this books really speaks on the stages of grief. it shows how grief can trigger an emotional, and mental breakdown that provokes hyper-sexuality. i hate a book where the protagonist is a complete martyr the entire story, but this widower is a different type. he irritated me, but anderson did a great job of making the reader feel for him at certain points. i loved marianne, she is completely inspired by audrey hepburn. that is very clear, and oozes through the entire story. if there was any truth to this fiction, i can see why anderson and audrey were never serious or a longterm couple. this writing reminds me of coetzee, who i also dislike very much, but it was somehow more bearable. i applaud the writing, although this lolita-esque story is not the healthiest.
