In 2025, I stumbled upon a book that I decided to save on my shelf for later reading, Plastic Burlesque. However, once I finally started reading it, I found myself unable to put it down. The characters, especially Cy, were incredibly captivating, and I felt an immediate connection to their journey. One particular scene involving the Lipocopters was truly epic—I was so engrossed in the story that I nearly fell off my bed in surprise.
The action sequences throughout the book kept me hooked from beginning to end, leaving me eagerly anticipating what would happen next. And just when I thought the story couldn’t get any better, there was an amazing and well-guarded twist at the end that left me completely satisfied. I must commend Iwan Ross on his exceptional storytelling skills—I am truly his biggest fan. In fact, I’m about to embark on my second read of the book, and I’m so enamored with it that I’ve even ordered a print edition, solely for the sake of cherishing the beautiful cover.
The action sequences throughout the book kept me hooked from beginning to end, leaving me eagerly anticipating what would happen next. And just when I thought the story couldn’t get any better, there was an amazing and well-guarded twist at the end that left me completely satisfied. ‘Plastic Burlesque, a novel in the genre of Young Adult Dystopian Fiction, is a wild ride navigated by Cy in the aftermath of the Solar Outage. As a result of this phenomenon, there is a great societal divide between the sharply contrasted Haves and Have-Nots: the elite, decadent metropolis of Utopia vs. the struggling inhabitants of a deteriorating Suburbia.
Motivated by love and vengeance, Cy and his sidekick, Solomon, guided by the underground Plastic Burlesque rebels, rely on wit and determination to decimate the Utopian oppressors on their turf.
From beginning to end, the reader embarks on an electrifying ride honed by the author’s plausible sci-fi gadgetry and the characters’ harrowing escapes at every turn. His vivid, sensory details enable the reader to become an omniscient viewer.
Facades are stripped bare. Security is an illusion. Alliances shift.
I highly recommend ‘Plastic Burlesque’ for its ability to keep the reader on high alert.
