Being the face of a franchise should feel like a dream. Instead, it’s a countdown.
Oliver James finally earned his spot as the Rampage’s starting running back, but hiding a heart condition isn’t exactly a sustainable game plan. The pressure, the secrets, and the constant fear—it’s all one hit away from disaster.
Enter Dr. Sloane Mercer.
The team’s new mental performance coach—brilliant, confident, and absolutely untouchable. She’s here to keep players steady, not fall for one of them. Especially not him.
Their chemistry is instant. Their connection? Impossible to ignore. But in a world where control means everything, letting someone in could cost them both the careers they’ve worked their whole lives for.
He’s not supposed to need her. She’s not supposed to want him.
And if either of them slip, the fallout won’t just break the rules—it could break them both.
Jaqueline Snowe lives in Arizona where the "dry heat" really isn't that bad. She prefers drinking coffee all hours of the day and snacking on anything that has peanut butter or chocolate. She is the mother to two dogs who don’t realize they aren’t humans and a = mom to the sweetest boy. She is an avid reader and writer of romances and tends to write about athletes. Her husband works for an MLB team (not a player, lol) so she knows more about baseball than any human ever should.
I enjoyed the love story in Game Stopper; however, for me, that was the secondary plot to this book. Unfortunately, I didn't understand much of what the book was saying, which took me out of the immersive experience.
So, on one side, we have Dr. Sloane Mercer, the Rampage's new mental performance coach. So, a psychologist? I was expecting more discussions about an athlete's mental health, the pressure, and the implications that their physical limitations or injuries can affect their mental state. And yes, Sloane does address those things, but it almost feels like she was more focused on the players' physical health, specifically Oliver's, rather than the mental aspect. I don't think I fully understood her job, which left me questioning many of the scenes, dialogue, and decisions throughout the story. This is probably more of a me thing as I don't understand how sports medicine, sports psychology, or the organizational structure of a professional football team (or any sports team for that matter).
On the other side, we have Oliver James. We met Oliver in the Central State Football series, and I always enjoyed his character. He didn't get too much time in the spotlight, but he was always the great sidekick to Callum and his partying and crazy ways, while Dean and Luca were the serious, focused, and stoic ones. In Scoring Forever, we saw firsthand when Oliver started having health problems, and although we learned briefly about it, not much information was shared with us. I wish this book had a prologue, taking us back to senior year and going through his first episodes and diagnostics, as well as maybe a flashback to being drafted and his rookie year (highlight moment) of him hiding or compensating for his heart condition. It would have helped those of us who read the initial series fill in some gaps, and for anyone who hadn't read it, they could have gotten some background information, because I felt we were just thrown into the story, already knowing his condition.
Now, I'm not going to lie. I am not a sports fanatic. However, I love sports romance, and I think I have read enough hockey and football romances to say that I can see the appeal (at least of the athlete's dedication and body, as well as their stamina). Until now, my very limited, or nonexistent, knowledge of American football wasn't too much of an issue to read a romance and understand enough of what was happening, both off and on the field, to follow the plot. That is not the case with Game Stopper. I was lost throughout most of this book, and it wasn't even because of the actual game of football. I don't understand enough of the "behind-the-scenes" stuff to know what was happening. Jaqueline mentioned telling the league officially about some results. There were mentions of the staff setup and the roles each position plays in the decision-making process for the roster, the game, and a player's body autonomy. Are players required to wear a medical wearable device at all times, even at home, or are players just chipped when they sign their contract so their vitals can be monitored continuously by the team's medical staff? Seriously. If it were only the fact that I don't understand the inner workings of a professional team, I could power through and just enjoy the book. However, there was a lot of medical terminology revolving around Oliver's health condition. I am glad I read this on my Kindle because the dictionary and Wikipedia functions came in very handy, and I used them repeatedly. I personally think I would have either DNFd the book or just been left in the dark, had I read a physical copy of this book or the audio, because I wasn't going to take the time to separately look up all the words that were being used.
As far as the "person" aspect went...I enjoyed the story. I like the little nods to past characters. I understand that Lolo and Luca or Mack and Dean couldn't be more present in the book, although maybe a few more texts in the group chat, especially during the "medical scare", or maybe Oliver's team playing the rival team that either Luca or Dean were playing (maybe grabbing dinner together) would have been nice but I can understand it. However, I wish we had a bit more Callum, just because we had so much Ivy. With that said, I enjoyed meeting our future MMC in this series and Oliver's teammates. I think the names we really need to flag or highlight and keep in mind are Jordan (I think he might be my fave), Noah, Quinn, maybe Ty, and the coaching staff. I can't wait to see more of them in the future. I am already starting to form my theories on the next couple.
