Privilege, poverty, death, and self-loathing; these are the backgrounds of the men of the internationally famous rock band, Sphere of Irony.

Dax Davies has one job to fulfill in the Davies household. Earn money at the family business. The problem is that the family business is illegal underground fighting.

From a young age, Dax and his brothers are groomed to become money earners in their father's club. Broken bones and bruises are commonplace. Their father pits the brothers against each other to 'toughen them up' for the ring. His future is in the cage, not on stage where he dreams of being.

Kate Campbell loves one thing in life. Well, two. Soccer and Dax Davies. Growing up in the poorest part of London, soccer is her personal escape from reality and the fact that Dax doesn't seem to know she exists. She figures if she can be good enough at it, maybe she can get away from Hackney, and leave the poverty behind.

Kate doesn't plan on ever getting a chance to know Dax as more than an unattainable dream. After a mutual acquaintance brings them together, it only takes one ill-fated night at the fight club tear them apart.

***This is book 2 in the Sphere of Irony Series. It can be read as a standalone. This is a spin-off of the Famous Series***

Heather C. Leigh is the author of the Amazon best selling Famous series. She likes to write about the 'dark' side of fame. The part that the public doesn't get to see, how difficult it is to live in a fishbowl and how that affects relationships.

Heather was born and raised in New England and after spending 15 years in Atlanta, GA, currently lives north of Houston, TX with her husband, 2 kids, and French Bulldog, Shelby.

Heather loves the Red Sox, the Patriots, and anything chocolate (but not white chocolate, everyone knows it's not real chocolate so it doesn't count) and has left explicit instructions in her will to have her ashes snuck into Fenway Park and sneakily sprinkled all over while her family enjoys beer, hot dogs, and a wicked good time.

My favorite authors are Dan Wells, Ken Follett, and Stephen King.

Happy reading!

This was a first read for me by Heather C. Leigh and I have to say I am hooked. I was worried that being the second book in the series that I would be lost starting with book 2, but that was so not the case. I started reading and never felt like I was missing anything. This book covers a broad spectrum of time with the characters, but Heather has a way of making it flow and you not even realize that the story covers that much time at all.

Dax is a young man that was brought up fighting in his dad's underground fighting ring. Dax's father had no remorse for him or any of Dax's 3 brothers. He raised them to live by his rules and they all knew that they better not break them because they would have to pay for it later. Dax was determined to get out from under his dad as soon as he could so when he was 18, he moved from their little rundown town in London to the U.S. Dax and his best mate, Adam made their way by playing in a band with 2 American's. They played in numerous bars hoping that one day they would get their big break.

Kate and Dax grew up together, but Kate thought that she was never pretty enough to catch the attention of Dax while they were in school. To her dismay, Dax was very aware of her but just never paid any attention to his attraction to Kate. Once he acted on his feelings for Kate, there was an unmistakable connection between the two. Kate was offered a scholarship at a college in the U.S. so she moved to the states around the same time as Dax. Dax and his band get their big break and start to become famous. Kate and Dax keep in touch and get to know each other a little better until Kate's first roommate squeezes her way between Kate and Dax, even though Dax had no interest in her. Kate wanted to listen to her heart but the tabloid pictures and news clips that she sees make her believe otherwise.

Kate and Dax stop talking to each other and actually have several on and off moments in their relationship that make them realize how much they mean to each other. After Dax makes Kate miss out on playing in one of her most important games of her career as a college player in soccer, he realizes that his popularity with the band is no good for Kate and he breaks things off with her. I so wanted to punch Dax for doing this and tell him not to let her slip through his hands. They made such a great couple and were so good for each other that I was rooting for them the whole time. Dax continues to keep tabs on Kate but never makes contact again with her. Laila, the roommate continues to cause problems and stalk Dax even though he always tells her to get lost. She never takes the hint and does everything in her power to make it look like they are in a relationship.

Dax and Kate end up going their own way. When Kate gets picked up for the Olympic team from the UK, no one over dreamed that Dax and her paths would cross again. For me, I was so excited!!! LOL. I love how Heather kept you so drawn into this story. I zipped right through this one in no time. So glad that there was a HEA as well. Thanks Heather for a great read and look forward to more from you!

First glimpse we get into this story is Dax, his father and his fucking rules. Dax and his brothers play along, not that they really have a choice, with their fathers underground fighting. Dax grows accustomed to the rules and that way of life but promises himself to follow his dreams of becoming a rock star no matter what.
Kate. The invisible, boring girl. Well this is how she thinks she is and Dax. Well, Dax doesn't really see her at all. Kate has been in love with him for so long and always from afar. Kate also promises herself to follow her goal of becoming a professional soccer player.

