Doomed Vows #1

Darkest Oblivion

Rate this book
I overheard my father and uncles debating which of the four rival mafia heirs I’d be arranged to marry.
I didn’t care—until he walked in.

Dmitri Volkov.
My greatest tormentor.
The heir of our enemy.
Now the ruthless boss of the most feared Bratva in the city.

He didn’t ask. He declared: “I’ll marry her.”

Naturally, I refused.
I thought that was the end—

Until an invitation arrived. Dmitri’s wedding.
Finally, I thought, he was moving on.

I walked into the church smiling.
I didn’t realize I was walking straight into a trap.
Straight into my own wedding.

At the altar, his lips curled into that cruel, mocking smirk:
“Didn’t you promise to marry me at twenty-five, sweetheart? Or did you think I’d let you forget?”

That night, he didn’t even stay home.
When he returned with hickeys and slid his ring back on, I asked who she was.
His answer cut me to pieces:
“Seraphina—slim, graceful, desired… everything you’ll never be.”

And that was only the beginning of my hell.
Because Dmitri’s punishments were never random—they were an obsession.
Every cruel word, every calculated humiliation was his twisted way of branding me as his.

When my asthma attack struck, he stood there watching, stealing my inhaler with a sneer:
“Gasp for me, Penelope. Maybe death will finally make you mine the way I want. Maybe then you’ll understand you don’t get to leave me."

He spat that a “fat, useless wife” like me didn’t deserve to carry his child.
He wanted me broken. Dependent. His.

Until the day I fought back.

I slammed divorce papers onto his desk and walked out of his life—
Bleeding, shattered, but finally free.

Now?
The cold, unfeeling psychopath is tearing the world apart to find me.
Begging. Groveling. Obsessed more than ever.

He’s kissed my feet before a crowd, vowing:
“Penelope, I was wrong. I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to you.”

But I’m no longer the girl he broke.
And forgiveness? He’ll have to earn it the same way he made me suffer.
“Anything, sweetheart,” he swore.

I smiled.
“Perfect. Because I want you to suffer the way I did—slowly, painfully. Forgiveness will come the day you take your last breath… with my heel on your throat.”

About the author

O.S. Feathers

15 books144 followers
O.S Feathers writes dark, twisty love stories about morally questionable men and the fierce, brilliant women who bring them to their knees, sometimes literally. She has a soft spot for arranged marriages, possessive antiheroes, and heroines who know how to shoot or at least threaten with style.

She drinks too much coffee, lives for slow-burn tension, and has never met a knife-to-throat scene she didn’t love. When she’s not writing, she’s probably researching obscure Russian swear words, rewriting a spicy chapter for the third time, or convincing her characters that therapy is not, in fact, the enemy.

If you like your love stories messy, dangerous, and just a little unhinged, she’s got you.

I was so confused by the Russian MMC being part of the Italian mafia. The weird moments that just made no sense.

Gave up half way through when it just became apparent I wouldn’t stop judging everything.

written by AI

Don’t waste time or money. Book is clearly AI written. MMC has Russian name, but is part of the Italian mafia. No way this was written by an actual person it’s too incompetent.

TikToks always make me think, ‘How bad could he be?’ and then the books slap me with, ‘Worse’.
DNF - 33%
It’s awfully written. Even below an amateur level.

“Rape,” he said, his voice a low growl, his grip loosening just enough for me to breathe—though his body still caged mine. “Say it again, Penelope, and I’ll do exactly that.”

This is what is supposed to swoon me ? When the FMC is begging the MMC to not to rape her and this is his reply. This is the thing that makes the MMC super hot ?? BFFR !! Did this author not think at all when she was writing this book ? No one to proofread it ?

This is my 2nd book by this author and my last. Plot is good but it’s the writing that is the issue. Everything feels so rushed and robotic… so many plot holes and things that don’t make any sense. The potential is there but the execution needs major work. This book feels very incomplete and the fact that you have to wait for the 2nd book for anything in the first book to make sense. No thanks.

book pmo

The storyline is basically just nonsensical drama and empty heartbreak over and over and over it’s repetitive and has no personality whatsoever, there’s barely any character depth in general (if there is any then it’s never inadvertently shown.) and it makes it painful to read. It’s so shallow that it reminds me of a children’s fairytale that is intentionally not complex. All it has is opposing emotions over and over with no lasting meaning. - May

Confusing

The tiktoks prompting the release of this book enticed me to download and read. The story line doesn't make sense with the characters. Biggest issue is the main male characters name. Then we have Penelope we discover her to be a meek and lacking a backbone at the beginning and then within a page or two she is a fighter no real character development. I stayed in hoping it would get better and it didn't. Then its a cliffhanger. I will never know what happens to "Italian Mafia" guy, Dmitri Volkov" I laughed writing that out.