Game Stopper by Jacqueline Snowe came into my life swinging—emotionally reckless, professionally inappropriate, and absolutely determined to derail my reading schedule. Independently published, thank you to the author for the gifted ARC.
This book is an age-gap, forbidden workplace sports romance, but it’s also a surprisingly tender, emotionally layered story about pressure, control, and what happens when two people who are supposed to know better start wanting each other anyway. Oliver James is a star running back carrying far more than just a football career on his shoulders, and Sloane Mercer is the team’s mental performance coach—smart, steady, and painfully aware that one wrong move could cost her everything she’s worked for. The setup is deliciously tense, but the execution is what really pulled me in.
What stood out immediately was how grounded this story felt. The football world adds stakes, but it never overwhelms the emotional core. Jacqueline Snowe writes the quiet moments just as well as the charged ones—therapy sessions that blur into something more personal, conversations heavy with what’s left unsaid, and the constant push-and-pull between responsibility and desire. This isn’t a romance where characters act recklessly without consequence; it’s one where every choice feels weighted, and that made the tension hit harder.
Oliver is written with a vulnerability I didn’t expect and deeply appreciated. Beneath the fame and physicality is a man living with fear, secrecy, and the crushing expectation to be unbreakable. Sloane, meanwhile, is not just “the forbidden professional.” She’s thoughtful, compassionate, and human in a way that made her choices feel real rather than convenient. Watching them circle each other—both trying to hold the line while clearly losing the battle—was equal parts frustrating and addictive.
There’s a line that perfectly captures the emotional heart of the story: “Some risks don’t look dangerous until you realize what you’re afraid to lose.” That sentence lingered with me because it reflects exactly how this romance unfolds. The danger isn’t flashy or dramatic—it’s quiet, internal, and deeply personal. The kind that sneaks up on you while you’re convincing yourself you’re still in control.
The pacing worked beautifully for me. The romance builds with intention, letting the connection feel earned rather than rushed. When the emotional landmines finally go off, they feel earned too. I found myself slowing down instead of speeding through, wanting to sit with the characters and really absorb what they were feeling rather than racing to the next plot beat.
This is a book for readers who love sports romance with substance, forbidden dynamics that actually feel risky, and characters who behave like adults navigating complicated lives. If you’re drawn to age-gap romance that’s more about emotional imbalance than power imbalance, workplace tension that doesn’t gloss over consequences, and stories that balance heat with heart, this one will absolutely work for you.
By the end, I was left with that satisfied, slightly hollow feeling that comes from finishing a romance that hit deeper than expected.
I’m calling this a strong ⭐⭐⭐⭐½ read—the kind that reminds you why sports romance can be so effective when it leans into emotional realism as much as chemistry. Do you prefer your sports romances high-drama and explosive, or quiet, tense, and emotionally invasive like this one?

Game Stopper by Jacqueline Snowe kicks off the Rampage Football series with a heartfelt, emotional sports romance that balances high stakes on and off the field. This story leans into vulnerability, pressure, and the reality of what it means to chase a dream when your own body might betray you.
Oliver James has worked his entire life for this moment. Becoming the starting running back for the Rampage should be the peak of everything he sacrificed for football, but instead of celebrating he is living with constant fear. He is hiding a serious heart condition that could end his career instantly, and every play feels like a gamble he cannot afford to lose. Oliver carries the weight of expectations from the team, the fans, and himself, and the emotional toll of keeping his secret makes him one of the most sympathetic heroes. He is strong on the field but deeply human off it, and the anxiety he lives with is written in a very believable way.
Dr. Sloane Mercer enters the team’s mental performance coach and immediately changes the dynamic. She is confident, composed, and determined to maintain professional boundaries. Sloane takes her job seriously and understands exactly what is at risk if she blurs the lines with a player. What makes her stand out is that she is not there to fix Oliver but to support him, and their connection grows through honest conversations, trust, and emotional safety rather than instant physical attraction.
Their relationship is a slow burn built on vulnerability. Oliver opens up in ways he never has before, and Sloane finds herself drawn to the man behind the athlete. The forbidden aspect adds tension without overpowering the emotional core of the story. Instead of relying on drama alone, the book focuses on healing, fear, and the comfort of being seen by someone who understands you.
