I liked the different classes in this omegaverse, and all the high stakes from the city energy threats. This has an alpha omega mm romance, from a one night stand heat/rut, into a high codependency relationship and unexpected mate bond.
The government manipulates their bond and tries to use them as weapons, but the powerful enigma alpha will burn the world for his omega.

Boy howdy, do I have things to say about this one! And they’re not nice. So let’s go!
This is Guideverse x Omegaverse with mpreg. Never heard of Guideverse before and I’m not a fan. Omegaverse? Yes, please! So that’s why I picked this up. Alas, I’ve got regrets.
So…we’ve got Jorak who is basically a ball of purple-y, black energy and is classified as an S-class Esper and an Enigma. Translated to regular-people-speak that means he’s the highest level energy ball and a level above Alpha. So real prickly and real growly. Oh! and with bright orange hair. We love. He’s a government-controlled weapon/energy dude.
Then we’ve also got Asa who is a professor of ~*math stuff*~ and is classified as an F-class Guide and Omega. Translated as the lowest level energy conduit for Espers (meaning he’s basically useless and can’t conduct much energy.)
Moving on to the broad strokes of the story - be ready to be confused!
So the lowdown on this is that it’s a high-stakes game of Whack-A-Mole but with energy. There are conduits all over the city that sort of bubble over with energy every once in a while. Dunno why. They just do! Jorak is deployed to neutralize them and save all of the plebes. Turns out, Asa is his missing part of the equation (did you see my math pun? ;D) and makes his neutralization more efficient. I guess?
So then! The Big Bad, Mercer, tries to harness Asa for his own shenanigans and Jorak doesn’t appreciate this so he fights for his mate and throws off the shackles of the government (as many of us wish to do \m/ ) and then they’ve got some voltage wars and Asa gets pregnant and the city is saved.
I mean, that’s the basics, ya’ll. I missed some things and spaced out at other times because this author frames things as mathematical equations and ‘design theory’ with numbers and I’m an English Major. I’ve never passed a math class in my life. I graduated college after barely passing ‘Math for Art Majors’ bc I failed Algebra so many times. So I really don’t appreciate ~*math stuff*~ being forced into my Omegaverse smut novels, for the record.
Anyway, Asa passes out ALL THE TIME, like a concerning number of times for a pregnant guy, and we are reminded no less than 24 times that Jorak smells of ‘dark cedar and whiskey.’ So many times, in fact, that I started getting AI vibes? Maybe so? Maybe no? I cannot say but it was 23 times too many.
So much happened and yet none of it made much sense.
I’m done - this was the equivalent of that molded Jell-O dessert your Great-Grandma used to make with the fruit bits suspended in it. It looks interesting but the taste and texture is enough to turn ya vegan.

Going against the grain here perhaps but I ended up disappointed. Really strong opening chapters, but the second half fell off for me. The interesting premise (new to Guideverse!) kept me going but I just felt the book lost polish, and it was poorly edited towards the end.
Asa at one point refers to Jorak by the name of the thing Asa is revealed to be. Every paragraph feels like it follows the same format of negative sentence followed by positive sentence. Lots of repetition.
Just didn't hit the mark for me.