It’s my own fault I need to learn my lesson to stop taking TikTok suggestions for books.

I was somewhat enjoying it up until chapter 7 and then all the inconsistencies just made me stop reading.

Chapter 7:
She wakes up bare foot in a green silk dress.
She runs around for a few pages
Sits down and I quote “the cold bit denim” isn’t she in a green silk dress where does the denim come into it?!?
Then one page later “her sneakers squealed against the marble” like seriously!?!

Please just be consistent and actually read what you have written or get an editor.

But another issue I have is just the unoriginality of the book and it’s not just this author it is so many authors. This book represents all of the main issues of modern day writing unfortunately.

Those 5 stars are given only because of Penelope.
She didn't deserve the shit Dmitri gave her. And fucking hell, what was that ending that left me crying ?

Honestly, i don't really know if it's AI written or not. I saw that A LOT of people didn't liked this book and some said that it was AI.

I've decided this read this book after seeing a tik tok, and i really enjoyed my reading :

1- it made me felt what Penelope was feeling. Especially when Dmitri was fatshaming her. It was as if those words were said to me, and i was as hurt as Penelope was. It was gut wrenching and even if i hated the fatshaming, the shame that you can feel, i love that everything was written, at least well written for me to feel something.

2- The potential of this story. I hope that the second book will give us a revenge Arc for Penelope. Because yeah, Dmitri is just an asshole that don't deserve her even if he's gone trough a lot.

“You don’t get to sit there and romanticize his sickness. I didn’t abandon him—he abandoned me! And now you want me to wear his madness like it’s a crown?” Tears blurred my vision, but fury drove me forward, my fists trembling at my sides. “Obsession isn’t love—it’s a noose! And if he thinks he can strangle me with it, he’ll find I’ve got sharper teeth than he ever imagined.”

“My baby is gone,” I mumbled, my voice hoarse, broken, as I staggered deeper. “My sweet little precious one is gone... my baby is gone...”

Actually baffled by what I’ve just read what in gods green earth was that book?

The Female main character had literally no backbone and cried every other page it was embarrassing to read. The male main character was disgusting I love a morally grey book boyfriend but this was just baffling. He was “obsessed” with her but spoke to her in the most disgusting way and treated her like a dog.

The plot was confusing and all over the place at best but the book was 200 pages and my mother didn’t raise a quitter so I somehow finished it and now I’m left on a cliffhanger. Will I read the next book? Absolutely NOT.

awful.

I couldn’t even finish this book - which very rarely happens. I thought it was going to be amazing based off of a TikTok I seen but the MFC had ZERO personality - everything was about her being plus-sized, and other that that, it felt like there was nothing more to her character, no character development, no real personality. Just “I snapped” over and over again, but it’s just her throwing tantrums.

The MMC also has no real personality, and no character growth.

The whole book just seemed to centre around wanting a female main character to be plus size - and brought nothing else to the table.

** I don’t have a single issue with plus sized characters, but develop it into an actual good storyline with more dialogue instead of the same stuff on repeat and very other page.

Author deleted my comment on tiktok after I mentioned how awful her mmcs are. The fatshaming, the assault.. then when she promoted her books, she used sentences and phrases that were VERY similar to the stories I saw being promoted on IG. And what do you know, that exact comment was then nowhere to be seen and deleted. I’m not surprised if people are saying her/his books are AI-generated.

Tiktok tricked me. This is horrible. And I've read some deplorable shit. This? No. Absolutely not. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. Would give it a ZERO if I could.

Ends on a cliffhanger. Will not be checking out the other books.

The entire premise of this book sounds exciting, however the execution doesn’t do the synopsis justice. That combined with the constant grammatical errors, awkward way of saying things, and inconsistency made it a really challenging read.

I’m really really confused. The second part of the blurb doesn’t match the story at all. So wtf were we even reading. I’ve read three other books by this author and they were just as confusing. I’ll read the second part of this sadly, hopefully it’s good.

