This novel pulled me in from the first chapter and refused to let go. The author paints the setting with such vivid detail that I could practically smell the lavender fields rolling across every scene. The central mystery is clever and unpredictable, with each clue delivered at just the right moment. I loved the emotional depth woven into the protagonist’s journey, giving the suspense real heart. The writing is elegant, the atmosphere rich, and the ending is both shocking and perfectly earned. “Murder in a Lavender Daze” is an absolute gem of modern mystery fiction.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

This series is a spinoff of the author’s Fairy Garden Mysteries, a series I have gotten behind on, but that did not hinder my enjoyment of this story one bit. The author starts the book with the cast of characters to help readers get to know the humans, animals, and fairies.

Welcome back to the Courtyard of Peace and Emma Brennan’s Aroma Wellness Spa, gift shop, and café. Emma’s venture has been very successful, and she is now booking private events. Spa parties, birthdays, and bridal showers at her establishment are starting to trend. Her next event is a “Happily Divorced” party. Addison Lacey is ready to celebrate her split from her husband after 8 years of marriage, who has become a man trying to totally control her life. Addison’s mother, a former model in full diva mode, Gianna, has offered to cover the entire event.

When Emma travels to see Gianna and pick up the last payment, she and Addison make an awful discovery. Gianna’s dead body is found in her bed, with the scent of lavender emanating from the area, with a pillow herbally infused she received at the party beside her. Emma detects another smell, but she can’t identify it. With Addison at home at the time of the murder, she tops the list of suspects. Emma can believe Addison killed her mother, but knows several others who should be on that list, including the man Addison is divorcing. Emma is determined to put her sense of smell to the test to catch the true killer. Her Nana, her cousin, and her trusted Birman cat, Vivi, are on board to help.

In this second installment of the Aroma Wellness Mystery Series, we return to Carmel-by-the-Sea and Emma’s wonderful spa. Emma learned everything she knows about wellness, essential oils, and crystals from her Aunt Sophie, who has a spa in Sedona, Arizona. Emma strives to find the same relaxing atmosphere as her staff and clients continue to grow. She is very confident in her knowledge, knowing she can reach out to her aunt whenever necessary or needs a reading of her own. She has a huge heart willing to help anyone in need.

Her cousin Sierra, Sophie’s daughter, is Emma’s partner and in charge of the café, whipping up healthy smoothies, breakfast, and lunch treats for everyone to enjoy. (Check out her recipes in the back of the book.) Their Nana, Lissa Reade, head librarian at the Harrison Library, is their not-so-silent partner who helped fund the spa, gift shop, and café. Emma’s mother, Kate, stops by the spa often to voice her displeasure about something, especially Emma finding dead bodies. Emma’s father drops by for a visit, too, which displeases her mother greatly. They are joined by a great cast of supporting characters, including some delightful fairies.

Gianna’s death was hard on everyone, and there were more than a few suspects. Detective Dylan Summers is on the case. He may be a competent detective, but Emma helped him solve the last murder, and odds are strong she will solve this one, as well. That didn’t keep him from blustering about when she shared information. I had a fantastic time spending time with all the characters during their lunches and spa treatments, but following Emma as she tries to bring all the clues together is the most fun. She keeps circling back around to make each piece fit, even when the last piece falls into place at the most inopportune time.

If you enjoy lighthearted cozy mysteries, with mostly charming characters, set in an idyllic place, Murder in a Lavender Daze is perfect for you. I do encourage you to read Essence of Foul Play first, but it is not necessary to read the Fairy Garden Mysteries before this series. The author does an excellent job making this series easily read on its own. I am very excited for this series to continue.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Thank you to Kensington and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC.

MURDER IN A LAVENDER DAZE by Daryl Wood Gerber
The Second Aroma Wellness Mystery

Emma Brennan's Aroma Wellness Spa is doing well, even with Mah's struggles with the telephone at reception. Always looking to branch out Emma is hosting a Happily Divorced party for spa regular Addison Lacey. Becoming friends with the woman Emma is invited to dinner with Addison and her family only to witness contentious bickering with Gianna, Addison's mother, lambasting her daughter. When Emma goes to their house the following morning to pick up payment for the party, she and Addison find Gianna dead. With Addison under suspicion Emma decides to try to solve the murder.

