The NYPD is still picking up the pieces after the events that shook the city in Beneath the Shield. Detective Jack Douglas has been pushing forward—closing cases, chasing leads, and trying to leave the past behind.
But Eden Estates won’t let him.
What starts as a routine gang takedown quickly unravels into something darker. A killer is moving in the shadows, striking without pattern, without mercy—and always just out of reach. As fear grips the neighborhood, Jack and his partner, Detective Andrea Paterno, find themselves trapped between political pressure from above and a predator who thrives on staying unseen.
Every lead is a dead end. Every mistake costs a life. And in a place where everyone’s watching, the killer may have been closer than they ever imagined.

A riveting story from beginning to end. As expected, Jack figures out the problem, doggedly pursuing the perp, and finally getting his man in the end. A few red herrings are added to stir the pot and keep things interesting. A great series indeed.