"I allow myself to imagine getting out of this place to have a life of my own. Where I get to choose what I do, who I fuck, and where no one else will have a goddamn say."

Through a mutual friend, Dax does finally notice Kate, and when he does, he really, really notices her, he can't stop noticing her. They are complete opposites, he's a temper mental rockstar and she's the laid back, innocent soccer player. Their relationship is sexy, difficult, heartbreaking, heartwarming and so much more. They possibly have every force against them and need to fight for their love. Dax needs to break the habit and mentality of those idiotic rules, and Kate needs to decide if she's strong enough and just how much she wants their relationship. This is a far from easy love, but for me they had a strong attraction and connection from the start. This is possibly my favourite part of the book, this is such a strong defining moment of their dynamic relationship, well before they really got started.

'At least I got that right. "Well then, apparently I'm not as stupid as some might say".
Kate's fingers untwist from her hair, settling on her hips. Lush, ruby lips turn down in the corners and her eyes narrow. She looks downright offended. "Who says you're stupid? You're in my advanced maths class, so I know that can't be true."
For once in my life I'm speechless. No one ever gives me the benefit of the doubt or defends my intelligence.'

This is my first book by Heather C Leigh and I really loved it. Dax and Kate's story spans over a few years. I did really love it but know what I hated? and it's in it quite a lot! THE ANGST! Oh lord. My heart can take a little angst/suspense, the kind that starts and ends in a chapter or two. There is a lot of angst in this story and I hated it. But how can you NOT give this book 5 stars? Oh and the villains in this book? You will want to physically reach in and strangle them, even the most angelic of people will want to strangle them with their own hands. But the friendships, the heartbreak, the love, the struggles, the laughter and just life in general! are all so relatable in this book. I am really invested in all the characters in this, the rest of the band and even Dax's brothers. I really, really, really want to read the next book in the series so you know, less angst please and thank you very much Heather!

This author just about hit the nail on the head with this book – she pitched the perfect shot, got the characters bang to rights and left me on the right side of giddy – great work!
While the first book in the series was Adam’s story, we were of course originally introduced to Dax too.
This time Dax is up and honestly if I tried to explain all the little foibles that he has that make him such a great leading man you would be settling in for the night – he is far from straight forward.
He is a glorious specimen of a man but he is far from perfect in fact he would drive a saint to drink – he is pig headed and obstinate, I mean he really takes the biscuit for digging his heals in. But then again he has spent much of his life living a life he didn’t want.
From a young age he has lived the life his father desired, the path that he set forward for Dax and one on which Dax was a mere passenger but one on which his father could relish. He never looked to be what his father had determined but it took time an determination for him to eventually find a way to be the man that he wanted to be and I have to say that one thing that Dax definitely has going for him is determination – he is so damn stubborn!
Dax and women have a one way relationship – his way! He is alpha to his core and he revels in his control. But when he meets Kate the woman that has lusted after him for so long but of whom he has been unaware, he is rocked by the fact that she refuses to accept his demands, she will not allow Dax or any other man to dictate her or any aspect of her life to her and I have to say that I loved the dynamic of the two of them together.
She may have known literally from the minute she saw him that there was something about him that drew her in but he didn’t even know she was on the planet but I give her 10 out of 10 for endurance because she played a waiting game and worshipped him from afar, not knowing what her adoration would amount to really but when they eventually met- properly this time there was no denying the attraction between the two of them
Together they are just downright glorious, they are just so volatile, they fight, make up and adore each other and all in equal measure. And they made me smile together but I have to admit that I actually developed a bit of a soft spot for Dax on his own.
The ending is fantastic and probably my favourite part of the book – no, not because it was the end because I could have read about the two of them all night but because it was what I wanted for them both.
While this is a standalone novel – it does n include other characters from book one, so if you haven’t read the first book, it might be worth you doing so.
All in all a great read.

I was sucked into this book right from the very beginning. I usually take notes while I am reading so that I can remind myself what I like and didn't like about the book. However, with this amazing story, I never stopped to take notes. I was so wrapped up in their story that I totally forgot to take a break.

My heart went out to Dax from the very beginning, His dad is a total uncaring, jerk (not the word I want to use). He drilled his "rules" into Dax from a very young age, encouraging all the anger and violence he could. But inside, Dax has a beautiful heart. He just needs to get away from him environment for it to show. Kate has shown him that maybe things don't have to be the way they are. She gave him the inspiration to be better.

I"m not sure how I feel about Kate. She's a runner and that personality type bothers me. It seems rather immature to run every time something doesn't go your way. To me, she had a lot of maturing to do throughout the story. To me, it's hard to trust that a relationship will last if one of them is a runner. However, by the end of the book, Kate convinced me that she was in this for the long haul.

