''The Baron’s Reluctant Bride'' is an enchanting Historical Regency romance, around 70,000 words and offering a captivating read.
No cheating, no cliffhangers, and a guaranteed happily-ever-after. If you love Regency and Victorian-era romance, this novel is for you.
The plot had the potential for a very good story..however I didn't love all the excessive wording...it made it hard to follow what was actually going on and being discussed between them..too many adjectives and descriptions of rooms and clothing.. At the ending quite a few times paragraphs were completely repeated. And more than once throughout, the characters were confused with each other. Christopher used instead of William ..him used again as brother to Jameson when it should have been William for Gemma..not to mention he was brought home after being shot, Jameson could barely speak from exhaustion from blood loss plus pain while being rescued and the carriage ride home but yet, was able to speak at length romantically of his love for his wife..while still standing..just ridiculous in my opinion..I don't know who proofread thru this but they should not have a job. Too many mistakes but otherwise I enjoyed it
Gemma Sinclair has always tried to be sure her reputation was spotless. However being caught alone with one of the most rakish baron's of the Ton, what can she do? Her brother, William has almost gambled all the money their father left and his debts are more than he can pay. Gemma and William are caught in something that neither have much choices is what is offered to them. Gemma is offered marriage by the wealthy rake, Baron Jameson Brookfield. She accepts not sure what her life will be like. Her brother is offered the chance to reduce his debt if he provides certain information on other members of the Ton and the business deals. This story has suspense, lots of people playing games and will hold your attention to the end.
I enjoyed the fresh take on a Victorian romance, however, the editing had a lot to be desired. There were quite a few times where the relationships were confusing: his mother or aunt? Her brother or, one time, brother-in-law? The descriptions of balls changed within several paragraphs; and in several instances, the same scene was retold in the next paragraph. The descriptions of the matters of the heart kept repeating throughout the book as well. However, I did finally make it through the book, glad to hear the Gemma and Jameson had their happily ever after. No spoiler here, that’s how romance novels end :)
Duke Jameson & Mr Thorne both have caught the eye of Lady Gemma at one of the balls. But it’s not for any particular reason but her brother, William, & his gambling debts. One is hoping for secrets & the other hopeful that’s not the case. But blackmail is another story. And Lady Gemma is to be wed & she’s not going to give an inch. Then everything breaks loose.
This book is more than a romance of two people. It also heavily involves the heroine’s brother who has heavy gambling debts and is being blackmailed. There is lively banter between the two main characters who have been forced into a marriage. They do make a good team as they track down the real villains.
I loved the story and the characters. However, I was constantly upset by the last chapters by the writer (who was obviously not the real author) completely mixing up the characters. Whoever was writing this was not familiar with the characters. And the extended ending was completely bazaar! Better be careful selecting new people to finish up.
An enjoyable Regency romance with scandal and intrigue. It always amazes me how Society during the Regency era viewed certain happenings as scandalous and how easily it could cause ruin to a woman and her family; perceived or not. Loved the character development and how the story was brilliantly woven to bring the reader into the story. Highly recommend.
Really enjoyed this bcook. The writer give you quick exchanges that ha e you pulling for you favorite. Character. The known villain lets you pull e end harder for his over throw.
Good story, but too many editing errors: misnaming characters, unclear timelines, background details that don't match, character mentioned at beginning of scene but forgotten but needed by end of scene. Much better editing needed.
Clean afternoon adventure. This one has a bit more drama than most but good plot and characters. Married in haste but all well in the end. Some scandal, betrayal, gambling, plots to ruin, secret investigation and counter measures, shooting..good read
The story was good though I noticed some problems. The female protagonist hair changed from light to dark at least twice. And the extended epilogue appears to be another version of the story.
Another good and quick read from Amanda Mariel. Thanks, Booksprout! I really enjoyed reading Gemma and James' story full of love and adventure unfold. They were great characters ♥
