She was betrayed by her own emotions!

Abby considered her marriage over. Why couldn't Rachid just accept the fact and give her a divorce?

In the two years since she left Abarein, the Middle East country where Rachid was crown prince, she'd tried to rebuild her life. Now Rachid had come to reclaim her - fiercely opposing divorce, urging her to return.

But the reasons for her leaving were still valid. Nothing had really changed. Except maybe Abby herself. And it was her own traitorous response that finally gave her no choice!

Oh the idiocy of those older heroes! This one has the real @big misunderstanding in person!
The heroine is an English rose who married an Arab prince.
After three years of not conceiving the heir she leaves and goes back to England.
One years an a half later the hero has been able to find her, you know, no cells and fb in those years, and he wants her to go back with him.
He loves her and he doesn’t want another wife as his father at the time suggested.
The heroin though doesn’t want to go back with him especially since there was another reason for her desertion. The evil ow.
Said ow told the heroine she was the hero’s mistress and she had a son with him and he would marry her if the heroine divorced him.
Of course she believes this woman and now she’s as prickly as a porcupine. Well, if the story was true I would be too.
During this visit the hero and the heroine have a good revival of old times and after the hero left, resigned that the heroine doesn’t want him any longer, the heroine finds out she’s miraculously pregnant. We don’t know what kind of tests there were in those years but I’m sure no doctor told the heroine she was sterile.
The hero though never mentioned the fact he wanted a son. He always told her he loved her and wanted her back.
Of course now the heroine accepts to go back to his country until the child has borne and nobody talk about the elephant in the room. The mistress.
Many misunderstandings later, the hero wasting away because the heroine doesn’t have want him and the heroine hating h because of his mistress, it will be his grandmother, god bless her, that will tell the heroine the truth. Ow was his brother’s mistress and the child was his nephew. Why the hero never told the truth about it, sparing the heroine and him two years of unhappiness, is something that really made my head fume.
The heroine should have trusted him. Who said? Not at all. He should have explained to his wife who was entitled to the truth. Idiot hero as few are.
This one was a bit sexist, a bit racist but at least the hero has been celibate. Oh, and he’s a Cristian but supposedly because the author wanted to avoid the issue of a man who would have taken more wives.
Nice and crazy as fug .

'No, I was the fool,' he insisted softly. 'But no more.
Yes, he was and I believed in his ‘no more’ promise.

This is my first read from Anne Mather. This book was written in 1980 so some of the issues with it was because of the time it was written. Keeping that in mind, I will not address the part where Rachid said that sometimes he wanted to hit Abby (I have the originally published book version.) For most of the book, I was upset with the people surrounding Abby. It seemed that no one was really showing her compassion and understanding. Her boss was an ass. Her best friend was an ass. Her father was weak. Maybe it was written this way to highlight Abby's strength, but it was annoying. Overall this book held my attention and I'm happy that I have read it. It took me 39 years, but I liked it.

No, no, no. God, no.
The heroine was stupid. The hero was an idiot. And how did I end up being subjected to such a spectacle of lunacy?

I wanted to read a no-brainer with a bit of romance element to it and found this book very randomly from a friend's reading list on a whim. (it simply took a minute)
I wouldn't call it the shittiest decision I made. I have been reading bad books with no comprehension, using colloquial sentences with no sense for prose. This book, however, felt more bearable in contrast.
This book also made me reminisce about all the old Harlequin mills and boon romances I have read in the past and how most of them, despite lacking a plot, still showcased a decent grasp of the English language. As I ramble about the lack of good literature in today's popular titles, I recognize the urgency with which I am prompted to actively seek out enriching reads that exist beyond the realm of mainstream "pop" fiction.

Alright, my two cents on this story- one word, COMMUNICATE!

A good read.

Abby hears rumors about her beloved husband and wanting to know the truth confronts him. A prideful Rachid does not admit the truth because the real truth would reflect badly on his royal family. By allowing Abby to believe these rumors he has sealed the fate of his marriage. Abby leaves him.

Pride goeth before the fall, seems very true in this storyline. When their secord chance appears, he still lets his pride rule even knowing how much it hurts his love. He really expects everything for nothing.

A nice read...well written but a little slow, typical of older romances.

It was a cute albeit sometimes upsetting novel to read. I didn't quite enjoy it as the others by Anne Mather but I didn't think it was horrible either. I thought the hero should of told his wife the truth immediately, instead of letting her believe he had an affair. Then their problems wouldn't of occurred at all. However in novels, as in real life, a lot of pride gets in the way.

Sandstorm

Their marriage was not easy. They were from two different worlds. He is a prince in his. She just a personal assistant. Their love story wasn't without the drama of lies being said. She ran away from him. Now two years later he is there to bring her back. But without truth and trust the past sins are keeping them apart. When she finally became pregnant she is back in his country. Can these two people have the love back or will they part once more?

"Sandstorm" is the story of Abby and Rachid.

Another tale of our very Caucasian heroine marrying an Arab hero, misunderstanding his culture and beliefs, and leaving him due to miscommunications. The whole book would have been intolerable if not for the hero's patience and devotion to the heroine, he even gave her plenty of space while she played yoyo with his feelings.
