Three million years into deep space, Dave Lister is the last surviving member of the human race. Woken from suspended animation on the mining ship Red Dwarf, he discovers a radiation leak has killed the rest of the crew and his only companions are Arnold Rimmer, a hologram of his dead bunkmate, Holly, a senile computer, and a creature who evolved from the descendants of the ship's cat. Resigned to his fate, Lister begins the long journey home. Absolutely smegging magnificent. If you know Red Dwarf well and can fill in the gaps of a few visual gags along the way, it lives in all its nostalgic glory as its best self in these wonderful recordings. Sometimes I think this even makes episodes better, as I remember them for what they were, rather than what they have become in the cold light of modernity.

My only criticism is that as of writing this review, the last few minutes of the final episode “Meltdown” are cut-off mid-scene and the recording ends. I wondered why it was 22 minutes long and so much shorter than the others. I am hoping this review means the BBC will see it and fix it!

Smoke me a kipper, I’ll be back for breakfast!
