Deep under the city of Niagara Falls lies the largest tunnel ever constructed. Soon to be completed it will supply a steady supply of water to the Robert Moses Power Plant, a facility that supplies most of the energy for the upper east coast of the United States. Jack and his team arrive to inspect the security of the project before it goes into operation, but Al Qaeda has other plans.
Taking over the facility the terrorist now hold the staff and the entire eastern seaboard hostage. Jack finds himself cut off and trapped. He has two problems. One, he's 400 feet underground, and two, one of the hostages is his wife.
The terrorist think they have the upper hand, but they don't know Jack.
Have you ever wondered how safe our electrical grid is? If you haven't you will from now forward. After reading this excellent book we should all lobby our congressmen and congresswomen to beef up the security of ours. You will be biting your fingernails while reading of how an attack could happen and the ripple effect it would have in our country. Horrific!
Another thriller that speaks to the heart of our nations security issues. These books are so informative and well written that I learn something from each one.
I have read two of Mr. Wood’s books, Closure (Jack Randall #1) and Scarcity (Jack Randall #3), so naturally, I just had to read this book when it came out. I was not disappointed in the least. This novel is a mix of mystery/thriller, military, political and international intrigue, along with terrorism – counter-terrorism drama. This story sees Jack Randall in a new position where he checks the security of the nation’s infrastructures. Jack’s extensive background and connections makes him right person for the job. It takes every bit of his knowledge, skill, and trust in his companions to get him through the events that unfold. It was scary realistic and I had a difficult time putting the book down. I can easily see this being developed into a made for television movie. Warning: This book is for Mature Audiences due to violence and adult language.
Really got caught up in the characters, the situation and the possibility of this same scenario happening in real life. Wood did an excellent job of sharing a story the reader can feel and see happening in the world we live in today. Found myself going to bed earlier so I could read more! Thats how I judge if it's my personal 5 star criteria-if you can't wait to read more it's a great book & was hooked on this one!
This book was riveting and scary at the same time. Wood tells stories that are so possible it's frightening. He lays the story out in segments easy to follow and makes you want to keep reading until your finished.
Great read! If you are a fan of reading books that keep you up at night while you can hardly wait to see what happens next; then this book is for you. Well written, as the threads all lead to the conclusion.
A good book from first page to back cover. With so many different sub plots running at once you need to keep your concentration or it falls apart. .but well worth it. . . Enjoy, I did.
Mr. Wood redeemed himself by bringing all his characters back to this story and letting Jack Randall show up to lead his team into victory against the terrorists. Wise decision. Good action, not as much on-and-on description and details (although not sure why I needed to know every single thing the SEALS had in their backpacks??), and a decent, engaging plot. He must be listening to his readers.
However, --SPOILER-- with all the skimming through book #3 did I miss the love sparks between Lenny and Sidney? All of a sudden, in the end they are a pair. Hmm. Not enough interest in these characters to continue, right now anyway. Maybe I'll read him again on the next vacation. We'll see.
Much better than the prior novel where Jack barely appeared. This whole storyline is scarily believable. I hope the people responsible for national security in the USA have planned for this.
