Book One of THE WINGED PEOPLE — A slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers romantasy debut filled with winged warriors, secret magic, and irresistible tension.
Perfect for fans of ACOTAR and The Cruel Prince, this stunning romantasy weaves slow-burn passion, political betrayal, and high-stakes magic into a vividly imagined world.
Discover the realm of the Winged People, where Sephora “Sophie” Errondale has always felt out of place among the fierce eagle-winged warriors, especially because of her blood-bound magic. Until the night the dragon-winged attack her colony and shatter her world. Wrestling with exile to a hostile faction and abduction, Sephora must stand alone against the coming storm or gamble her life on a dangerous alliance with her enemy to save the remnants of her kind. In a city ravaged by occupation, curses and betrayal, Sephora has to fight to overcome distrust or risk losing everything to an irresistible attraction.
And when her heart overcomes mistrust, will it save the Winged People...or doom them?
I got this book as an ARC. Honestly it’s the first ARC I’ve had in a while. And it very successfully reminded me why I used to love ARCs so much.
I absolutely loved this book. I don’t know what I was expecting or how much I would like it when I first requested this book, but I am so glad that I did.
First off, I really liked how the fmc was also some sort of non-human magical creature. I’ve read so many romantasy books where the fmc is a 20 year old human and the mmc is like 500 years old (no hate on these books btw I love them too) that I totally forgot how good it can be when they are both fantasy beings.
This book had everything. The plot. The characters. The chemistry. It was so good.
I absolutely loved the chemistry between the two main characters and cannot wait to see more of that. I also wish that we had more action between the two main characters, but I’m sure we will get to that in the next books. Speaking of which I CANNOT wait for the next book. Which is pretty bad considering that this book isn’t even out to the public yet.
I totally recommend this book as it is one of very few of my favorite books this year!!
Thank you Laura H. Tarshis for giving me a chance to enter your amazing world of winged beings!!
✨ARC review✨ Winged people Rivals to lovers Politics Fallen kingdom Shifters 🌶️.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ First off a big thank you to Laura H. Tarshis for the opportunity to read your book before release! It was a pleasure!
The story follows our FMC Sophie who is a healer and granddaughter of the matriarch of the fairy-winged people. When tragedy strikes and Sophie is thrusted into the position of Eldest Fairy-winged, she finds that the life she thought she knew of her grandmother is false. Grandma was full of secrets. Now, Sophie is left with a mess her grandmother left in her wake as she fights the Sidhe to save her people for complete eradication.
When I tell you my jaw hit the floor when the twist hit!! For real, there weren’t a lot of hinted factors, so when it hit?!? I was shocked to say the least.
I love the ‘who is she going to go for’ aspect we see in the book. At first we think for certain our girl is going to go for one guy, but then of course here comes sir Broody. Personally #TeamDraven all the way 🤷🏻♀️🤣
The world building is placed throughout the book, not all up front which does leave space for guessing at points. But overall I feel it was dispersed in a tasteful way.
I would call this more of a rivals to lovers instead of enemies. Our FMC didn’t hate him nearly as long or as much as I would like them to for me to call this enemies to lovers. We do get a slower burn between our 2 main characters but not a very long slow burn. They definitely were attracted to each other very quickly.
I really enjoyed this book and would recommend! Very excited for book 2!
This book has really interesting characters, a good plot, great worldbuilding, and lots of spicy content that isn't too overpowering to the main storyline. I appreciated the fact that the love triangle aspect (I don't think that is a spoiler) is settled within the first book. I saw the big reveal coming and was happy that it was done in this book and not drawn out. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and will definitely be interesting in continuing the series. My biggest criticism is not in the story but that there a lot of typos and grammatical errors throughout, some of which made me stumble a bit to figure out what was meant to be said. I hope my copy is not the final edit.
I received a free ARC of this book through Book Sirens, and this is my honest review.
