I came to Redwood Rise to track predator behavior. I didn’t expect to become the prey.
After a messy divorce and stalled career, wildlife biologist Anabeth Cole is ready for a fresh start. But something is wrong in these woods, and the local mechanic, Beau Hayes, knows more than he’s letting on.
Beau frustratingly charming, recklessly protective… and hiding something.

SOMETHING IS STIRRING IN THE EARTH. SOMETHING ANCIENT.
The story is the second book in the series, Shifters of Redwood Rise. It is a rather secluded, reclusive small town of shifters of many different kinds. They don’t take to outsiders and would rather keep to themselves. The ley-lines are active, something is watching, waiting. The story will mainly revolve around Anabeth Cole, who has a PhD in wildlife biology, and Beau Hayes, a mechanic and grizzly bear shifter.
Beau: Is this the new cottage tenant? Anabeth: Biologist. Beau: Even better. We were overdue for someone with a fancy degree and a little bit of backbone. Anabeth: Careful. I bite. Beau: So do I. Elsie: Beau, quit harassing the poor woman. She just got here. Let’s try to pretend we’re somewhat civilized. Anabeth Cole, meet Beau Hayes. Beau: You’re staying in the cottage at the end of the beach? That’s not too far from me. If you need help with anything—firewood, direction, local wildlife rumors—I’m your guy. Anabeth: Is the wildlife always this friendly? Beau: Only when it finds something worth befriending. Elsie: Ignore him. He’s all bark. Beau: And sometimes bite. Anabeth: Thanks for the warm welcome. I’ll try not to get eaten by anything bad. Beau: I’m not bad, Anabeth. Be careful out in the woods. Not everything out there stays where it belongs.
Anabeth had been slated to work at Yosemite and then was told she would be going to Redwood Rise instead. It doesn’t take her long to be there when she senses things, feeling like she is being watched, and that there is more than animals in the woods.
“This forest has always been alive. But now it feels like it’s watching—calculating. Not just aware but interested. Let it watch. I’m not going anywhere.”
“If something’s out here, you’ll want to make yourself known. I’m armed with science and sarcasm. You don’t stand a chance.”
The story picks up from the first book with spikes in the ley-lines, and when Anabeth arrives, they become even more active. From the time Beau and his bear meet Anabeth, he knows she is his fated mate, even if she is human. The way he reveals his shifter self to her wasn’t planned, but danger initiated it. So how will she react? But why are the ley lines affected by her? Even the animals are irrational in their behavior. The floor of the forest is pulsing, fracturing, and Anabeth’s equipment is reading unprecedented spikes. What happens when she learns that there is more going on in Redwood Rise than her equipment can detect?
“I feel watched—not with eyes, but with something older, deeper. My nerves pull taut, stretched thin and trembling like a wire strung too tight. It sees me. It knows I’m here. And it’s waiting.”
Anabeth Cole heads up to Redwood, a scientist, new divorced for a new job and life. The town is shrouded in eerie mist and something else is pulsing in the air. Beau Hayes, a bear shifter, realized immediately she's his fated mate. The build up is intense with the leylines acting up, uncharacteristic animal behavior while the the primal humming is feels alive. They're reacting to her, but as a scientist, she's not a believer of leylines nor anything mystical that's not realistic. The unexpected reveal during a herd stampede leaves her in terrified, but yet in awe. Quite enjoyed their bantering. Different, more abstract writing style that will keep you turning the pages. TLDR: Good short story with the right amount of yearning and spicy pay off. Loved the FMC who is "armed with Science and Sarcasm".
Writing - 1st person story with excellent descriptors to build a bit of an eerie mountain world.
Characters - It is a short story so I appreciate the author focusing on the FMC and MMC to keep the store tight. Both main characters were developed enough in a short amount of time to give us a good mental picture.
Yearning - decent amount of yearning for such short work. The looks, little touches, etc between the two really built the pay off.
Tension/Drama - the tension (outside of yearning) was external. The mystical / mysterious element kept the story interesting with another factory.
Chemistry - the main characters had chemistry, I do wish we had more time to develop this but it was a short story.