Story follows Dimitri and Penelope. They were each other’s crushes when they were 15 and 19 years old. Dimitri promised to marry Penelope when she turned 25 and wouldn’t you know she turns 25 and is almost married to her pig of a finance Antonio and Dimitri crashes the wedding and says that he’ll be marrying her. Dimitri is not the same boy from ten years ago. Now he is cold and heartless towards her and plans on making her suffer for the rest of her life. For what reasons? We don’t know yet. Hopefully in book 2 we’ll get some answers.

He nearly kills her when he withholds her inhaler like it was utterly scary what happened. I think he meant to scare her but instead he literally almost killed her. He was frantic when she was unconscious and kept telling her she couldn’t die.

Also what did the note say! And was he the one texting her those horrible things at the end of she didn’t have his direct line to call him?? Plus why did he leave for four months! I wanna know what her and her family did to him because she obviously has no utter clue what is happening. And the part about her uncles raping her as a child? That came outta no where, he said he knew she was touched because of his medical knowledge like huh?

He’s an asshole as well with everything he has been putting her through. He berated her by calling her names and fat shaming her just like her ex fiancé was doing. But then he turns around and says he won’t strike her again with fat shaming her since he’s already done it twice. BUT towards the end he fat shames her again! So he basically should’ve killed himself because that’s what he said he would do to others that shamed her. He stripped her with scissors and basically gave her the impression he was going to rape her while she was bound in chains for betraying him but then as she’s crying for him to stop he turns sweet? Major mood swings dude. Make up your mind, do you hate her or love her. He goes back and forth with his words and his actions towards her, hot and cold, really confusing. I hope in the next book she kicks his ass and we get some answers.

loved from beginning to end

The writing is great. The story is great! It’s a great love story with such an amazing cliffhanger. I can relate more to the characters when I have something in common with them. In this case she’s overweight.

To be completely honest, this isn’t meant as a hate comment toward the author at all. I genuinely respect anyone who writes a book — everyone can write, but only authors take on the work of actually putting a story out into the world. That said, this book genuinely felt like a first draft rather than a fully developed novel. The writing reminded me of how I jot things down in my journal — quick, loose, and not worried about structure — and looking back, my journal might’ve had more clarity.

It often felt like the details, plotlines, and even names weren’t given the care they needed. For example, seeing “Dmitri Volkov” and “Italian Mafia” in the same sentence in the first chapter made it feel like accuracy wasn’t a priority. I tried to push through to the end because I kept hoping it would get better — but unfortunately, it didn’t.

My issue wasn’t even the grammar or spelling (though with all the AI grammar tools available now, those shouldn’t be a problem). It was the way the plotlines were written. It felt like the story was trying to include every dark romance trope all at once. The FMC ended up reading like five different characters mashed together, which made it hard to connect with her. And the arranged-marriage backstory had potential — it was actually cute — but the execution in the actual story had me cringing from the very first page.

I also saw that the author has many other books, so it would’ve been great to spread these tropes and ideas across different stories instead of forcing them all into one. BookTok hyped this up a lot, and since I haven’t read a TikTok-recommended book in years, I thought maybe things had changed. Sadly, that wasn’t the case this time.

It honestly felt like the book wasn’t written with genuine passion behind it — more like it was rushed because dark romance sells, even when the writing quality doesn’t fully hold up. The concept had potential, and the story could have been much stronger with more polishing and development.

I asked an AI to help lay out my comment to give more clarity in a respectful manner.

While I do not normally leave bad reviews, I'm going to let it be known that I tried to be a nicer person about this book and not leave a review at all. When asked about it on another social media site, I gave an honest review (quick and concise, not rude nor a dig at the author), and it was deleted by the author. Poof, up in smoke. The only reason I know it was deleted? Because apparently someone had asked for spoilers or my reasons why I did not enjoy the book. I opened the comments up in order to respond to said person, attempted to respond, only to find that I am not allowed to comment on their pages.

SO. If an author wants to block even hesitantly negative reviews on their social medias, I find this to be a problem. You don't get the good without the bad. So now, I'll leave it all.

There was no real plot line because it was so spotty. I tried and tried to to finish it and found I couldn't do it because this book held no depth to it. And there were many, many repetitive moments that made me ask myself if this was one of those pay-per-chapter books that just want more pages read in order to get more money from the customer. Once I've read a situation once, or twice, in a book? That's really all it should be. Now if it's constant trauma and triggers are alerted, that's one thing. Because it's telling you "Hey, this is happening, be warned" and all that. This was not like that.

There is no real character development. It's just -boom-this happened-boom-now they are this way-boom-he loves her!-boom- She was a weak character, suddenly strong. He's a mean, crude man who supposedly hates and demeans her. Nothing. There's no depth, and it's purely a money grab to try and be like "he will change later".

