Lysshae is Heir to the throne, Na’Elya one of the elite who guards her. Though friends since childhood, neither expects there can be anything more than friendship between them, despite the calling of their hearts.
But Destiny is not always concerned for the niceties of social strata. When Lysshae defies her father to pursue a sacred VisionWalk and Na’Elya follows after, they set in motion the wheels of the Seventh Generation Prophecy and the schemes of those who would support it and those who would thwart it.
Before the end, they will face Old Ones and Guardians; their fondest hopes and deepest fears; and the threat of untimely, unnatural death. For the fate of the Kingdom they both love is more precarious than they could ever imagine.
I took quite a long time to finish reading this novel. I enjoyed it but there are too many perils in VisionWalker. I felt the noose positioned overhead as the horrible conspirators converge. I completed the story to about 75% and then took it off my Kindle Unlimited list. When I went back to finish reading, it was gone.
I was pleased when it came back and I "finished" the book. Yes, oh yes, it is a cliffhanger. The two main characters have been separated. One held prisoner by the most abhorrent of villains. The other broken, despairing and out foxed. Even their otherworldly benefactors are stumbling or lost. The picture is bleaker than bleak. The End.
Despite my frustration, I believe that this is a good novel by an even better novelist. The story is inventive and the characters are well developed. I would gladly read the sequel and not just to discover the real ending. I like the heroic lesbian couple and their spiritual counterparts. I would happily cheer the defeat of those that stand in their way. I fear that I will never get the chance.
