Remnants

Rate this book
The world has ended, yet Gia remains.

Among visions of the dead who do not know they are gone and a rising order that seeks to claim her, she struggles to survive in a world where nothing obeys the rules it once did. Haunted, hunted, and uncertain whether she is saviour or destroyer, Gia must face the truth that the fate of the Earth rests within her.
Remnants is a character-driven, emotionally rich novel set in the aftermath of a mysterious global collapse. Blending psychological drama with quiet, dreamlike science fiction, it follows Gia’s journey through a landscape where the boundary between life and death has dissolved. Part post-apocalyptic story, part spiritual odyssey, and part emotional mystery, it is a haunting, poetic tale about memory, healing, and what happens when the world falls apart from the inside out.

JUST TRY TO FIGURE WHO'S RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL THE DEATHS & THE FALL OF SOCIETY BEFORE THE LAST CHAPTER.

Remnants by Jondee Benson is a great work of fiction that has so many twists and turns just when you think you've figured it out who is responsible for the downfall of the world's governments and the loss of the population of whole towns, you'll be led down a different path that will keep you guessing throughout this post-apocalyptic suspense thriller until the end.

This book is well-written in the first person through the thoughts and experiences of Gia who is the sole survivor of the town of Oakwood where she worked at a small coffee shop as a waitress and rented a room from an older lady that was nothing less than a bed in a cement room with no windows and no amenities. When she wakes up one morning everyone in the town is dead including most if not all the pets and wildlife.

This is a story of struggles and hardships being the sole survivor with nothing but death all around you making it almost impossible to survive without losing your insanity intact.

With all the twists and turns in the storyline, you're going to thank you know what the plot is and who is responsible one minute, and then Jondee is going to open up another scenario and you'll be led down a different path figuring you finally have the story all figured out only to find out just how wrong you were. It's definitely a mind twister that will keep you on your toes throughout.

As one who enjoys a mystery, a post-apocalyptic story, and an original theme, this was a real story that puts your mind to the test. I hope you will enjoy this book as much as I did.

This story is about Gia, a girl who suddenly wakes up to a strange world where everything feels frozen at 12:02. Almost everyone around her is gone, the streets are silent, and only dead remains are left behind. She tries to survive with limited food, dark cellars, and the constant fear of being truly alone. Things get scarier when she starts feeling a strange presence, Maggie’s ghostly figure, and the shadow of a giant man who seems to know her.
The author built such a haunting atmosphere that I could actually feel Gia’s fear, silence, and loneliness. The writing makes you imagine every little sound, every foggy street, and that chill of being watched. I loved how survival and supernatural vibes were mixed together it gave the book a very unique mood. Some parts moved a little slow, but the suspense and the mystery kept me turning the pages. Gia’s emotions were written so real, I could feel her pain of being the only one left.
Overall, it’s a dark, moody and immersive read that feels like a mix of survival story and ghostly thriller. If you love atmospheric books that give you chills while also keeping you hooked, this one is worth picking up.
Thank you so much author for the free ARC! 💌

I loved reading Remnants! It is a perfect blend of sci-fi and dystopian world! This book left me surprised and confused at the same time — in a good way of course. 🤭

The book follows a young woman named Gia, as she navigates through a life after a major apocalypse that leaves her town extinct. Being the lone survivor she’s already going through a sense of grief and confusion, and the haunting visions of dead people that come to her mind does not make it easier for her.

The book is divided into 3 parts, each represented by an animal symbolism. And when you finish reading each part, you’ll realise how accurate those analogies are.

To be very honest, this book exceeded my expectations. I loved Gia! She’s smart and has the perfect amount of curiosity and survival instincts (guess that’s why she survived a whole mass extinction. 🤭) All her thoughts are well described in the book. Something about this book felt very realistic and totally foreign at the same time and I loved every single second of it.

It has the right amount of tension and suspense. It has an open ending which made me wonder about the choices of the main character.

Really looking forward to read more books like this. 💗

Trying hard for 0 spoilers, but its so hard to describe the book without them!
This story is well written, the prose was creative. It touches on a lot of subjects like loneliness and survival. Several weeks after finishing it, im still not 100% sure i know what was happening at the end, but in a good way not a confusing one. Lots of twists and turns.
Its set in 3 acts, and each one had its own flavor while blending them all together in the end.
0 spice, but plenty of relationship building. It wasnt necessary for the plot here so im glad the author didnt add it in for effect.
All over a good, solid read. Good Sophmore novel!

A blend of suspense and sci-fi dystopian. The prose is lovely and introspective, following Gia’s journey from desired isolation to forced isolation—and then to something entirely unexpected. The author builds a truly haunting world. The pacing is a bit slower but deliberate. The writing pulls you in ven when the plot veers into strange territory. Well worth the read!.

Gia might be ever so slightly crazy, but she’s a badass and I think she’s pretty cool. I love how the author made her almost extra human, if that makes sense? She doesn’t realise the consequences of her actions until it’s too late and then she’s got to deal with what she has and I think that’s so relatable. I love how character driven this story is. The subtle subplot of romance was also super cute!