Vibe/world - the mountains, forest, and fog built a creepy tension in the world. The author gave us a good amount of visual images to help build that in our minds. The mysterious element / supernatural issue was something I took a star off for. I feel like we were just hammered to death about the ley lines and "feelings" the forest was giving off. I feel like we could have had more action scenes in the forest and less "feeling of the forest".
3.75stars—ROARING HEAT is the second instalment in Delta James’ contemporary, adult SHIFTERS OF REDWOOD RISE erotic, paranormal romance series. This is bear shifter Beau Hayes, and wildlife biologist Anabeth Cole’s story line ROARING HEAT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Anabeth and Beau) ROARING HEAT follows in the wake of the arrival of wildlife biologist Anabeth Cole in Redwood Rise. Anabeth’s latest assignment sends our heroine to Redwood Rise when within minutes of her arrival all does not go according to plan. From the outset , strange phenomenon heighten Anabeth’s senses, and the introduction of Beau Hayes pulls Anabeth into a world she knows nothing about. Beau Hayes is a grizzly bear shifter, and knows immediately that Anabeth is his fated mate but the ley lines in Redwood Rise are angry; volatile and determined taking aim at our story line heroine.
The world building follows the search for the truth in the wake of Anabeth’s arrival. The ley lines are pulling towards our story line heroine, actively searching for some sort of connection. Beau and his brothers know there is more than the physical anomalies but a psychic pull that no one can ignore.
The relationship between Anabeth and Beau is one of fated mates. Beau and his bear know immediately that Anabeth is their fated mate but Anabeth is human, and unaware of the supernatural aspects of the village in which she now lives. The ley lines are determined to claim our story line heroine but Beau refuses to let anything happen to the woman with whom he will fall in love. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate.
We are introduced to several townsfolk ,as well as the return of Beau’s brothers Sawyer and Eli.
ROARING HEAT is a story of the supernatural, power, secrets and love. The fast paced premise is intriguing and magical;the romance is fast and furious; the characters are desperate and determined.
My first read of the Redwood Rise series and to say it is something completely different and unexpected is a surprise for me is a good kind of way! A lot of Ley Lines talk and the mystery surrounding the small town of Redwood Rise as Anabeth comes into town and upsets the balance. The story keeps you riveted as the mystery of what is happening within the forest has you guessing with every page turned. Anabeth knows something is happening as she has been sent to study the disturbances that have been felt. Beau realises that Anabeth has started a chain reaction and needs to keep her safe. He knows she has become instrumental in the way the ley lines are reacting and finds all the animals are behaving differently. When a stampede of Elk nearly trample Anabeth, Beau has to show his true nature....Being a Grizzly is part of who he is and the many shape shifters of Redwood Rise are wary of a newcomer in their midst. When Anabeth accepts that Beau is a Grizzly, he lets her know she is his fated mate. That takes her breath away, but she realizes it feels right! As Beau and his brothers try and work out what is happening in their small town, he realises that he needs to bond with his mate to settle the ley lines before they erupt. An interesting journey for Beau and Anabeth as they fight for what is real and what is not and still keep themselves safe. Does Anabeth accept Beau as a Grizzly and as a man, and is she willing to give the Ley lines what they want? This story certainly had me in its thrall. Well done @DeltaJames Well done!
"Roaring Heat" is the compelling second book in the "Shifters of Redwood Rise" series, set in a secluded town where diverse shifters fiercely guard their territory against outsiders. The ley lines pulse with energy, signaling that something watches from the shadows.
This narrative follows Anabeth Cole, a wildlife biology PhD holder, and Beau Hayes, a mechanic and grizzly bear shifter. After receiving an enticing job offer from Redwood Rise, Anabeth quickly realizes she is being scrutinized, sensing that the woods are alive with more than just wildlife.
With her arrival, the ley lines surge powerfully, and Beau does not doubt that Anabeth is his fated mate. He reveals his shifter identity during a moment of tension, forever altering her perceptions.
Anabeth’s very presence influences the ley lines, leading to irrational animal behavior and mysterious energy patterns throughout the forest. She is on the brink of uncovering the deep secrets that Redwood Rise holds—secrets that extend far beyond what her scientific equipment can detect.
