Framed for multiple murders. Running from the law. Nurse Cathy Arden must prove her innocence or spend the rest of her life in a prison cell. Oscar Green's vision is simple: create a place where wealthy senior citizens can live their final days in the comfort to which they have become accustomed. On the outside, the ultra-luxury of Green Haven seems like heaven on Earth, but Green Haven is not the idyllic nursing home it appears to be.
Director of Nursing, Cathy Arden's complacent life is about to change as she discovers Green Haven's residents are suddenly dying at an alarming rate. She is determined to prove something is wrong, and her efforts have inadvertently placed her in the crosshairs. Who can she trust as the killer may be working right beside her?
Detective Oaks sets his sights on Cathy when all the evidence points to her. He is intent on bringing her to justice. Desperate, but unwilling to give up, Cathy is forced to put others at risk to find out who the real killer is and point detective Oaks in the right direction. If she fails, more will die and Cathy's new long-term home will be a prison cell.
Green Haven is the perfect place for the rich and forgotten. Perhaps it's also the perfect place for murder.
I got this book last July when I was in Boothbay Harbor, Maine for my son's wedding, and I came across Luca Dimatteo, who was signing books. I just got around to reading it. For a first-time novelist (as far as I know), I'd say it's pretty good. Some of the dialogue was a bit stilted, and some of the reactions from the characters seemed unlikely. Example- the protagonist, Director of Nursing Cathy Arden, suspects administrator Kyle is framing her for murder, and her first reactions are about revenge- how she would 'make him pay' for his unkindness to her. Then "Cathy's thoughts of retribution came to a sudden stop when she remembered that people might be getting murdered right in front of her. It became apparent that her personal vendetta would have to wait; this was much more important."
Or her response, knowing she would be arrested, to go on the run. Hmmm....
At the same time, it was an engaging story. I'd read the next novel this author wrote.
Set in a nursing home- Green Haven- patients suddenly dying, a Priest (Father Brendan) and Sister Diane (not a nun), Oscar, the owner/developer, a not too bright man- and the Medical Director, Dr. Marissa Oliver.
Author Luca DiMatteo takes his readers on a tour into the senior community of Green Haven, Inc where the wealthy live out the duration of their lives, Oscar Green Jr wanted to continue his late father's mission of making sure the seniors can keep their customary lifestyle, soon Oscar dream was to build an empire! With key players in mind, and other investors.
Setting the stage Oscar must have the right employers, Cathy Arden, Father Brendan, Sister Diane just to name a few were the key players, Director of Nursing Cathy Arden antennae went up as to what happen on the inside of the so-called best place to be that turn her life upside down she was soon framed for the mayhem that occurred in this story you will see a lot of twists and turns suspense and mayhem and who done it!
I am so impressed with this new author! I didn't want to put this book down! The twists and turns in this book keep me engaged and made me want to keep turning the pages until I was done. I never read a book in two days, but because I was so drawn in, I could not stop reading. I finish this book in ONE day! Great Job! Looking forward to reading more by this new coming author!
What an interesting read!!! The plot had many unexpected twists and turns. The author brings you on a journey!!! The characters were interesting and surprising. Great setting of a nursing home. I highly recommend this book. Can’t wait to read more from this author.
This is an excellent story. The writing is done well and I felt like I was in the thick of things. The author did a good job of making me hate and like the characters. I am impressed to find out that this is his first novel. The plot and writing is very seasoned.
Congrats Luca Dimatteo on your first novel! I never know what to expect with first time authors, but this one delivered. It was a little slow at first, but about a third way through I was fully engaged. I thought I had the mystery figured out, but was wrong. Good story with interesting characters.
Green Haven has an interesting premise and explores thoughtful themes about community and resilience. I appreciated the author’s creativity and the unique perspective the story brings.
Loved the story. Loved the characters. The Three different storylines come together wonderfully and no detail is wasted. I hope he writes a sequel. Either way, I will be reading his next book.