While the Happily Divorced party is for Addison and her soon to be ex-husband Wyatt, the second Aroma Wellness Mystery has more than its share of unhappy marriages-Addison's parents, her aunt and uncle, and even Emma's already divorced parents. There's even a fiancée with cold feet. No wonder Emma isn't in a rush to get involved in a romantic relationship, although we do see a possible contender. There may be romance for her cousin Sierra too.

I love the whole vibe of the Aroma Wellness Spa, with the café and gift shop. While I may not desire a facial or mani pedi, I would love a sound bath or other meditative session. I can also see myself splurging in the gift shop and enjoying some snacks created by Sienna. The peaceful ambiance makes a striking contrast to the murders Emma encounters as well as the dangers she faces while shaky alibis and various motives contributed to this interesting puzzle.

A delicious mystery wrapped in unhappy relationships and soothing vibrations makes MURDER IN A LAVENDER DAZE a delightful read. I was happy to return to the Aroma Wellness Spa and look forward to my next visit!

A strong cast of quirky characters, whimsical garden fairies, and a pampered cat lead readers through a well-constructed cozy murder mystery set in the picturesque coastal town of Carmel-by-the-Sea . . .

I enjoyed reading this entertaining clean, cozy mystery written by an award-winning author. As someone who has been fortunate to visit Carmel, California, dozens of times in the past, I feel the author successfully captured the unique ambience of this lovely small town on the Central California Coast.

This book features an assortment of characters, and the list of the Cast of Characters provided to readers in the Front Matter was very helpful to me as I navigated this 'new-to-me' series. A street map of the town is also provided for readers' reference.

The story includes a lot of tension between various people in the community, family members, and friends. Some of the characters were rude and obnoxious while others were kind and friendly. This blend of personalities made it challenging to pin down who actually committed the crime—the hallmark of a well-written mystery!

Learning about fairies, crystals, and other treatments at the spa were key to the plot and added an interesting twist to the events in the story. There are half a dozen recipes in the Back Matter of the book including regular and Gluten-free versions of some of the foods included in the story.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through Great Escapes Virtual Book Tours. All of my thoughts and opinions shared here are solely my own.

Daryl Wood Gerber delivers another hit in the Aroma Wellness Mystery series, further developing the journey of Emma Brennan. After following her heart to open her own wellness spa, Emma finds herself hosting a "Happily Divorced Party" that quickly spirals into a crime scene.
While many cozy mysteries center on libraries or coffee shops, this series offers a refreshing break by immersing readers in the world of self-care and holistic health. The setting is so vivid that it may leave you wanting to book a spa appointment yourself. Gerber perfectly balances the fast-moving plot with the serene, inviting atmosphere of Carmel-by-the-Sea.
The victim is a polarizing figure, surprisingly missed by some characters while definitely not missed by others.
The mystery is fueled by family tension and a web of lies, making it difficult to distinguish the true "bad guy" from those who are simply afraid to be vulnerable.
Gerber continues to add impressive depth and backstories to Emma and her surrounding cast. Fans will enjoy delightful cameos from the Fairy Garden Mystery series, particularly a fairy visiting Emma’s own garden.
This is an incredibly enjoyable read, especially for those on travel. I enjoyed it from cover to cover and can’t wait to try out the included recipes. If you are looking for a well-written mystery that trades caffeine for aromatherapy and a sense of well-being, this is the book for you.

