Small-town secrets, quirky characters, and slow-simmered plots and an Akita under the table, judging everything.
Harper Burton writes the kind of cozy mystery where the dog has opinions, the alibi never holds, and the pie is always homemade—sometimes with poison.

After twenty years in emergency management handling real-world emergencies (and enough paperwork to qualify as a natural disaster), she now sticks to fictional crises—ideally involving tea, a dog, and a suspiciously well-timed power outage.

She lives in the Carolinas with her husband, a rotating crew of grandkids, and an Akita who—unlike Hatchi—would absolutely leave her at the train station for a hot dog.

Murder at Buttermilk Cafe is her first cozy mystery and the debut of the Windmere Cove Cozy Mystery series—a celebration of quirky neighbors, cinnamon-laced secrets, and the undeniable truth that dogs always know who the killer is.

Murder at the Historical Society is a wonderful addition to Harper Burton’s A Windmere Cozy Mystery Series. I was hooked from the first page by its numerous twists and turns that kept me turning the pages.

A mystery from the past involving Izzy’s grandmother and her grandmother’s best friend has everyone in an uproar when a man’s life, Winters, the director of the historical society is suddenly taken.

Winter's death is not all that Izzy has to deal with right now. There is a mystery surrounding her grandmother’s cookbook and the appliances at her cafe that she’s trying to revive.

The mystery and suspense kept me racing to the end, eager to learn more about Izzy’s grandmother’s cookbook and her appliances. I wanted to find out who was responsible for Winters’ death and why they wanted to harm him.

I also wanted to learn more about the recipes in Izzy’s grandmother’s cookbook—recipes that were ahead of their time and desired by many, people who might be willing to commit murder just to get them.

I can’t wait to read more mysteries in the Windmere Cozy Mystery series to see what happens next in Izzy’s world.

I enjoyed reading Murder at the Historical Society so much that I highly recommend picking up a copy today and joining Izzy in another great mystery! Better yet, why not grab a copy of all of her books while you’re at it?

Izzy Harper and her golden retriever Noodle become entwined into a murder mystery when the director of the Windmere Historical Society is poisoned and Izzy’s jade necklace is found at the crime scene. As she works to clear her name, she finds there are more questions than answers when discovers a secret hidden with her grandmother’s recipes and a cookbook that contains discoveries of epic proportions. Will Izzy be able to solve the crime before the murderer strikes again?

This book was quite the rollercoaster ride! Burton does a great job of creating an exciting and engaging mystery that keeps the reader guessing until the very end. There is intrigue, secrets and even a little bit of romance throughout the book. This story works well as a standalone, though it does include some references to events from a previous book that are connected to the plot. If you enjoy culinary mysteries and surprising reveals, this book is for you.

*I received an ARC of this book. All opinions expressed in this review are solely my own.

Izzy, and of course Noodle, are drawn into yet another murder investigation when the director of the Historical Society is found murdered after the gala presenting the Calloway cookbook. Her Jade pendant being found near the scene tagged her as a person of interest and that simply wouldn't do. Plus, she had personal reasons for trying to discover who stole the priceless cookbook during the murder. This mystery flows smoothly with clues planted throughout and engaging, charming characters that keep the story lively and entertaining. I really enjoyed tagging along with Izzy and the gang as they tracked down clues and chased down leads. She certainly kept Detective Bells on his toes, and not simply out of friendly concern either. When things really start heating up though, will Izzy be in to deep for even Noodle or Bells to save her soufflé?

I had so much fun reading this gift copy provided by the author and voluntarily provided this review. This series simply keeps getting better with each new release. Happy Reading Y'all.