The football backdrop enhances the story without overwhelming it. You feel the pressure of the games, the locker room dynamics, and the constant scrutiny athletes face. At the same time, the romance remains at the center, grounded in emotional connection rather than spectacle.
Game Stopper is a softer sports romance that prioritizes character growth and emotional intimacy. Readers who enjoy protective heroes, professional boundary tension, and stories about learning to lean on someone else will find this a satisfying start to the series. It sets up the Rampage team while delivering a complete and heartfelt romance that leaves you eager to meet the rest of the players.
If you’re a fan of sports romance, especially football, you’re going to love this one. It dives deep into the game, from play breakdowns and sports psychology to NFL regulations and the medical realities of the sport. The level of detail is impressive.
And if you’re like me and don’t know much about American football, you’ll definitely learn a lot. I won’t lie, there were moments when I felt a little overwhelmed because there is a lot of information. But it all serves the plot, so it never feels unnecessary.
I love a truly forbidden romance, and this one absolutely earns that label. Dr. Sloane Mercer is the Rampage’s new mental performance specialist, determined to prove herself in a male-dominated industry where women are constantly underestimated. Getting involved with a player on the team is the one thing she cannot afford to do.
Enter Oliver James, the team’s starting running back and the ultimate golden retriever hero. Through his patience, kindness, and unwavering support, he slowly breaks down Sloane’s walls. But Oliver is carrying a life-altering secret about his own heart, one that could end his career in an instant.
Sloane and Oliver’s story is layered with vulnerability. It explores who we are outside of our careers, the fear of disappointing the people we love, and the terrifying question of what happens when the dream we have worked toward our entire lives is suddenly out of reach. Their journey feels raw, intimate, and deeply human.
What I loved most is that the drama never comes from misunderstandings between them. Their relationship is built on communication, support, and sacrifice. When their secret is exposed and real consequences loom, neither of them hesitates. They are both willing to risk everything for each other, which makes it impossible not to root for their happily ever after.
If you’re looking for a sports romance with strong character growth, emotional depth, a reverse age gap, professional boundary tension, a vulnerable hero, and a resilient heroine, the first book in the Rampage Football series is absolutely worth picking up!
Thank you so much to Jaqueline for this great ARC!
ARC REVIEW Game Stopper by @jaquelinesnowe ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️¾ (4.75/5)
I’ve been a long-time Jaqueline Snowe reader, and this might be her best yet. Heavy emotional stakes, elite found-family vibes, and tension so sharp it could snap in half. This is the grown-up, glow-up big sister to Central State Football — and I’m obsessed.
Oliver James has officially joined the roster of the greatest book boyfriends of all time. His emotional intelligence? Unmatched. I am feral for this honest, no-games, heart-on-his-sleeve man. Because while he may be 26, he is all man. Make no mistake. He is so freaking sexy — physically and mentally. I’m going to need every other MMC to step it up.
And Sloane? Badass, DOCTOR of my dreams. Feminine and soft while also being walking, talking competence porn. I’m right there with Oliver, wanting to be so good to her (someone cue the Shoresy meme).
Oliver and Sloane together are a genuinely beautiful couple. When they disagree, they communicate. They’re honest about their feelings and about what those feelings mean in their shared workplace. They support and respect each other. Actual couple goals.
It was such a treat to see my favorite Central State Football couple, Ivy and Callum, still happy years later. I always knew they’d go the distance, so getting that confirmation felt like a little reward.
All jokes aside, this book hit me personally. I was diagnosed with the same condition as Oliver ten years ago and recognized his symptoms early on. This is the first character I’ve ever read with that diagnosis. Is it weird that I got a little excited? Maybe. But I did. While my journey looked nothing like his (definitely not a professional athlete, unfortunately), his experience felt realistic and handled with care from what I know firsthand.
I’m already looking forward to the next book in the Rampage Football series. I cannot wait to see cuddly teddy bear Noah fall in love.
Thank you to @jaquelinesnowe for providing an ARC!

Jaqueline Snowe is holding nothing back as she kicks off the Rampage Football series with Oliver James and Sloane Mercer's off limits reverse age gap romance. If you've read Jaqueline's Central State Football series (most notably book 3- Scoring Forever) then you may remember Oliver and the start of some of his medical issues though it is not completely necessary to have read. This book picks up his story a few years later as he is now on the starting line for the Rampage and still trying to mask what he is really going through. Enter Dr. Sloane Mercer- who was brought on for the mental health of the team- and despite her attempts to keep all lines professional, she just can't escape Oliver James.