Second in series, Anabeth and Beau a Grizzly Shifter are a wonderful partnership to read reading This is a simply wonderful read and I guarantee that Anabeth Cole is a wildlife biology and Beau Hayes is a grizzly shifter that is also a mechanic. When Anabeth and Beau meet, they seem to have an instant chemistry and Anabeth is taking a great interest in the natural wildlife. Anabeth and Beau seem to have a wonderful interaction and it seems that she realises that there is definitely something special about him and yet she could never have envisioned the series that he had hidden within himself and she had never before heard about shifters and now life will never be the same. This is a wonderful read and I guarantee that other readers will be blown away by this book and will be left looking forward to the next book in this wonderful series. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.
This is the 2nd book in the series and can be read as a standalone (very little of book 1 is mentioned). Beau is one of the Guardians of Glacier Hollow, along with his brothers. Anabeth received a posting to study the wildlife patterns there, but there's more going on than she realizes. The lay lines are stressed, he been of late, and while she doesn't understand what she's feeling, she feels their lure. The stirring of the animals, electrical misfunctions, peculiar markings and the unusual pull of the lines has both Beau and Anabeth on edge. Beau knows more than he's telling, about the lines and about her, buy the timing needs to be right. Is he worried about what she'll discover? Report? Or is it something more? Delta has continued to build the suspense regarding the mystery behind the lay lines. What exactly is going on, and what should they be planning for in the future?
I voluntarily reviewed a gift copy of this book. Happy Reading Y'all 📚
Redwood Rise sits over the ley lines and those lines have been disturbed. And whatever had disturbed them comes from beneath the town. Strange things are happening to surrounding area and the animals that inhabit the forests. Biologist Anabeth finds herself being sent there, but it is a mystery as to why as she did not apply to go there. As soon as she arrives she notices that things are not right. She feels like she is being watched by more that one. Beau, the brother of Calder, quickly realizes that she is his fated mate. But he is torn between watching her and trying to figure out what is happening with the ley lines. But it quickly becomes apparent that someone or something else is out there and watching. It is quickly becoming a race against time to protect and claim his mate and solve the mystery. A very fast paced mystic fated mate story that is a slow burn romance. A good second book to this series.
Anabeth was wildlife biologist who was assigned to Redwood Rise, arriving from her former home in Denver for a job with the forest service. Redwood Rise was a surprise posting, since she was supposed to be going Yellowstone, but the forest called to her and she knew she was in the right place. Unknown to the human population in more conventional towns, this community was entirely populated by shifters, with Beau Hayes being a mechanic and grizzly shifter. As soon as he saw Anabeth, knew she was his fated mate… but the forest has been having some weird events lately, like deer suddenly bolting through populated areas, wildcats with unsteady gaits and strange humming in the "ley lines" which run under the entire forest… but will the strange happenings drive Anabeth off, or will her interest in the area, and Beau make a home for her in Redwood Rise?? I voluntarily read this book through an Advanced Reader Copy.
The story is super exciting and Steamy hot. You will fall in love with each character. Anabeth is a spunky land biologist. She is hired to investigate a problem in Redwood Rise. A small town full of mystery and secrets. When she gets there Anabeth feels the town is a little eerie. One of the first people she meets is Beau. Beau is a sexy bear shifter mechanic/handyman in Redwood Rise. When he meets Anabeth his inner bear informs him Anabeth is their fated mate! Problem is Anabeth does not know about his World. The more time they spend together the closer they become. It looks like fate has brought Beau his fated mate. There is a danger linked to the problem with the land! Can Beau protect her from the danger? You will love this five star plus story.
Book 2 in the series stars bear shifter Beau Hayes and biologist Anabeth Cole. Anabeth has taken a job with the Forestry Department in a place you can't easily find on a map. Redwood Rise offers her the quiet she wants and an ocean view. But things are not what they seem in this out-of-the-way town. The ley lines are restless and something ancient has risen. Beau and his brothers are noting all kinds of strange wildlife activity, and the weirdness has escalated since Anabeth came to town. Beau knows she is his mate, but can he keep her safe from what is coming?
Not much seems to happen in this book, stampeding wildlife aside. We are still waiting to see what is causing all the strangeness and how the women are involved, perhaps the next brother's book will enlighten us. Or perhaps not. I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.
