I did the unthinkable and rejected the only woman who ever really wanted me. What else was I supposed to do when she was asking for a future that could never exist? Horsemen didn’t have souls. And if a future did exist for our kind, it was bathed in blood and unholy fire. Hardly the stuff dreams were made of.
Merri deserved more than nightmares. I thought I was saving her from such a fate, instead I’d unwittingly sent her flying into the arms of the one being I was supposed to protect her from. My wildflower was in Lucifer’s clutches, and we had no idea how to get her back.
My brothers blamed me for her absence, and rightfully so. I’d broken her heart as well as theirs in the process. The only way we’d stand a chance at bringing her home where she belonged was for the four of us to stand together and ride to her rescue.
Lilith chose us to be her protectors.
Chaos protected her body. Sin protected her heart. Malice protected her mind. And I did all I could to protect her soul from anything that might harm it, including myself.
But we couldn’t carry out our mission without her. With the apocalypse looming ever closer, it was time for the four horsemen to do the impossible and use our considerable power for good.
Otherwise all of this pain and heartbreak was for nothing and no one would ever get a chance at a happily ever after again.
For fans of Supernatural and American Horror Story, USA Today bestselling authors Meg Anne and K. Loraine are thrilled to bring you the final installment in the Mate Games Universe.
The Mate Apocalypse is a spicy paranormal series featuring morally gray heroes whose methods of protection aren't always above board. Not that you can expect much honor from a celibate recluse, an incubus rockstar, the original shadow daddy, and a grumpy ex-Spartan. They are the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, after all.

Me? Obsessed with Luc? Why yes, thank you for noticing.
I hereby declare Grim release day as my next favourite holiday, because this book was written FOR ME. I got everything I wanted and then my heart was crushed into a million tiny pieces at the end. Exactly as it should be.
So obviously, Luc got more page time (hurray), I purposely kept pausing the audiobook before the chapters featuring him, because I knew every single one would be my favourite, and I wanted to take my time with them.
Of course, I was right. Luc's been stealing the show throughout the series, and now he's running it. My man, my man, my man.
When I say I was reduced to a smiley, giggly mess whenever he opened his mouth, I mean it, he truly is the moment. The banter between him and Merri made me swoon, I could listen to them all day.
We even got to see a more vulnerable side to him, one that he only seems to show around Merri. Which is why the ending was so painful, but I'll say no more about it, you'll have to read the book and get your own heart broken, okay?
I also loved the grovelling from all four Horsemen. Some of them, Merri forgave easier than others, but that's why Grim's grovelling was the best, it took the longest and was the most satisfying to read about/listen to.
This was mainly his book, and I enjoyed watching him FINALLY accept that Merri is his mate...four books in, but better late than never Grimmy.
Meanwhile, we have Team Puffin working in the background to try and stop the Apocalypse. If the rest of the book wasn't already hilarious, they would make sure to fill your daily laugh quota.
I like how it's more than just a "simple" crossover, these characters don't just show up, give us some info, and pop out until next time, but their lives are being affected, it's not all sunshine and rainbows just because they managed to win their own games.
There was one scene where (I think) too many of them appeared at once, and it was a bit chaotic while listening, trying to keep up with everyone, but normally this isn't an issue because they're very distinct characters.
I can't even imagine what's going to go down in the last book, but I know it's going to be epic.
Now, let's talk about that June release date for a second, do you think I can wait 7 months for the book of my life??? I can't, I'm already going through withdrawals and it's only been a day since I finished it. Please release it earlier!!!
*Thank you to the authors for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
I was disappointed with this one. It didn’t grip me like the books prior. It also got SUPER confusing when every character from other parts of the mate series world were all in one location. I didn’t think Lucifer was going to become a mate as well. I thought he was going to remain the Villian. I would have liked that better considering the whole series the goal has been to stop him and keep him away from Merri. Now they had sex so is the last book going to be her pregnant with the anti-Christ?

I started reading the Mate Games towards the end of the third series and each series quickly became my favourite… they are everything you want in a story like this: the male characters are hot, charming, alpha-y, with just enough vulnerable to be swoony. Some of the side characters get all the funniest lines and all of them are so easy to fall in love with. These books are the epitome of ‘found family’ favourites.
The heroine is basically a Disney princess with an offbeat job and a whole bunch of sassy comebacks.
I’m particularly enjoying the weaving in of all the previous character arcs and I can’t wait to see the Malice/Pan meet unfold.
My only critique (which isn’t really a critique) is that I had mentally prepared myself for this to be the final instalment and I 100% should have known better… I was both disappointed and relieved, which is a strange set of feelings to sit with, but now I’m counting down. Bring it!.

Thank you to Kim and Meg for once again blessing me with an ALC and an ARC.
The intricacies of this shared universe alone deserves 5 stars. The previous series characters all popping in and out the story is just the absolute best. It’s like catching up with old friends whilst the world burns around you (literally).