UPDATE: I did a re-read of this to makes notes of needed edits for the author and realized just how much I enjoyed the story. Had to bump it up half a star (rounding up), knowing that the edits are underway. I am really excited to see what else this new author comes out with!
UPDATED UPDATE: I was gifted a copy of the book for my editing and re-read it again with all the edits in place. I missed a typo and it bugs me but otherwise, it reads very well now and I am so happy that I could contribute to it's promotion.
First of all, I just want to say thank you to Booksprout and the author for this amazing opportunity to read this arc!
Soooo, I'm speechless. I wasn't expecting to devour this romantasy at all. What an incredible book! From the story to the characters. The writing is impeccable, the dialogue is incredibly well-constructed.
I admit that the idea of a love triangle made me a little hesitant, but that feeling quickly passed as the story progressed.
This is the first book in The Winged People series, and here you'll find Shophie with her heart torn between certainty and uncertainty. Adrien seems like the ideal guy for her, but as soon as Draven shows up... her heart has made its choice.
Here you'll find enemies to lovers in a slow burn full of tension, and you'll find yourself glued to the book.
I just regret not getting into Draven's head because his POV should be WOW because that man is fiiiine!
I can't say enough about how much I want to read the next one!
Sephora “Sophie” Errondale and her people are kidnaped by dragon-winged . Brought because of her magic, tortured and used as a blood bag, she must form an alliance with the leader of dragon winged Draven, who's also there against his will. Add complicated feelings with her crush from home Aiden, and growing attraction to Draven, she will question who's really a enemy and who is a friend.
Will she save her people? What is Draven hiding?
This romantasy was fast and interesting read, the description of magic original and unique. I just didn't like this whole love triangle.Sophie have sex with one, but then almost right after she's not sure if she love him, and tell him that she don't want to hurt him, but she don't feel the same,so what was the point ? Ugh. Still it was good debiut fantasy, with some twists.
Thank you author for arc,my review is honest and my own.

So this was definitely a fun read! I recieved this book as an ARC and had put off reading it due to wanting to finish some other books. But once I started reading this I could not put it down (and went ahead and bought the book - support indie authors!).
The book is blurbed as being for fans of ACOTAR and the Cruel Prince. I for one loved ACOTAR and have mixed feelings about the Cruel Prince (not the author's fault - I for some stupid reason it was romantasy than fantasy, hence why I was a bit disapointed, anyhoo I digress). I would actually say a more fitting comparison - in terms of political intrigue & romance - would be Plated Prisoner (one of the MMCs here very much reminds me of PP's MMC), The Wolf King and the Fate & Flame series. It is definitely a lot more adult than the Folk of the Air series!
What I definitely liked about this book that while it at its core is a lot like other romantasises currently out there, the world was unique enough that it didn't feel like you were reading the same romantasy story again. It was a bit predictable at times - but sometimes that is a good thing because knowing something the characters don't know can make the lead up all the more exciting.
My only real criticisms are that sometimes the dialog felt a bit unnatural - ie characters responding to each other verbally that didn't always make 100% sense to me. Also I was a bit confused as to the sense abilities of the different winged species - at the beginning, it is said that the eagle-winged had great hearing, but you don't see much of that later. Sometimes a character will hear something, and then later they don't hear something similiar. Also there is a scene where a character smells something in the air, and it got me wondering if this was limited to one species or several. Minor/random aspects, but its just something I noticed and I couldn't unnotice it. Oh and That also confused me, because how would she know the name if she didn't know that much about them?
Anyhoo, I really enjoyed this book and will (not so) patiently be waiting for book 2!
Of Wings So Blue The Winged People Laura H. Tarshis
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶
🔥Sexy wings and cinematic action 🎥 🦋A relatable, imperfect FMC 🧚♀️ 🔥Enemies to allies to ❤😉 🦋A spicy love triangle 🌶 🔥A cursed dragon and blood-bound magic 🐉 🦋Original World-building 🍀🌍
Okay I didn't think this book was going to hit like it did but once I got to where Draven came into it 😍🔥 let's just say things really started to heat up!