This is the second book in the Redwood Rise series The FMC, Anabeth Cole, is a wildlife biologist who started a job with the Forestry Department. Beau, the local mechanic is a grizzly shifter and unbeknownst to Anabeth, the entire town is made up of various kinds of shifters. There are strange goings on in the town. The animals are acting differently and the ley lines (introduced in the first book in the series) are very active. Something is happening and it directly involves Anabeth, as if she woke up the ley lines.
It's an interesting story that is filled with mystery and an eventual romance. The story focused more on the connections between Anabeth and the ley lines and less on the relationship between Beau and Anabeth. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The storyline kept me intrigued. There was a sense of anticipation that was never fully realized. In fact, there was no cliffhanger, but I was left with the same sense of anticipation I felt from the first book.
Something was coming. Something to do with the ley lines. Something ancient from the earth. Some form of energy. The book was very good at causing the reader to feel what the characters were feeling. A sense of confusion, uncertainty, and caution.
I felt like the romance, Anabeth and Beau's connection, and the fated mate element took a back seat to the mystery of the ley lines and what was going on in the forest. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.
‘Roaring Heat’ is book 2 in The Shifters of Redwood Rise Series.
Featuring Anabeth Cole, the wildlife biologist and recent divorcee; and Beau Hayes, the local mechanic and bear shifter. There’s something going in the woods, something primal and ancient. And nothing about her fancy degree will help her decipher Mother Nature’s message.
The characters and world building were interesting, and the plot was intriguing. The fated mate aspect is secondary to the ley lines and the goings on in the forest. The book is a slow burn; in my opinion, too slow. If you’re into ancient mysteries of nature with a dash of fated mates… this book is for you.
8/10 recommend

First one was decent. But this wasn’t nearly as good. It’s like it forgot about what happened in the first book. Not to be a spoiler, but events in the first book are nearly the same as what happened in this one. And I get it. The books are back in back I’m guessing, things will gradually escalate until the last book where the ending is. But don’t say that the similar events happen only because of both of them but act like it was only because of the MFL for that book. Say it started with the first book FML and then escalated more with the second FML. I’m unsure if I’ll continue with this just to see the out come. Or toss in the flag because it seems to be a copy and paste from the first book with the only original thing being the FML job descriptions.
Anabeth Cole has accepted a post that takes her to Redwood Rise, what she didn't expect was an instant attraction to Beau Hayes, the town mechanic. As a wildlife biologist Anabeth is there to observe predator behavior, but every time she turns around there is Beau. He's handsome and charming but Anabeth is newly divorced, she thinks he's hiding something, so she is determined to uncover his secret. As a fan of this author, I have always adored her fascinating and engaging characters. They are always well written with realistic personalities, flaws and all. Steamy, insta love, shifters and magic with a happily ever after make this a must-read I will happily recommend to other readers.

I was astounded reading this book I was hooked from the start until the very end, the story was written well and the characters were sensational. This was a story about Beau Hayes and Anabeth Cole, Beau is the local mechanic and a paranormal shifter he feels his mate but didn't want one. Anabeth applied for a job for somewhere else so when she received a job in Redwood Rise, so she went to Redwood Rise, a place she wasn't meant to go, Beau noticed the ley lines are coming to life every time she moves close to it. She feels like someone is watching her following her but when she sees Beau the heat between them gets to boil.
Loved these characters Anabeth new job is to study the wildlife patterns. As a wildlife biologist she understands that something is going on with the lay lines. Also the feelings she is has around the wildlife park and people is something Anabeth can’t put a feeling on.
Beau is a grizzly shifter who is a mechanic and the moment he meets Anabeth he knows she is his mate. Problem is how will a wildlife expert understand a shifter.
The two have chemistry, but secrets can stop something special. Beau knows that he must keep Anabeth safe as the forest continues to react to her.
This book is full of suspense and romance

Roaring Heat is the second book in the Shifters of Redwood Rise and can be read as a standalone. This book has alot going on and keeps the reader interested from start to finish. This author is great at world building and doesn't disappoint with Redwood Rise between the sea and the redwoods, the smells of the sea and the cool mist of the fog you can feel them on every page. The eerie feeling of the book stays through the story of Beau and Anabeth. The main characters are .very appealing and likeable and even the secondary characters give great weight to the story. The mystery and suspense is interwoven evenly with the fated mates story and you cannot wait to see what the next book will bring.