I loved watching these two grow and mature into an amazing couple. There were so many times Dax could have said "screw it" but he always seemed to make the right choices in his live.

I highly recommend this amazing story to anyone. It's one of the best reads so far this year.

4.5 Stars!

This book was awesome. This is not a new author for me but she is one that I keep coming back to when she releases something new. This book is number two, although a standalone, in a spin off series where she rocked it in her Famous series.

This book was so good. Sexy, sweet. suspenseful, and with quite a few twists, this book will grab you from the beginning while you devour it whole in one sitting like me. This author has a way of creating a romance that is intense, edgy, and thrilling.

This is Kate and Dax's story. A love story that faced obstacles, battles, and was a slower build. Their love and relationship was never rushed, taking paces to ensure the ups and downs they endured led to a happy ending. Their story was beautifully flawed but perfect.

These two had tons of chemistry and a connection like no other. I loved Dax. He was so hard, alpha, and strong on the outside, but so beautiful and soft on the inside that I fell immediately. I also liked Kate though she frustrated me at times but by the end, she proved herself and won me over.

I highly recommend this book.

*ARC received from author*

I know I will be in the minority with my thoughts and feelings about this book so please take everything here with a grain of salt.

First, I requested this as I really enjoyed Heather’s Ricochet series. Second, I went in this blindly, not even refreshing my memory with the synopsis; therefore, I didn’t know what to expect. Third, I didn’t realize the characters are quite young, even younger than most NA MC’s that I usually enjoy. And fourth, not only were the MCs young, the timeframe is something that I didn’t expect. I’m more used to the story line moving fast forward a bit to a number of years so the MCs then are at least in their mid-twenties or older at the crucial point of the story. Such is not the case here.

Dax and Kate’s history started from when they were in their teens and the story took us thru their ups and downs in a span of 3 or so years with small gaps in between. It took us from Dax’ fighting days to his musician days, and Kate being involved in soccer all that time and pretty much in love with Dax all that time.

The story line was decent. The MC’s were decent. Their story was laid out realistically, showing the (potential) pitfalls of long-distance relationships, of young relationships, and of fame-filled relationships. It’s who/what one can expect from an NA read. It was me who wasn’t able to connect with the MCs so I couldn’t fully buy into their angst. I really wish I can say I loved this one, but sadly no.

KIM'S REVIEW
5 STARS

We all have regrets about our up bringing and maybe even hard feelings where our parents are concerned. But no one needs to be brought up the way Dax has been.
At 18, he's working through his last year of high school and working to keep his dad happy. Something he and his brothers have had to do from the time they were born. (Don't ask me where his mom is because all I got from the book is she was completely disinterested.)
Bordering on abuse, Dax and his brothers are taught that fighting is a good thing. Using fists and rage to get ahead in life is the only way.
4 ultimate rules. Must always be obeyed. And the fight must be won or there will be no reward. And the reward always involves getting naked with a woman. For an 18 year old young man....What a bargaining chip.
Kate has loved Dax from the age of 7. Now that she's older and a little wiser...Nope, he can still render her speechless.
But she's invisible to him. She always has been. Kate thinks she's plain and average and she plays soccer so she also knows her body is to 'sporty' to catch the eye of someone like Dax.
But then it happens and she completely captivates Dax.
There are trials.
There is the life of an up and coming musician.
And there's trauma that takes Kate to a place she never thought she'd be.
But through it all, there's Dax and Kate.
Can they work through it all and come out the other side better?
Strike is a wonderful story and will touch your heart and make you gasp out loud.

Strike is the second book in the Sphere of Irony series, and it does the series proud.
Here's what I liked about it: ***Kinda-sorta some spoilers*****

1)The beginning pulls the reader right into the lives of Dax Davies and Kate Campbell. I think this is one of Leigh's strong points as a writer. All of her works have such intriguing beginnings that the reader is almost instantly engaged with the text. Strike immediately sets the tone for the rest of the book and shows the reader who Dax and Kate are and presents one of the problems the couple is going to have to overcome to have a HEA.

2) Strike does not rely on Incite to keep the reader interested. Without a doubt, Adam and Ellie's love story is of extreme interest to fans of the series, so most would want to hear more about them in Strike. Many writers would use the next novel in the series to keep the original romance (Adam and Ellie's) as a semi-focal point, rehashing details from a different perspective. Leigh doesn't do this, and frankly, I'm grateful because this story is about Dax and Kate, not Adam and Ellie. Readers already know what happens to them, so why go over it again? In Strike, the focus is on Dax and Kate, and what happened in Incite is only mentioned, briefly skimmed over.