Of Wings So Blue follows the intricately told story of Sophie (or Sephora as is her proper name as was her grandmothers before her) a fairy person who is a natural born healer following in the footsteps of her grandmother when her people are f0rced out of their little township amongst the trees when its att@cked. She and her people end up on a journey which then leads to them being taken by the dragon and bat people where they are thrown into dungeons. Well other than Sophie because Sophie is special. They believe Sophie holds the secrets her grandmother kept. Now all of the above I struggled to get through thinking that was how the whole book was going to be (maybe 30%?) But i was so very wrong! You see when the fairy people are captured in strides Draven 🥵 the bad boy Commander who secretly has a good heart and he is my newest Obsession, Adrian my boy you sweet soul, I'm sorry but your chance was lost in my mind as soon as Draven showed up. Think tall, dark and handsome Winged God 🔥🔥🥵 Hot dang. Watching Sophie grow into her fierce self for her people, the steamy tension, the adventure aspect all come together was an amazing journey 😍
Will Sophie manage to save her people, and how will this twisty love triangle turn out? 😍🔥
The main characters were fantastic! I loved how the fmc was able to stand up for herself and others while also still able to be vulnerable and show her fear. I really enjoyed seeing her change throughout the book and become self aware with her actions and feelings.
The chemistry between Draven and Sophie was great, and their ability to bounce off each other and argue is the sign of great things to come 🤣 the dark and broody is 100% my type and Draven fits in completely.
The twists and turns, especially with the mmc, were slightly hinted at throughout the book but were done in a way that still allowed me to feel shocked and invested when they happened.
The world building was written throughout the chapters and not given in big clumps which made the book so much easier to read than some others! It was well paced and very time we got a bit more information it helped build ideas and guesses into what would happen next.
Loved this book so much, can’t wait for the next one!!
‼️ Thank you to the author for allowing me to read it early, I am voluntarily leaving an honest review
Wings So Blue sweeps you into a sky of danger and wonder, where winged people and fire-breathing dragons clash in breathtaking battles. Suspense, rich world-building, and heart-driven characters keep the pages turning—perfect for anyone craving fast-paced fantasy adventure.
The world-building is vivid: cliffside cities glitter under a sapphire sky, while ancient dragon roosts echo with history and danger. Every scene feels alive and the plot twists so good.
Suspense hums throughout the narrative. Political intrigue within the winged clans keeps tensions high, and every chapter seems to end on a note that makes you turn “just one more page.” Action sequences are written with such clarity.
Character growth is another strength. Secondary characters, from allies to rivals, are layered enough to keep you guessing who might stand beside—or against—the hero when the skies darken.
If you crave a fantasy that blends danger, discovery, and heart-pounding flight, Wings So Blue delivers. It’s a story that will keep you perched on the edge of your seat until the final wingbeat.
Oh my goodness where to start. The world and people building took me a hot minute but once I got it I got it and then I just could not think about anything else! The love triangle was chefs kiss 😘
The characters were well developed and it didn’t feel like anything was rushed.
The magic was unique along with the different peoples and their strengths/ weaknesses.
I loathed the general so much and that takes some amazing writing to evoke those feelings !
I usually only read completed series so now to wait for the next eek!
Thank you Laura, so much!
(Also showed the cover to my book friends and we all agree the art/ title are so pretty and on point!)
I was hooked from the cover and description and so glad I was able to get into this fantasy novel. The overall concept was what I was looking for and enjoyed the feel of this world. The characters were so well written and worked together with the plot to tell the story. It was a great start to the Winged People series and how it was used in this universe. Laura H. Tarshis has a strong writing style and was glad I read this.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I received this book as an ARC, and it completely reminded me why I love early reads! I didn’t expect to enjoy it this much, but it surprised me in the best way. The heroine being a magical creature herself was such a refreshing twist—it made the story even more exciting.
