Rate this book
She’s a daughter of two worlds.

And those worlds are ready to collide.

Carys Morgan is a mythology professor who walked through a fae portal and into a shadow world where myths and magic are reality. She has danced with dragons, bargained with fae, and fallen for a Scottish blacksmith with the heart of a knight.

But now both the Shadowlands and the Brightlands are in danger because Carys unleashed an ancient power, and the old gods are looking to Carys for a solution.

A goddess of war is loose in the modern world, and the fate of both realms depends on Carys correcting her mistake. To return the Morrígan to the Shadowlands and stop the worlds from colliding, she’ll need the help of old gods, new gods, and every ally—living or dead—she’s made along the way.

“The bees approve of me?”
“It’s a great compliment, to be admired by bees.” He sipped his tea. “Not the dragon though. They still don’t like the dragon.”

I saw that quote and I felt seen. Bees really seem to like me for some reason, and I like them right back. They land on me often, so from now on I'm going to imagine they're coming to bring me some gossip.

But guys, how do I even begin to explain how wonderful Broken Veil was? It gave me everything I wanted out of a final book in the series, and more.

When book two ended, I was ready for absolute chaos to be unleashed in this one, and that's exactly what I got. But it was CREATIVE chaos, everything had a purpose, even things that may not have made sense at the time, do so by the end.

I'm honestly in awe at how Hunter tied it all together. And at all the hours of research she must've put in to pull this off.

If you thought we were done meeting Gods, guess again. There's one I wasn't expecting we'd see, so his presence threw me for a loop, but he fit in so beautifully, making the book even dearer to me.

I'd like to think that the author went "Well, why NOT add (REDACTED), what's stopping me?", absolutely nothing Miss Hunter, and I love you for it.

So yes, the plot was plotting, and it was so incredibly unique that I can't wrap my head around it. That goes for the whole series too, now that I've finished it, I'm once again telling you all that it's one of the best I've ever read, and you must read it too!! LIKE RIGHT NOW, TODAY!!

Romance wise, we got FEDDDD, I felt every interaction between Carys and Duncan down to my bones, it was so good to finally see them happy. And even when the topic of Lachlan came up, it didn't create this huge wedge between them, only reaffirmed what they feel for each other.

Then we have Cadell and Laura, whose banter I could read about all day. I'd love to see them get their own story, or maybe a shared one with a certain fae and wolf shifter.

But I also want to see Dru again...and I'm not saying I'm psychic, but the Morrigan made that one comment about someone having two lovers so, mayhaps that's what's in Naida's future? When it comes to pass, remember y'all read it here first, okay?

We even got The Lord of the Rings references, and they were hilarious. I would've put one of those at the top of my review, but the bee quote won by a smidge. So if you want to read a book about Sexy Frodo, you're in the right place.

What really got the waterworks going was Carys meeting two people who are...away? I don't want to spoil anything, but she met them separately, and the comments they made about each other made me want to bawl like a baby.

Speaking of (non human) babies, there's a nice surprise inside that I didn't know I needed until this moment. In fact, I'd be very much obliged if we could get a story about this character when they grow up.

While this is the end of Carys and Duncan's story, I'm glad the world itself will continue. I cannot wait to see what other tales Elizabeth Hunter will cook up in that brilliant mind of hers.

Do you believe in fairytales? Yes yes yes! This series has my whole heart and will be something I reread again and again. I knew that Broken Veil was going to be a wild ride after the events that occurred in The Shadow Path, and I was absolutely correct. Hunter is a master at her craft and the way she wove this story together was nothing short of a masterpiece. Her writing is so incredibly smart and thought out which makes for such a fabulous story to read.

Carys and Duncan’s journey comes to a head in this book and I loved every second of it. Everything about their story is magical and fitting for the world they are in. I don’t want to say much so I don’t give any spoilers but, this was fantastic! I will be recommending this series for years and years to come.

Thank you to Elizabeth and Valentine PR for this ARC in return for my honest review. My opinions are my own.

