Sam Reilly #37

Shōgun Resurrection:

Rate this book
A forbidden past. A rising threat. A nation on the brink of isolation…

In the 17th century, the Tokugawa Shogunate sealed Japan’s borders from the world – foreigners were banned, Japanese were forbidden to travel, and trade was limited to a single artificial island, Dejima, off the coast of Nagasaki. For over two centuries, the nation remained hidden… until U.S. gunboats forced it open in 1854.

Now, in the present day, Sam Reilly and his wife Amira arrive in Nikkō for a quiet escape. It’s their first time in Japan – and they’ve chosen to enjoy a peaceful babymoon in a land steeped in history.

But peace is short-lived.

Renjiro Tokuda, a direct descendant of the last shogun, has set in motion a centuries-old plan passed down in secret – one that seeks to restore Japan’s isolation at any cost. Behind his cries of honor lies the opening move of a violent coup.

Cut off and hunted in a foreign land, Sam will stop at nothing to protect Amira and get them both out alive – even if it means unleashing an ancient defense he once swore to destroy.

But when the path to escape becomes clear, Sam realizes the price – only one of them will ever leave Japan alive.

3.5 Stars rounded up

Yet another Sam Reilly adventure story that incorporates some elements of the previous novel, The Shield of Hercules. The primary locations include mainland Japan and coastal France. This novel involves Renjiro Tokuda, a descendant of the Tokugawa Shogunate, who wants to restore the isolationist policies of that shogunate. He and his warriors imprison Sam and a group of tourists at a Japanese castle in furtherance of his government takeover.

While Sam is confined in Japan, Tom and the rest of their crew are aboard their ship, Tahila, exploring coastal French caves. They hope to find ancient golden artifacts that may be connected to Japan and to a guarded secret.

To see how all these elements come together becomes the driving force of this story.

To live a full life or live to fight a shōgun

OMG what a fascinating book, Sam has found some wonders Atlantis a large ship in a mountain but this is leading us to a prophecy that's probably not true Sam made a promise to find the truth. He is set up to fight not one but 8 shōgun warriors and makes a decision that could end his life to survive so others may be set free. This adventure is so much more and not to be missed recommend

would have been 5 stars except for the error

Chapter 74 you had Genevieve in the store with Tom, Hu, Pax and Kuroe. It should have been Amira.

It was difficult to read with the jumping around from different characters POV in different locations/countries.

To me, it seems as if the story was rushed to get publish. I hope you take the time on the next book since you left many characters in different locations.

I enjoy these Sam Reilly books though they extend reality. A woman 32 weeks pregnant with twins skiing in virgin powder on a mountain is not believable. Also, they need new proofreaders many wrong words and repeated sentences. I am finding mistakes in many books lately.
This is a fun book a great read to rest your brain and get away from the news and stupidity that is today's world.

Gungho

I love the stories as this why I read fiction. However, I do wish that whomever proof reads these books would do a better job. In this one there are words missing, a whole section repeated which made no sense.

no reality

The author evidently never had a five year old child. No touch with reality. And no 32 month old woman is running around fighting samurai. He has gone from speculative action thriller to pure fantasy with no reality

The Cat's Not in the Hat!

This is the second part of the story found in Book 37. Next is the 3rd part. Will Sam Reilly perish, or Will their be a 4th part. Regardless, it's one startling adventure after another! And seemingly they get better and better!

OMG Heart beating action!

This was by far the most nerve wracking book in the series yet.

The moment he took the Shield of Hercules, I was like Noooo.... Whyyy!

And hoping against hope there is a solution!

Next book please!

Another great Sam Reilly novel. But short. And now it leads to another novel so that hopefully Dam doesn’t die.
