A modern woman. An ancient hunger. A love that could burn them both to ash.
Maja Werner traded the cold logic of Warsaw for the mist-shrouded village of Świętomir to bury her grandmother – not to unearth a legacy of blood. But the cottage she inherits is breathing. The windows are sealed with salt and iron. And the "superstitions" her mother mocked are scratching at the door, demanding to be let in.
Then she meets him.
Artur Wejchert is not just a neighbor watching from the shadows. He is a creature of folklore come to terrifying life – a Strzygoń, a revenant risen from a century-old grave, kept alive by a hunger that only Maja can sate. He is dangerous, ancient, and inextricably bound to the soil she now owns.
He should be the monster she fears. Instead, he is the only one who understands the silver "witchfire" igniting in her veins.
Drawn together by a forbidden, soul-deep bond that defies the laws of life and death, Maja and Artur must navigate a village steeped in fear and a history written in violence. But as the old gods stir beneath the mountain, Maja must deny her heritage and run, or claim her power and the dangerous man who hungers for her very essence.
In Świętomir, the dead don’t always stay buried – and love is the deadliest ritual of all.

M.P. Blackthorne crafts deeply immersive and emotionally resonant stories that explore the complexities of human connection, transformation, and the profound journey of self-discovery.
From the brutal fight for survival in a post-apocalyptic landscape where unexpected bonds are forged through shared resilience, to the intricate dance of devotion and earned authority in contemporary settings, Blackthorne's narratives delve into the quiet hunger for purpose and belonging. His characters are often strong individuals, navigating worlds that challenge their perceptions of freedom and control, finding their truest selves in vulnerability, unwavering trust, or the stark realities of survival.
Inspired by the raw emotional resonance of literary fiction and the immersive tension of diverse human dynamics, Blackthorne invites readers into worlds where quiet moments hold the deepest weight, and where love is something built, not stumbled into. When he's not writing, he's riding remote roads, delving into wartime memoirs, or losing himself in story-rich computer games where survival is earned.
Intriguing story that pulled me into the narrative right away. Where the supernatural world meets the spiritual world and who maintains the balance. I love a good witch tale and this one delivers that and much more. Maja enters a forgotten folkloric world of otherworldly beings when her estranged grandmother dies and leaves her an inheritance of her home in Świętomir,a tiny Polish village , near Kielce. When she arrives she finds a very special (haunted?) house and her grandmother's journals that show Maja how she will continue her grandmother's work as a witch. Recommended reading for fans of supernatural stories with a great romantic connection with Artur, the sexy, young (or old?) villager. Read for yourself!
Immersed in shadows of the past and the reality of new beginnings…
This is the second book I’ve read by this author. I love the writing and this book really made nature and the earth as if it were its own living, breathing character. The house had ears, and a heart beat… pretty neat… There were repetitive parts, but still highly enjoyable.
Interesting in its treatment of witches and vampires, enjoyed the back to nature of the old pre Christian religion with respect to the earth and its creatures. Held my interest in its unusual approach
