A very straight forward story and the twists didn’t surprise me but nevertheless it was entertaining. It was fast-paced with short chapters that keep will keep you on the edge of your seat.

When Imogene and her husband move to the countryside it was supposed to be their fresh start. But from the moment they arrived,things started to feel off. The locals are strange, and is Imogene being watched? Then someone breaks into their home, and Imogene starts to see things. Is she being driven to the edge, or losing her mind? Is there any real danger? Or is it her past haunting her?

I thought I had it figured out but I was wrong! It has a creepy vibe happening and kind of spooky at times. It was a quick read and very entertaining. A solid read that earned a 4 star review from me. I would definitely recommend this book to others.

Imogen and Patrick just moved from London to the middle of nowhere, where the nearest town is four miles away. She’s a painter and he’s a lawyer, and they want to start a family together. Patrick has an adult daughter from his first marriage, Prim, who hates Imogen because she and Patrick were having an affair when he was still married to Prim’s mom, Arabella. Getting out of the city and escaping that mess of a situation seemed like the perfect idea…until they moved in.

Immediately, creepy things start happening. There are dead animals everywhere (not just the ones that were taxidermied by the previous owner), Imogen was almost hit by a car and she feels like someone is watching her. The people who live in this tiny area of cottages all seem very strange; when Imogen goes to town, weird things seem to always happen. There is a group of kids who are constantly causing trouble with vandalism and arson. The only person who seems halfway normal is her new neighbor, Maureen. Despite her being a quirky old woman, she’s the only person Imogen has, as her husband is often in London for work. The two women become friends as things go from strange to dangerous…

This was a really enjoyable read, and I was very happy with the ending. It started going down a path that I see in a lot of thrillers, and that path sometimes comes off as an easy to way to explain things and conclude a story. I was like here we go again…then everything flipped and I realized I had it all wrong! The end of the book is quite a shocker, with no clichés or tired formulas. I was going to give this four stars, rounded up from 3.5, but now it’s getting four stars, rounded down from 4.5. That ending made all the difference.

I am a bit torn as a write this review for THE SILENT HOUSE by H. M. Lynn. It definitely has positives going in its favor, including short chapters enhancing the suspense, making for a very quick read. Admittedly, it was very difficult for me to put the book down with its fast pace. And along the vein of books with potential unreliable narrators, it absolutely kept me guessing throughout, which is always a good thing.

We are introduced to Imogen, our protagonist, who moves to a countryside retreat with her husband, Patrick. Both have plenty of baggage and are hoping for a fresh start as a newly married couple. Where the book fell a bit short for me was not having enough character development for our mains, and not including more of Imogen’s backstory. Therefore, I never truly connected with her or any of the characters. Imogen, in fact, was quite unlikable and therefore hard to sympathize with in many instances—at least for me.

And regarding the ending, it felt a tad rushed in my opinion. I would have liked more in terms of dialogue, confrontation, and resolution. Would I recommend it though? Yes!! All things considered, it is a fast-paced thriller that definitely kept me engaged and quickly turning the pages. I enjoyed it overall, making it perfect for an entertaining summer read.

I really enjoyed The Silent House! It was super twisty, pulling you in slowly but keeps you guessing the whole way through. The atmosphere is really eerie—in the best way—and the creepy house vibe was spot-on.

I love a story where the main character slowly unravels and is made to feel like they’re on the verge of a psychotic break, and this one did not disappoint! The FMC was easy to root for, and I liked how the story balanced spooky moments with deeper emotional topics. It’s not just about possible ghosts; there’s a lot going on under the surface.

I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because a few side characters felt kind of flat, and there were moments where I wanted a bit more explanation. But overall, it’s a solid read if you’re into suspense with a supernatural edge.

I was hooked from the start! I loved how the end of each chapter made you want to keep on reading, the twists and turns throughout constantly had me second guessing, and the fact it made you believe that Imogen could have been the problem and everything that went on whilst in the new house was all false??? Loved it!! Would definitely recommend.

City Dwellers, Welcome to the Countryside!

Imogen moves to the countryside with Patrick, hoping for a fresh start. However, upon arrival, she senses something is wrong—strange locals, an unsettling atmosphere, and shadows outside their home lead her to feel constantly watched. After a break-in, she becomes increasingly paranoid, questioning her sanity as she feels more isolated. What was meant to be a peaceful haven turns into a prison, with the true threat possibly lurking closer than she realizes.