The plot, the characters, and especially the chemistry between the leads were all fantastic. I only wish there had been a bit more interaction between them, but I’m sure that’s coming in the next book.
I am so glad to have received an ARC of this book! This was such a fun read, and I am just trying to figure out how I’m supposed to wait until the second book comes out. I loved the tension between the main characters, and I loved the world this was set in.
3.5⭐️ Of Wings So Blue is a good story, but I feel it had the potential to be more. I enjoyed learning about Sephora, her grandmother, and the different types of winged people. Both Adrian and Draven were good MMCs ( I mean one is a dragon shifter!). However, I did have some issues with the book. First, there were some grammatical errors that took away from the story. Second, world building and pacing issues. There were scenes talking about all the plans made, but we, the readers, didn't get to know any of it. I didn't completely understand the curse that the Dragon Wings were under, and I wanted more information on the Purge. If Sephora were to be her grandmother's heir, why didn't she teach her how to make spells? All that aside, I did enjoy the story and look forward to book 2. Thank you for choosing me to be an ARC Reader
This was my first ever ARC and for that I am very grateful! (I received a copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.)
I really enjoyed the story, world building and the characters in total. I had a good time reading this and it was unlike any fantasy book I’ve gotten to read so far.
Only downsides were: A lot of word repetitions. Normally I don’t care all too much but I noticed it multiple times and so I just wanted to point it out. It also had some grammatical issues here and there but nothing that bothered my reading experience. And last but not least, one of the plots was not at all surprising. I guessed it really early on and it was just a relief to know I’m right, no real ‘OMG’ moment. I still enjoyed it but I saw through it really early, so it lost some need of guessing and wanting to find out.
Overall a very nice book that I could definitely see myself reading the second part of. 🙂↕️
This was my first ARC! I really enjoyed this book from start to finish. I really liked hearing her thought processes through intense scenarios. The world building wasn't overwhelming at all and the chemistry between love interests was great! I could guess the plot but it was still very much a page turner and enjoyable to read! I can't wait for the second book!
3.75⭐️ A good read! The action was amazing and it really pulls you in, it took me a while as I had a break from reading half way through but the story is easy enough to follow even with the break when I wasn’t reading it which is was really good. I would definitely recommend and can’t wait to see if Sophie finally forgives Draven

Winged people? Magic? Romance? Bad guys? Plot? This book has it all. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I definitely loved the read. I can’t wait for book two. There is an impending sense of doom, but hope throughout the book.
Fae wings, bloodbound magic, and a dragon prince with serious enemies-to-lovers energy? Yes please. Sophie’s journey is messy, emotional, and full of drama, and I was so here for it. Bring on book two.
- A female lead forced to explore and unleash her power - A morally gray (but obviously hot) dark warrior - Forbidden romance - An intriguing magical race of winged people - A quest to overcome evil when good and bad aren’t always clear
That said, the editing was so rough and many of the word choices so awkward that I was often pulled completely out of the story—to the point that I sometimes wondered if parts of the draft hadn’t been AI-generated.
For example: - “Nervosity coils in my stomach.” - “Closets and other pieces of big furniture encode it, creating a private nook.” - The fact that "belly," of all words, appeared more than forty times
World-building and character development were almost nonexistent. Beyond a few mentions of sequoia trees and sleeping in caves, I couldn’t picture their world outside the city. I wondered about Sephora’s age and what she looked like. Late in the book we learn she has copper hair and is voluptuous, though Adrian’s “chocolate brown eyes” were mentioned nearly twenty times.
Events that could have added depth were skipped. At one point, Sephora reflects, “All our planning, all the sneaking around, the preparations—it’s all led to this moment,” but readers never actually see any of that. Did this scheme take days? Weeks? It only seemed like one brief conversation to me.
