The Summoning Spell: A Spicy Halloween Romance Novella

Rate this book
Accidental hex. Tattooed demon.

Blair just wanted to curse her ex.
Instead, she got Ashar, a possessive, cinnamon-roll demon who sometimes has claws, tattoos, and a touch her and die energy that makes it way too easy to forget she swore off relationships.

Now he’s living in her apartment, making her breakfast like a domestic dream, when he’s not reminding her exactly why summoning him might be the best mistake she’s ever made.

The problem? The magic won’t last forever.
And when it fades, she might lose the only man, er, demon, who’s ever made her feel truly seen.

Perfect for fans of Neon Gods, A Witch’s Guide to Fake Dating a Demon, and That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon, this spicy, heart-wrenching, laugh-out-loud novella is for anyone who's ever wondered what might happen if your coping mechanism accidentally gave you everything you never knew you deserved.

Have abandonment issues? This book is for you then. The FMC is relatable to me, as someone with abandonment issues 🙃🤣

Okay… holy spiceeeee🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ totally loved the spice to story ratio though. It also made complete sense with the book story. Super super easy read. It’s written well, and I loved it so much. It’s like a cozy little fall/halloween read with a lot of spice 🤣🫶🏻

Ohhhh… and perfect HEA ending. I may need to go read the next book from the bonus section. If it’s not a book written yet, then I’ll be first in line to buy 🤣🫶🏻

The Summoning Spell is a fast-paced, spicy, and hilarious novella that hooked me from the very first page. It follows Blair, who struggles with abandonment issues and a fear of commitment, only to accidentally summon a demon with the ultimate cinnamon-roll personality (with just enough touch-her-and-you’re-unalived energy to keep things deliciously intense).

The banter between Blair and the demon had me grinning nonstop, and the chemistry was chef’s kiss. It’s the perfect mix of humor, spice, and heart—all packed into a super quick read. I devoured it in one sitting and loved every second.

If you’re looking for a novella that’s witty, steamy, and leaves you wanting more, this one’s a must-read.

Fun Halloween novella that had cute epilogues. I didn’t love the h though so it made it hard to really connect to her emotions and their romance then.

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Honestly, when I first started reading this book, I had no idea it would hit me so hard! It was IN THE BEST WAY!!! I was practically crying the whole time. Seriously, how do you write something so steamy and still make my heart ache at the same time? And it’s a novella! This was so beautifully written. I was aching when Blair and Ashar were fighting with themselves. I was crying when Blair was getting in her own way. I mean, how often do we be our own worst critics? I totally relate to Blair! All she wanted was someone to choose her! I remember having those exact feelings!

The chemistry between Ashar and Blair was so raw and real. I loved how he didn’t rush with her. How their intimacy wasn’t all about pounding away but about control, deep, passionate, real, devastating, and all that jazz. Blair was seen. She was handled with care. I really loved that.

I’m really hoping we get to see more of Maya! I’m also cheering her on, and I’m crossing my fingers she finds her own happily ever after! 🥹❤️

Cute, fun read with a sweet MFC that is way too relatable for a lot of us, particularly those who feel like second choices or that we’re never chosen enough for someone to stay. I got more than I expected with this read, especially when I got so attached with and related to the characters, I started crying alongside them with the twists and turns that the story held. Sweet story that I’ll be reading again, because it is not only cute, but has deep undercurrents of the process of healing and coming into yourself and your belief that you are worthy. P.S. You ARE!

This book started off with top-tier sarcastic witch energy and quickly changed into something so spicy I considered casting a cooling charm on my Kindle. Still enjoyed overall though and will definitely read more from Kate Rozy.

ARC reader for this book. There is some spice, sex demons, blasphemy, stereotypes, and a happy ending for Blair, the FMC. It was an easy quick read - perfect for this time of year. 👻 🎃 📚

I read this series a bit out of order. I had been an ARC reader for Kate Rozy for books 2 to 4 of the Glitch Series and just knew I needed to read Blair and Ashar's story where it all began.

Definitely a cute rom-com with witchy vibes. A fun. quick read but definitely not lacking in spice or plot. Definitely recommend along with the rest of the series.