I think this is one of the few fantasy trilogies I’ve read where I like book 3 more than I did book 2. And book 2 was a 4 star, so that’s saying something. Broken Veil is an absolute gem of a conclusion for this unique fantasy series.

Elizabeth really builds her trilogy in the best way possible. Book 1, First Light, was a great start of the series. Book 2, The Shadow Path, brought more action and more secrets to all come together in Broken Veil.

"𝒩𝑜 𝑜𝓃𝑒 𝓂𝑒𝓈𝓈𝑒𝓈 𝓌𝒾𝓉𝒽 𝒞𝓎𝓂𝓇𝓊 𝑜𝓇 𝒽𝑒𝓇 𝓅𝑒𝑜𝓅𝓁𝑒."

"𝒯𝒽𝒶𝓉'𝓈 𝓇𝒾𝑔𝒽𝓉. 𝐵𝑒𝒸𝒶𝓊𝓈𝑒 𝓌𝑒 𝒽𝒶𝓋𝑒 𝒻𝓊𝒸𝓀𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝒹𝓇𝒶𝑔𝑜𝓃𝓈."

You wanted more creatures? You get them!
You wanted more gods? You get them!
You wanted more Lord of the Rings vibes where Carys is basically Frodo? YOU GET IT

Looking for a fantasy trilogy with more fantasy creatures than you can think of right now? A delicious Scottish hero? A very unique world? And a love triangle? Look no further 😉

Add to your tbr if you love:
✨all the fantasy creatures
🍃ancient gods
✨friends on a quest
🍃shadow worlds
✨found family
🍃Scottish hero
✨dragon and wolf shifters

I’m a little conflicted about the ending. It was great and very fitting. But I feel like I wanted a little more Carys and Duncan in the end? I just love them so much 🙈 Elizabeth did say there’s more to come about the others but she’s taking a – well deserved – break. I’m definitely hoping to see more of Cadell and the others in the future.

The adventure continues as the Morrigan gets more powerful. How can they stop her from letting all the magic into the Brightlands?

This journey is epic. God's, trolls, elves, unicorns, all the things we thought were imaginary have come to life. Could it be true that everyone has their twin in the Shadowlands? Could we fly with our dragon? Could our grumpy neighbor actually be a god? This book shows that anything is possible!

I ran the whole spectrum of emotions while reading this book. By the end I was wiping tears away but exhilarated by the ride. The question at hand is, do you believe in fairy tales? My answer is, yes!

Even though I received this book in advance of its release, I have given an absolutely honest review. I always buy a copy as well.

This was definitely my favorite of the series. Lots of great layers to the story and how to "finish" it. I ended up liking the characters they met on their journey a little more than some of the main-adjacent characters, but Carys is still a freaking Rockstar in my book!

The third book in the Shadowlands series, this is an entertaining and adventure-filled journey full of magic and danger as the walls between the Shadowlands and the Brightlands are tested, and it’s up to Carys and her friends to save the day.

Beware spoilers for earlier books.

In the last book of the series, Carys accidentally released an ancient goddess from the Shadowlands into the real world. Now, the fae gates are failing, and with the help of her loyal friends, she sets out on a quest to save the Brightlands from an ancient and dangerous dark magic.

This book has a bit of a ‘Fellowship of the Ring’ vibe (including fun references aligning Cary’s and Frodo’s journeys). Carys and her friends have to find mysterious new allies to help them unlock each stage of their adventure and defeat a series of beasts as they hunt down the Morrigan and prepare for the final battle. Travelling through different worlds along the way, Carys finds help in the most surprising of places, and it’s really cleverly plotted out.

It's an unlikely bunch of companions, made up of Cary’s hot Scottish lover, her ex, her best friend, a dragon, a fae, a shifter and ‘other’. There are some weird dynamics to contend with, and it makes the whole adventure that much more fun as we watch them bicker, argue, and support each other every step of the way. The romance burns brightly throughout, with Carys and Duncan together, happy, committed, and very much in love, and I loved their sweet, swoony and spicy moments together.

It's a good build-up, but after all that they go through I found the big climax to be a bit underwhelming. But the book ends in a good place and I was glad to see a happy ending.