Perhaps the main problem was that the heroine was insufferable. We’re meant to believe she has great power, yet she faints after basic spells then scoffs when people question her ability to handle more complex efforts. She sulks through the first half of the book, then spends the second half in a perpetual state of myopic petulance. The love triangle gave me whiplash, and I couldn’t understand what either love interest saw in her because there was no relationship building.
I hate leaving negative reviews, but this one just wasn’t for me. There’s potential in the concept, and I hope later edits have cleaned up the typos and filled in the plot holes.
Thanks to BookSirens. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
If you’re a fan of ACOTAR, you would love to read this book. It is long, yes. But it is addicting. The world building was great, it wasn’t all in your face at once and was spread throughout.
The characters were great, and I loved them. The plot was fantastic, and so was the chemistry. Also I’d love to add that the cover for the book is so beautiful, and that is what had drawn me into picking this to read as an ARC!
The FMC Sephora or “Sophie” Errondale, is a healer who follows in the footsteps of her grandmother. She is a fairy winged being, which only few have survived of her kind. When her grandmother is killed, she is then forced to take over and to watch over her people. Sophie is such a sweet character. She is strong, and so special. But she feels out of place, alone, isolated. I loved her character development and growth throughout the story.
She and her people end up taking a journey when their little town is destroyed and taken away by the dragon.
Her journey takes her into new out of comfort boundaries of her people, as in leaving their home, and being captured.
Then we have Draven. Which there’s a feel to this of who she will go for type of thing between Draven— a dragon winged man who is obviously an enemy, then you have Adrian, and eagle winged man whom is in alliance with Sophie and her people. She’s had a major crush on Adrian for a while, but when she meet Draven the dragon winged God that he is.. the chemistry, the pull, and the steamy tension. Obsessed.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I absolutely LOVED this book! To me, this was an original fantasy world. Sure, it has dragon(s)- and fairy-eagle-bat-whatever winged people, but the way it’s all coming together is incredible. It started off pretty quick with romance, making me wonder if that was really what we’d be getting, but the twists and turns in this book made it impossible to put it down.. the friends to lovers and.. enemies to lovers, also the different allies, how some tiny details really come back later in the story. So many questions but also so many answers, yet I still want more.
There’s longing, fire, tension, anger, a GOOD story that made me want to know what would happen next, not just the spicy parts. It wasn’t very spicy but the scenes that we did get I was laserfocused on, it’s safe to say we need more of this in book 2😏 And some of the characters turn out to be hilarious too, or indeed unhinged. Also the world-building is already so detailed, I can’t wait to see where Laura goes with the story. The options are endless!
This is a book that could easily get you out of that reading slump 📖
I cannot wait for book 2! Sadly, this will only be published as a paperback for now but if Fairyloot ever picks it up I want it 😩💙
(And yes, there were some spelling mistakes and weird sentences, but it does not bother me at all!)
Thank you to the author Laura H . Tarshis And @booksprout for sending me a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
-All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Of Wings So Blue sweeps readers into the mesmerizing realm of the Winged People, where the fierce eagle-winged warriors dominate the skies—and where Sephora “Sophie” Errondale feels dreadfully out of place. As one of the few surviving fairy-wings, Sophie carries the weight of her grandmother’s legacy like a chain—her magic rare and blood-bound, setting her apart and keeping her isolated. But when tragedy shatters her world, Sophie’s journey takes her far beyond the boundaries of her people—into exile, capture, and an impossible alliance.
Thrust into the clutches of Draven Ashthorn, the dragon-winged prince, Sophie must navigate survival in a hostile land while confronting the responsibilities of her unique magic. Draven, at once captor and catalyst, ignites a complex tension that pulses through the conflict—forcing them into reluctant cooperation against the horrifying Sidhe, beings who feed on the Winged People’s blood and threaten to extinguish everything Sophie holds dear
Tarshis’s world-building is richly imaginative and immersive. The intricate distinctions between the Winged People—the eagle-wings, fairy-wings, and beyond—feel freshly conceived. The fae-infused lore is both enchanting and perilous, weaving an epic backdrop for Sophie’s inner metamorphosis. The tension between Sophie and Draven carries an alluring slow-burn quality: it’s fierce yet hesitant, an emotional ember that promises fiery conflict—and perhaps desire—later on.
