Everyone thinks I’m fine. The jokes, the parties, and the way I light up the locker room are all part of the show I put on.
It’s a mask I’ve learned to wear well, because if anyone ever found out the truth about my brother and the panic attacks I can barely keep under control, I would be risking more than just my place on the team.
And then there’s Seth. He’s the new transfer defenseman with a constant scowl and a stare that sees too much.
I thought he couldn’t stand me, but then one time, after a panic spiral, he doesn’t walk away....
Seth
I didn’t transfer to make friends. My only focus is rebuilding my game and staying under the radar.
But Theo makes that impossible. He’s loud, reckless, and way too good at seeing through me.
I didn’t come here to care. The ice is supposed to keep us distant, but between practices, stolen glances, and quiet moments no one else sees, the blue line between teammates and something more begins to blur.
We’re both playing a dangerous game, and it won’t end without a cost...
listen...i finished it, so...yeah. didn't hate it but didn't particularly love it. i couldn't really connect with the characters. it felt like all the meaningful moments that would have allowed that were summarized. basically a lot of telling and not showing. also they went from "let's be friends" to "i like you, we should see where this goes" to "i love you" literally back to back to back. and then everything after that just felt rushed. the conflict came and went, then boom it was two epilogues and done
It was just ok for me. I may have liked it more if the narration had been done by a human and if the two characters (in whose separate "voices" the book is written) would have had different voices in the narration. As it is the AI narration, which has no intonation and is the same for both characters is severely handicapping this book and is very distracting.
The story itself is a bit dull and I found some (most?) of the scenes simple and undeveloped...
This was such a fast read. The story was real honest and amazing. The character development of both Theo and Seth was such a good move. They went from broken damaged boys separately to each other's whole world. They grativated towards each other from the beginning and read each other like a book. They didn't let fear control their lives and chose each other no matter what
Was expecting a different story from the blurb. This is a heavy book…lots of angst between the main characters. Both Seth and Theo struggle personally. The angst gets a bit repetitive as the plot progresses.
