The Oregon Trail was 2,000 miles of prairie grasses, rivers and streams, desolation and dust, drenching rains and blazing sun, life and death. Along the way people are met and friends are made, as together the emigrants travel across the county. For some it was a new beginning for others an escape from the past. In 1867 the trail was not as rough as it had been, still not all who started on the Oregon Trail made it to the end. Bad weather, bad choices, sickness and disease ended the journey for some and they were buried along the trail like so many before them. For Danny it is a dream of a horse ranch and a home. This is a story of determination and perseverance, of life and death, of beginnings and endings. It is also a story about love.
Two stars for story. Formulaic and a lot was predictable. Some parts convoluted and beyond ridiculous. NO EDITING. There was no fact checking done. It irked me every time the author wrote that the characters went to the Missouri river when they were in St. Louis. It's the Mississippi river. And every time the mentioned the Irish language. There is no language called Irish. They speak English or Gaelic. Much more wrong including plain old spell check. They also need grammar check. I'd give lower score just for all that if I could.
The storyline was fine, but predictable. Knowledge of the land and terrain, good. Proofreading and # of typos ridiculous. Legt me proofread your next book. I'll do it for free. Really! The author needs to do more research on Mormon beliefs and culture. Overall, an okay book. There were parts I really loved. CK
One of the best books I have read. Love the story and the people. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys western historical romance.