The storytelling is truly phenomenal, a recurring theme throughout the mate game universe, but Meg and Kim just know how to twist you up and have you gasping and screaming about your favourite - or least favourite - characters. (Also, I’ve said from day one that Lucifer is my boy and no one will change my mind. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.)
Let me take a second to shout out the absolute masterpiece that is the narration of the audiobook. The Mate Games is always filled with your favourite narrators, but this series specifically is unreal. The level of depth these voice actors give their characters is something every audiobook should strive for.
I’m not going to say anything about the plot because I’m not giving ANYTHING away… but I swear, if anything happens to Sunday I will riot in the streets.
Anyway, to summarise: Continuation of a phenomenal series Incredible narration Fun, spicy times Character cameos … lucifer.
** Audio Review ** Holy Hell! Grim by K. Loraine and Meg Anne was a wild, seductive, high-stakes paranormal romance that rocked my heart and had me mesmerized from start to finish. I couldn’t get enough of Merri and all her intensely intimate moments with all her fellas as they continued to strive to save the world and stop the apocalypse. Each new book in this series has me on the edge of my seat, always needing more!
Stella Hunter, Christian Fox, Jason Clarke, JF Harding, James Joseph, and Shane East perform this audiobook in duet style narration along with a full cast. This audiobook is truly a masterpiece for your ears! Stella’s performance of Merri continues to captivate my attention with her conflicted feelings and passionate longings. Christian is perfection as Lucifer conveying his arrogantly charming persistent persona to the fullest, making me doubt my preconceived notions. Plus, Jason, JF, James, and Shane deliver and embody the horsemen in all the best ways. There are several surprise cameos from so many of my favorite narrators, so it's a real aural treat for sure!
Overall, I LOVED this book. If you are a fan of a why choose romance with a passionate succubus, four protective obsessed horsemen, one deceptively handsome devil, all the cameos, shower fantasies, slutty little glasses, feeding sessions, cookies laced with lies, Lilith’s lair, dream walking group spice, horsewomen danger, weakening spells, devil time, rescues from hell, fated mates, and another cliffhanger ending that made me question everything then you will love the next installment of the Mate Games! I always look forward to more from K. Loraine and Meg Anne.
Book: Grim Author: K. Loraine & Meg Anne Rating: 4 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Synopsis: Merri deserved more than nightmares. Thoughts: I am such a fan of these books, I still need to go back and read/listen to the rest of this series - but the Apocalypse series so far has been phenomenal. The spice is on point, the pacing is done fast and well, I was hooked from the start until the finish and loved being thrown back into this crazy world. I was thoroughly shocked and loved the plot twist in this one and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Narration: I love the full cast of narrators, you can tell that they enjoy working with each other and it can be felt throughout listening to the story. They all play off each other so well and I find myself connecting to certain characters by their voice alone.
Would I Recommend: Yes! These reads are perfect spicy palette cleansers.
Available Formats: KU, ebook, paperback, and audiobook.
Things are REALLY getting interesting now and I’m super excited to see how everything will play out in the final book! Without giving too much away, a lot of the focus of this book revolves around Sin, Malice, Chaos and a somewhat recalcitrant Grim desperately trying to find out where Merri has disappeared to and get back into their mate’s good graces. The entire Mate Games family also finally comes together to defend against Lucifer and his supporters, and events are set in motion that will have Merri needing to carefully search her heart! If you’ve come this far in the series, don’t miss this intense, unputdownable read - I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough! And if you haven’t started the Mate Games series yet, what are you waiting for?
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The apocalypse is in full swing in Grim the four installment of the Mate Games and the stakes have never been higher. We find Merri in great danger with her horsemen searching for her. I love the way this duo can weave together the suspense, spice and humor perfectly and always leave you wanting more. I can’t wait to see how it all turns out in the final book.
The multicast audio is phenomenal. Stella Hunter delivers Merri’s emotional journey with being hurt and still caring for her horseman. Shane East, Jason Clarke, James Joseph and JF Harding all showcase the emotions with losing Merri perfectly as each of their horseman characters. Christian Fox shines as in his portrayal of Lucifer. There are many cameos and returning favorite characters that round out this audiobook. Thank you to K. Loraine and Meg Anne for an early listen!
GRIM By: K. Loraine & Meg Anne The Mate Games: Apocalypse: Book 4
**ARC/ALC REVIEW** **Spoilers for prior books!**
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 Star Review 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️5/5 Spiciness Level
RELEASE INFO FOR ARC/ALC BOOKS: Releasing in all formats December 1, 2025; ebook, audiobook, paperback & hardback.
FAVORITE QUOTE(S): “She’d laid it all bare for us, and what had I done? Taken her soft and vulnerable heart and crushed it in my palm while she watched.” & “How can you be so nonchalant about this?” Asher asked. “The rest of us are chalant as f*ck over here. Because, you know, the world is ending and you aren’t helping.” & “I don’t want to be your anything.” … “Well, it’s a bit late for that. You may not have signed up for it, but you were born to be my everything.” & “Who said anything about fair, horseman? Love rarely is. Though it very well may be the only thing truly worth fighting for.”