Annabeth was mistakenly offered a job on a project at Redwood Rise Forestry Department, which she immediately accepted. On arrival she is hit with a feeling, "Like I've just arrived somewhere I didn't know I was missing." Amongst the fog, mist and shaking earth we came to know in Grizzly's Grump. She gets to know Beau and the recordings of the forest as they escalate when they are together. She had never experienced or heard of anything like this and it drew me in as she investigated. I kept on looking out for Cilla's truck, hoping they would get to eat some of her delicious baking. I received a copy from BookSirens and this is my honest and voluntary review.
This is a standalone story with a continuing backstory. POV of both Beau and Anabeth.
I liked both of them. Anabeth is a strong person. Determination, I think, should be her middle name.
Beau knows she is the one for him from their first encounter. He knows she is his fated mate. I love how protective he is yet he doesn't smother her.
Well written. I like the intense flow of the story. Action from the first page. Steam to the slow burn romance.
I'm curious to read what happens next to the ley lines. I received an advance review copy for free via Booksiren , and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Beau and Anabeth’s story is book 2 in the Shifter’s of Redwood Rise series. It continues with the ley lines reacting suspiciously and the animals in the area not acting like normal. Anabeth’s job as a wildlife biologist isn’t usually one that stumps her, but nothing is as it seems. The book is fairly well written, it just gets bogged down in repeating information already written several times ( between books 1&2 ). The characters are likable, some a bit more quirky than others. Once the book gets going in the right direction, it kept me interested for the most part. I look forward to reading book 3 . 4✨’s I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Beau and Anabeth. A nasty divorce. Needs a fresh start. Somethings not right in the woods. A local knows more than hes saying. Shes being watched and waiting for her. Shes warned about the woods. Shes up for the challenge.
Shes about to learn about a world she didnt know existed. Hes about to learn how far he will go to protect whats his.
As always a well written story weaved with shifters and magic and mystery and suspense and romance with charecters that bring it all to life.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The storyline keeps you on a knife edge feeling the danger all around and wondering what will happen next.
Beau recognizes his fate on the first day of meeting Anabeth and he would do anything to protect her, but forces are at work, and she is in the middle of it. Could Anabeth accept who he is and the protection he offers?
An intense mysterious read leaving you wanting more with a wonderful HEA for the couple.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Anabeth came to Redwood Rise and something changed. The woods felt like they were alive. It felt like something was stalking her, waiting for her. I felt everything she was feeling, it's like I've been here before, I know how she feels. It's atmospheric and engaging. You'll be drawn into the story and be left wondering what is out there. The ley lines might feel it too but Beau and Anabeth are in this together. I can't wait for the next story. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Annabeth and Beau may seem an unlikely couple, however fate thinks otherwise. This is the second book in this series and continues the story regarding the ley-lines and their effect on the town of Redwood Rise and its shifter occupants. Something is upsetting the wildlife, and danger is stalking Beau and Annabeth. This is a great story; however, you really need to read the books to understand what the underlining story is. I still have no idea what is affecting the ley-lines! I voluntarily received and reviewed an ARC copy of the book.
This was the second in the serious and Anabeth and Beau's story. The series started good and then took a huge jump backwards on this one. Anabeth was supposed to be a biologist but never did any work. The prior pair completely disappeared until the very end. The line "don't open the door for anyone but me or my brothers" - she has absolutely no idea who his brothers are. The mystery went in circles. It just went nowhere. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
-A thrilling continuation of the Shifters of Redwood Rise series, where science meets the supernatural. I received a free copy and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts.
Anabeth, a wildlife biologist, finds more than she bargained for in the mysterious, misty town of Redwood. Beau, a grizzly shifter, knows instantly she’s his fated mate—and their bond might be the key to calming the ley lines.
Steamy, suspenseful, and full of magic and heart, this story blends primal passion with eerie, otherworldly tension. An imaginative and enjoyable story.
Rating 4.5 The story is well written and full of suspense that keeps building with the unknown. I love the fact that the story is highly descriptive and emotionally charged. It gave me a sense of what was happening scene by scene. I loved Beau and Anabeth and how fast they connected. The unknown is still there, watching, waiting. The story has definitely peaked my interest and I can’t wait for the next story. I received a free copy of this book via Booksirens and are voluntarily leaving a review.