Okay, I honestly was very shocked by my opinion of this book.
I've been reading omegaverse for a long time, and as well as guideverse, although this is the only guideverse novel that I've read, but I dearly love both of these genres. I've also only read one series of N.Slater (The Always Yours series -the first 3/5, and I am planning on the last 2) at the end of last year, so I have a limited idea as to their writing style. And I genuinely loved that series., it felt like The Always Yours series and this book were written by completely different authors.
In an overview of my thoughts, I felt like the characters were pretty one dimensional and contradictory towards themselves, the big plot twist reveal was more anti-climactic than anything, and the pacing of information was all over the place to where it felt like this book wasn't written in the order it was presented in but it wasn't polished to mend the
Cracks that could create.
To expand on that brief overview, the book to me felt a bit... soulless. For the romance plot, Jorak was a government owned S-Class (aka, cream of the crop) Enigma that one night wanted a piece of freedom. He found that freedom in an Omega F-class (aka, bottom of the barrel) Guide named Asa. They grow an attachment to each other, the government wants to use Asa as a means to control Jorak neither likes it, and they fight back against it. For the story plot the government is using Jorak to "help" the city by stopping these cores from exploding, but plot twist, your not actually saving the city, were were using you for our own selfish plan, but ah, love won in the end.
I feel like that's a pretty typical romance story, and usually I would have no problem with this at all. But the characters were just so... One dimensional and contradictory. Jorak was I can't stand being away from my Omega, yet was always staying away for "protecting" Asa. Asa was complaining about how much it hurt to have the government overlook him because of his low ranking there was never really a reason as to like, how his life would be better otherwise. I do get that the idea was supposed to be more like, "I knew there was more to me, I just didn't have the title/label/knowledge to prove it), but with that being said... without knowing that, being a recognized as an LOW RANK GUIDE wouldn't have put him in any higher standing in life than his current professor gig, so it felt like he was complaining for the sake of it. Not to mention, it feels like they are literally"arguing " about the same thing in the WHOLE book, every chapter. Also, the way they find out all the information about the TRUE plans of the government felt just thrown together for convenience of plot. And lastly, the pacing and writing did not feel coherent. I felt like I got repetitive information too close together. I get that sometimes it's to remind readers things that they may have forgotten from the beginning, but I'm talking this plot point was revealed x chapter, and I will never be able to forget because they bring it up (almost verbatim) for the next 3 consecutive chapters. And sometimes, it felt like the characters were relearning whatever was said, as if they were just told the previous chapter. I think it mostly happened when the characters were trying to plan for whatever they were doing, but that made it feel like filler sections to beef up the book.
Overall, this book felt Scotch taped together to me. Most of the plot felt undercooked, and while truly did see that there was at least a thought for what was probably intended, I feel like it didn't really payout.

Okay… Asa and Jorak? I absolutely love them!
I really enjoyed this different take on Omegaverse. It’s darker than what we’re used to from N. Slater, and I loved every second of it. The world-building, the different classes, the chemistry, and the darker atmosphere made this feel fresh while still delivering everything I love about her writing.
And Jorak? Whew. 🔥 He’s already become one of my favorites, especially when his protective side comes out. Those moments with Asa had me completely hooked.
N. Slater never fails to pull me into her stories, and this book was no exception. I’m completely invested in this world and these characters, and I already can’t wait for the next book. If you love a darker, unique Omegaverse with amazing chemistry and unforgettable characters, this one is definitely worth picking up!

Gah! Loved this!!
This was such an engaging read! And it's so very excellent, especially for an omegaverse story.
I really enjoyed the crossover with guideverse because it gave some added depth to the omegaverse dynamic. It just gave it some purpose beyond secondary gender.
Delicious spice and the omega is not sassy or sweet, which are such overused character traits for omegas. He's just a really intelligent man who knows himself. He's capable and doesn't allow himself to be sidelined by the usual protection trope associated with most alphas in omegaverse stories.
Overall, I really adored this story. Very sci-fantasy/sci-magic feel to the world and setting, which was a fun choice imho, great romance, and real plot.

Asa and Jorak, should not be compatible, but they are extremely so. Jorak is an extremely powerful Enigma and Asa is a class F guide. These two get together when Asa goes into heat. i had no idea!!!!
Not my first omegaverse, but definitely my first guideverse read and i had no idea what i was in store for. Asa and Jorak gave me so much. There was action, there was passion, there was heat. The possessiveness. And of course, THE NESTING!!! 6⭐️ read for sure.

I thought this was a very intriguing story. This was my introduction to the guideverse and N. Slater definitely made this story interesting enough for me to want to read more. I highly recommend!

Review:
OK, the first half, absolutely love! I was hooked and so invested. The plot felt a bit confusing, but I think I understand what was happening. I love Jorak and Asa together. Their journey of falling in love was not easy, but they were always there for each other deep down. However, the second half became plot-heavy, and it felt a little off; still intriguing but off. There were arguments where I just didn’t know what was going on, then it was done. There was this big realization moment, and I was like, “We knew that 75 pages ago.” And Jorak kept saying this one threatening line over and over again but didn’t do anything about it, except maybe once or twice. But by the end, I was still interested, and I want to read more to see what happens next! Overall, I’d still recommend it; I did love it overall, like part of me wants to give it a 5-star just for the vibes.