RECOMMENDATION: The absolute HIGHEST recommendation for an insanely good, unhinged and crazy fun apocalyptic, why choose, dark, paranormal, spicy spicy spicy fantasy romance! You MUST read the series in order, though, starting with the Mate Games: War, book 1!
GENRE, POV, TROPES, PAGE COUNT: Genre is paranormal, fantasy romance! POV alternates by chapter between the FMC, all of the MMC’s and some cameos by characters from previous Mate Games series’ (like Father Caleb Gallagher & Asher & Hades…*swoon*…). Tropes include why choose, apocalyptic world, enemies-to-lovers, fated mates, magical characters like demons, angels, the literal devil himself, witches, & there is dreamwalking, forced proximity, natural disasters and many others I have not listed! Ends in another rather brutal cliffhanger!!!
This is one of many books in the Mate Games world. The entire story is split up into multiple series which needs to be read in order of release. All are Why Choose/ Reverse Harem. So, the first series is The Mate Games: War, which consists of 4 books and a Novella. Then it goes to The Mate Games: Pestilence, which also consists of 4 books and a Novella. Next is The Mate Games: Death, which consists of 4 books.
Now we are here, The Mate Games: Apocalypse Book 4 (of 5) - GRIM!
AUDIOBOOK REVIEW & TIME LENGTH: Ok, once again I must talk about the AUDIOBOOKS!!! They are truly phenomenal and DUET-STYLE with a FULL-CAST!!! The best narrators are in this series! Time length is 8 hours 30 minutes.
Shane East as Grim. Jason Clarke as Chaos. JF Harding as Sin. James Joseph as Malice. Stella Hunter as Merri.
Featuring Teddy Hamilton and Christian Fox.
The banter and chemistry between all these narrators are AMAZING!!!!! YOU MUST EXPERIENCE THESE AUDIOBOOKS!!! THEY ARE PHENOMENAL!!! (Jason Clarke is my absolute favorite male narrator of all time because of his narration of Father Caleb Gallagher in the very first book of this world! – snatched me right up, hook, line & sinker ♥)!!
FMC: Meredith Anne Devereaux (Merri) is a succubus and has realized the four horsemen are her fated mates. She has grown as a character so much since her introduction at the psych ward in the previous series! I love experiencing her coming into her inner strength, getting her powers under control and demanding being treated with love and respect. I’m sure dealing with being in love with the four horsemen of the apocalypse isn’t easy!
MMC’s: The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: Death AKA Grimsby (Grim), War AKA Chaos, Pestilence AKA Malice (Mal) & Famine AKA Sinclair (Sin) -and I’ve officially added Lucifer (Luc) as a fifth MMC.
Grim has an important part in this book because he is being a stubborn a$$, not accepting Merri as his mate even though the rest of the men finally have. When he realizes it, it is kind-of heartbreaking because she’s being held by Lucifer.
STORYLINE/PLOT: This continues the plot of Lucifer trying to get to Merri to impregnate her with the antichrist, and the four horsemen trying to keep her safe from them.
At the end of book 3, she felt rejected by them all so she fled and ended up right in the hands of Lucifer. Though, she does not know that at the beginning.
With Merri gone, the guys try to reach out to Lilith for help to find her. Merri finds out she is, in fact, already in Lucifer’s hands. The entire crew is helping to find her, all while she’s trying to escape. Dreamwalking is a big part of this, being able to feed on someone who is NOT Lucifer in the dream world and being able to talk to and make plans with her guys on how to escape. Bring on the dream smut, I. AM. HERE. FOR. IT!!!
We get to finally experience the guys’ war horses and weapons! And we finally, FINALLY get to see Grim give in to his need for Merri! It’s decadent!
This book definitely sets up for the final book! I’m so sad it’s gonna end, but I am SO looking forward to reading LUCIFER!!!
NOTE: These authors do such a fun job of immersing you into this world. They bring back characters from the previous series' which keeps everything fresh and tied together so well. It really makes it so much more fun to read! At the same time, it’s the literal apocalypse with unimaginably terrible natural disasters, princes of hell and creatures of hell being released. It’s a nice balance between fun and terrible.
I have fallen in love with each character in each series so far. These FMC’s are so blessed with their men. Each little harem contains such big personalities and so much love (& lust ❤️🔥). It’s truly a joy to see them all come together as a unit. After four books of the current series, Apocalypse, I think this one may be my favorite with all the emotions involved. Idk, its been a while since I have read the previous ones! There is definitely something special about the fellers in this series!! I believe Apocalypse is the final series in this story.
