She came to Oak Island to heal. She never expected to find hope, home—and love—waiting at the shore.
After heartbreak and loss, Rachel escapes to the peaceful beach of Oak Island, hoping a fresh start will ease her pain. Taking a job caring for the three lively children of Jonathan, the town’s most respected insurance agent, she finds her quiet plans quickly upended.
Jonathan is a devoted father with wounds of his own—and a heart long closed to love. But as Rachel settles into their lives, a tender connection begins to bloom, rooted in shared faith, family dinners, and the gentle grace found in second chances.
In this heartwarming contemporary Christian romance, healing comes in the form of laughter, love, and the whisper of God’s promises—right where the tide meets the shore.
Perfect for fans of faith-filled, clean romance with depth and heart.
This was a sweet story with a second chance for both Rachel and Jonathan. Both have a strong faith and other family support. Rachel starts as a nanny for Jonathan after he and his wife have separated due to her infidelity. She did not want to stay married even after he forgave her. He was very hurt by this and doesn't trust women much now. They have 3 children and the children rotate weeks between them but there are many times that he has them because she says she needs to work or some other problem.
Rachel loves the kids and does a lot of outside activities with them. She has a soft spot for children and is active in her church, helps with the various younger children ministries.
Both are realistic characters (there are times Jonathan's temper shows and Rachel has her own insecurities that crop up). The family dynamics (both Jonathan with his kids, Jonathan with his parents/siblings and Rachel with her parents and siblings) add a rich sense of where and what created their character.
I enjoyed the book but there was a bit of a disconnect for me towards the end which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 stars (since this was an ARC, maybe the author will modify that portion a bit).
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This book is good book and I enjoyed getting to read it. But at times it was almost not realistic -- these kids are not angels 24/7, no kids are perfect all of the time. I have children and I have never seen or heard of any kids behaving as these three did.
Rachel Timmons lost her husband and moved to Oak Island to heal and get over his loss. But here she found hope, home and love waiting at the shore. Rachel is working in an office but she realizes this is not the job she really wants.
Jonathan Taylor has just lost his wife too but due to her being unfaithful and them getting a divorce. He is lost and very hurt. Jonathan is a very respected insurance agent. He is three children Johnny is 12, Mark is 9 and Susan is 6. He advertises for a part time babysitter maybe going full time when the divorce is final and Rachel applies. She gets the job and the kids just love her. She does more then she is required to for the job, she cooks and has a meal on the table very night, cleans, and does the laundry. She does everything so when Jonathan is home with the kids he can spend more time with them and not doing chores.
Can Jonathan and Rachel forget their past and have a second chance at love?
I did not realize it was almost 500 pages. The content would fit into 200… so there was a lot of "stilted conversation fluff"… a lot of interaction with the kids.. which yes, is everyday life with kids, but maybe not what someone looking for a fluff read would want to sit through pages of.
The book showed a lot of real life struggles & life scenarios. A clean book overall.
Thanks to the publisher & author for the ARC reading. All opinions are my own.
These characters had you rooting for their second chance throughout the entire story! Beautifully written novel about two people, both needing to feel like second chances and happy endings are possible. I couldn’t put this one down!