This book. It had me up, down, panicked, enamored and everything in between. I loved how despite their age difference and the line drawn between them due to their professional capacity- there is just something special that works between these two. Both of these characters have strained and complicated relationships with their families, they both hold their vulnerabilities close to their chest but the draw between them inexplicably has each of them willing to share just a little more than they normally would.
Now I know Sloane had to keep herself emotionally at a distance for many reasons besides it being an off limits kind of situation- but the back and forth of letting Oliver in then backing away was a little frustrating at times. It wasn't just her though, Oliver frustrated me at times too with trying to hide or downplay his symptoms. Those frustrations could be mostly forgiven though with the sweet and tender moments these two share, the tension and comfort and the protective instinct for one another. That when all was said and done- both Oliver and Sloane would have gladly given up their dreams if it meant the other got to continue theirs.
I'm already excited for more Rampage and what Jaqueline has in store for these guys!
Game Stopper will truly have you well and truly in your feels! The emotional rollercoaster I went through reading this had me reaching for tissues whilst simultaneously laughing out loud then swooning!!
I absolutely loved how Jaqueline Snowe took us from Central State U all the way to the NFL! If you read Scoring Forever (Ivy and Callum) you will remember their bestfriend Oliver, golden retriever with a secret that could ruin his career.
Oliver James has worked his entire life to finally be the starting line running back for The Rampage. But instead of feeling in top of the world, in the best phase of his life celebrating with friends he's living his life in constant fear and anxiety. If someone finds out he's hiding a heart condition not only is he at risk of losing his spot but also pushing his body too far.
Enter Dr Sloane Mercer. Employed to help the team manage their mental health on and off the field. She finally has her dream job but being a woman in professional sports is no easy life, add in alot of the men think mental health shouldn't be a factor on the field, she's faced with more scrutiny and doubts a man would get. She holds her professional standards to a higher standard and tried not to mix work with friendships but the more she gets to know Oliver the harder it is to not let the lines blur.
Not only is it against league rules for a player and medical staff to have a relationship but also it goes against a doctor's ethics to date a patient so Sloane really struggles to let Oliver in. Oliver on the other hand is willing to do just about anything to get even a small part of Sloane. But are their feelings enough to overcome not only work problems but Oliver's heart condition complications.
This book highlights the importance of not only putting your physical health first but also your mental health and trusting those around you to do what's best for you.
I can't wait to see what the rest of the series has in store because Game Changer has quickly become favourite Jaqueline Snowe book to date!
Sloane Mercer has worked long and hard to become a Psychologist and get a job with a professional football team. She was hired by the Rampage to become a mental performance coach, to not just analyze the players but help understand the pressure, physical limits, injuries and more. What she wasn’t expecting though was to break not only her rules, but the team’s rules, when she fell in love with one of the players who was one of the ones she was constantly analyzing. She tries ignoring the fact of the chemistry between them, but a situation puts them into a place they never imagined they would be in. Can this work or will one of them have to walk away from what they both love doing?
Oliver James is hiding something big from the team and his friends. Because before every practice, every game he knows he needs to control it all, but the question is can he? The pressure is mounting not just because this is his dream, but also the dream of his parents, his sister, and others. When Dr Sloane Mercer joins the team he never imagines that she could be the answer, both on and off the field. There is something between them but is it worth it?