Just a note, there are bonuses & extras! They have many bonus scenes for this series to be downloaded into BookFunnel, even full cast audio versions which are so fun to hear!! At the end of each book they give you the website link to download the bonus scenes. The Mate Games actually has its own website which has book art of the characters with their personal info and stuff like that. It’s really a fun time to check it all out! https://themategames.com/. There is also a Mate Games Facebook page AND a fairly new Mate Games Con (just had one in October 2025)!! Both of the authors also have a Patreon with even more bonus material, including NSFW!!
Their other Mate Games story, Twisted Cross Ranch, is also amazing & I believe they will be releasing more books in that world at some point, too.
THANKS: Thank you K. Loraine and Meg Anne for the ARC/ALC’s of this amazing book!! So good and I’m so thankful for each one I receive! Also, thank you Meg Anne and BookSprout for providing me access to the ARC!
GRIM is the kind of audiobook that grips you and pulls you straight back into the shadows of the Mate Games: Apocalypse universe. Dark, atmospheric, emotional, and razor sharp — it’s everything I love about this series, amplified. Performed in duet multicast by an exceptional core cast — Stella Hunter, Shane East, James Joseph, J.F. Harding, and Jason Clarke — supported by Teddy Hamilton and Christian Fox, with cameos from Aaron Shedlock, John Hartley, Lauren Landa, and Samantha Brentmoor — the audio experience is nothing short of cinematic. Every performance lands exactly where it should. With the finale on the horizon, I’m nowhere near ready to let go. Meg Anne and K. Loraine continue to prove why they’re absolute masterminds in dark paranormal fantasy romance — their pacing, world-building, character development, emotional precision, the banter, the spice, and the twists remain unmatched. Consider this whole review my love letter to them and to this cast. We’ve waited years for Shane to step into this universe, and hearing him as Daddy Death feels like destiny — it’s the role he was made for and has perfected. He gives Grim(sby) this quiet gravity, this dangerous softness, this tenderness buried under centuries of shadow. It’s intimate, powerful, and absolutely unforgettable — the kind of performance that doesn’t just settle in your soul, it echoes. And Grim has a lot to atone for. The danger surrounding Merri is intense, and you feel every beat of it. Meg and Kim build the tension with such precision, only to pull the rug out with a twist that even long-time readers absolutely will not see coming. And Stella’s portrayal of Merri deserves its own moment. As a succubus, Merri carries sweetness and strength in equal measure — vulnerable without ever being fragile, warm yet powerful in ways she’s still discovering. Stella captures that balance with stunning nuance. She makes Merri feel grounded, emotive, and deeply human in the middle of all the chaos. Then there’s Lilith and Crombie, whose dynamic continues to own every scene they’re in — I will never get enough of them and Shane and Stella’s performances.
The core cast is incredible. Stella remains the heartbeat of this universe, with Shane East, James Joseph, J.F. Harding, and Jason Clarke adding depth, intensity, and emotional weight that only a long-standing ensemble can create. If you love dark paranormal romance, morally grey men, mythology, end-of-the-world stakes, why-choose intensity, and that perfect mix of depth and tension… add this to your TBR immediately. Meg Anne and K. Loraine are absolute masterminds and remain pioneers of duet multicast audio. There will never be enough stars for this one.
To quote Asher, I’m “chalante as f@ck” over this book! Give this book all the stars, all the love, all the awards! The story is phenomenally crafted, the steam will burn your damn house down, and, in the case of the audio, the acting is worthy of those little gold statues! I laughed, I swooned, I nearly cried! At least in this case, I can say the Devil made me do it!
The story: Grim picks up where Malice left off - the world is facing an apocalypse, our heroes are facing the consequences of their dumb@ssery, and Merri? Well, she in danger, girl! The Four Horsemen are trying to rescue Merri while the rest of the heroes in the MG universe are trying to help stop the apocalypse (almost all of your old favs make an appearance), and the Devil is busy trying to make his antichrist. Meanwhile, Merri is healing a broken heart.
This book had me giggling with glee, starting with the content warnings. I haven’t laughed this much in a single book in a long time. Not only is this book hilarious (contrary to its name), but it is SWOONY as hell (I'm sure the Devil would take all the credit for that!).
I don’t want to say too much and spoil it for anyone, but things happen in this book that you won’t expect, that will make you laugh, scream, and squeal! I never thought I would feel bad, dare I say, empathetic, towards the Devil, but if anyone can make me, it’s Meg Anne and Kim. And the plot twists! These two are diabolical and totally upped their game in this book!
If you haven’t listened to/read any of the previous books in this series, definitely do, or you will be lost. To have an even better understanding of the world you are stepping into, I would start at the very beginning with Obsession (I promise it’s worth every single minute!). Each book in each of the four series contained within The Mate Games universe has gotten better and better.
The audio: I cannot stress this enough, but if you are able, you MUST listen to these books in audio. The cast of narrators is top tier! Not only are they playing the main characters, but multiple side characters as well - and there are a lot of characters in these books! These narrators do an incredible job acting their hearts out in these roles, from sexy to angry to vulnerable, they emote the hell out of their roles.
