Ryan North continues to nail the heart of Superman’s most loyal companion. Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton #3 is equal parts heroic and heartbreaking, with Krypto tested against overwhelming odds. The art captures both the beauty and brutality of the story, delivering an emotional punch that lingers. A must-read for Superman fans who love when the focus shifts to his faithful best friend.
THAT’S MY GOOD BOY! These issues really fly by, but have more emotional impact on me than most any other comic right now. After facing the animal abuse last issue, it’s hard to say this was a nice change of pace but it really just made me cry more with how happy an ending it had. While out in the cold woods wondering by himself, Krypto ended up coming across a little girl…who had hoped he was a rescue dog, turns out she is lost as well. But now they are in this together and that means sharing her last granola bar with him. They wander into the night and the girl embraces Krypto as she cries, just wanting to get back home. As it gets darker they seek shelter in a cave where they cuddle up together and the girl begs to feel better in the morning. As the morning comes around Krypto gets up and realizes she isn’t moving, he drags her out into the sun and starts simpering before full on barking. She starts to mumble and Krypto lets out a bark that sends all the birds in the area flying as she finally gets up. She wraps her arms around Krypto in her delirious state and he begins to run at high speeds as he drags her to safety. With her red coat flowing behind him and her arms wrapped around his neck, this is the first time that Krypto looks to be wearing his cape. That is so beautifully perfect. Eventually krypto’s high speed running turns into jumping as he makes way for civilization in the distance. We cut to later as the girl is comatose in the hospital and her parents have been called, all while Krypto sits loyally at her side, no one able to drag him away. But the moment she wakes up and speaks as her parents begin to embrace her…Krypto sets out on his own once again. He just wanted to make sure she would be alright. What a good boy. But danger is on the horizon, as we look in on Krypto’s crashed ship and realize that brainiac is downloading himself to the console. SON OF A….

This issue was a gut punch in the first half. The father in me was torn apart. North is really doing a great job with this series. There are so few words in this issue but so many emotions and heart is conveyed. I did not expect to enjoy this as much as I am.
Light and sweet, this is Krypto as The Littlest Hobo. It only takes a few minutes to read, but it still takes you on a satisfying little journey as Krypto finds, and tries to help, a child lost in the wilderness. Lovely stuff.
Don't get me wrong: the issue is good. The problem is when you pay for it, get a short issue, and the rest of the pages are a preview for another comic you did not ask for.
Heartwarming book. I am juiced to see where it is going. Who am I kidding, its going to end well. But I still feel bad for Krypto. He is a good boy. The bestest.