This is the first book in the Rampage series by Jaqueline Snowe. There are characters in it from previous series, Central State Football. While you do not have to have read them first, it might help. I wish there had been a bit of a prologue so we could understand what Oliver was hiding, what he had gone through to be drafted. Especially since he is an older player there are some parts that are missing a connection. This book does touch on a lot of topics that do happen not only in sports but in every day lives as well. This book was good but to be honest there were a few parts that were not there if that makes sense. Maybe it was just missing something I am not sure. It is still one that should be added to your TBR list
Thanks to the author for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
If you've read "Scoring Forever" (Central State Football 3), you might remember Oliver. Because he is the best friend of the MCs 😉 And now he got his own HEA, around 5 years after. And yes, he's still best friends with Ivy and Callum, he even works with one of them, but I'm not spoiling with whom 😎 Let me be honest, I didn't remember Oliver anymore 🙈 It's too long since I've read the other series. So I can't say if I liked him back then, but because he was (and is) best friends with the other two, I think I at least didn't hate him 🤣, and now I can say, I instantly fall for him. God, he's such a perfect man. He's definitely a golden retriever 🥰
And yes, I loved Sloane, too. I always have my eyes on the MMCs, sorry 🙈 She is a strong woman, but she also has her weaknesses she doesn't want to show. Especially because of her co-workers 🥺
This is no easy book. I mean the story. Doctor x patient is clearly forbidden. Then, the fact that they work together, another forbidden part. And Oliver's heart condition problematic... 😔 Oh, and not to forget Sloane's problems of being a woman in sports... Yeah, her male co-workers 😖 As I said, not easy. But that makes the story so good 😎
I loved that the team had a mental health doctor. I don't know how common that is in real life, but it's not just physical training athletes need; they have a lot of stress and pressure, too. So this is hopefully real!
I don't know anything about the other books in this series, but I'm excited. There are quite a few characters in the team 😁
Thanks to the author for trusting me with an ARC 🩷
Game Stopper is an emotional, heart-pounding sports romance that hits you right in the feels—and never lets up. Oliver James is living the dream on paper: starting running back, franchise face, future star. But behind the highlight reels is a secret that could end everything—his heart condition. Every game feels like borrowed time, every hit a reminder that his career (and life) are hanging by a thread.
Then comes Dr. Sloane Mercer. The team’s new mental performance coach. Smart, grounded, and completely off-limits.
Their connection is immediate—quiet moments charged with tension, stolen glances that say everything they’re not allowed to. Sloane is there to help him stay focused, not fall for him. Oliver is supposed to stay in control, not crave the one person who sees straight through him.
What makes this story shine is the emotional depth. Oliver isn’t just a star athlete—he’s vulnerable, terrified, and trying to outrun a reality he can’t escape. And Sloane? She’s steady, compassionate, and torn between her heart and her ethics.
The push-and-pull between duty and desire is chef’s kiss. Every moment feels risky. Every touch feels dangerous. And when they finally let themselves feel? It’s powerful, tender, and completely worth the wait.
If you love emotionally intense sports romances with forbidden tension, vulnerable heroes, and a love that feels like both a risk and a rescue—Game Stopper deserves a spot on your TBR.
The Game Stopper will have you all in your feels!! I went through all the emotions. But the biggest one of all was falling in love with the characters. My heart was all in on this story and I devoured it from page one to very last. A phenomenal story that will leave your heart full!
Sports Romance 🏈 Work place romance (she’s the mental health Dr/he’s a player)💘 Golden Retriever MMC
Sloane finally has her dream job. Working as a mental health Dr for the Rampage. Everything is falling into place. She struggles a little being a woman in a mostly mail dominated environment. But she holds her own! Ahhh..she does this with such professionalism and dedication. But when her feelings start to change after getting to know Oliver, things become a little bit different.
Oliver James, he’s a RB for the professional football team the Rampage. He’s finally getting his spot but things begin to change after having an episode. And when he spends time with Sloane this man starts falling fast for her. Why, because she’s the best! The way he cares for her…SWOON!
This romance books has a few storylines that will pull at your heartstrings(literally) I love how it all comes together at the end. Though we follow along through a huge rollercoaster of emotions with it. But in the end LOVE WINS!
This book deserves all the start. I honestly don’t know where to begin.
Oliver has spent his life proving himself and now that he’s living his dream of being a starting wide receiver, nothing will stand in his way. His team has hired a mental performance coach who sees everything in the players. He cannot afford to have his dream snatched away.
Sloane is everything I admire in a FMC. She’s strong and confident. She has a job in a testosterone-filled environment and can definitely hold her own. You see, helping athletes remain steady in their roles is her dream job. Her connection with Oliver is not something she was prepared for. I loved how determined she was to help Oliver, even when he made it very hard to do so. She was so steady all the way through this book and was the perfect partner for Oliver.
The charming wide receiver had a secret that he couldn’t let anyone truly know about or else his career would be over. Oliver was a walking green flag. Sure, he was stubborn but I resonated with his health struggles. He and I share the same medical journey (except I’m not an athlete). When his diagnosis was revealed, I literally stopped and cried because I’ve been in his shoes and it was terrifying. This was honestly the most detailed representation I’ve ever read in a book and I couldn’t love it more!