I love, love, love this whole universe! I CANNOT wait to get my hands on the final book whenever it comes out!!
Finallllyyyyyy! After that cliff hanger at the end of Malice, I have been so excited to get the next book in this series. In this series, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are trying to stop Lucifer from ending the world. To do this, they're all working together to put a baby in Mary before he can. Make it laugh-out-loud hilarious with tons of banter and give all these men a very sassy succubus to keep them in line. I think that kind of covers it?
I don't want to post any spoilers from previous books, so I'm going to keep it simple. Mary and her Horsemen are back and after being separated. Mary is being held captive and they spend this book trying to get back to each other. There's definitely some groveling in this one along with pieces of a redemption story. It was the perfect prep for the last book in the series. Also, can I have a big time soft spot for Grim and I seriously NEEDED him to have his moment. I loved this book for him.
This series is my first dip into Meg Anne and K. Loraine's world, and I wish I had started with Mate Games. I have been listening for the vibes and have really enjoyed this series but some of the plot that connects to previous books or characters has gone over my head. If you're a newbie like I was, I would say go back to the Mate Games series and start there!
✨ Why Choose ✨ Paranormal ✨ Breeding ✨ Touch Her and 💀 ✨ Dark but Hilarious
🎧 𝗡𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼... This audio is seriously amazing. It's one of those cases where the audiobook makes the book even better! This full cast audio has a whole list of amazing narrators that all blend together perfectly. The list includes Stella Hunter (queeennn), Shane East, JF Harding, Jason Clarke, and James Joseph as the main characters and featuring Teddy Hamilton, Christian Fox, and Samantha Brentmoor. Are you kidding me!? This cast is epic. It's feels like you are right there in the middle of all the chaos but you don't have to deal with zombies and the apocalypse!
Thank you to Meg Anne, Kim Loraine and Must Love Audio for this gifted ALC!
Spice Rating 🤍 clean romance 💗 closed door/ fade to black ❤️ spicy content (a few detailed scenes) ❤️🔥 explicit, play-by-play (major part of the plot) 🖤 graphic, more than vanilla
Book 4 of Apocalypse series. You need to read in sequence because it's a continuous story with cliff hanger endings. It's also a good idea to read all the other Mate Games series because a lot of the characters make appearances and it's like everything is part of a grander mega arc, so knowing all the players and what has happened along the way will make it easier to keep track of everyone.
We get Horsemen on the hunt, ready to make amends. We have team PFFN working their angles trying to stop the end of the world (and giving us amazing moments with all our past friends and fave side characters). Lucifer is working his agenda, which I'm not entirely sure what the end goal is. And the horsewomen and the princes are doing their own things and will probably be more prominent in the next installment. I have all kinds of brain swimming questions now that we are one book away from the end and 3 full series worth of information and machinations are swirling together towards the final climax.
The audio is performed in duet by a full cast of amazing talents with several cameos sprinkled in for swoon and joy (my faves are back even if only for a few lines): - Stella Hunter as Merri - She has gotten herself into quite the situation (though it takes a bit for her to realize it). The ending cliff is definitely a doozy for her and I am eager to see what happens. JF Harding as Sin (Famine) - The man can grovel. He is the first to try and apologize, though he's kept in the doghouse for a bit before she believes him. Jason Clarke as Chaos (War) - Seeing Chaos in his element is fun. Seeing him go all protective and frustrated over our girl is delightful. James Joseph as Malice (Pestilence) - I love how he's opening up, even if Merri is distancing herself by seeking sustenance only. There are more puzzle pieces in his story that have to align before our tale is complete, next book will be interesting. Shane East as Grim (Death) - It's his fault the guys are in the situation they are in and once he realizes his error, trying to correct the situation is his primary focus. The man has a lot of groveling to do. Christian Fox as Lucifer - I honestly don't know what to think about him anymore. We learned a lot of things and there are developments... I am eager to see how it all shakes out in the final book.
Personal 3 cheers for Janine and her reorganization/process efficiency efforts in the underworld. I get to hear Hades say her name a bunch and it makes me silly happy every time.
I requested and was provided with and advanced copy of the audiobook. These are my honest opinions.
GRIM: The Mate Games (Book 4 in the Apocalypse Series) has ARRIVED and ohhh boy… chaos never looked so good.
We jump in right where Malice left off—apocalypse incoming, consequences exploding, and Merri? She’s in maximum danger mode, babe. The Four Horsemen are out here scrambling to save her, every OG fave from the MG universe pops in to help stop the literal end of the world, and the Devil is… well, being the Devil and cooking up his Antichrist. Meanwhile Merri is over here nursing a shattered heart.
And even with the world literally crumbling, these men are laser-focused on finding her and fixing the disaster they made of her heart. Cue the groveling. The delicious, knee-dropping, ego-crushing groveling. Nothing hits harder than watching these walking disasters fall apart over one tiny succubus.
This book? A full-blown adventure—wild, emotional, and packed with cameos that had me squealing. Especially when you-know-who, our favorite priest, strutted in like he owned the place.