This book finishes off Carys’ story arc, but the author promises to return to the Shadowlands with stories for some of the side characters, and I am here for that!

A fun and entertaining read – 3 stars.

I try to explain to people how unique Elizabeth Hunter’s style of writing is, but I always fall short. Lots of people are writing amazing fantasy stories right now, but none of them in the same way that she has. There is always such a realism to even the most wildly mythological creatures. It’s as if you can see these things actually existing in our world, like they belong here. Broken Veil was an absolute joy to read. I read Percy Jackson when I was younger, and I couldn’t help but feel like we were once again on an epic quest, full of twists, turns, mysterious gods, and more questions than answers. The Shadowlands weaves fantasy into the modern world seamlessly. Without any spoilers, I have never seen that blend written in the way I did in this book. So unique! I could see it actually happening! She certainly did her homework in this series on gods and mythological creatures. It was a delight to see so many mentioned and done right by. I love how she wrapped the series up, I can see how there may be potential for more and that is exciting indeed.

This books wraps up all the major plot points from the first two books, but does still leave room to explore more characters and relationships in this series. This is wonderful because I REALLY want to read more about a couple of couples! We see Carys learning more about herself/her family and her relationship with Duncan now sits in that comfortable space where trust can really flourish. We have fierce friendships and fierce romances in this series so it’s easy to get invested in their adventures. There were lots of twists and turns in this book and I found myself wanting to space out my time reading it to fully digest the various experiences. In all honesty, I’ll probably read it again just to see what details I may have missed the first time around! I was gifted this book in advance of its release and I’m really excited for other fans of Elizabeth Hunter to get to dive right in as well. I’d absolutely recommend this whole trilogy (and will wait happily with my fingers crossed to read more Shadowlands stories in the future)!

I took my time reading this book because I absolutely adore the characters, the world building , everything about this world that Elizabeth created.
I was absolutely blown away by the creativity of this book. I caught myself over and over thinking. Oh my gosh how in the world did she come up with this? It is so amazingly unique.
This book is one that I will definitely read and listen to, because I will be buying the audiobook, multiple times. What an amazing series, plus this was a fantastic final book of Carys and Duncan’s story.

The build up didn't dissappoint and what a conclusion we got. No spoilers! But daaang those Scotsmen.... Not to mention the gods, young and old.
Elizabeth Hunter delivered another masterpiece that wraps up the story beautifully. Now we can only hope it won't take too long before she visits this world again.

This was such a fitting conclusion to The Shadowlands Trilogy and I enjoyed every second of it!

Broken Veil picks up where The Shadow Path leaves off and I couldn't pick up this book fast enough! For a little background, Carys Morgan is a mythology professor in California and her boyfriend, Lachlan Murray disappeared without explanation. Refusing to believe he has left her, she follows what she know about him and finds herself in Scotland, where she meets Lachlan's twin brother, Duncan. When Carys enlists Duncan to help her find Lachlan, she gets more than she bargained for...an entirely different world, The Shadowlands, and it's ripe with magic.

This series has been an engrossing experience, written in a way that has you emersed in the Shadowland world. Elizabeth describes the Shadowlands and all of it's inhabitants in extraordinary detail, allowing vivid images to flow through your mind as you read each page. I love how mythological stories from childhood and all over the world are woven into a wholly original story.

Broken Veil has everything! Romance, action, mystery, villains, heroes, and so much more! It the past colliding with the present and the story of what happen when fairytales simply exist on the other side of the portal, you simply have to walk through...

Do you believe in fairytales? I certainly do and I am really hoping I find myself back in this world sometime soon because I didn't want to leave!

I've so enjoyed this series! Carys is so relatable, and her struggle with imposter syndrome is so real. The fellowship is full of characters that are all developed individually, and I can't wait for their stories. If you enjoy mythology and folklore, this is the series for you!