Game Stopper kicks off the new Rampage Football series and I was so excited to see Oliver back on the page—this time a few years older and carrying a lot more on his shoulders.
Enter Sloane, the team’s new Mental Health Doctor 👀 Yes… there’s an age gap. Yes… it’s technically a reverse age gap. And honestly? I appreciated that it wasn’t overly dramatized.
This one is a true slow burn. The professional boundaries, the tension, the trying not to cross the line energy — it all made the build feel intentional. They weren’t a secret for long, but the emotional restraint really drove the story.
Oliver’s heart condition adds a heavy layer to everything. He’s pushing himself to keep playing, terrified that showing weakness could cost him his career. As a former athlete, I really connected with that mindset — the pressure, the pride, the fear of being benched or cut. Jacqueline did a great job portraying that internal battle.
I’ll be honest — there were moments I was ready for the romance to take center stage because a lot of time is spent on his health journey. But overall, I’m okay with how it unfolded and I loved meeting the new characters.
I’m definitely curious to see how this series builds from here. 🏈✨
Game Stopper came to me right as I was having football season withdrawals, and I’m so glad I got to read it! Sloane and Oliver’s love story was amazing. The doctor-football player dynamic was done so well, and it was incredible to see Sloane in her work environment. It was such a great read and a must have for football lovers and fans of women in STEM!
I need to take a moment for how much of a baddie Sloane is! Her journey as a woman working in sports medicine was so amazing to see. She deserves all the respect and awe in the world, as do all women who work in these roles. Jaqueline Snowe once again does a great job of highlighting both the highs and lows of Sloane’s work as a doctor, and I really appreciated seeing her crush those gender stereotypes.
If Jaqueline Snowe writes a book, I will read (and love) it. The love story between Oliver and Sloane is perfection. Once again, the stories that Jaqueline writes are full of heart, chemistry, and love. I love a football romance, and Game Stopper is another great addition to my list of favorite sports romances!
I voluntarily reviewed a free advance copy of this book provided by the author. The opinions expressed are my own.
Game Stopper is the first book in a brand new series by Jaqueline Snowe. We are now in professional football but we have seen Oliver in a previous series. He is now on the Rampage and you can tell he is still having some issues.
𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑵𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒔: Oliver James & Sloane Mercer 𝑻𝒆𝒂𝒎 𝑵𝒂𝒎𝒆: Chicago Rampage
Sloane is part of the team to help with the mental health of the players. I really enjoyed that part of her but it seemed like her job and the story still focused more on physical health instead of mental health. It did get a little confusing on what her role was and what was going on.
Sloane and Oliver are completely forbidden due their jobs on the team but they can’t seem to stay away from each other. Their insta love story showed that they had a lot of chemistry and built strong love between them. Oliver was so protective of Sloane and it was really sweet to see. While Sloane was worrying about Oliver, he kept hiding his symptoms. But you can only hide it for so long. Will Oliver and Sloane be able to have everything they always dreamed of? Or will something have to give?
What a great start to this new series. As usual Jaqueline Snowe wrote a book that I couldn't get enough of, the chemistry was electrifying, the emotions were palpable and the stomach butterflies were erupting at every turn. She has a way of writing characters that you love and you root for till the end and this book was no different. I absolutely loved both Oliver and Sloane. Sloane was a fierce, smart and strong individual, who needed someone like Oliver with his golden retriever energy to smoothen out her rough edges and show her she was worth loving. They both complemented each other and provided the emotional comfort they both needed. They loved each other in spite of the hurdles they both faced and chose each other when it was important. The found family aspect of the book was wonderful. The supportive relationship Oliver had with his teammates were great. I loved knowing that the friendship between Oliver, Ivy and Callum was still going strong. The recognition and support Sloane got in her field was heartwarming. This book had me on an emotional rollercoaster which I thoroughly enjoyed and I cant wait for the next book.
My Thoughts: Welcome to my favorite Jaqueline Snowe book. I fell in love with Sloane and Oliver from the very first chapter. I was thrilled to see the connection in this book to Scoring Forever, as Oliver and Ivy were both part of that story.
Oliver had no business being as grounded and swoony at his age, but here we are. I loved all he did for Sloane and all he was willing to give up for her career. Despite his own health concerns and battles, he was always there for Sloane, supporting her in her dreams as well. He has a heart of gold for those he loves in his life, I mean swoon.