Sophie's arc is compelling: from alienated survivor to a reluctant leader embracing her power. The novel balances external threats with internal growth beautifully. Sophie’s courage, resilience, and evolving identity anchor the narrative in heart and purpose. Her reluctant bond with Draven underscores the genre’s classic enemies-to-lovers motif, but Tarshis infuses it with nuance—mistrust tempered by necessity, and respect that edges steadily toward something more.
That said, Of Wings So Blue excels in crafting an emotionally resonant, fantastical journey—a debut romantasy rich with magic, moral complexity, and soaring romance. Sophie’s transformation and the tension-laced dynamic with Draven promise a compelling start to what could be a remarkable series.
Final Thoughts
Of Wings So Blue enchants with its lush fantasy world and delivers a heroine whose path to self-discovery feels earned and urgent. Tarshis expertly blends fae lore with high-stakes conflict and a simmering romantic tension that elevates the narrative. It's an immersive and emotionally layered read—perfect for fans of romantasy looking for fresh wings to carry them into danger and desire.
🗡️ Enemies to Lovers Sophie and Draven begin on opposite sides—he’s her captor, she’s the hunted outcast—but their forced alliance gradually evolves into reluctant respect… and more.
💔 Forbidden Romance Their bond is dangerous and socially unacceptable—fairy-wing and dragon-wing? Not exactly celebrated. That tension adds delicious drama.
👑 Hidden Royal/Powerful Heritage Sophie is one of the last fairy-wings and inherits rare, powerful blood-magic—something even she doesn’t fully understand at first.
🔥 Forced Proximity Sophie is captured and held close by Draven, forcing them into shared space, shared missions, and shared secrets.
⚔️ War-Torn World / Political Intrigue The realm is divided, the Sidhe are a shared threat, and the alliances between different winged factions are fragile at best.
🌌 Fae & Magical Lore Blood magic, winged tribes, and dark fae creatures (the Sidhe) fill this world with classic and original fantasy elements.
💫 Coming into Power Sophie’s journey is as much about unlocking her magic and identity as it is about surviving external threats.
I received an ARC of *Of Wings So Blue*, and honestly, this book surprised me in all the best ways. It feels like a beautiful blend of Fourth Wing, ACOTAR, and Zodiac Academy, yet it still manages to carve out its own identity with vivid world-building, complex emotions, and a FMC I genuinely rooted for: She’s not the overly perfect, invincible kind of fantasy heroine — she’s messy, vulnerable, and deeply human. From the very first chapter, you feel her grief, her uncertainty, and her desperate desire to live up to a legacy she never asked for. What I loved most is how her strength grows naturally out of her choices, her mistakes, and her compassion. She’s the kind of FMC you believe in because she EARNS every ounce of her power.
The concept of winged races — eagle-wings, fairy-wings, dragon-wings, and more — is such a fun, cinematic idea, and Tarshis leans into it beautifully. Each faction feels distinct, with its own politics, prejudices, and histories. The blood-bound magic and the mysterious curse on the dragon-wings add real depth and danger to the story. I occasionally wished for just a touch more clarity about the broader world and magic mechanics, but the foundation is solid and original enough to carry a full series.
There’s a delicious slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers tension that romantasy fans live for — full of danger, mistrust, and growing attraction. Their dynamic reminded me a bit of Feyre and Rhysand, or Violet and Xaden, but with its own darker, moodier edge.
There’s also a hint of a love triangle here, which adds another layer of emotional complexity. I did find myself wishing for a few more moments of quiet vulnerability to deepen the emotional connection, but the romantic tension is magnetic and well-paced.