Broken Veil by Elizabeth Hunter is book three in her excellent Shadowlands series about parallel dimensions. We are back in the magical world of the Shadowlands and the modern world of the Brightlands to find out the consequences of the deal Carys had made for Seren’s journals. This is an amazing and magical tale, with the right amount of romance and fantasy.

At the end of the last book Carys had kept her side of the deal and guided the old fae sorceress.
through a fae gate into Brightlands. Unfortunately the woman turned out to be an ancient goddess and had tricked Carys. It has now fallen on her shoulders to rectify her mistake by defeating the Morrigan. However, it is not a simple task and she must embark on a quest to return the old woman back to the Shadowlands.

Carys is accompanied by Cadell, her dragon and Duncan, who she has chosen over Lachlan. They have admitted they love each other so he’s not letting her go anywhere without him. She is also helped by an eclectic group of friends to compete her quest. Laura her best friend, Godrik, a wolf shifter and Naida, a fae healer. Carys doesn’t know if two humans and their magical friends can stop the Morrigan who wants to take over the Brightlands.

The story starts with them in Brightlands London assessing the damage the Morrigan has already caused in the human world. They don’t know what powers or magic she is able to use but if they don’t stop her a magical war will start. Can they save the fae gates and protect the magical and mysterious creatures on the other side.

We follow the group as they try to find a way to defeat her and what an adventure they have. When they find themselves returning to the Shadowlands, Carys is surprised when Lachlan joins them, much to Duncan’s annoyance. We also see Dru in his new role as King after the war with his brother. They continue their journey and meet some weird and wonderful folk who give Carys cryptic advice and information to help her on her quest. I found it intriguing how each person or creature they encounter is somehow linked to the one before.

Carys also gets information about who she is and her family history in both worlds. She knows she shouldn’t exist as she’s a human born from magic, a daughter of two worlds because her mum was a Shadowkin and her dad a Brightkin. She knew she was born in Wales but it turns out there are family secrets still to be revealed.

The author packs this full of magical and mythological creatures, gods and goddesses. I loved all the amazing discoveries about the different characters, the supernatural events and finding out about the other worlds. We learnt more about the gates between the worlds and why they must be protected. I laughed at Laura comparing the group to characters in TLOTR and was really hoping she and Cadell would get together.

Things get weirder in Brightland and Carys faces many challenges as she tries to work out how to defeat the Morrigan. She starts remembering dreams and events from her childhood. Then voices in her head confuse her especially when she guesses who maybe speaking to her. Can Carys be a hero and save both worlds. A fascinating ending to a great series which I hope the author will return to as there are some characters I’d love to find out what happened to them.

The Shadowlands trilogy has sucked readers in from the opening chapters of the first book and held them enraptured with its mystical parallel universe where dragons soar in the skies and unicorns walk in the woods. Based on Celtic mythology full of mystery and intrigue, twists and turns and fabulous characters, nothing is what it seems, and you should close your ears to whatever whispers your name from the shadows, and never, ever venture off the path no matter what you see. And last of all if you meet a fae, you’re better off saying nothing at all. It's into this world that college professor Carys Morgan found herself when she arrived in Scotland looking for her missing lover only to discover a world and secrets she couldn’t have begun to imagine. Now with Broken Veil the trilogy is coming to a close and Carys with the help of a motley crew including her new lover Scottish laird Duncan, his ‘twin’ Lachlan (her former lover), Cadell the dragon, Godrick a wolf shifter, fae healer Naida, and her best friend Laura are on a quest across the United Kingdom to recapture the Morrigan, a goddess of war who Carys had unwittingly unleashed on the Brightlands. Along the way she’ll face sea monsters, gods, both old and new as well as find out some secrets she never knew about her family.

With Broken Veil Carys’ story comes to an end, but I hope that Elizabeth Hunter returns to both the Shadowlands and Brightlands. This author has created worlds you want to live in. Her words are so beautifully written you never want her stories to end, and she has created characters you want to befriend and know more about. Will Cadell and Laura ever stop bickering long enough to act on their attraction? And Naida and Godrick who was so protective of her but where would that leave Dru? Hopefully, we’ll find out.