MURDER IN A LAVENDER DAZE is the second book in the Aroma Wellness Mysteries. Author Daryl Wood Gerber expertly sets the stage with a setting offering a tempting retreat for relaxation and meditation, with protagonist Emma Brennan as the perfect guide. While Emma’s soothing Aroma Wellness Spa might lull the reader into a peaceful state of being, not everyone is harmonious, as the story starts off with a bang. Between hosting a divorce party, her divorced parents’ discordant interactions, employee issues, and discovering a murder victim, Emma is anything but relaxed. Ms. Gerber’s strong descriptive language brings the spa and the characters to life, quickly reeling the reader in while keeping the focus on the mystery throughout the story. The scenes are well-plotted, and the pace of Emma’s investigation kept me invested in finding out what happens next. I loved this latest visit to Carmel-by-the-Sea and catching up with favorite characters, and meeting new ones, all the while being challenged by a puzzling whodunit!

I was provided with an advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Emma Brennan's Aroma Wellness Spa, gift shop, and cafe are experiencing success. One event currently on the calendar is Addison Lacey's "Happily Divorced" party. Her wealthy mother, Gianna, is paying for it. When Emma goes to her home to pick up the final payment she and Addison discover Gianna's dead body. Addison becomes a prime suspect, but Emma is convinced she is innocent and sets out to clear her.

I enjoyed spending time with Emma and all the secondary characters. It was also fun to revisit with characters from the Fairy Garden Mystery series since this is a spinoff of that series. The characters are fun to read about and the type of people I would enjoy hanging out with in the real world. The story was well written and kept me guessing as to who the killer was. It was hard to put down the book since I wanted to find out what happened next. I enjoyed the first book of the series and found the series got even better with this addition. The author also included some delicious recipes made in the cafe at the end of the story.

Murder in a Lavender Daze by Daryl Wood Gerber takes us back to Emma Brennan’s Aroma Wellness Spa (plus gift shop and café) in charming Carmel-by-the Sea, California. I always enjoy returning to Carmel-by-the-Sea. It is a lovely setting with kind residents, great shops, and delightful fairies. I enjoyed catching up with Emma and the other characters including a couple from A Fairy Garden Mysteries. The author's vivid descriptions made the setting easy to picture. I thought having a divorce party was a wonderful idea (put the past behind you and start your next chapter with positivity). Of course, in this town, a divorce party is bound to go awry. The mystery was enjoyable, with well-placed clues. The ending left me smiling. There are recipes at the end including one for double chocolate chip cookies. Murder in a Lavender Daze is a merry mystery with a gift shop skirmish, an uplifting facial, a murdered mother, calming lavender, a planted pillow, a cute cat, and helpful fairies.

This is the second book in the Aroma Wellness cozy mystery series and just like the first it was a page turner!

I love the vibes that the setting gives off. It is a small town with a tight knit community. The setting of the shops actually reminds me of my town square. I really like that I’m able to relate in this aspect.

As for the mystery, I thought that the storyline had a nice flow and there were so many questions but none were left unanswered. There were multiple suspects and at one time or another I believed they could be the ones that committed the murder, but I was wrong. I love a mystery that you don’t find out the culprit until the very end because it makes me just keep turning the pages.

I adored the use of the fairies. I think it definitely added to the vibes of the book. They weren’t used heavily for the storyline which is good for someone who doesn’t like the fantasy aspect. I loved them. I look forward to more of them in future books.

Thank you so much to the author and Cozy Mystery Review Crew for a copy of this book!

Murder in a Lavender Daze by Daryl Wood Gerber. The story is centered around all the shenanigans happening in and around the Aroma Wellness Spa, gift shop, and café, which is owned by Emma Brennan. Aroma Wellness Spa had all sorts of spa services, such as facials & massages. A very spiritual place with the talk of fairies stopping by, the use of crystals to enrich their lives, and the use of sage to cleanse the space. Seems like a tranquil, relaxing place to book a massage at. Emma also held private parties at the spa; she had a booking to host a spoiled rich lady’s newly divorced party for a local lady named Addison. The party was being paid for by her wealthy parents. When Emma & the daughter Addison went to Emma’s mother’s home to collect the rest of the payment. They found Addison’s mother, Gianna, dead in her bed with the scent of lavender in the air. Gianna, like the daughter, had a reputation of being a snot, so it made it hard for them to narrow it down to who might want to hurt her. In this book, how the main character and her friends would try to figure out who did it had me chuckling at times. This wellness retreat was the hot spot for more than just relaxation. Make sure you read it to find out who killed Addison’s mother & why. Received this as an ARC reader and am leaving my unbiased review.