And the audiobook? Chef’s kiss. Stella Hunter, Christian Fox, Jason Clarke, JF Harding, James Joseph, and Shane East deliver a duet-style, full-cast performance that is straight-up auditory magic. Your ears will thank you. 🔥📚✨
Things to know

Thank you so much to the authors for the ALC/ARC. I am so grateful for the chance to listen to this amazing cast while reading along.
I love a bit of forced proximity and this book has it in spades. Lucifer has well and truly won me over and is inching his way to a three way tie with Sin and Grim for favourite mate. This is partially down to what we learn about his character in "Grim" but also Christian Fox's performance. Fox's comedy timing is on point and he balances the absolute certainty Lucifer has in himself and his plan with flashes of vulnerability as he starts to fall under Merri's spell. Lucifer is giving Sin a run for his money in the most charming mate stakes for sure. I'd have folded at the first bite of those cookies even if they were "laced with lies".
This series has been one of my favourite productions and the casting is perfect for each character, many of whom are pulling double duty due to the large roster. This is a multi crossover series and having only read a few books across the previous Mate Games I was getting a little lost as to who was who, but I 100% need more Remy in my life.
This is so hard to speak about while remaining spoiler free but there are some developments put in motion which I hope are going to lead to another twist in the final book. I was thrilled at the change in certain dynamics but with only one book left I'm dying to see how this is all going to resolve itself after those last few chapters!
My interpretation of the star system; 3 stars - I enjoyed it; would read the author again 4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series 5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely until I finished it and it is one I will re-read
Grim picks up right where Malice left off, and from page one I was already stressed, emotional, and fully hooked again. I can’t say too much without entering spoiler territory, but this installment is packed with turmoil, tension, and nonstop emotional chaos.
Lucifer plays a huge role in this book, and the stakes feel higher than ever. The Four Horsemen are reeling, desperate, and doing everything in their power to get Merri back and you can feel every ounce of their panic and fear. Meanwhile, the scenes between Merri and Lucifer are intense, dramatic, and absolutely impossible to look away from. It’s messy, it’s painful, it’s delicious, and it keeps you completely locked in.
And the audiobook? Once again, this full cast absolutely delivers. • Stella Hunter as Merri is gut-wrenching in this one… you feel every moment of her pain, confusion, strength, and heartbreak. • Shane East as Grim brings all the intensity, frustration, and emotional conflict you’d expect from him. • Jason Clarke as Chaos captures that feral, protective energy while still showing the cracks in his armor. • James Joseph continues to give Malice that softer, hesitant edge that makes him stand out. • JF Harding as Sin brings so much heart and devotion to his performance, it’s impossible not to feel for him.
They’ve all embodied these characters so completely that it feels like they are the Horsemen. The emotional weight in this book hits even harder because of the cast’s performances. Truly a top-tier audio experience.
Messy, dramatic, tense, addictive, Grim pulls you straight into the storm and doesn’t let you go. And now I’m absolutely ready for whatever comes next in this series.
I’m so glad to be back in this apocalypse world and I couldn’t stop listening to this installment of the series. “Grim” is action packed, steamy and thrilling why choose paranormal romance that was unputdownable.
Merri and the four horsemen are still deep in their mission to stop the apocalypse from happening and we’re still given a bunch of twists and turns in this series. Just when I thought I had it figured out, Meg Anne and K. Loraine threw a plot twist I didn’t see coming. I loved how much strong Merri grows in this story personality and power wise. She finds herself and is going to be unstoppable when it comes to ending this war that was started. Each of the Four Horsemen were great but Grim really shines through when he realizes what Merri means to him personally. And the steamy scenes in this book were great and they definitely turned up the heat. I also loved how they brought characters from the other series to work together and stop the world ending. And that ending has me counting down the days until the last book is released.
This full cast is absolutely amazing and I could not stop listening to them bring this story alive. Stella Hunter was amazing bringing the brave and confident Merri to life and including voicing my favorite character, Lilith. James Joseph, J.F. Harding, Shane East and Jason Clarke were amazing as the Four Horsemen and reprising their roles from the previous series. Christian Fox is fantastic as the sinister Lucifer.
It's the apocalypse, and the MCs have lost the plot. Merri is mad at the guys. They deserved it and have some apologizing to do, especially Grim. With nowhere to go, she turns to her last option and walks right into a trap. Grim is in denial for most of the book and blames Merri for her predicament. Like it didn't take five to tango. I wanted to shake him. While the rest of the guys are running around like angry chickens. Finally, I get some kind of passion from the guys, just a little too late.
Plot-wise, nothing went as I expected. Dang it, the devil is charming. Lucifer has had a whole personality transplant. Think less psycho and more playful flirt. Things between Merri and Lucifer felt almost cozy, if it weren't for the apocalypse and the fact that he was holding her captive. They sort of clicked. The banter was good; they were teasing each other and having deep conversations. Things got a little weird with creepy monsters on the loose, setups, and a very frustrating game of hide-and-seek between the Horsemen and their allies. I really enjoyed seeing the previous MCs again.