I know, it sounds a bit odd, but the cover of this book practically screamed at me to pick it up, and I simply couldn’t resist. Once I started reading, it was nearly impossible to put down!

Now, let’s talk about the main character. Imogen had her moments of being a tad whiny, but given everything she went through, I was willing to cut her some slack. However, there were times when Patrick made her feel downright crazy and hormonal, and I found myself wishing I could reach into the pages and give him a good shake! Seriously, there were moments when I thought, “Imogen, come on! Grow a backbone, girl!” At one point, she was blaming nearly everyone for the chaos unfolding around her, and I could only imagine how that must have looked to the other characters—and to the readers, for that matter.

The author did a fantastic job of painting bizarre occurrences with vivid detail, and the secluded setting added an extra layer of creepiness that was just perfect. It was all fittingly eerie and well-executed.

As for the ending? It was as spunky as the rest of the book and far less predictable than I anticipated. I found myself guessing right up until the last moment, and when the main twist hit? Let’s just say it was a mind-blowing tornado of emotions!

If you enjoy piecing together whodunits, predicting outcomes, and believe that the past has a way of haunting us, then this book is the ideal pre-Halloween read. It’s delightfully creepy, perfectly suited for those early evenings when strange things seem to happen around the house. Give it a shot and let me know what you think!

I love myself a good psychological thriller. A lot of them are the perfect length to get you absorbed into the story and have it all wrapped up by the end.

I really enjoyed The Silent House, it hooked me in from the first page. Every chapter finished on some sort of cliffhanger that sucked you right into the next one. The length of the chapters were no more than 10 minutes at my reading speed, which made progressing through this book easy.

The FMC’s name is Imogen, which made me super giddy as an Empyrean fan. There are many hints to the traumatic experiences she had as a child throughout the book, making me question her level of mental stability. In all honesty when it comes to this genre, I don't trust anyone or their mental stability! Everyone is shady and suspicious. I wish after everything Imogen had been through that her fight to survive was expanded on.

I was a huge fan of the thrill. Even experiencing moments of adrenaline and inner anxiety from scenes. The ending was full of lies and deceit. It was definitely a wild and crazy ride!

Imogen and her husband Patrick move to a cottage in the countryside for a new start in their marriage. Imogen has been trying to get pregnant and has had problems with Patrick's adult daughter. Imogen is an artist and thinks the country would be a perfect place to paint. Their first day there they meet a neighbor woman named Maureen and she doesn't seem overly friendly to Imogen. This begins a wild ride of a story where the action is fast and furious and poor Imogen finds strange things happening like someone setting fire to her artist studio with her locked inside, to mysterious funeral wreaths left in her house. We can't tell if she is being gaslighted or is having a mental breakdown.

Parts of this story seemed so familiar to me I was convinced I read it before but then other parts were different so it must be just a common story trope. The author does a good job of not letting us know who to trust and I flew through the book to find out what in the world was going on. It is similar to stories by Freida McFadden and will be a great beach read that can be read in one sitting. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this ARC in exchange for a review.

The Silent House is a gripping psychological thriller that kept me hooked through the whole book. I loved the tense atmosphere and the constant feeling of unease as Imogen struggled to figure out what was real and who she could trust. The short chapters made it a really easy and fast read, and I enjoyed how the suspense built steadily throughout.

Even though I guessed part of the twist, there were still plenty of surprises that kept me turning the pages. A really solid thriller that fans of psychological suspense will enjoy.

This was a great, spooky story made even better with Rose Robinson as the narrator, she does such an excellent job setting the tone and feel of this world. It’s full of mystery and second guessing all the way with quick, sharp shooting chapters.

I found the ending fairly predictable of the genre, but it didn’t put me off at all. I’d recommend this creepy, and engrossing read!

I went in to this book semi-blind. I had originally read the description, but forgot about it when I starting reading it. I'm happy that I forgot what it was about, because in the end I wanted more. Was it eerie and psychological, as describe...maybe somewhat. I may feel differently if I liked the FMC. I just found her too erratic or susceptible to whatever happened next. I don't mind characters that second guess and try to distiguish betwen what's happening and not, but Imogen was just gullible and not the best of characters. The gaslighting was insane, but not in an ok this matches the story and what it's trying to portray. The end twist was good, but I figured it out before the reveal was complete; and the ending just fell flat in the epilogue. I need the epilogue to punch or tie things up, this just ended.