The story wastes no time throwing the FMC into chaos — and once things take off, they REALLY take off. The pacing is brisk and exciting, though there are a few transitions that could use a bit more breathing room. At times I wanted the narrative to slow down just enough to let the world and emotional beats settle in before moving to the next big event.
That said, the story’s momentum kept me hooked from start to finish. The twists, the betrayals, and the gradual uncovering of ancient magic all come together to build an engaging, high-stakes narrative that feels tailor-made for readers who love epic fantasy with heart.
So… If you love:
- the winged warfare and high-stakes romance of Fourth Wing, - the court intrigue and fae intensity of ACOTAR - the academy politics and magical tension of Zodiac Academy,
…then *Of Wings So Blue* will absolutely hit your sweet spot.
Laura H. Tarshis has created a story that feels both familiar and new — and I’m already desperate for book two.
The premise of this book drew me instantly into it, I do love faeries and I was very curious on how all these different types of faeries were going to interact and how the world build was going to delve. Besides, an epic enemies-to-lovers fantasy is right up my alley! There was definitely moments that I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough for I was so curious to know more about this world but there were also moments where that flow would suddenly break. Of Wings so Blue has a good story base and a strong concept but I felt that it had the potential for so much more.
I take pride in providing truthful reviews and I understand not every book is for everyone and that’s what makes the reading experience so much more fulfilling because we are all different and a book does not hit two people the same! Sometimes, I can fixate on a single detail or a certain scene might completely change how i end up liking the book or not and I feel that mainly, the pacing in Of Wings so Blue really throw me off: it’s very slow and then it’s very fast and I felt that it wasn’t consistent which made it personally harder for me to focus on the book and its plot.
The romance also left me wanting more. I do have a pet peeve with superficial romance and spicy scenes in random moments so I felt that it felt short to me. Maybe if it was more of a slow burn instead of jumping into it, the chemistry might have naturally developed between the characters, instead the FMC doesn’t know what she wants and make quite questionable choices that I couldn’t connect to at all.
I still think Of Wings so Blue has a lot of potential for the plot concept is strong! I hope the author will give more focus to developing a between chemistry between the romantic partners and maybe find some consistency with the pacing to bring this story to it’s full potential in the next books of the series! Many thanks to Laura for sending me this book and I am definitely interested in seeing how she grows as an author in the future!
This book was a bit of a rollercoaster for me — in both good and frustrating ways. There were moments when I almost put it down, but something about the mystery surrounding Sophie’s grandmother and the secrets of her lineage kept pulling me back. The story has a strong fantasy core, with fairies, dragons, and hidden magic all woven into a world that feels alive and full of potential.
Sophie herself is a compelling lead — determined, emotional, and torn between two very different love interests. The dynamic between her, Adrian (the safe choice), and Draven (the dangerous, unpredictable one) kept me hooked. I loved the morally gray tones and the push-and-pull of forbidden attraction versus loyalty. The tension in that love triangle is definitely one of the book’s strengths.
That said, there were also parts that felt uneven. The pacing sometimes jumped too quickly between scenes, and there were places where I wished for more depth — both in the world-building and in the relationships. Some moments felt rushed, while others dragged a little. There were also a few confusing time jumps and transitions that made me wonder if I’d missed something.
Despite that, the writing has heart, and there’s a lot to love in the premise. It’s got all the ingredients of a strong romantasy: a brave heroine discovering her power, danger, mystery, and just enough spice to keep things interesting.
If you enjoy slow-burn fantasy romances with love triangles, moral complexity, and magical secrets, this is worth a read. It’s not perfect, but it’s engaging, fun, and full of promise — and I’m curious to see how Sophie’s story continues in book two.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
2.5 ⭐️ I was really excited to read this book and it sounded very interesting to me from the synopsis. The story was fast paced and kept my attention, for the most part. However, I feel the writing leaves a lot to be desired - several chapters, especially at the beginning, ended on the FMC losing consciousness with the next chapter having no indication on her waking up or any repercussions from it, things just continued on. The gaps in time weren’t explained at all and it was confusing to read, it felt like I was missing pages. This did get better towards the middle of the book.