This review was originally posted on Books of My Heart

Review copy was received from Author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

The Shadowlands series has lots of popular tropes  - time / portal travel, Scotland, fae, dragons, etc.  I'm going to try not to redo First Light  or The Shadow Path and not do spoilers.  This is a series best read in order.

Carys lives in California, a professor of mythology.  Her boyfriend, Lachlan, disappears, leaving his car and many things.  So she goes to Scotland to find him, discovers he has a "twin" and much more.    She ends up meeting people from Lachlan's world.  And it's so cool, she is chosen by a dragon.

Most of the threads I was worried about at the end of The Shadow Path are answered in Broken Veil.  My impression was the series was originally a duology and turned into a trilogy.  There are the worlds and the magic and the dragons to be learned and developed but some of the mythology, as well as the sort of love triangle, were details I didn't care about.

Broken Veil added a lot more mythology and characters.  The main group of characters lead by Carys seemed to stumble around for most of the time, not knowing what they were doing. The bumbling and the interspersed sex scenes didn't make the pacing very compelling.  Carys is okay but she is just too special snowflake for me.  Partly, she knows this and her anxiety is just another sigh for me.

The ending seemed a little too easy. It was nice for Carys to learn a bit more about her parents here and her history.  Overall, I'd rather have had less characters and more developed ones.

I had the absolute honor of being an ARC reader for this book, and I truly had the best time reading it. First, a huge thank you to Elizabeth Hunter for crafting such a vivid, immersive universe filled with characters you can’t help but fall in love with and fiercely root for.

This series continues to outdo itself. Each book raises the stakes and pulls you in with writing that is effortlessly gripping. From the very first page, the action is nonstop, the tension is perfectly paced, and there’s never a dull moment. Carys Morgan’s journey in this installment was especially compelling. She continues to balance her responsibilities in the Shadowlands with staying grounded in who she is in the Brightlands, and watching her growth has been such a rewarding experience. I also loved how much more we learn about the Gods and Goddesses in this book. Those layers of mythology add such richness to the story, making the world feel even more alive and expansive. Carys being named the Hero and carrying the weight of returning the Morrigan to the Shadowlands creates such a powerful and emotional arc.

I’m already counting down the days until book four. Elizabeth Hunter has a remarkable ability to make you feel as though you’re right there beside the characters, thanks to her vivid, immersive descriptions. The world and cast she has built are so expansive and compelling that the story never once feels slow or stagnant. This was an easy 5 star read for me!

This book is set across two world's so I guess it's fitting I feel split in my emotions towards it.

As a series it's fantastic with the lore, the depth that the research had to be to be so respectful in it's retelling on local lore.

I loved Carys and Duncan. They were normal humans, thrown into a world that wasn't really theirs but determined to save it regardless and Duncan's never ending loyalty to ensure safety and love of Carys at all times and be her support no matter the path she choose really was what books write for dream men.

Yet my heart still broke for Lachlan. I definitely got a better understanding of his and Carys love in this book but his grief was still there and I felt like his stance had always been he could love Carys and Serene both. His lost love and his love. This book felt a little more like she had been a plaster for his grief which he had said was never the case before.

I guess I was hoping for an all round happy after but this book defiantly rounded off one story to lead to more. I do wish we'd gotten a little more of an epilogue because I'm greedy and I just wanted more of Duncan and Carys without the world to save.

This was a great series and such a good dive into lore, multiple universes and love that even death can't put a stop too.

I was extremely fortunate to receive this book as an Arc but as always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you very much for this opportunity, I am extremely grateful!

This book (and series) is why Elizabeth Hunter is one of my absolute favorite authors. Broken Veil is one of the best series finales I’ve ever read. Elizabeth honestly has such a gift for crafting stories and characters that feel like they’re your best friend, your lover, your enemy, and your family. This book had me going through all the feels. Carys & Duncan: realistic perfection. Carys & Cadell: heartwarming perfection. Carys & Laura: BFF perfection. Carys & Lachlan: perfect. Carys & her character growth: absolute perfection. Carys & everyone else (😏)…magical perfection. I don’t want to say too much about what happens throughout the book because stuff happens that should be experienced by going in totally blind. What I will say is that we see more mythological creatures, more characters that have been mentioned before, more Carys & Duncan being hot, and a well balanced narrative. I know this is the end of Carys & Duncan’s story, but there are plenty more to be told featuring the Shadowlands and all the brilliant characters we’ve gotten to know over three absolutely fantastic books.