I really enjoyed everything about this book, especially the theming. The Aroma Wellness Spa is a great place to have around when you need some calming breaths when things happen, like murder. There are also many amazing quotes written throughout the story that may help you on your wellness journey. It also didn't hurt that it takes place in Carmel by the Sea near the place where the Fairy Garden Mysteries are found.

This is also good for those of us who like that the main character/sleuth doesn't have a romantic relationship with the detective. Don't get me wrong this is a tight knit community and there are some very good connections but just not how it usually is in other cozies. There's also a large range of characters that play specific roles and add humor and help to the dialog.

This is just a fun, easy to read story that will make you feel good.

Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington for the ARC for my honest review.

Emma Brennan owns the Aroma Wellness spa in Carmel, California. She's planning a "Happily Divorced" party for a customer when that woman's mother is mysteriously murdered. Emma works as an amateur detective to solve the mystery - even though this puts her in personal danger.

I wanted to read Murder in a Lavender Daze because I love cozy mysteries. The Carmel setting and spa details sounded interesting.

I have read a number of Daryl Wood Gerber's mysteries, but somehow missed the first book in this series. That said, I had no problem at all enjoying this mystery as a standalone read. I was happy to see some familiar characters from the Fairy Garden series make brief appearances!

Emma is an interesting protagonist. She's very dedicated to her work at the spa, providing wellness, mindful meditation, and calming techniques to her customers. At the same time she has a talent for solving mysteries! I like her detecting style, which includes constructing a murder board.

I enjoyed the other characters as well, including Emma's co-workers, her cousin Sierra, and her parents. (And, of course, Emma's lovable cat Vivi!)

The mystery kept me guessing and Emma solved it before I could. I liked the pacing of the book, with relatively short chapters and a good deal of dialogue. The Halloween setting was a fun touch.

I recommend Murder in a Lavender Daze for other cozy mystery readers. It's a fresh, clever mystery with a unique spa setting.

Book two in the An Aroma Wellness Mystery series just hit all the right buttons for me. A well done mystery story with lots of possible murderers, a sprinkling of fairies, and some cross over appearances from the people (and fairies) from Ms. Gerber's Fairy Garden Series, that's also based in Carmel-By-The-Sea.!

I loved the idea of a divorce celebration. at the spa, although after the murder, I thought it was a bit over the top. I just couldn't relate to someone celebrating her divorce right after her mom was murdered. I guess grief manifests itself in many way.

The mystery was tight and the clues were there, but not glaring. The ending, with the unmasking of the perpetrator, was a bit of a surprise for me. I mean that person was on my list...but not at the top!

I can't wait for the next book in this series. They're just so good!

Aroma Wellness is doing well and has started offering private events whether it be a birthday party or a bridal shower. Emma even has a divorce party coming up for Addison Lacey who after eight years of marriage says her husband ended up not being such a nice guy. Addison's rich former model mother Gianna is footing the bill for the party. When Emma goes with Addison to pick up her final payment the two find Gianna dead in her bed. It doesn't take long for the police to zero in on Addison as their main suspect but Emma thinks she is innocent. Emma looks to her family to help her dig into this mystery in hopes of clearing Addison's name. Will the group be able to find the killer before Addison ends up behind bars? This is a wonderful series with great characters and the plot is always fulfilling. I look forward to each new read and seeing where the author will take.the main character to next!