3) Dax and Kate are well-rounded characters. They both come off as real people because they have the same insecurities and worries that almost all people have. They met as kids and slowly fell in love, and when they inevitably break up, there was heartache and growth on both sides. For once, it was nice to see that the male main character didn't whore around to make himself feel better. Dax doesn't try to bang his way through groupies to ease his pain. It was refreshing and showed how much he loved Kate and his personal, emotional growth.

4) Short and wicked hot sex scenes. I know it sounds bad, and I'll probably take some flack for saying this, but I'm so glad that Leigh wrote the sex scenes like she did. They are quick, intense couplings that, I think, show how those in their early 20s get down. Not every couple spends hours with foreplay and dirty talk; sometimes people just fuck (excuse the language...lol). There is nothing as sexy as a guy that cannot wait to get inside of a girl that he just does what he needs to do to get her ready to take it (sorry...again...). Also, good for Kate for taking the initiative to "prep" herself while Dax is busy undressing and grabbing protection. The man doesn't always have to be the one with busy fingers.

Since I was given an ARC, I won't list what I had a slight problem with because it might change before release. However, what I will say is that in no way do my little hiccups warrant any real negativity. They story is well written and engaging. It is totally worth adding to your "to read" list.

Thanks to the author for a copy to read and review!

I loved it! It reminded me a bit of Dominic by L.A. Casey.... just a whole lot less cuss words and fighting. ;) So if you liked that book then your sure to love this one.
This story is about finding "The One" when your too young to appreciate her, and you mess it up. Dax struggles with fame and a ridiculous stalker when he realizes in order to keep going, that he will have to let Kate go. Kate was resilient and I found there love to be a touching story. The whole rock group is kind of messed up in the same way but this is a stand alone so we didn't really get a peak into anyone else's story. I loved the London vocabulary, and the story was easy to follow and a bit engrossing. I was never bored with it. I felt Kate made a strong female character for Dax but anyone sensitive to cheating may not like parts of this. So warning to those women. Five stars for a wonderful book! I wish I had got part one.

I tried. I really did. But just not my cuppa (both H/h's immaturity, other women nonsensical angst and more drama than I can handle), so I had to put it aside.

Best of luck to the author and this may work more for others than it did for me.

Strike is book #2 in the Sphere Of Irony Series by Heather C Leigh.

Dax Davies has grown up only knowing one thing, which is underground fighting which his father runs. Dax and his three brothers have been fighting almost from birth and taught to live by their fathers rules and nothing more. In doing so Dax has learned to hide all his emotions and become cold and detached to everything around him. Dax's heart is with his music which he moonlights when possible.

Kate Campbell has been secretly in love with Dax since third grade but unfortunately he does not even realize she exists. Kate is not your typical girlie girl she is very invested in playing soccer and strives to make it her career.

Kate was introduced to Dax from her friend who started seeing Dax's best friend and fellow bandmate, which lead them to hanging around each other and finally a first kiss. Kate was finally gloating on the fact that Dax has begone to recognize her and she has her hopes up that maybe she will get the boy she has been in love with for all these years...that is until one night when with what she witnesses crushes her heart.

Fast forward and Kate is studying abroad in California on a soccer scholarship and Dax has left the fighting world and is also in California with his band making a go at it. Their paths cross and things seem to be going great but... will Kate and Dax be able to deal with the bands success and paparazzi? Will their love for each other be strong enough?

I really enjoyed this story it took us on the journey from high school crushes to separation reuniting and watching decisions being made that forced growth between these two main characters . I really felt everything they were going through, and yes I cried with them and wanted to shake them and say "Wake Up" at times but in the end this author brought us the perfect ending so yes I highly recommend reading this story.

Five Stars!! You won't want to miss this book!!!

I am a huge fan of Heather's work and was thrilled to get an ARC of Strike! I always find that Heather's stories have a strong compelling story line that pulls you in from the very start. This book was no exception to that. From the very first page I couldn't get enough of Dax and Kate!

Heather always writes her characters in a way that makes them feel so real to the reader. For example Kate's character is deeply insecure at the start or the book. She has lots of hangups about herself and how she thinks people view her. I could really feel the emotion that was trying to be portrayed and I felt as though all of the thoughts she was having were honest and real. I truly believe a girl in Kate's spot could honestly be going through all that. This is what makes Heather's characters feel that much more real. There is no pretending that they are perfect or that they have no insecurities. As a reader I want to be able to relate to them and having Kate struggle with her self worth really made that happen for me. I also liked that Kate grows as a character throughout the book. We of course don't want to see her character stuck so to speak so it was nice to see the changes that happen.