Thank you so much to Elizabeth Hunter and Valentine PR for the ARC!

4.5 ⭐️

What a fantastical conclusion to this trilogy! The imaginative narrative is truly phenomenal! The layers to the story truly unfold in such an incredible way throughout the book. The entire journey that Carys has to endure is magnificent. She struggles with being the “chosen one” to end the Morrigan’s power hungry shenanigans in the human world. But she does it with grace and lots of help of her loyal found family.

I truly adored the profound and loving relationship between Carys and Duncan. I mean who wouldn’t want the attention and love of a broody protective Scotsman! I loved meeting so many new characters along the way. And while they lent help to Carys through her quest, they were also frustratingly vague 😂. But that just seems to be way with Gods!!

Elizabeth Helen did an incredible job wrapping up this story. I truly hope at some point we will be able to me to revisit this world of The Shadowlands.

This conclusion to the trilogy gave me everything I wanted and more. Adventure, humor, and love. It's always a pleasure reading one of Elizabeth's books. I always feel like her world building is top notch, and you just fall in love with all the characters.

The series moves back and forth between present time as we know it and a portal world known as the Shadowlands, where everyone has a "twin," mythological creatures exist, and fairytales are actually true.

I love that Duncan and Carys are now more comfortable with their relationship, they have a true partnership. Duncan will support and do whatever Carys might need, while Carys struggles with the weight of being the "Hero" but also determined to prevent an old God from destroying both worlds. The side characters are just as fun, from the Gods they meet along the journey guiding Carys, to her own "fellowship" of quest companions.

“You think I’m Frodo?”

“In the sense that you’re a small man with hairy feet?” Duncan growled. “No. In the sense that you’re a hero who stepped up when the world was in danger, absolutely.”

In Book #2 of the Shadowlands series by Elizabeth Hunter, our heroine, Carys unwittingly unleashed chaos on the Brightlands in the form of the fabled Irish goddess, Morrigan. Book #3, “Broken Veil,” sees our heroes and sheroes embark on an epic quest to save the world. They are a colorful cohort of Brightkin, Shadowkin, fae, shifters, a god/goddess or two, and, (most importantly), dragons! that gave me Scooby Doo Gang vibes – but with a supernatural fantasy twist – everyone having a role to play in saving the day.

Along the way, they encounter some characters we’ve met before and many we have not, (and man, are they just as “unique” as our old friends. LOL.) As journey moves to conclusion, be prepared to experience a wide variety of emotions. It truly is an absolute roller coaster ride. Aand, although this appears to be the last of Carys and Duncan’s story, Ms. Hunter promises to revisit the Shadowlands sometime in the future.

I had an opportunity to read an advance copy of “Broken Veil.”

I am writing this after just finishing the final book in the Shadowlands trilogy, Broken Veil, and while I am not sure why this book made me so emotional, I feel a bit overwhelmed. The first two books quickly set out the world and dropped the breadcrumbs that would all click into place at the end. This series with its epic conclusion was more than I imagined and more than I hoped for. I love all of Elizabeth Hunter’s books and have been a fan for more than a decade, but this series was about all the things I love in fantasy and the power of faith (in the old gods and the new!) It was a love letter to all the great works, but didn’t copy them, just an Easter egg here and there to give you that indelible feeling of “knowing.” But even if you never read any of those epic fantasy adventures, the Easter eggs don’t distract you from the story that is all Ms. Hunter’s own. The characters and settings are richly drawn and pulled me into the story from the first page. I highly recommend this series.

Thank you so much to Valentine PR and the author for the eARC!

This is the third and final book in The Shadowlands series, and I honestly couldn’t have asked for a more perfect ending. It was everything I wanted and more.