*can be read as a standalone

ARC Review
I was fortunate enough to be chosen as an ARC reader for this book.
Boy oh boy let me tell you, the spice was 10/10! At first I wasn’t sure how to feel about this book because I’m used to reading first person POV, this was something different and as I reached chapter 2 of the book I didn’t really mind it.
Blair is such a baddie for summoning Ashar it was giving charmed vibes. At first I was feeling bad for Blair because of the jackass talking about some he’s gonna ask a girl to be his girlfriend right after having sex with Blair, I was like bruhhh you can’t be serious.
Relationships and love is hard even when it shouldn’t be, I understood the fear and always feeling like you’re someone’s second choice. Knowing that someone will choose another person over you really drops your self esteem. I loved how Ashar immediately made her feel something that wasn’t just sexual. I love how at the end Blair gave up her fears and chose Ashar and chose to be happy and to be loved instead of holding onto that fear that she’s not supposed to come first that she’ll always come after someone else.

Now onto the spice!
Ashar Sirrrrr!! Come to the front please right now! This man PLEASED her with his SPLIT TONGUE, let me say that again, HE PLEASED HER WITH HIS SPLIT TONGUE! The way I imagined that ohhhh myyyy it was over for me, I nearly passed out, I nearly cried because I wasn’t Blair at that moment! It was the way she gasped when she realized and the way he knew exactly how she felt about it.
The smut was absolutely delicious as fuck! FYI def a one handed read for sure!

All in all I give this book a 4.5/5, would definitely recommend! It’s a short smutty story, only took me a day to finish it.

This was a short spooky read with a touch of spice, and I really enjoyed it. It was a quick, fun escape that pulled me into its Halloweeny vibes right away.

I really liked Blair’s character. Her struggles with heartbreak and wanting more out of her love life made her incredibly relatable. And Ashar? He was pure fantasy. Protective, loving, and devoted to Blair in a way that made me swoon, even though he’s a demon. Their chemistry was a highlight of the story and those spicy moments added just the right kick.

While I loved the premise the story felt a little too short and I wanted more development, especially in the world building and pacing. Still, it left me intrigued and eager for more.

🎬 Final Thoughts 💀

🌶️ Spice 3/5🌶️

The Summoning Spell is a light, spooky spicy romance that makes for a great quick read. It’s perfect if you’re looking for something fun and flirty with a supernatural twist. I can’t wait to read the next book and see Maya’s story unfold!

I genuinely adored this novella!

Blair has had nothing but awful luck with men… utter losers who sleep with her and ghost her, leaving her convinced she’s either “too much” or “not enough.” Lonely and fed up, she summons herself a pleasure demon.
Yep… you read that right, a literal demon whose sole mission is to make sure she gets every ounce of happiness and satisfaction she’s been denied. And once that need is fulfilled? He disappears…

This book was cute, laugh out loud funny, spicy, and just entirely entertaining to read from start to finish. I’m so excited for the next two books in the series and so glad I stumbled onto this author by chance! I hope she keeps writing because I’ll be grabbing everything she releases!

Definitely a 5 star read and a 5 jalapenos. A hot sexy demon um yes please. Blair wants to be loved and chosen for once. She wants to feel needed and wanted. She summons a demon because she wanted to curse her ex who didn't choose her. She meant nothing to him. A hot tattoo possessive demon shows up instead and holy hotness I wish I could summon a demon! He is the touch her and die type of man. He is the perfect demon book boyfriend with horns, claws and a split tongue. You will have to read to know more about that. It is a race against time as the magic wont last forever. Blair and Asher are the perfect pair in this steamy hot holiday read. It was perfectly written.

*2.25 stars*

I loved the beginning of this, and I loved how we worked on the heroine's abandonment issues. It was so sweet! But I had a hard time connecting with the writing, and there were huge dialogues between the MC's that were super redundant, to the point where I flipped back to see if I was really re-reading pages by mistake. There were also some grammar/syntax errors in places that peeved me off lol.

I really wanted to learn more about our main characters and how they would fit into each other's lives! I know this is smut, but I was still hoping for some more development. I was shocked at the outcome in the epilogue since that was....days later???

ARC review, freely and very happily written.

When this is the dedication,

“To my mom, who asked if it needed that many sex scenes.
The answer was yes, sorry.