Now add Dax to the mix who is intriguing and sexy all on his own and you have a story that is not to be missed. The love story that comes out of these two characters and their struggles is one that you won't easily forget.

The biggest compliment I can give to the book is that it is now 2 days later and I still have not started another book. I usually read continuously and am always moving on to the next book. But when I come across a book that I truly love I can't seem to let it go. That is what happened for me with Strike! I keep thinking about it and re-reading my favorite sections and that alone says it all!!

I love books that show the main characters grow. This was a book that did exactly that.
Dax is a young man living an unhappy life because he exists under his father's shadow. He is not allowed to do anything that he wants. He simply lives and breathes for one purprose; to fight. Taking part in illegal fighting is what he must do in order to please his father. His only real passion is his music. Going to school is one of the small perks that he is allowed.
Kate is a young girl in love with a man that doesn't even know that she exists. She has watched Dax Davies from afar and her innocent feelings are her big secret. When a timid friendship starts blooming between them, Kate will realize that she is no longer invisible.
But things are never easy. Dax is living a life that Kate will never understand; a life that Dax is ashamed of. He has learned to hide his emotions; his face is an icy mask that he rarely ever drops. Kate craves to know him but will he let her? Will love be strong enough to keep them together?
What I really liked about the writing style is that the characters developed over the years. I liked that the time jumps made sense and added to the story instead of confusing the reader. Kate is a strong heroine and Dax is a hero that you cannot help but love.
The author took a simple storyline and turned it into something beautiful and heart-warming. There are twists, love, passion, jelaousy, drama and humor. Excellent work!
If you want something moving and entertaining, then this is for you.

4 Stars from me!

This review was originally posted on Cocktails and Books.

Dax, Dax, Dax.  There was so much to this man.  Behind that tough exterior was a guy worthy of his success and the love of the only woman he's ever wanted.

STRIKE gives us the story of Dax and Kate.  They grew up with each other in London, where Dax was famous as an underground fighter.  Dax was tied very tightly to his father's fighting ring and his rules.  It's those rules that keep him from Kate and what ultimately cost him to lose her.  But what made me love Dax was the fact that he kept trying to get it right with Kate.  He knew when he screwed up and he knew when he needed to step back to figure out his business before going after what he wanted, again.

I could immediately sympathize with Kate.  She's been in love with the guy since a teenager and she's struggled with the feelings she's had for him, even when he's broken her heart.  But instead of falling apart she went forward with her life.  She was stronger than I initially thought and I knew she was the perfect match for Dax.

I love this series.  Heather Leigh creates such fabulous characters that pull me into the story, and no matter what they do, become characters I can't get enough of.  I look forward to more from the author and from Sphere of Irony. This book was reviewed by a member of the review staff at Cocktails and Books. Growing up and being the person you wan to be may be hard, but trying to out grow where you come from in combination with a past you aren't proud of? Well, that can be harder.
For Dax being taught that fighting was all that you would ever be it was a hard for him to change his future. Living under his father's thumb and impossible rules, made a huge impact on his temper and his life.
Kate had always loved Dax, but knew he was unattainable. She to wanted to prove that she was more than just the nice girl from the wrong part of London. She wanted to be worth the man she loved and worth more than he childhood status.
This book spans their loves from the age of 17 & 18 to adulthood. The ups and downs the sacrifices and the love that would never be forgotten or replaced. Beautiful and perfect. Sexy and smoldering. Tear jerking and romantic. Dax will capture your heart and never let it go. You will love him even more as the book progresses all the way through the beautifully perfect ending.
Now Kate, yes we see her grow from insecure girl to proud and confident adult, but you will want to strangle her along the way. Be patient her growth is a beautiful thing to ne hold and you will love her more for it.
A story of young love that grows to an inseparable connection that will have you smiling for the rest of the night and day after you have finished.

When I first started this book I was not sure how I was going to get through it. I couldn't get into but not even a page later i was sucked in. I couldn't stop reading. every time you thought Dax and Kate are going to get their turn to be happy together something tears them apart.

Kate has had a crush on Dax for as long as she has known him. Only problem is that Kate doesn't think Dax even knows who she is. Due to some mutual friends Dax and Kate start to hang out. Just when Kate things this is finally her chance something comes between them. after some time apart Dax tracks her down and leaves his information with Kates room mate but she never gets it. They end up running into each other somewhere else. Dax was always taught to hide his feelings in the Rules his father kept. (Which He hated) With Kate he wasnt able to.

