After having books four and five on my TBR for almost three years, I am so tickled pink to finally read them! After experiencing the Maya Davis fourth book with a new main character and enjoying it, I was more than happy to read this continuation of the Lauren Holbrook series—that happens to not be in Laurie’s point of view. Annie is definitely a pretty close 180-degree difference in personality compared to Laurie, but she still has that great faith and a fun sense of humor. (I just happen to like all of Erynn Mangum’s leading girls and feel a kindred spirit with all of them. :) ) Really enjoyed this novel and cannot wait to start the fifth book next!

*BFCG may (Read the review to see) recommend this book by this author. It does not mean I recommend all the books by this author.
This has been my favorite of the Lauren Holbrook series so far. I like the series so much more when Laurie isn’t the protagonist!
Yes, I still find Laurie pushy and a bit annoying - not to mention VERY heavy handed with the matchmaking - but I did love the way she and all her friends instantly made Annie feel like part of the group. They were so welcoming and friendly.
I liked Annie a lot. All of Erynn Mangum’s characters are very relatable, and her books tend to be character driven, rather than plot driven. In this book, Annie wrestles with fear of the unknown/change, and it’s a common thing to be afraid of, so she was easy to relate to.
I like Zach well enough, but I’d like to see Andrew in the story a little more.
Oh, and one of the characters is named Natalie, so that was cool!
Fun story with beautiful Colorado and a fabulous coffee shop as the backdrop. I love that Mangum added to the series independently, however, the closet editor in me was itching for my red pen. Thus, 3 stars instead of 4.
Oh. My. Goodness.I have been waiting to read this book since I first heard she was writing it, seeing as she is my favorite author. It was perfect. (Well, sort of. But we'll get to that.)
Anne McKay is a 28 year old financial adviser, used to moving often and never staying in the same place for 2 years.
Then comes her assignment to Laurie's Town (I don't remember the name, if it even was mentioned), Colorado.
On her first day there, she is bombarded with the force that is Laurie Holbrook née Palmer. Also a very pregnant, very grumpy Hannah. Also amazing coffee (from Merson's, of course.)
Very soon, Annie is adopted into Laurie's "family" and for the first time in a decade...Annie might want to stay.
From the moment Laurie appeared on the page with her 3-year-old, Cannon and adorable 5-month-old Corbin, I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. (Because, I mean, while Annie's lovable, I really read it for Laurie.)
There is so much I could rave on about (in a good way!) but I won't. Because I'm tired and this review is already too long to read.
Anyway, there were a few typos. Slightly annoying, but because the writing was wonderful and hilarious, I got over it.
Tl;dr: This book is fantastic and you should read it. Like, now. Edit 6/11/15: Re-read it in anticipation for Bake Me A Match. It's just as wonderful as I remembered, though I did find a discrepancy or two (eg. When Zach goes to Annie's appt. the first time, he drives an "old, steel gray Jeep Cheroke," but later when he takes her to his lookout mountain, he "drives an older Toyota 4Runner.") that could have been avoided with a bit better editing, though it didn't detract from the story at all. I'll state this again: Erynn Mangum is my favorite!
It’s so interesting to me how changing the character changed the whole tone and feel of the book.
Annie is very different from Laurie. She’s honestly the first character I’ve related to in this series and we are so freakishly similar (except she doesn’t like the cold). She overthinks, is super nervous about dating, downplays what she does… yeah I see myself in her.
Because Annie’s personality is different, this book feels a little deeper and more raw. It’s still got plenty of hilarity, don’t get me wrong. It’s just also more thoughtful I guess.
We’re sevenish years after the last book and there are so many kids!!!! It’s fun to see where everyone is in life. I like how Annie totally sees right through Laurie when no one else has this whole series. I mean no one else saw it when they were being set up.
I was so thrilled to happen upon this book. The first three in the series were so good and I was glad to get to read more about the entire crew. Annie was a likeable character and her love interest, Zach, seems sweet and amazing. I didn't love all of Laurie's pushy moves, which is why I did not give the book a five.
I love this book! Again, not surprising, because I love all Erynn Mangum books. The main character Annie reminded me a lot of Paige from the Paige Alder series, but still somehow knew and different. The love interest Zach was also really cool. Honestly, I can't not love any of these characters because they are all so well written! Laurie and the gang were back! I cannot express how happy I was reading this! I will likely read this book so many times over my lifetime that it will get worn through. I love Love LOVE this book! I would so recommend it. Please make sure you read ALL of the books before this or you won't understand it and all its nostalgia. Also I was getting serious Luke in Gilmore Girl vibes from Shawn. I was so happy and sad while reading this book because I know it is nearing the end of the series. I was almost bipolar, crying at nothing in particular and then laughing 'cause Erynn Mangum's got a great sense of humor. :D If you are a Laurie Holbrook series lover I would recommend you buy these books sooner than later, because they just did a republishing (aka: how I got the last two books).
