Another Page Turner

SETTING: Dystopian America following a civil war were each state or set of combined states have become nation states. These stories take place between Sri-Nora the safest and most desirable area to dwell; on the other hand, the Southern Open Belt is the most violent area in the country..
TROPE: Unrequited love. Would be lover consigned to the friend zone.
MAIN CHARACTERS:
1. Dante Swanson, the handsome deadly male lead, is known as the Grim-reaper. He is the government's most effective guard and enforcer.
2. Jasmine "Jazzy" Batiste, lead female, is a freelance graphic designer.
3. Elizabeth "Liz" Beaumont is a manipulative conniving jealous pseudo friend to Jasmine who is obsessed with Dante.
4. Silas/ Gideon Callahan is a deceitful character who has been Jasmine's friend with sexual benefits.
Dante and Jasmine have severed all friendship ties and have suffered loss of appetite, weight loss and general unhappiness. Elizabeth is still nagging and trying to use sex to get favorable reactions from Dante. Silas/Gideon is allowing Jasmine to be used as a means to entrap Dante and save himself and his mother and sisters. When Dante is told that Jasmine is in danger and being held in the Belt, he quietly goes to rescue her without telling Elizabeth. There is a lot of action in this installment of the series; but the failure of 31 year-old Jasmine and 41-year-old Dante to cut the pretense and acknowledge that feelings. Angsty slow-burn romance stories are popular but this is something else.

Jasmine has been kidnapped! Rewind ... so Jasmine's mother contacts Dante because once again she hasn't heard from Jasmine and this time she's even more worried. When Dante rescued Jasmine that last time, he promised he'd always come save her. When he tells his fiancee Liz that Jasmine's mom hasn't heard from her and is worried ... Liz doesn't care, instead she gives him an ultimatum ..."if you go to save Jasmine's life, we're over!"
Dante works as a high-level security guard and moonlights as a mercenary/black ops type—who ya'gonna call—Dante! In this installment we learn that someone Jasmine trusted betrayed her trust and there is NO coming back from what they did, though their reasons are relatable. Jasmine was used as bait to get to Dante, they wanted him, they got him for better or worse, much worse. Dante quickly proves without hesitation why he's called the grim reaper and my jaw dropped in disbelief and so did everyone surrounding him.
When the puppet-master who had the grand plan of drawing Dante out of hiding is face to face with Dante, he takes his presence much too lightly. The puppet-master tells Dante he'll die slow and Dante smirks, clearly amused—the puppet-master not so much. As he asks Dante what's so amusing, a gun goes off. You already know the story ends on a cliffhanger, so I'm not sure who was pumped full of lead. Stay tuned, this is a serial story with installments 6, 7 & 8 to be released, hopefully soon because I'm on the edge of my seat in anticipation.

I was not prepared for this novella. 4.5 devastating stars
Mind your triggers on this one. I went in blind, totally oblivious and it cost me. I had to put the book down for a bit as I wasn’t expecting it. I had to step away because I didn’t realize I was all of a sudden reading a dark romance so I wasn’t in the mindset for it. 😮💨
All in all, I’ve got nothing. For this to be so short it’s jam packed with pain.

I am going to be super mad if everything doesn’t work out for the FMC. She was already a door mat for the MMC and Liz and then this book puts the main FMC thru the ringer. Still no personal growth or enlightenment.