This book after the first hurdle I faced (I think it was just me) I fell in love. I wanted to smack Dax so many times and at the same time turn around and smack Kate too. They both frustrated me but kept me wanting to know what the next idiotic thing they could do would be. haha

I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, suspense, and heartbreak.

If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first
Incite (Sphere of Irony #1)

This is Kate and Dax’s story. Dax has been fighting ever since he could remember. That is how he earns his money. Kate loves Dax. But one night when Kate sees something she should never have seen can they ever truly be together? Can they still try and be together when their lives are pushing them in different directions? Were they doomed from the start? Will they be able to fight through the twist and turns and comes out of everything together and stronger than ever?

I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I recommend this book.

HOT HOT HOT!!
While Strike is book 2 in the series it can be read as a stand alone ( I will be picking up Incite book 1 though because no want to know about Adam!!!)

Book 2 follows the love affair of Fax and Kate across oceans, through college, a crazy room mate turned stalker. Through the struggles of Dax's life in the band. The story flowed well and pulled me in right away.
I give the read 5 stars.

Dax is an amazing alpha male who is throwing out all his rules, well all but the most important one ;
Protect what's yours!!!

This series is awesome, I love the guys in these books. I enjoyed Adams story but I completely fell in love with Dax. My heart ached for him throughout this book, because so much was out of his control. Kate was such a great other half for him, it was nice to see her work out her self esteem issues, which a lot of can relate to having. I am looking forward to see who is next Hawkeye or Gavin, but I'm sure it will be a great book.

The Sphere of Irony series by Heather C. Leigh is a unique rock star series. This series features two British members and two American members. The first two books in the series cover the British members. Their stories span from their youth in the ghetto’s of London to the glamourous life in LA. Both of the British members could not wait to escape their lives in England but paid a high price to do so. They left behind the most important things in their lives. They left the women that owned their hearts. Both Dax and Adam have completely different circumstances and situations that led them to their present lives in the Sphere of Irony. Their friendship is the only thing that keeps them going and connected to their pasts. Strike is Dax Davies story.

Dax was raised with very strict rules.

The Rules

1. Family First

2. Never Let Your Emotions Show

3. No fucking, shagging, wanking, sucking, or getting off for seven days leading up to a fight. You win, you get your reward.

4. Women who act like slags can be treated like slags, but never disrespect a proper lady.

5. Defend what’s yours.

Those rules dictated every moment of his young life. He was forced into the world of underground fighting by his father. The fights were more important than school, social life, and personal life. His only solace is his music. He and his best friend Adam have formed a band and are performing in local pubs when he has a night off from the fighting.

When Dax begins falling for his classmate Kate Campbell, it’s very hard to stray from the rules and get to know the girl that has captured his attention. When Dax finally gives in to his desires rather than following the rules it ends in disaster. His father and family is going to make sure that family comes first.

Dax finally escapes his family and the band heads to LA, Dax finally is feeling free. He is finally free to pursue Kate.

Kate Campbell has come to LA on a soccer scholarship. It is her ticket out of the ghetto and into a successful life. After Dax crushed her young heart, she wants nothing to do with him here in America.

The disappearance and reappearance of their friend Ellie will bring Dax and Kate together once again. They are finally going to explore the feelings they have for one another. They are building a life lasting relationship. But life has a way of butting it’s ugly head. Fame, stalkers, athletic careers, and “the rules” will tear them apart once again.

Dax will have to learn to let go of “the rules” and learn to show his real emotions. He will have to put “the rules” into a new perspective. He will find a whole new meaning to “Defend what’s yours”.

Heather C. Leigh wrote another fantastic book in the Sphere of Irony series. I liked that the book was connected to the first book Incite but was also completely different. The connections kept the Sphere of Irony intertwined without giving spoilers to the first book. Each of the characters in the Sphere of Irony are completely different and each one has an interesting story. I really liked Dax’s story. He had life lessons that he had to learn to deal with and make his own. The one thing readers would never question is his love for Kate.

I highly recommend Strike and Incite, the first book in the Sphere of Irony series.

I really loved Heather C. Leigh’s Ricochet series and was excited to hear about her upcoming release for a rock band series, Sphere of Irony. I haven’t read a rockstar book for a while and this was definitely a fantastic one. I loved the characters, the band as a whole and the growth of all the characters within. Dax Davies and Kate Campbell were wonderful and realistic.

We begin with Dax Davies, he is one of four sons and their father runs an underground fight club. Dax had his first bone broken at the age of eight by his older brother as their father watched. The Davies boys have five rules:
1. Family first;
2. Never let your emotions show;
3. No f*@king, shagging, wanking, sucking or getting off for seven days leading up to a fight;
4. Women who act like slags can be treated like slags; and
5. Defend what’s yours.