Sloane was breaking barriers left and right as a mental health doctor in a professional football setting. I loved seeing her channel her drive and determination into finally making her dreams a reality. She played a risky game by falling in love with Oliver, but it was truly one of those once-in-a-lifetime moments.
All in all, I loved this story, especially since it was a football romance, which I don't get enough of. I'm excited to see what's next in this series and to see more of Oliver and Sloane.
What You'll Find: 💔forbidden romance 😌🤭age gap 📱🏈workplace romance
4.25 Stars— I LOVED the rawness of this book both Sloane and Oliver are dealing with real issues and their relationship developed so beautifully. The balance of sports inclusion with relationship focus was perfect and I can’t wait for the rest of the series.
Dr. Sloane Mercer has a lot to prove as the “mental coach” on a professional football team. She’s qualified but she’s a woman in a male dominated profession— and asking them to think of their mental health as much as their physical health. When she gets her chance to prove to the organization that her work matters, she has to fight the draw she has to Oliver.
Oliver finally has everything he wants, and his heart condition isn’t going to stop him. Until he can’t hide it anymore and he’ll stop at nothing to get back on the filled— no matter the risk to his health. When the walls he built to protect himself and his career start to crumble from getting to know Sloane, he’s faced with the idea that something could be more important than football.
I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
- Football romance - Workplace romance - Forbidden romance - Close proximity
I am truly in my sports romance era. I cannot get enough of this genre! This is the first book in the new Rampage Football series, but it is connected to the Central State Football series.
This book follows a storyline that I feel is very relevant in the sports world. Oliver has a health condition that he is trying to keep secret so it won't impact his ability to play professionally. He can tell the signs to keep himself just under the radar....that is until recently. He had an incident and is now under more scrutiny than he cares for, so he is playing along with the team doctors and management to get back on the field.
Sloane is a new hire to the Rampage team and her work is cut out for her. She is working against male co-workers that don't give her the respect she deserves. Again, a very relevant topic.
The attraction between Sloane and Oliver is incredible, but is this a matter of wrong place, wrong time?
I'm so freaking happy and grateful to have received an Arc copy of this book!! I have been waiting to read about Oliver ever since the Central State Football series!!
Going into this book I knew it was going to be fun and exhilarating but gosh this book held so much emotion and character development! Oliver James, you are sooo stubborn but also a good person and sooo in love with Sloane. Sloane is hard working, smart and careful in her life. The bit of slow burn and chemistry between them and how they slowly started to care for each other more and more!! Towards the end of the book I was so freaking worried and just thinking of how the book would end but I'm glad that it ended with a happy ending!! It was so good to see mentions of past characters from the Central State series and seeing IVY!!! Omg she was such a part of this book I loved seeing her involved with the football team!! And then Callum--it was good to see him make an appearance too!! Definitely looking forward to the next books in this series!!
What a great workplace football romance! Sloane and Oliver were completely smitten with each other, each willing to make the necessary sacrifices for the other. Sloane joined the Rampage team as the team's mental health doctor. She's hardworking, very independent, and carries a lot of weight on her shoulders, not only the team's but her family's. Oliver has finally landing a starting position on the Rampage. However, he's hiding what his body is telling him. He's such a sweet, kind-hearted man, who just wanted to be loved at the end of the day. Together, the build-up and the tension between the two were so enjoyable. And their relationship was so relatable and pure. One criticism that I did have though was I couldn't make the connection between why the mental health doctor was so involved in his heart issues. I know there was a loose connection, and I may have very well missed it, but I don't think I fully understand what Sloane's job was. I also wish there were more parts about Sloane's relationship with her brother. Regardless, this still was an enjoyable workplace football romance! Can't wait to read the rest of the series.
This was a mid slow burn as we first get to know each character individually. Sloane is introduced as the new director of mental performance and clinical sports psychology of the team Rampage. While Oliver who has problems with his heart is the running back of the team Rampage. Just knowing these two details we know we are about to read about a forbidden relationship. I love these kind of forbidden relationships because it makes the couple more of a team. Seeing there relationship progress into trust was satisfying as they finally had someone to lean on. The side characters also added to the story. They showed support to both characters in different ways. Found family with players always leaves you with a warm feeling. My only holdup was that when they talked about Oliver's health conditions I had to look up said health condition. To grasp exactly what it was and what were any triggers. Having to look these things up messed with the flow of reading the book.