I recently mentioned The Lauren Holbrook stories because I love them so. Well, this is a continuation of the series! Only Ms. Mangum took Lauren herself and made her a secondary character. Which is not a bad thing at all! Lauren is living her happily ever after, but she's always ready to help others find theirs. This time it's Anne and she is a girl after my own heart. She's quiet and introverted, yet friendly and fun when you get to know her. She's also a bit lonely and watching Lauren and her friends take her under their wings and fill her life with friendships, coffee, dessert, and a certain handsome someone is just wonderful. The friendships in these books are my favorite aspect of the stories. This group of people just makes me wish they were real so I could go hang out with them! :) The only complaint I have? Is that now I'm so anxious for the next book and I still have several months to wait!!!
Oh why did this book have to end??!! Just LOVED the characters from the previous books in this one as Annie figures out what her purpose is and whether or not she should stay in town! I can't believe it ended incomplete, but YAY OH YAY there will be another book coming later this year, so totally worth the open-ended conclusion and more of Annie with these crazy, fun-loving people :) Lots of coffee, romance, laughter, and Christ......Erynn just KNOWS how to write stories that pull me in and never want to let go, highly recommend this one if you've read the rest of the series, one of my faves of 2015 :) :) :)
First off may I say when you read this series stock up on baked goods, chocolate, and coffee because you'll be craving it every time you read. I love this series and Mrs. Magnum did not disappoint with her latest addition Match Made. Erynn does such a great job of writing relatable and vivid characters. I originally was introduced to this writer through this series and immediately related to and fell in love with Laurie Holbrook. Her sarcasm, quick witt and love for chocolate and coffee have made her one of my favorite literary characters. If you're looking for a book (or series) to brighten up your day I recommend you pick up one of these books you will not regret it.
Love this whole series. It was great to catch up with old friends although it was a little weird at first to read about Laurie from someone else's point of view. Loved Annie and Zach. What I love about Mangum's stories are that she writes about very normal people if that makes sense. They seem to be people you'd know, people you'd be friends with, or even you. It makes them feel like friends and makes them characters you remember long after you finish the book.
I have read the earlier books in this series about a dozen times each so I was excited to see that Erynn had added two more! While I adore these characters and enjoy the writing style, I didn't think this book was as well done as the previous ones. There were some editing errors like one character mentioning they've had a certain dish many times and then a few chapters later saying it sounded disgusting and why would anyone ever eat that. There was also a conversation where they switched a name halfway through, I was completely thrown off until I realized it was an error. On a more emotional note, it isn't written from Laurie's perspective like the other books and the story takes place several years later. This isn't bad but I felt like I had fallen out of touch with my best friend and reconnected to discover that I missed SO much. I used to be able to read her thoughts, now there's this feeling of disconnect.
This is part of a five book series and I really loved the previous three books and I loved this one as well, but it changed to a new main character which was a little different. I ended up really liking the new main character and her love interest and liked that Ms. Mangum wove all of the beloved former characters into the story with all of their life updates as well. It seemed weird to have a new main character for book four in the series, but if you can look past that, this book has all the same great wonderful qualities of her other books - funny, quirky, faith-filled, a little romance, and sweet!
I would give this 4.5 stars if I could, only removing the half star because of some editing issues and one inconsistency (maybe ridiculous, but on one page, Laurie loves eggplant parmesan and has eaten it dozens of times...later in the book, she says "ew"/it's implied that she would not eat it).
THIS STORY WAS SO SWEET. I loved it. If you love Erynn's writing and style, then this will not disappoint. I thought it was the perfect continuation of the series many years later...similar enough and with enough of the old characters to feel familiar and yet different enough to let the new characters shine.
It has been enjoyable to have a fun series to read and relax in. I like that she chose to continue the series but draw in a new main character. I like that it ended on a cliffhanger so you want to grab the next one. The editor in me found a few spelling errors and wishes the whole series at been edited a bit better to tighten it up, but i still liked it. I think 20 somethings trying to find their place could relate. I would have loved this series when i was in college.
2018 staff challenge-next book in a series you are reading.
Well if this wasn’t just a delicious addition to a series of books that I had no idea existed!!!! I’d read the first three, and though let it ended there. I’m glad I was wrong - this was a great addition!! And from a different POV too! Cheesy, simple, fun, relatable - love it.
loveeeeeeee this author 🥰🥰🥰 these characters are so relatable, so real, and so funny! I can always expect an entertaining, delectibly sweet, light-hearted read from Erynn Mangum!
Oh, I love the introduction of new characters! When I initially read the series, the last two books hadn’t been released. I love being able to continue on with Laurie and crew! Great read.
Really enjoyed this book in the series! As a 28 year old introvert, I could relate in some ways to Annie and her fears. Also loved seeing the perspective of a newcomer being welcomed into the awesome friend group of Laurie’s. Also I love Zach! Him and Annie together are so cute!