Now at eighteen, Dax has grown into a muscled champion and is known for using girls and his icy demeanour. Dax’s dad dictates everything in his life, from what he eats to who he fights. But Dax has a plan, with his best mate Adam, they’re going to be rockstars.

Kate Campbell has been in love with Dax since they first met at the age of seven. Kate believes she’s invisible to Dax, that he doesn’t even know she exists. But now it’s their final year at high school and Kate’s turned eighteen, her best friend tells her to make a move or forget about Dax. Kate is an aspiring football (soccer) player and has plans of her own, she wants a scholarship out of their hometown and away from Dax.

Adam is besotted with Ellie and when she walks up to Adam in the hallway at school, her friend is with her. Dax knows Kate and that they’ve been in school together for years, but why hasn’t he noticed how gorgeous she is?

The four start spending a lot of time together; Kate realises Dax isn’t cold and icy like he appears to be and Dax wants to be a better person when he’s around Kate. He doesn’t want to jump into bed with Kate because she’s special to him and he wants to do things the right way. But when Kate and her friend, Tasha go to watch Dax’s fight, she finds he’s being rewarded by another. Kate felt betrayed and heartbroken.

Time goes on and Kate and Dax head their separate ways, only to have fate throw them together again. Dax and his band have become rock gods and Kate is living her dreams of playing football and going to college. Will they meet up again? Can Kate forgive Dax, even though they weren’t officially an item? Will Dax change his womanising ways to be with Kate?

Follow along with the duo as they live, laugh out loud at their antics and cry along with Kate when the “incident” occurs. Watch Dax become the man everyone can be proud of and see how far they can follow their hearts.

Ms Leigh has a fabulous world, created around this band of misfits. Dax and Adam best mates have added a couple of Americans and great lads, Gavin and Hawke. I haven’t read Incite yet, which is Adam’s story and it didn’t matter one iota. This book spans over ten years and is an epic, intense love story and should be picked up by all romance readers.

4 stars.
ARC received for an honest review.

My introduction to Heather Leigh's writing was with her Ricochet series. I love the story and characters so much and I was thrilled when offered the opportunity to read Strike. I didn’t read the first book in the series but I didn’t feel like I am missing any information that took away from enjoying Strike.

Strike is about two young people who start in the ghettos of London and work hard to break out and make something of their lives.

Dax Davies and Kate Campbell go to school together. Dax is the big man on campus, so to speak and Kate loves him from afar. She never thinks that someone like Dax will ever be interested in her.
Dax’s home life is very unusual. On the outside there doesn’t seem to be much love although their father stresses that family is everything. Dax fights for his father’s underground fight club but his heart is with music.
Kate is a success in her own right. She is smart and a good soccer player. This combination takes her to Los Angeles on a college scholarship.

I like these characters. We see them from a young age and watch them grow into young adults. They both have a lot of baggage and end up hurting each other. I enjoyed living through their ups and downs for the most part. There are times that I didn’t get it though. It is hard to grasp that these two highly intelligent people would play some of the games they play.

The “I hate you. Now I want you” romance trope is getting overused in romance books in my opinion. I’m not talking about the basic plot device itself I’m talking about the number of times each character has to push the other away. Once or twice in a book should be enough but lately I notice authors are dragging these on again/off again relationships out for book years. It drives me crazy. Granted a couple of the rejections can be explained realistically but geez Louise. How can you really love someone and constantly push them away? And after so many pushes how does the other person not move on?

Anyway as much as the constant push pull of the relationship rubbed me wrong the characters have a lot of qualities that kept me interested and cheering for them to get it together. The support characters have a lot of substance and I can see where they can be flushed out more in future books.

What I really like about Ms. Leigh’s stories that I’ve read so far is she knows how to create great antagonists. Her bad guys are really bad guys (male or female). It is often the desire to see the villain get his/her comeuppance that kept me reading.

Setting the push/pull of the story aside, there is a lot going for this book...good characters, good writing and a little suspense. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good rocker story or, for that matter anyone who just likes a good story. I’m going to go back and read book one and I’m looking forward to reading the other books in this series.

I thought Heather C. Leigh outdid herself with Adam’s story and then she introduced me to Dax. He is almost perfect, with some faults. And oh what faults they are. His toughness and stubbornness could drive a woman crazy, which is exactly what they do to Kate. The sparks flew for Kate from the first time she laid eyes on Dax. He didn’t seem to even know she was alive, but that didn’t matter. She pined for him and adored him from afar. Then they met, I mean really met, and the sparks flew. Along with the sparks are all the insecurities they both have with each other and about themselves.