I had a mixed bag with Silent House. The plot was pretty straightforward, so I didn’t get too surprised by any twists or turns. That said, the short chapters kept the pace moving, making it a quick and easy read. It’s probably more of a light suspense book for folks who prefer it simple, but it didn’t really stick with me.

La Maison silencieuse est un roman à l’intrigue captivante qui parvient rapidement à happer le lecteur. L’histoire est bien construite, avec un suspense efficace et des rebondissements qui maintiennent l’intérêt jusqu’au bout. L’atmosphère est particulièrement réussie : on ressent une tension constante qui donne envie de tourner les pages.
Cependant, malgré la qualité du récit, la lecture est parfois freinée par des fautes d’orthographe et de syntaxe assez évidentes. Certaines erreurs sont suffisamment marquées pour devenir gênantes et sortir le lecteur de l’histoire. C’est d’autant plus dommage que le potentiel du roman est réel et que l’intrigue mérite une forme plus soignée.
En résumé, c’est un très bon thriller sur le fond, avec une intrigue solide et immersive, mais qui aurait bénéficié d’une relecture plus rigoureuse pour être pleinement à la hauteur de son ambition.

Okay I loved this book a lot. I found Imogen to be kind of annoying but it was okay. The plot twist was so twisty I didn't see any of that coming. This book had so many twists and turns right from the start and I could not put it down. I had to know what happened.

The twists and the turns literally had me on the edge of my seat. Trying to guess who it was and can I say I’m not usually wrong but this time I was soooo far away from the culprit/s that I actually shouted “no” when it all came to light.

Ahhh, another book where the female main character may or may not be crazy. This one was very slow, taking most of the book to build up to something exciting, and then it was over as quickly as it happened, leaving much to be desired. This one just didn’t hit the spot for me.

This was a very quick, enjoyable read! It had some spooky aspects to it, and kept you guessing until the end with all the twists thrown in.
I did not expect the ending and it definitely threw me off and did not disappoint!
There was a lot of talk about pregnancy, and I did think it was a little too much at times with being repetitive.
Overall, I really liked it and would recommend if you wanted a quick thriller!

This book was a good quick read and a distraction from my exams- so I enjoyed it.

As the main character is thrown into this thriller, every chapter she’s on the brink of a panic attack.

Her reactions were kind of comical by the end, because everything would make her queasy and frozen in terror. It sort of made me think of the show “The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window” with how everything was immediately a life or death situation.

But nonetheless- it’s a twist I didn’t see coming. So it was a good read.

The book was fast paced and had good short chapters and lots of unreliable narrators, which gives it the structure of a good thriller.

However there was a lot in this book that fell flat.

I felt frustrated about how dumb Imogen was- clearly there was something dodgy about Donnie and the 'investigation' he did, so why didnt he she ever actually call the police? Especially when she knew Maureen was a liar. Also after being in a fire, when pregnant, why would you not go get checked over in hospital? Why would you not involve the fire service to ensure the fire is out and the structure safe? Made the story feel less authentic and real. And the amount of times Imogen put down weird things to 'must be how it is in the country' just made her seem ignorant and entitled.

As someone with mental health issues I felt a bit jarred by the idea that Imogen was seen as unreliable as she had a previous psychotic break but could somewhat see why when off medication this could be a risk- which made it frustrating when she could so easily have taken pictures of things that had happened to give herself credibility.

The revenge plot for underpinning this book was a bit bizarre. Basically 20 years in the making and why would Patrick have agreed to do it? Also
why hasn't the family had some therapy and moved on? Weird and unhealthy.

Fast-Paced, Brain-Cleansing Thriller

This one was exactly what I needed, a nice brain cleanse between heavier reads. Simple, fast-paced, and easy to fly through. The main female character was a bit naïve, but it fit the tone and made for a familiar ride if you’re a fan of Freida McFadden-style thrillers.

There were definitely some parts I skimmed certain scenes didn’t feel necessary and dragged slightly but overall, it moved quickly and held my attention. The ending was satisfying and wrapped things up nicely, which I always appreciate in a thriller.

If you’re in a reading slump, waiting for a highly-anticipated release, or just want a quick escape, this is a solid pick. Not groundbreaking, but definitely entertaining.