The second in the Aroma Wellness series, the author keeps her readers in the adorable (but apparently deadly) town of Carmel-by-the-Sea. I love that in this series I meet and get to know new characters, all while still feeling comfortable in a town I know well from the Fairy Garden series. Emma is a little higher strung than her FG counterpart, so good thing she runs a spa! And there were a few things over the course of the story that I questioned, but also found myself closing my eyes to mediate when Emma told her clients during a sound bath! These stories will satisfy your need for mystery all while lowering your heart rate! (and bonus: there are some recipes in the back for some of the mouth watering treats sold in the spa's cafe!) Bring on book three!

Thanks to the author and Cozy Mystery Review Crew for a copy of the book. This review is my own opinion.

Emma Brennan, who runs the Aroma Wellness Spa and café in Carmel-by-the-Sea, finds herself caught up in a murder investigation when a divorce party takes a tragic turn. What should have been a fresh start for Addison quickly spirals into chaos when her mother is found dead, and Emma feels compelled to help clear her new friend’s name.

I really enjoyed how the plot was handled balancing the calming spa and wellness theme with the tension of the mystery was great. The lavender set up for a serene setting soothing at times, even while the suspense kept building. It gave the book a unique atmosphere.

The mystery was clever, I had my suspicions, but the final reveal surprised me. I also liked the little crossover moments with the Fairy Garden Mysteries

And as always with Daryl Wood Gerber’s books, the recipes at the end were a delightful bonus.

Murder in a Lavender Daze by Daryl Wood Gerber was such a delightful surprise. As someone who absolutely loves cozy murder mysteries, this book felt like a warm return to the charm of classic Agatha Christie; curling up with a great story and a cozy snack kind of read.
The whimsical nature of the characters was simply magical. Their interactions and witty banter made the story feel effortless and engaging, pulling me in from the start. I found myself genuinely enjoying not just the mystery, but the personalities and relationships woven throughout.
This was my first time reading Daryl Wood Gerber, but it definitely won’t be my last. The story wrapped up so smoothly and satisfyingly, leaving me with that perfect cozy mystery feeling.
A solid 4 stars, highly recommended for anyone who loves a charming, character-driven whodunit.

Second book in this spinoff from the Fairy Garden series. We see a little more of the fairies than in the first book. Although not necessary- this series could stand on its own- we might get to learn more about the fairy realm that wasn't covered in the original series. I don't know anything about spa treatments or crystal readings but the author describes everything nicely and it fits in easily.
Some new characters are introduced. Not sure whether they'll become reoccurring or not, but you get to know them quickly and hope everything works out for all of them. The mystery has a lot of potential suspects with a unique clue that Emma is particularly suited to unravel.
Recipes are included that I want to try, especially the double chocolate chip cookies and the pumpkin muffins.

Love this series!!!! Murder in Lavender Daze is another wonderful installment in the An Aroma Wellness Mysteries. the plot was witty and fast paced, it had me hooked from page one. I also love how quirky the charaters are. They are fun and well written. I especially love the relationship between Emma and her grandmother. It was also nice to meet the father and see how his return played out. I also love how you see past characters from the Fairy Garden Mysteries ( another great series I highly recomend)
I love learning about all the crystal, makes me want to start collecting. also the spa setting and learning about different meditations and treatments is fascinating. I love when you read a mystery and not only habe a good story you learn new things! i highly recommend this series!

#Murder in a Lavender Daze” is the entertaining second installment in Daryl Wood Gerber's Aroma Wellness Spa series. It is every bit as wonderful as the first. A group of women gather to celebrate Addison's divorce with a party ---unfortunately, the next morning it is apparent that a murder has taken place. The clues hunt begins.

The mystery is solid though littered with suspects and false leads; Emma has her hands full trying to meet the needs of those around her and still find time to investigate. I liked the pumpkin facial recipe included in this book as well as the food recipes in the back.

Murder in a Lavender Daze is everything cozy mystery readers could hope for: an enchanting setting, a delightful sleuth, and a mystery wrapped in aromatic intrigue. Daryl Wood Gerber once again demonstrates why she is such a beloved voice in the genre.
Emma Brennan is immensely likable, balancing her role as spa owner with an undeniable knack for uncovering secrets. Carmel-by-the-Sea sparkles with warmth and charm, while the luxurious spa setting gives the series a wonderfully fresh identity.
The mystery is expertly constructed, beginning with an irresistible premise and unfolding through a web of suspects, family tensions, and hidden motives. Add a lovable feline companion and a richly entertaining supporting cast, and the result is pure cozy mystery bliss. A thoroughly delightful read.

