreciate the idea of it. (If you're looking for something as a cute gift or coffee table book, this isn't a bad choice, honestly. I got mine from Five Below for 5$, so super cheap!)
I think my biggest gripe with it is the lack of page numbers. I have no idea why they never included them, but be /mindful/ not to lose your bookmark, else you'll have a hard time finding where you left off. ;) (I will note, when I complained to my partner about this issue, he had a hoot of a time telling me to breathe, relax my shoulders, be aware the book did this with purpose, there are lessons to learn here--little butt, haha.)