The story picks up right where book two left off, with Carys determined to fix the huge mistake she made. Carys embraces her destiny as the Chosen One, chosen by the gods to restore balance. Along the way, she discovers what Duncan truly means to her. Duncan always knew what he wanted and is her rock.

I absolutely loved the dynamic between Carys and Cadell (her grumpy dragon). And speaking of Cadell, the chemistry between him and Laura is just off the page! I couldn’t help but wonder what’s really been going on between those two. I truly hope we get a book about these two.

This book was adventurous and beautifully written. It is an amazing end to a world I don’t want to leave yet.

What an awesome conclusion to this trilogy! I loved how it was like a road trip scavenger hunt for clues on how to make things right. It is such an easy world to get lost in!

Can we talk about Duncan though? I absolutely adored him. His need to take care of Carys in every way just made me swoon! (And I mean in every way 😉😮‍💨) and his grumpiness! Gah!

I felt for Carys in this book! So much is placed on her shoulders, but I loved the support system she had for herself. Seriously all the characters are wonderful and I really need more books on some of them! (Which is eventually happening 🤞🏼)

If you love modern fantasy, folklore and romance, then definitely pick this series up!

The Best Mythology of this Century

Elizabeth Hunter's books bring out the other that is so much a part of the human psyche. She uses a fairy tale to tell us about who we are and who we can be, while reminding us that to become our best selves, we must work hard yet allow ourselves to feel the magic around us, like children. And, like in the faitytales of old, it reminds us that living the good life requires some sacrifice. Most of all, Hunter is an amazing storyteller. I had a hard time putting this book down to go to sleep. What wonderfully crafted characters she creates, believable yet courageous and loyal characters, the kind we all wish we had surrounding us. This is book and series you'll love!

What a way to end a series!! This author took us a twisty journey and I was breathless by the last chapter. Every path that was laid is this tale of two worlds was relevant to this story. The author wrapped everything us but not before so awesome travel, world building and character development.

Carys and Duncan hold true and are perfect for each other. I loved seeing them support each other even when they were in disagreement. I loved their group of warriors, ready to do the work of the shadowlands. They needed to right a wrong and by golly they go down to it.

Fantastic!! No complaints for how this story wrapped other than it was over!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Broken Veil was an enjoyable read that left a bittersweet aftertaste. It was good, a fitting conclusion in ways but left me with a mighty need for certain secondary characters stories.

While I loved it and found it satisfying for the most part the info dumping messed with the pacing and my overall enjoyment of the story.

That however does not take away from the fact that this was an epic adventure filled with magic, mythology, folklore, magical creatures galore, an awesome love story and so much more. It truly was a wonderful journey one I loathe to let go of but most certainly recommend.

This is the outstanding finale to the Shadowlands trilogy.
I loved the new characters and the expansion of some previously met ones.
This fantasy world that the writer has created is phenomenal with so many plausible descriptions that it became a real world that I’d like to visit.
I am now convinced that all of these fabulous creatures do exist in a parallel world and nobody can tell me any different.
Shadowlands has been a tremendous story telling ride that I have really felt privileged to be able to share in.

"Broken Veil" is the third and final installment in the acclaimed Shadowlands series. As always, Elizabeth Hunter's writing is excellent and perfectly on point. This book serves as a powerful and satisfying culmination to the entire series. While it's difficult to discuss the plot without revealing spoilers, the story features: Strong, compelling female leads. Charming Scottish heroes. A vibrant, richly detailed fantasy world that will completely draw you in. If you haven't read this series highly recommend that you do and then finish it off with "Broken Veil," the must-read conclusion!

An amazing end to to an epic story

I wish I was better at words. This story’s end brought tears to my eyes. Elizabeth Hunter is a wonderful author who creates such amazing worlds. I read everything she writes. Everything is great, but some things are so amazing that it grips your mind and heart and brings you to tears. That’s what this series did to me. I can’t wait to read more, not only from this world, but whatever Elizabeth Hunter might share with the world. 10 stars.