I love the setting of this book and that it is a spinoff from the author’s fairy series, which happens to be one of my favorite series. I like how the author includes a list of the characters at the beginning of the book to help you remember the players especially the fairies. I wish we all had a little fairy to help us out. This cozy little town would be a good place to live and Emma’s store would be a good place to go for a relaxing day. The idea of a “Happy Divorce” party sounds like a good way to say goodbye to a bad marriage. As far as the mystery of who killed Addison’s mom, the clues lead you to believe you are on the right path to solving the crime and then nope I was wrong. This book held my attention from the first page and I look forward to more books in this series.

I liked this second in the series book. I think I liked it more than the first because the characters are developing so nicely! I have never been to a wellness spa but it seems like Aroma Wellness is growing to be a very good place to go to learn relaxation and find some peace. Unless you are the one finding the body, then it might take a few extra visits to the spa. It's nice to have characters from the Fairy Garden series be a part of this series also. It's pretty cool the way the author is bringing the characters together. I look forward to reading more about the group of wonderful people that are in these series!

This novel is a stunning achievement in atmospheric mystery writing. The author’s command of mood is evident on every page, using the lavender haze to create tension, nostalgia, and unease all at once. The mystery is tightly constructed, with clues that feel organic and characters who are fully realized. I admired the protagonist’s inner struggles and how they tied into the investigation’s larger themes. The final reveal was both surprising and emotionally satisfying. “Murder in a Lavender Daze” is a beautifully crafted, deeply engaging mystery I couldn’t put down.

I received an ARC of this book and I loved it! This is a wonderful continuation of the Aroma Wellness series. It is the second in the series so far and I enjoyed getting back to Carmel. Emma is a fun character and I enjoy seeing her grow as a character. The book is well written and the story flows smoothly. While I prefer to read books in order, you do not have to read the first one to follow the story in this one. If you like cozy mysteries, this is a wonderful book and series to read as well as her Fairy Garden series also set in Carmel.

‘Or you’re Jessica Fletcher and experiencing the Cabot Cove effect.’

Emma’s business is flourishing much to her mother’s dismay and her nana’s delight, and occasionally she sees her own little fairy that makes everything even better. Then the decision to host a happily divorced party turns to murder when the former bride’s mother is done in. Her own natural curiosity spurns Emma to investigate while still offering her clients, and us, guidance in all things wellness in an entertaining and informative outing. With a handful of yummy recipes included this one is absolutely delightful!

Emma had a client wanting a more unique type of girls’ gathering at the spa, a happily divorced party. Before that could happen though, the client’s mother was murdered and Emma was begged to investigate much to Det. Summers’ dismay. When Emma found herself facing off with a killer, she was thankful for a good security system and a grandma who worried.

I really enjoy Meryl’s character a lot and even the crazy jokes she tells. The side story involved her mom who worked as receptionist when her heart was really more into her standup comic acts. The team got a nice surprise at the end and things worked out for all involved.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book provided by Kensington Cozies via NetGalley, and my opinions are my own.

This is a great book in a phenomenal series. Emma has always been through situations that have made her observant and alert. Circumstances always throw her into the thick of things whether she wants to be or not. She has a wonderful cat, and a great support system who are behind her 100%. This story kept me engaged from the first page to the last. I highly recommend this book and this series. I can't wait for the next installment of this series!

I really enjoyed this one! It seems counterintuitive to say a mystery was relaxing, but this one was. The spa setting and details about essential oils, meditation, and spa treatments made for a calming backdrop. The mystery was involved enough to keep it interesting, but didn’t go overboard with characters or motives. The fairies scattered throughout and the recipes at the end were a charming touch!
