Eco Revolution: Climate Justice, Community, and the Fight for Our Planet
A humanized and eye-opening journey through the past, present, and future of one of the most crucial topics of our Climate change.
This is a time unlike any other in human history. With the ever-growing threat of the climate crisis looming and putting the whole world on the edge of its seat, we have not only entered into a brand new once-in-a-generation era of social and environmental justice advocacy — but the deep-rooted overlap between environmental crises and inequities that have been spotlighted in an unprecedented elevation of awareness.
This book chronicles untold sustainability history, highlights the stories of unsung eco-warrior heroes, and shares solutions for a more sustainable and equitable world. With 15 years of hands-on experience in the environmental activism space, award-winning environmental activist Maya Penn's unique voice has become one of the most sought after.
Eco Revolution explores our collective connection to the natural world through inherited ecology and Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) passed down through indigenous cultures throughout the world as people worked in partnership with naturally occurring ecosystems to create thriving, functional societies and how this has translated to our modern understanding about sustainability.
Penn will take a comprehensive look at the current green movements around the world and how sustainable living can be reclaimed via the work of these groups, and the ways in which we can deploy creativity to bring about real change. Finally, readers will be confronted by the future—and how we can remain optimistic in the midst of looming crisis.

This is truly an incredible read for anyone interested in learning more about climate change, the environment, and environmental justice - but honestly I think everyone should read it, regardless of experience or knowledge of these topics. Structured into chapters, with each chapter covering a different topic within the spectrum of environmental issues, it discusses in depth events that have led to the climate crisis, and intersection of our society's systematic issues with the environment. It provides perspectives from extremely talented and passionate activists on a variety of topics, which frames the narrative wonderfully. Each chapter of this book has so much to learn and to offer, and I truly think that this is a book to come back to over and over again as the world around us changes, and as the climate crisis continues. It is written so thoughtfully, intentionally, and passionately that I found it impossible to put down. In addition to the incredible perspectives provided, it also provides great starting points and guidance for people wanting to get more involved with environmental issues, making the journey of learning feel accessible regardless of the educational background readers come in with.

Quick Summary: An exercise in mindfulness and activism
My Review: Eco Revolution: Climate Justice, Community, and the Fight for Our Planet by Maya Penn is "A humanized and eye-opening journey through the past, present, and future of one of the most crucial topics of our time: Climate change."
About the Book: "This book chronicles untold sustainability history, highlights the stories of unsung eco-warrior heroes, and shares solutions for a more sustainable and equitable world."
In My Own Words: A history. A journey. A call. An answer. A movement. A hope. A life.
My Final Say: Eco Revolution was a call & response read. As a former CI/D of multi level grades, I could easily develop a class around the content. I particularly loved the author's voice. Her personal vignettes and revealing of her initial steps pulled me in from the start and grounded the heavy topics in a very relatable way.
I loved that this book was filled with a vast amount of information - from history to Q & As to experiences (from notable movers and shakers) to the realities of advocacy from a BIPOC perspective. This sensational book was a guide and a convicting force that I predict will do much to encourage awareness, as well as promote change. It was a no-excuses, hit-the-ground-running-right-where-you-are read. It was insightful, timely, and informative.
Other: This book put me in the mindset of One Earth: People of Color Protecting Our Planet by Anuradha Rao. Like the aforementioned, this book features voices united in a cause that benefits all. It will hold an appeal to YA and older individuals.
Potential readers will definitely gain knowledge and be encouraged, regarding climate justice, activism, and more.

4.5 stars
Eco Revolution was a really interesting read. I really enjoyed how the text was broken out into different section. Each section including questions to ask yourself. There were times when it read a little dry and textbooky but a lot of really great information was included. I also really liked that there were so many ways included throughout for a person to make differences when it comes climate change. Sometimes there is such focus on the problem and how large it is you are left feeling hopeless. The author did an amazing job of providing options that really range from the smallest changes that would be easy for anyone to that that are more significant.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