Grim was great. The plot twist will leave you gasping. I know I sure did. Before this book, no one could have seen the twist coming. However, during this book, Meg and Kim were dropping hints, basically slapping us in the face with it. When the big reveal happens, everything clicks. I can't believe this turn of events. I have so many feelings. I'm excited to see how Merri's story ends. There's only one more book before the end. Here's to hoping it comes sooner rather than later.
Well, hell and hot dayum I am loving the Apocalypse Meg Anne and K. Loraine have written! Grim is a gripping, wild, angsty, hysterical, and spicy romp that continues the misadventures of Merri and her mates, the four horsemen. I loved the emotional turmoil and challenging character arc for Grimsby in this book. As the broodiest, most stubborn, most isolated, and most sharp-tongued of all Merri’s men, Grim sure had a lot of soul-searching and epic groveling to do. With captivating twists and turns, spicy dream walks, and amazing character cameos, Grim is a must-listen. Meg and Kim draw you in with their enchanting storytelling, vivid imagery, complex characters, and delicious spice! They set the bar high, then obliterate it time and again in this series, and I’m here for all of it!
This flipping cast!!! Stella Hunter, James Joseph, Jason Clarke, J.F. Harding, Shane East, and Christian Fox slay every single time! Meg & Kim truly spoil us with this powerhouse cast, plus cameos by Teddy Hamilton, Aaron Shedlock, John Hartley, Samantha Brentmoor, and Lauren Landa. My ears are in instant bliss anytime I press play on a Mate Games title. This duet style, full cast narration is out of this world. Buckle up, cuz they’re not done yet, but I do get a bit more emotional with each book as we near the end. I cannot wait for Lucifer! 😏
Grim is book 4 of The Mate Games Apocalypse by Meg Anne and K Loraine. Performed by Stella Hunter, Shane East, JF Harding, Jason Clarke, James Joseph with special appearances by Teddy Hamilton and Christian Fox.
What can I say about this book? The moment it hit my email yesterday I started it. I paused everything else I was listening to just to be able to get back to Merri and her men and what an adventure it was.
The whole book was an adventure. But like the best kind of adventure. There were cameos from the whole series that made me giddy. Especially when our favorite priest showed up!
I can’t wait for the last book in this series. I’m already planning a relisten and start from the beginning with Waking the Watcher. There’s a whole outline in the Mate Games Continuum that lists the whole order of the universe and I can’t wait to dive into that next!
As always the casting of everyone is spot on! Meg and Kim are the best at choosing the talent for their characters. Everyone is absolutely perfect in each role and I can’t say that enough.
If you’ve never read/listened to The Mate Games… why not? You’re missing out on some yummy yummy goodness!
Book 4 is here!!! This series is AMAZING in audio and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the next installment. The tension really ramps up in this book and I love how we see our girl Merri’s confidence grow.
I can’t tell you anything specific about the plot other than I highly recommend going in blind! There is a jaw dropping twist that I never saw coming! There is action and suspense and yes, very steamy scenes.
This series/universe is by far one of my all time favorites on audio. We have this amazing cast who all bring so much to these characters. They are so damn funny and grumpy and growly (and yes even emotional at times!) The spicy scenes are so hot - there is a 100 % chance you are blushing at least once listening to this book! 🥵🫠🤯😏
Be sure to listen to the bloopers at the end!!
⚠️The Content/Trigger Warning List is EXTENSIVE…so if you think of it more as a menu…I guarantee there will be something here you love 🔥

We pick up right where we left off from Malice. I don’t want to say too much specifically about the story because we’re literally right in the middle of it, but I found myself chuckling quite a bit, even at the seriousness of what’s going on in the story, so while it is dark, I love how it’s still lighthearted in a sense as well. I love how devoted the guys are and the effort they go to. And Kim and Meg always get me with their twist at the end of each book.
The Mate Games is an absolutely powerhouse when it comes to the narration and production. The casting is impeccable, the duet/full cast style is amazing, sound effects and little bits and pieces of extra that go in just make it that much more of a production and performance and this world/saga will forever be my favorite because of it.
Grim: The Mate Games by K Loraine and Meg Anne hooked me from the very beginning. This installment dives deeper into the competition, the alliances, and the growing tension between the characters. Grim himself is everything I hoped for—dark, dominant, fiercely protective, and impossible not to fall for. I loved seeing how his connection with the FMC evolves as the stakes in the Games get higher and the danger around them tightens. The twists in this book kept me guessing, and the emotional moments hit just as hard as the spicy ones. The world-building continues to grow in such a vivid, exciting way that I always felt fully immersed. This whole series has been such an incredible journey, and I cannot wait for the final book to see how everything comes together. If you love high-stakes paranormal romance with heat, heart, and a brutal competition backdrop, this one is a must-read!.