Additionally, grammar, punctuation and sentence structure were horrendous - one of the worst books I’ve read in that regard for a long time. There were several of these issues per chapter. It gives the appearance that this hasn’t been proofread at all. Oftentimes I’d have to reread sentences to find that there was an extra word in there that made it not make sense. In most of these cases, I could figure out what the author meant, but other times it wasn’t as clear. Despite the plot being interesting, these issues, especially with how abundant they were, killed the immersion for me and left me annoyed. Because of these issues I can’t give a higher rating despite enjoying the story - it doesn’t seem like a final draft that you give to people to read. If these types of things don’t bother you, then I’d say it’s worth reading.

Of Wings So Blue was my very first ARC read, and I was really excited to dive in. The premise instantly drew me in — an epic enemies-to-lovers fantasy romance with hints of spice sounded like exactly the kind of story I love. And at its core, I did enjoy the main storyline and the concept behind it. There were moments that caught my attention and made me curious to see where things would go.
That said, I struggled a bit with the execution. The romance, which was supposed to be the heart of the book, didn’t fully land for me. I never quite felt the connection between the two leads, and while there were some spicy scenes, they didn’t feel like they happened in the right situations to really enhance the relationship.
The pacing was also a bit uneven. Some parts of the story felt rushed, almost skipped over, while other moments dragged on a little longer than needed. This left me with the odd impression that the book felt both too short and too long at the same time.
Still, I think there’s a lot of potential here. The concept is strong, the world has promise, and with a bit more development in pacing and character chemistry, this could easily become the sweeping, emotional enemies-to-lovers tale it aims to be.
Even though this one didn’t fully click for me, I’m grateful I had the chance to read it early, and I’ll be interested to see what Laura H. Tarshis creates in the future.
This book gets a good solid 4 stars from me. The author does a great job of making it from the MFC POV. The information your given is what she knows or is given. There are times I felt the story was drawn out or slow but understanding that this is needed for the future of the story, I didn't mind it. There were times that I felt some information could have been added from her perspective as it will skip certain areas in the story but then will go through other details. One of the reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating.
This story is about a MFC that comes from a long line of powerful fairies. There are these evil people that want the power in their veins and end up capturing her and others like her after trying to stay safe. When she figures out there are people she can trust and people she thinks should be able to trust but can't, it makes stories blur in all different directions. And of course there is a love triangle. The triangle is a jagged triangle and interesting to say the least. As the story progresses, you find allies and enemies and more about how they got captured. It tells a story of what people will do for the ones that they love, even becoming an enemy. I can't give away a lot of details otherwise it would cause spoilers.
Overall I enjoyed this story and can’t wait for the next book to see what happens and get some answers. And to see what happens from the love story.....
I was provided a copy and am writing this review based on my honest opinion.
Laura Tarshis delivers a sweeping romantasy full of fire and fairy with just the right amount of bite. Of Wings So Blue sweeps you into a world of dragon shifters, deadly battles, and a healer who doesn’t yet know her true power.
Sophie, granddaughter of the formidable Eldest Errondale, has always believed her worth lies in her gift to heal. But when her grandmother dies without revealing the depth of her strength, Sophie is left vulnerable in a world at war. Through hardship, betrayal, and the horrors of torture, she finds new allies—and slowly begins to uncover the force burning inside her.
And then there’s Draven. The brooding, sharp-tongued dragon shifter whose every smirk and dirty remark keeps both Sophie and readers on edge. Their dynamic is a delicious mix of enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, and a he-falls-first slow burn that will have romantasy fans eating it up. One of the most memorable moments?
“In your dreams,” Sophie snaps. “Every day,” Draven replies.
That line alone had me grinning and flipping pages faster.
If you love romantasy with grit, slow-burn tension, and dragons that bite as hard as they kiss, Of Wings So Blue deserves a spot on your shelf.
