Set in the original location of the outbreak - Madison, Wisconsin. Individual survivors find each other and combine for security and comfort. From an old woman to a three year old, we follow their sadness, triumphs, loves and losses. Olivia - the old matriarch who has the wisdom of old age. Craig - Cool, casual, prefers to stay in his self sustaining home. Addison - the teenager who latches on to Craig and the other woman.
The Army arrive by helicopter giving directions to where they should gather for help and assistance. But something is not right and suspicion mounts during their journey east. They find more travelers and learn that many are being held against their will up north. However, Aaron solves that problem in one simple act. They spend the winter back in Madison till spring arrives, when they head out west where they encounter the Sioux. How come so many of them lived? And what do they intend to do on the land? Their lives now become woven with an ancient people before they move south where tragedy arrives.
This story involves more violence in all it's forms but it how a post-apocalyptic life would be in a country where the right to carry arms is paramount to the action.