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This is the second book I've read from Jacqueline Snowe. Sometimes, you read a new author and think "no way the next book you read by them will be as good as the one you already read." Well, Jacqueline Snowe is one you can say "yes, they write incredible books"!!
This book offers so much to the reader. Emotional depth, maturity of the characters, heavy topics with hope, depth of emotion that makes you cry, and a love story to remember.
Oliver and Sloane are incredible together! You want these two to be together so much as you read their story unfold, and when the climax happens, you are invested and praying it all works out.
The supporting characters are perfectly written for Oliver, and to see how he evolves and accepts love is beautiful.
Note: This review is for an ARC and is my unbiased opinion.
I love how Snowe took us from Central State football to the professional world! Oliver was Ivy and Callum's friend made it to the NFL by their sides while hiding some major health issues. Sloane was a doctor the team brought in to help the team with their mental health. Working together brought them into each other's orbit, but it might also be the thing that rips them apart. They had such a sweet relationship. It was fun to see negative feelings turn into more than positive ones when it came to dealing with each other. I loved them together. I also loved the side characters just as much as I have in the rest of Snowe's books. I can't wait to read more about them, and it was fun to see Ivy and Callum again.
Really gripping. Jaqueline Snowe always writes good sports romances, and this was no different. Game Stopper had a more emotional edge than usual, and even though it twisted by the chest, it was also really moving to read.
Sloane and Oliver are both characters that you can’t help but feel empathetic towards. Their relationship felt like a quick unwinding, and the possibility of a 3rd-act breakup put everyone on their toes.
If you like: -sports romance -Age gap -Forbidden romance -workplace romance
This is for you!!
It was also so fun to see a bunch of characters from other novels!
Jaqueline Snowe does it again by bringing life to a football romance between a player and a doctor in her latest book “Game Stopper”. Reading about Oliver and Sloane’s love story has been such an enjoyable experience. Jaqueline really took initiative with doing research on medical issues as well as anxiety. I couldn’t get enough of this book since I started it. With wanting to know how Oliver and Sloane would work out there relationship, to how Oliver was going to navigate his medical secret. Every moment kept me on the edge of my seat and my nose planted firmly in this book. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves football and sport romances. I can’t wait to read more in this new series !
This was such a sweet story for Oliver and Sloane. Sloan landed her dream job with a professional football team as the Director of Mental Performance. Oliver just got his dream as starting RB for the Chicago Rampage. Only one problem, Oliver has been hiding a medical condition since college. He’s tried to manage it on his own until Sloane comes into his life and sees right through him. For him it’s instalust and lucky for him he finds out that she’s his neighbor. Oliver is the perfect golden retriever with the want to prove his worth to those in his life. Sloane is trying to prove that she can dominate in a male dominated profession. It’s the perfect start for the Chicago Rampage.
Jaqueline Snowe is one of those authors that if she writes it, I’m reading it. Doesn’t matter what it’s about. So when I was picked for an ARC for this book, I was over the moon.
It’s filled with all of my favorites:
💜 Sports romance (football) 💜 Age gap (she’s older!) 💜 Forbidden work place 💜 Found family
Game Stopper was such a well rounded book. I found myself lost in the story almost immediately and loved every second of it. Sloane Mercer is a bad ass, intelligent woman and Oliver James is such a sweet and strong MMC.
This really may be one of my favorites by Jaqueline Snowe now and I’m really excited to book 2 in the series.
Sloane and Oliver’s love story swept me away from the first chapter and I could not put it down. The plot was strong and engaging, and the character development felt both emotional and deeply hopeful.
The connection between Sloane and Oliver was immediate and undeniable. Once they chose to fully commit to each other, their relationship blossomed in such a beautiful way. Watching them let their love shine and grow into an unstoppable team was incredibly satisfying and heartwarming.
If you’re a fan of sports romance, workplace tension, forbidden love, and a compelling age-gap dynamic, this book is absolutely for you.
This book was so enjoyable. The plot was perfect. From the beginning to the end, I couldn't stop reading and enjoying the relationship that formed between Sloane and Oliver. Oliver was such a strong character, but he had a fear of letting people down and was his problems. Sloane was the team's mental health doctor and took her job very seriously. This is evident when she notices that something is off with Oliver and she is determined to help him, and it's through this close relationship that feelings develop. The relationship between Sloane and Oliver was such a joy to read, and I loved the connection that Sloane had with her co-workers.