To Blade, thank you for saving me from having to conjure my own demon.

And to every woman, man, they/them who has ever had to suffer from terrible sex that made you want to hex them. I feel you, and Ashar is here to help.”

You better believe this is going to be a great book. Such a perfect, cute novella to help usher in spooky season! I can’t wait to read the next one 🤩

*2.5 stars* I only vaguely remember requesting this eARC and I am not a romance girly so I don’t know why I wanted to read this one lol. Probably because it was witchy and Halloweeny which is my vibe. I did like the overall theme and how Blair learned about herself. The spicy scenes were also good haha, just not what I typically read at all.

So while it may not be the novella for me, don’t shy away from it if you’re into the spice. Just like Blair, I learned something about myself from this read 😅

This was such a fun read by a new-to-me author. With fab world building, tons of emotions and plenty of hot spice, it was a page turner. If you're looking for a sweet and steamy Halloween romance, this one fits the bill, wonderfully. When Blair accidentally summons Ashar, she ends up with way more than she bargained for. He's got the perfect amount of obsession to have me wishing for my own demon ;P I will admit to giggling away, or fanning myself a lot, as I followed Blair to her happy ending. So good and now I'm waiting for the next book to see how Maya's story unfolds. Good fun!

Summoning Spell by Kate Rozy

Loved this short story! This was fast paced and spicy and I loved the gothic, witchy storyline and the two main characters! This was also I nice change from any heavier books I’ve read recently and I found myself enjoying the lighter side of things. I love that the main theme of this book was that there’s somebody for everyone and even if you think you’ll always be chose last you won’t be! I’ll be reading the rest of these short stories in this series by this fantastic indie author!

This was such a fun and quick paranormal romance! I loved the humor, the cozy Halloween vibes, and the demon MMC was way sweeter than I expected. The chemistry was definitely there, and the story kept me entertained from start to finish. The only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars it’s because the main characters fell in love in a night, which felt a little rushed for my taste. Still, it was a cute, spicy, and enjoyable read that I’d recommend if you’re in the mood for something light and magical.

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

This book took my breath away and had me weak in the knees 🩷 Blair's story is for anyone that has ever been made to feel like they were too much or not enough in a relationship.

For a short and sweet novella, it had me in all of my feels and I ached for unspoken love that Blair held in. The humor along the way had me laughing out loud and wanting more until the very sweet end.

4 ⭐️, 2 🌶️ Definitely different then my usual reading but a nice change. An interesting twist to a holiday rom-com. Short, a little spicy, & a whole lot quirky. Cute book to kickoff spooky season.
📚I did receive an advance copy for free at my request after seeing the blurb for it. All my reviews are made voluntarily & are my honest thoughts/opinions.📚

This was almost too fast paced to appreciate. Girl gets dumped, tries to curse her ex, instead summons a demon. Said demon fvcks her seven ways from Sunday. She catches feelings (because who wouldn’t when he’s slinging them good-goods?), so obviously she’s got to release him.

I guess it was fun…🤷🏻‍♀️

The Summoning Spell is a quick, fun, and spicy fall read! It took me just over an hour from start to finish. It has a good sense of humor (although a little heavy on the TikTok references), and it doesn't drag the story out longer than it needs to be. It fully embraces the crazy, wild, supernatural aspect and was enjoyable start to finish!

The magic was a little convoluted is the best word I can think of. The demon can only stay till the need is met but then all of a sudden she changed the rules by choosing. Maybe I just wasn’t paying enough attention but that part of the book was rather confusing. Also insta love. I get it’s a novella but sometimes the writing can overcome that for me. This one did not.

predictable but still enjoyable

If you eat a burger you know what it'll taste like doesn't mean you don't enjoy it and that's what this book is. It's what it's described as a quick fun journey that develops the FMC just enough you care about her but won't agonise over it for days. While very predictable still a ton of fun

I received this ARC from Kate a few weeks ago! This is a quick read, with lots of spice, and paranormal romance.
The main character, Blair, is going through a rough time in the love department, when she gets drunk and has a TikTok led séance… what could possibly go wrong? 😈

Unexpected

This short story was so good. While it's definitely a Halloween vibe, and the spice do be spicing, there's some good seed about love and choice in here that I wasn't expecting.
