Step back into the heart of Victorian London with A Christmas Reborn, the stirring sequel to the timeless classic A Christmas Carol. Ebenezer Scrooge, once the embodiment of greed and isolation, has become a cherished figure of compassion and generosity. The death of a loved one shakes his foundation, while the unchecked ambitions of the elite threaten to crush the working class under their heel. Scrooge must go beyond mere charity—he must inspire a lasting change, embedding the spirit of Christmas in the hearts of a generation torn between hope and despair.
Guided by newfound revelations and spectral visitations, Scrooge embarks on a journey not only to uplift the living but also to free the departed from their self-forged chains of regret. Did you ever wonder what happened to Ebenezer Scrooge after Christmas settled down that first year he encountered the various Ghosts of Christmas?
Wonder no more!
Author, Scott A. Johnson, plunges readers into Victorian London and the home of Ebenezer where we are given an update on him and all the other characters from the Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol. Ebenezer begins on a high note, a reformed man working to make restitution for his prior life and enjoying his family.
Before the end of chapter one, tragedy befalls his family and our Mr. Scrooge begins to lose his way. This story is an accounting of the family who loves him and inspires him to keep working towards the true spirit of Christmas. It’s also about those who hate him and those he helps along the way.
I appreciated the small cast of well developed characters but would have enjoyed more dialogue. While the prose was very much in keeping with the style and texture of Dickens, it was burdensome, at times when dialogue could have moved the story forward more quickly and revealed more depth about how the characters were feeling.
An enjoyable read that could easily become a new holiday tradition📚
It is a brave writer who steps forth, and offers a sequel to a story like 'The Christmas Carol', and by a writing legend like Charles Dickens.
Well, my sense is that Charles Dickens would be very pleased indeed with 'A Christmas Reborn' and the kindred spirit he would find in its author Scott A Johnson.
Dickens motivations in writing the story of Ebenezer Scrooge lay in the desire for change so necessary in the city that London was in 1843, where poverty was all around, and industrialism had begun its hard charging ascent. Johnson clearly shares Dickens concern, with Industrialism's charge being a continuing factor in today's world.
Johnson writes with a depth of texture that is uncanny for a writer separated from the times by nearly two centuries. Scott also very capably crafts a narrative that not only portrays hope, but offers it to the reader if they will embrace the ways of seeing that the characters embody on their paths.
As a story it was compelling, and I have finished it in a stint ending after midnight and writing this review after 1:00am, compelled to share my recommendation. The stakes were high, and all did appear lost. The hero's journey was well crafted.
As I said I think Mr Dickens would be mightily pleased.

This beautifully written, festive book was just the thing to get me in the holiday spirit! This was a great continuation of Scrooge's story and I loved every minute of it! The imagery in this book is absolutely stunning. It left me feeling like I was walking the streets with the characters. It was truly a remarkable way to get into the spirit of Christmas!
At first I was enraptured by the author’s prose, so reminiscent of Charles Dickens, but soon tired of his effusive, descriptive narration. I understand Scrooge needed to go through sorrow for his loss, but the self doubt, guilt, and talk of the dire state of London dragged on way too long and could have been told in half the amount of time for my tastes. It may be because my life is extremely busy now so I was impatient, but the story picked up again after the visitation of more spirits and I thoroughly enjoyed the second half of the book. Without giving away too much, I loved the ending, both as a heartwarming Christmas read and a moralistic oration on the human condition, and it made wading through the beginning worth it. A Christmas Reborn is a new era in Scrooge's Redemption by Scott A Johnson. I am going to make the assumption that most, if not all, readers know who Ebenezer Scrooge is. This book is a continuation of Dickens classic book. I thought the author wrote in the style and the voice of Dickens. It was different that there was almost no dialogue. It almost was if the author was telling the story and not Scrooge. The book is unique and enjoyable. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
This is an outstanding continuation story for Ebenezer Scrooge. It is a heartwarming tale of love, kindness, perseverance, and community togetherness. It was a great way to bring in the Christmas spirit into my home. I plan to read it every Christmas! Loved it.
For everyone who loves Dickens A Christmas Carol, who wouldn't want to continue the story and see what comes next in Scrooge's life? An interesting carry on that does not disappoint.
