Harper Mitchell-Wright's ten-year plan didn't include a career implosion, divorce, and single motherhood. But as a fitness influencer, she knows how to put in the work. She'll get her life back on track. She swears.
When the job search gets desperate and renovations force her out of her childhood home, Harper has only one option: her former best friend. The man who broke her heart ten years ago.
Harper was always the one that got away. After struggling to manage his gym, R3, on his own, Will Reese realizes she also might be the key to saving his business. And he won't catch feelings this time. He swears.
But when working together turns into familiar friendship, then more, their attraction becomes impossible to ignore. As Harper's lifelong career goals slip further out of reach, and the fate of R3 hangs in the balance, can they find a way to bear the weight of it all together? Or will the strain push them to failure?
Weight for It is the third book in the Occupational Hazards series, and features a golden retriever MMC, an unstoppable FMC, and the most adorable toddler. Readers will enjoy cameos from fan-favorite characters from the rest of the series, and a swoony, spicy love story that'll give your heart a workout.
I feel bittersweet about the series being over, but I love Harper and Will's story, and it feels like a natural bookend to the era.
Will and Harper are both such great cheerleaders for each other, but struggle to be that for themselves, and I love the way they support and validate each other. Will is a successful golden retriever on the outside, but feels inadequate because his path looks different than those around him. Harper had that perceived 'perfect' life, but it fell apart, and now she has to reevaluate what true success and happiness look like for her. It’s such an honest depiction of how different the way people view and judge themselves can be from how others perceive them.
Will is just so good, it’s impossible not to love him. I thought I might have trouble connecting with Harper, but the concept of her younger self going along with what society and her family thought was right for her is so relatable, and it was satisfying watching her find her own way finally. I did get a little frustrated with Will for not telling Harper about the business issues sooner, and with Harper for wearing blinders in regards to her management company, even if from a character/story perspective I get why they do.
As with all of Julia’s stories, any miscommunication doesn’t last long, even with Harper’s ex, and I love her for it. She consistently writes stories that feel realistic while still giving you that romance novel high, and flawed but loveable and mature characters with palpable chemistry. I will miss the occupational hazards crew, but I can’t wait to see what’s next!
I received this as an eARC and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
When the acknowledgements start with "don't cry" and you're thankful for the reminder, (because how is it over already??) it's gotta be a good book. And Oh My GOD good doesn't even begin to describe it. I've told you about Julia Fisher's writing style before, right? Because it only gets better. It is amazing. It's fun and immersive and 90 percent of the time I forget I'm reading. The other ten is when someone pokes their head in reminding me I actually have a life to live outside of R³ (Will's gym) and the Occupational Hazards series. So, I'll force y'all to believe me that the writing is a dream. But what's good writing without a good storyline? But worry not, she delivered. Of course. Again. We follow recently divorced Harper and her friend from college, Will, who's been nursing an unrequited crush for years. Watching the two of them figure out their feelings and plans in the middle of the chaos that is life was beautiful. Occasionally stressful, heartbreaking and emotional af, but mostly beautiful. Add little Josie and Will's humour to the mix and you've found the perfect book to distract you from whatever is going on and just make you feel good for a few hours.
You CAN read this on its own, but you could also enjoy the perfection that is the rest of this series first and meet Lainey, Sam, Tess and Dylan. Plus, that's an amazing way to pass the time until this book is released on May 20th!
OMG I couldn’t put it down! I’ve read other books by Julia Fisher but I came in late to this series. So I read book 3 before the other but I wasn’t even lost, you can read as a stand alone. The anticipation is there, the spice is so there and the feels are there. The story line just flows and the banter is on point (love me some banter). The way she has the characters develop and grow is endearing. I will definitely go back and read the whole series. Can’t wait for more from Julia she is fast becoming my favorite author!
This is a spoiler free, ARC review. Thank you to the author for the advanced copy.
This was actually a nice read. I did the ARC for the Love V.2 so when this was announced, I jumped at the chance to see how it holds up. The story itself is quite good. I was drawn in by Harper's struggle as a single mom who also was a former content creator. Her dynamic with Will, while it did put me on edge, felt better as the story went along. I would highly recommend this one for folks who like contemporary love stories with 2nd chance romance, ex-friends to lovers, and so much more.
Once a successful fitness influencer, Harper is now a divorced single mom who has fallen on hard times. She is fighting to regain access to her professional social-media channels, which are owned by an unscrupulous management company. When Will, an overworked gym owner and Harper's former friend slash coworker, gives her a much-needed job and a place to stay, sparks fly and Harper's plans for her future change. Weight for It is an enjoyable second-chance contemporary romance with good tension, well-written spice, and an interesting look at social-media influencing and the fitness industry.
I started and finished this in one day. Will and Harper had such amazing chemistry and a fun little twist on a second chance/enemies to lovers type of romance that I have not read before. I laughed, I cried, and I was rooting for them every step of the way.
I also really enjoyed that none of the drama that they faced came from an ex. Harper and her ex had their own stuff going on, but the personal growth there was amazing.
Second chance romance without a "real" first chance. Set in the personal trainer/fitness world, Harper the FMC realizes that sometimes you need to step away from your old dreams to find something/someone better.