I had a lot of favorite parts while reading Strike, but the best is the ending. I have already been lucky enough to read Adam’s story so I knew what happen with him and Ellie, yet Heather brought their story into Dax and Kate’s story throughout the entire book. I loved the ending when she really tied Adam’s story into Dax’s. It seems like such a small thing, yet for me I went awww. It brought back my thoughts and feelings for Adam (who is still my favorite).

This is Dax’s story. It is the story of how a boy who is pressured by his father to perform when he doesn’t want to and to live his life the way he isn’t comfortable with learns to stand on his own. He takes his life and turns into what he wants. Dax is a strong, alpha male, who is definitely use to getting his way with the women. Until he meets Kate and she stands up to him. She is a strong female who knows what she wants from life and is not going to let anything, including a man, get in her way. The two of them together are wonderful. They fight, they love, and they support each other. Even apart they care about each other.

I love this series. Each book can be read alone, but of course they are better when read together. I cannot wait for the rest of the band members to tell their tales.

sigh. daxdaxdax.

This book had me holding back tears. Kate and Dax’s journey is more complex than simple love should ever be. Somehow this NA novel turns into a contemporary romance and leaves you in a puddle of happiness. There’s a lot of heartbreak in this one, and a lot of time jumping but it’s done well.

It’s like a fighter book combined with a rockstar book. I mean, who doesn’t love each of those?! Combining them is perfection. Dax is one confused kid/teen/man. His father trained him to follow certain rules. To hide his emotions. To be a fighter. Accept his rewards. Treat slags like slags. But when he sees Kate – I mean, finally SEES her – he realizes that he wants more. He wants the normal life the he doesn’t think that he can have. But that’s all destroyed one afternoon when Kate walks in on a moment that Dax doesn’t ever want her to see.

I disliked Kate’s lack of self-esteem but I really enjoyed watching her growth and journey. She goes through a lot in this book that no one should have to deal with. She’s been in love with Dax for years – ever since they were little kids – and when he finally kisses her it’s like the world melts away. But what happens when real life gets in the way? When their paths take different directions, Kate and Dax are forced to face the strength of their relationship.

Dax is not only hot as hell, but when he finally lets some emotions come through he becomes even more gorgeous. I loved the ups and downs, and the love in this story. 4.25 stars!

Strike is book #2 in the Sphere of Irony Series I was gifted a copy of the book to read for Gemma Reads Too Much.

Well hmmm…. What to say about Strike???

Probably the first thought that comes to mind now I’ve finished the book is that I’m pretty sure I’m emotionally scarred!!!

I have never felt so tense or so wound up over a couple in a book the way I have about Dax and Kate!!!

What the hell was wrong with this couple, they are so obviously meant to be together. Yet the stubbornly let years roll by before they pulled their heads out of their bums!!!

God I’m stressed!!! I was physically willing them to bump into each other or just pick up the phone. Talk about invested I was all in for this emotionally stunted couple.

My whole body is physically tense, this is ridiculous but hell its 2.34am and I couldn’t go to sleep till I knew they got a happy ending!!!

Dax and Kate are idiots!!! But idiots that were also each other’s soul mates. This book doesn’t just take the long way to love it takes a five year detour via Timbuktu!!!

I kind of loved and hated this book and I can guarantee that I’m going to have a book hangover in the morning!!!

You will love this book, but you will get so drawn into this story and this couple that it truly is an emotional rollercoaster. It’s worth it so strap yourself in and hold on tight it’s a hell of a ride!!!

This book easily gets 4.5 frustrating as hell stars from me

I found a new author/series to love!

Dax grew up in the poorest part of London to a family that is all about winning using brawn rather than brains. Growing up with him is a beautiful, sweet and smart girl who grows up into a charming, professional woman with a talent for footy. Fighter to rock star is a huge leap but gaining back the love of his life will be the greatest struggle of all.

Dax and Kate crawled into my heart from the start. Dax’s dad is the head of the household with a rigid set of rules and a family business that all sons are expected to participate and excel in. You could feel Dax’s frustration simmering as he worked on his exit plan. His relationship with his dad, with his whole family, is not simple but it grows along with him as he realizes he has to live this life for himself.

Kate had loved Dax from afar for years and seeing them grow closer, and go through so much, was a ride of emotion that had me glued to the pages. I’m not a big fan of “first person” stories but this author is beginning to convert me. Told from alternating points of view I felt that Dax and Kate came to life and really brought me into their journey. And what a trip – from the highs to the lows, they were not immune to the violence and corruption that exists. A great read that has me eagerly looking for other books by this author – including the first in this series!