This book is a fantastic addition to the Windmere Cove Cozy Mystery series. With so many mysteries entwined in this book, mysteries on top of mysteries with the murder of the director of the historical society, Winters. It is up to Izzy and her fantastic clue finding Golden, Noodle to find a murderer, find her grandmother's missing cookbook, and solve the problems with her appliances at her cafe. With quite a few suspects popping up in Winter's murder she has to uncover why and who would want him dead? And who and why did someone steal her grandmother's cookbook with her grandmother's special recipes? We are treated to so many twists and turns and red-herrings, just when you think you've unraveled something, you didn't! This is a fast-paced, fun, unputdownable book with great characters that I highly recommend. In fact, I highly recommend the series! I received an ARC of this book, but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

The gala at the Historical Society promises to be full of good food, great conversations and unveilings of historic treasures. Among the treasures is a handwritten cookbook with handwritten notes in the margins, that indicate the cook was discovering new ways to preserve food which will last decades without spoilage

Izzy attended the gala, and she just can't resist trying to solve the mystery of the theft and murder, if they are even related.  Noodle, and of course Izzy, are drawn into yet another murder investigation.
As she works to solve the mystery, she discovers her grandmother was part of the team of cooks that developed the preservation processes.
She certainly kept Detective Bells on his toes, and not simply out of friendly concern either. When things really start heating up though, will Izzy be in to deep for even Noodle or Bells to save her soufflé?

If you like your reads to be without in-your-face violence, you will love this cozy mystery

This is a wonderful read that I did not want to put down! The complex background story starts way back in history which, for me, creates instant fascination. It all starts with some seemingly normal everyday items left behind by a previous generation, until they turn out to be everything but ordinary.
There are a great many appealing facets of this story aside from the puzzling mystery and the history, for instance colorful community members and events, well thought out and convincing minor characters, careful descriptions so the reader can really picture everything well, and last but not least the allure of a larger mystery that is not yet solved. I am already looking forward to the next in series!

I recommend this book to anybody who enjoys diving fully into a new community and its history to experience a surprising mystery. You may never want to leave again! ;)

Wow. This book had so many things going on I cannot imagine how Ms. Burton was able to include so much intricate information in so many different area in this book while keeping the plot outline moving so fast yet smoothly. Kudos to you. This was one of the best books I have read so far this year.

And Noodle is one the best nose investigator in a very small group, including Wyatt Burp, Diggie and Cooper.

I highly recommend both books in this series. I can hardly wait for the next book. The first two books came out so quickly that I can only guess that they must have ready to publish quickly. I will be waiting "patiently" for the third book.

I received an ARC of this book from the author. I highly recommend this book. My review is honest and voluntary. I have also purchased a copy of this book.

A Two Million Dollar Cookbook?

That’s right. This story is all about a cookbook, one created by the great-grandmother of Harrison Calloway, who has returned to Windmere Cove and is restoring the family home. When the cookbook is stolen and Izzy’s jade pendant is left at the scene, she becomes a person of interest when the director of the historical society is murdered. No surprise when she gets right into investigating, along with Noodle, her trusty companion. These Windmere Cove Cozy Mystery stories are highly enjoyable reads. The plot flows smoothly along, the characters are all very engaging, Noodle is absolutely the best and there’s twists and turns galore!

***This was a fantastic book.
The writing and the story itself were very well done, and oh my, the twists!
I could imagine all the people, the place descriptions, and even the smell of the baked goods.
I felt like the mystery aspect was not just a murder mystery. There were *several* mysteries going on at the same time and yet they didn't get jumbled up or off track and never made me feel confused at all. And the twists kept coming!
I have to say again... This was a fantastic and extremely well done story. Can't wait for the next one!

This was a complex mystery that features Izzy and her supportive dog, Noodle. There are a number of twists and turns and some parts of the book were making me hungry. The dishes that Izzy creates in the story include recipe categories like "Diplomatic Dining" for awkward family dinners. I am looking forward to reading more in this series. This is a good read for someone who prefers a more in-depth mystery.

Izzy is the owner of the Buttermilk Cafe but also a retired food critic. She has taken over her grandmother's recipes and finds out that they are more than they seem. She and another lady were working on special canning procedures that were revolutionary in the 1940's. Now there seems to be more to it than any one knew. There are two murders that are tied into the special cookbook that is hiding in plain sight. Great story!
I received an arc and this is my review.