Aside from that, the writing itself was not as up to par as I enjoy. That though, is a personal opinion as I read a LOT of books and if it comes down to me not enjoying it most of the way through? I'm done with it.

Dark Obsession had potential, but the execution completely missed the mark—mostly because of the FMC. Her constant spiraling doesn’t come across as depth; it’s repetitive, immature, and exhausting.

What truly makes the character unbelievable is her inconsistency. She refuses to give the benefit of the doubt when it actually matters, constantly assuming the worst yet the moment her father shows up, she suddenly flips her entire perspective with zero internal conflict or critical thinking. One conversation and everything changes? Make it make sense. It reads less like character development and more like plot convenience.

Dark romance can work with morally gray dynamics, but it still requires a protagonist who can think, adapt, or grow. Here, the FMC does none of that, turning what could have been tension into pure frustration.

Concept: promising. Execution: disappointing. Rage-inducing FMC.

I line nothing about this book. The fact that the trigger warnings said nothing about rape . Spoiler alert ⚠️ she was raped when she was young , she didn't know , which is all kinds of fucked up. The MC threatening to rape her, sexually assaulted her , did I mention she was bound against her will?

Let's not even get into get into the plot holes. How does the ex-fiance keep showing up so close like how ?? Where are all the guards? I thought this was his city ??
I hope that she actually makes his grovel , sincerely for it cause ain't no way the fat shaming was okay just cause he did it cause he loves and hates her. This book has me heated 😤 I'm not even sure I can stomach the second book . The tiktok doesn't even tell you the truth that she makes him grovel in this book. This is far far from the truth.

Holy crap. I didn't like this book but I got intrigued by the author's posts on tiktok. Planned to DNF it not even halfway through but decided to finish the book the whole way to justify the hate and ick for the writing and blatant use of AI. Like, damn. The word "obsession" was used 46 times throughout the book. It felt like every other paragraph tbh. The book reads like those chinese novel things that get translated horribly to english and has endless chapters just to hook readers, but it's all a bunch of "he' a monster, I can't believe he's the sweet boy I fell in love with and gave me ribbons and cared for me; his eyes were dark/flickered with obsession" yada yada yada. Yeezuz christ. If I could rate this less than 1 star I would.

The worst FMC ever, she has a weak personality, she's like a child most of the time, she isn't strong, and a lot of other things this had potential but I feel like she ruined the book. The MMC was good but there are some things about him made me want to just kick him or punch him which what we love but both of then specially him, don't communicate at all this whole book was:
-He is not the 15 year old boy that I know "she pretty much says it in every chapter"
-they keep playing her and she doesn't do anything about it.
-she acts like a child most of the time.
And more but will more than what I did.

+ it ends in cliffhanger but I wanted to DNF the book but didn't so I will not continue with the series.

Okay, I liked the idea of the childhood couple who now have to start over and the broken young man who carries many secrets and sins with him.

I also like the idea that Penelope has no idea what's going on and why he hates her so much; that definitely made me curious about the next part.

What I didn't like at all was the body shaming, but I guess that's part of the storyline and will be "punished" later, even though I found it unpleasant to read.
I also found Dmitri's constant switching between "I hate you" and "you are everything to me" very confusing, and in general, everything went a little too fast for me.

Overall, however, I find it exciting and an absolutely good book for in between, and I will read the second part soon.

This was by far the worst book I’ve ever read. The MMC was unbearable ~ manipulative, cruel, and emotionally abusive. The FMC wasn’t much better; she came across as naïve and insecure, constantly jealous of other women yet still desperate for his love despite everything he put her through. The dynamic between them was toxic from start to finish. I honestly can’t believe I pushed myself to finish this. Absolutely horrible. I definitely won’t be reading the next book. I don’t care about his so-called “redemption” ~ no amount of groveling could make this okay.

Am I a dark romance girlie? YES
Do I have boundaries? .... No comment
I literally screamed "OMG THAT IS SO SWEET" while ...., yk. Well, you probably won't know unless you read the book and I'll never admit anything, so yeah you don't know haha.

The book was very... interesting. Read the trigger warning, definitely! I did read it, but it still kinda shocked me. I was used to books like haunted adeline and books of Neva Altaj, but idk, something in this book rubbed me the wrong way. I'd say, try it for yourself, 'cuz maybe it's just me! Read it in one sitting tho, so it's not THAT bad.
