Her past was stolen. His refuses to let him go. Together, they will break the chains that bind them.
Rue doesn't know her real name, her age, or who she was before King Malrion claimed her. For the last ten years, she has survived in the crumbling halls of Grimhold as a servant, tending to the castle's every whim-- and the King's endless desire to hurt and humiliate her. When an act of cruelty pushes her too far, an ancient power stirs within her bones... and something begins to awaken.
Corvus Cromwell has served a tyrant for thirty years. Loyal, calculating, and burying the truth of his past-- the reason why his people, the Ravokar, exiled him and left him to die as an infant. When the quiet servant girl, Rue, begins to defy King Malrion, Corvus notices something in her he had thought long dead. Rue is not what she appears. And neither, perhaps, is he.
As whispers of a rebellion within Grimhold begin to reach the King's ears, Rue and Corvus find themselves drawn together by more than their shared suffering. Their choices could alter the fate of their world-- or destroy them piece by piece.
Perfect for readers who love the epic worldbuilding of A Game of Thrones and the passionate longing of A Court of Thorns and Roses.
An exciting, dark fantasy debut filled with magic, adventure, and an achingly slow-burn romance, Sorcery and Sorrow begins a tale of survival, sacrifice, and learning to walk with the ghosts who haunt us.
Not your typical Romantasy. It did take me a bit to really get into the story but now I'm left anxiously waiting for the next book so I can have more of Corvis and Vaelan's story. I wish we had gotten more of their relationship in this book, or a little more of Vaelen's redemption storyline. I also wish we got a little more information on Ronan- I feel like he would have continued to be a great addition to the story.

This took me a little while to be sold into the story being laid out, probably because it’s written in third person and that not my usual reading style I enjoy- HOWEVER once I got over that I really began to dive into the book! The flashbacks of Vaelen, Corvus and Ronan were some of my favorite moments in the book, the twists and turns this book took me on was totally unexpected and now I feel like I am foaming at the mouth because I need to know what is going to happen! I can’t wait for the second book!
Although this genre is not my usual, I bought this book because the author is a relative. I'm so glad I did! The story brings you in right away, and it's hard to put down because you need to see it through to the end. The writing is a beautiful detail of imagery. I felt like I was watching scenes unfold. I can't wait to read the rest of Vaelen and Corvis' story.