I loved this surprising and spellbinding story! It is filled with delicious suspense as Merri runs from the heartbreak brought by the rejection of her four horsemen. Her broken heart and their regret fall amid Lucifer’s attempts to make her his own and bring about the apocalypse. I loved the tension and the emotional turmoil that fills Grim as he continues to battle with the feeling that he is not deserving of a mate and the revelation that Merri is it for him – for all of them, actually. It was a spectacular journey, and I couldn’t stop listening!
This incredible story was made even better by the best cast of narrators that you could imagine. They add so much depth, emotion, snark, and spice to an array of wonderfully colorful characters. Stella Hunter, Shane East, Jason Clarke, James Joseph, JF Harding, and Christian Fox are incredible in the lead roles. The supporting cast is amazing too.
This installment in the Horsemen saga takes everything you thought you knew about fated mates, redemption arcs, and the apocalypse, and cranks it up to a breathtaking, heart-pounding level.
Told through the raw, aching voice of a Horseman who believes himself soulless, this story delivers a perfect blend of angst, action, and devotion. The emotional stakes are sky-high from the very first page: he rejected Merri to “save” her, only to watch her fall straight into Lucifer’s grasp. The guilt, the longing, the desperate determination to make it right, every word pulses with intensity.
The dynamic between the four Horsemen is a standout. Their bond, fractured but unbreakable, adds depth and tension as they unite to save the woman who is their purpose, their heart, and their hope. Each protector’s role beautifully mirrors Merri’s importance to them: Chaos guarding her body, Sin her heart, Malice her mind, and our narrator, who is flawed, fierce, and heartbreaking, her soul.
As the fourth book in the series this is not the place to start, it is so not a standalone series, all the books must be read in order. Otherwise nothing will make sense and you get all sorts of spoilers. OK? Right, with that said we are so close to the end of the series, just one more book after this! (I think) We have the usual shenanigans from Merri and her Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (Chaos, Sin, Malice and Grimm), with a mix of Lucifer and a host of previous characters making appearances too. I love the banter and language that continues throughout all of these books, such as the opening line in chapter one. When all of this series is done I'll need to go back and read it all again. Yes, it is that good!!.

This book set the stage perfectly for the finale, and I’m already grieving that we’re nearing the end of one of my favorite universes. Every series in this world has delivered elite MMCs, funny badass FMCs, and this one kept that streak alive.
I was so over Cole and Christian and their sketchiness, so the cliffhanger at the end of Malice had me downright thrilled...and even more excited for Grim’s book. Daddy Death delivered in this book. Also, the cameos were my favorite! Seeing familiar faces (and stutter *my heart*) pop in made me kick my feet. Crombie and Lilith remain pure joy for me.
And the ending…I am a committed Lucifer apologist, and I cannot wait for his book.
The Mate Games is an immersive, spicy, paranormal ride. If you love reverse harem, PNR, delicious smutty smut, this entire series is for you.
Normally I love the main pain series. I'm not sure I don't know. There were parts of it that were really good and funny. Of course. I adore Rennie, I adore Ben. You can tell that the marrier for Remy is not the same. And I'm not sure here there, as I have to look, but he kind of spoke too fast. And that character and sounded like overly gay, like overtly feminine. I don't know, not really gay but overtly feminine. And at this extinct off, that's not the way we reme from the books with portray. So I had a hard time getting into that book, but I still love the antics. Especially between sunday and her group that was funny.I did like the entrance between the four horsemen and I didn't really get it when started making lucifer into a good guy.I couldn't really see it happen.I really couldn't, but it could work out
Grim absolutely shattered and consumed me. Watching the fallout from Grim rejecting Merri was devastating, especially knowing it drove her straight into Lucifer’s grasp. The emotional tension between Chaos, Sin, Malice, and Grim was intense, with guilt, regret, and desperation bleeding through every scene. Merri’s growth was powerful; her strength and resilience while trapped made me admire her even more. Grim’s struggle with feeling unworthy of love added heartbreaking depth. The rescue mission was suspenseful, steamy, and unforgettable. The audiobook is next-level incredible. Stella Hunter, Shane East, Jason Clarke, J.F. Harding, James Joseph, Christian Fox, and Teddy Hamilton deliver stunning performances. Each voice perfectly captures the emotion, menace, passion, and heartbreak. The full-cast format made this story completely unputdownable.
If there was a scorecard for sexy banter, Grim's book would get top scores! And oh man, I adore Merri, our fmc. You can't help but root for her and cheer her on as she holds her ground after the events of the last book and the plot twists in this one. She is a fighter, an empath, a lover and a bringer of world ending men to their knees. And Merri's men, well they spend this book trying to prove the truth of their feelings, each in their own bumbling but adorable way, making way for the most perfect nickname given by the most unlikely of people.
I would note that this book/series definitely requires you to read the other Mate Games universe books first. And for those who have, enjoy all the cameos!
